He was a retired salesman from Kanawha Valley Restaurant Service, an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Pearl Harbor, and was a past treasurer of Armstrong Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Powellton United Methodist Church, where he was past a Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
