He was a senior partner in Smith-Lilly Law Firm, Princeton, and a member of the Mercer County, state and American Bar associations. He was a graduate of Princeton High School, Roanoke (Va.) College and West Virginia University College of Law. He was a member of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce Board, served as city attorney for 20 years and was named Citizen of the Year in 1970. He was instrumental in the formation of the Mercer County Saddlebred Association, served as board member for three county banks at various times, was a member of Elks Lodge, Bluestone Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Princeton.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy Emma Rule Smith; daughters, Sandra Susan Lilly of Princeton, Clair Mason Seagren of Lexington, Ky.; sister, Doris S. Angel of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandsons.
