PALM COAST, Fla. -- Thomas W. Poole, 91, of Palm Coast died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell, Fla. He was born in Adairsville, Ga., formerly lived in Glasgow, W.Va., and was a 26-year resident of Palm Coast. He was a retired electrician and a Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Riverview Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, Fla., was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston, W.Va. Surviving: daughters, Betty Howe of Reston, Va., Evelyn Robertson of Clendenin, W.Va.; sons, Stephen of Tallahassee, Dr. Thomas Poole of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston. Alderson's Palm Coast Community Funeral Home, Palm Coast, is in charge of arrangements.

Oscar J. Racer, 73, of Nitro died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Valley Health Care Village, South Charleston, after a long illness. He was a retired vibrations analyst from Union Carbide with 39 years of service and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Nitro, a member of the choir and a teaching elder of the church. Surviving: wife, Margie L. Racer; daughter, JoAnna Wright of Frankfort, Ky.; sister, Georgia Rollyson of Cross Lanes; grandchildren, Marcie and Jammie Wright, both of Frankfort. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Nitro, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. He was a lifelong resident of Edmond, a retired miner from Maryland New River with 37 years of service and was a timber worker. He was a member of Jeanette Baptist Church, Edmond, and the UMW. He was born in Charmco, W.Va., was a graduate of Rainelle (W.Va) High School and retired from the Air Force with 30 years of service. Surviving: wife, Patsy Cochran; daughters, Shana Straight of Las Vegas; brother, Homer Cochran of Winchester, Ky.; sister, Myrtle Tragale of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; one granddaughter. W. Maynard Crawford
PHILIPPI -- The Rev. W. Maynard Crawford, 70, of Mansfield Addition, Philippi, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a long illness. He was a 1945 graduate of Weston High School, an Army veteran, an alumni of West Virginia Wesleyan College and Wesley Theological Seminary. He was an ordained United Methodist minister, and a member of West Virginia Annual Conference for 50 years, retiring in 1992. He served pastorates in Morgantown, Monogah, Charleston, Clarksburg, Petersburg, Huntington, Marlinton, and for the last 16 years in Madison. He served on many board and agencies on both the conference and district levels, including eight years on the Conference Board of Ordained Ministries. Until his retirement, he was former chaplain, holding the rank of captain for the Madison Civil Air Patrol and was active in community and civic affairs. Surviving: wife, Laura Kathryn Watkins Crawford; daughter, Deborah Welshonce of Elkins; son, Gary Crawford of Glenmoore, Pa.; brother, Richard Crawford of Philippi; sisters, Louise Cummings of Stony Point, N.Y., Phyllis Linger of Holliston, Mass.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She retired from Wyoming County Board of Education, where she was a secretary at Oceana Middle School. She was a member of Oceana First Baptist Church, a former worthy matron of Eastern Star Chapter 110, Pineville, and a member of Wyoming County Service Personnel Association. She was a retired secretary from the Department of the Navy, Washington, D.C., a 1956 graduate of Alderson High School and a graduate of Bluefield Junior Business College. She was a member of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, the Alderson Woman's Club, an active member of Alderson PTA, Greenbrier East High School Band Boosters and was a member of Alderson Chapter 119 Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving: son, Robert Lee Dixon of Hinton; daughter, Lynn Dixon Albers of Huntington; sister, Betty McClary of Lewisburg; granddaughter, Allison Marie Albers of Huntington; two nieces.
