Robert Harold 'Jerry' Shuman, 83, of Pleasant Valley went home to be with his Lord on Father's Day (Sunday, June 15, 2003) following a long illness.
He was born Aug. 7, 1919 at Porter's Falls, a son of the late Homer C. and Lily Jacobs Shuman.
Mr. Shuman was a loving father and husband. He was a foreman at the Consolidation Coal Company's Pursglove Mine, having retired with more than 35 years in the mining industry. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion. He was also a member of the Baptist Temple Church in Fairmont.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Velva Moore Shuman; a daughter, Linda L. Schell; two sons, Robert Shuman and his wife, Betty, and Randall Shuman and companion, Debbie Moore, all of Fairmont; eight grandchildren and spouses, Robert K. and Heidi Shuman, Stacy and Michael Green, Katrina Shuman, Angelo Shuman, Steven and Beth Shuman, Louetta Shuman, Sherrie and Norbert Feth, and Micah Shuman; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Moore of Boothsville and Eileen Moore of Ravenswood; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Steven Dallas Shuman, who was killed in a mining accident on June 11, 1971; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hansel and Dorothy Shuman, and Carl and Marguerite Shuman; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Moore and Denzil Moore.
Serving as pallbearers are Robert D. Shuman, Randall Shuman, Steve Shuman, Steve Shuman Jr., Robert K. Shuman and Michael Green.

Carlos H. Estep, 100, of Grafton, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at the Wallace B. Murphy facility of Grafton City Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born June 3, 1903, in Kanawha County, the son of the late George and Arabella Estep.
Mr. Estep was an electrician by trade and owned and operated the Grafton Electric Company in the decade of the 1930s, was also an instructor at the West Virginia Industrial School and also operated a small grocery store in Knottsville. He was Methodist by faith.
He is survived by one brother, Emmet Estep and wife Dolly of Washington, Pa.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Estep was preceded in death by a brother, Ressie Estep; and three wives, Myrtle Lewellen, Beatrice Shanabarger, and Reve Nichols.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. H. Edgar Suite officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodsdale Memorial Park.

Wilma Regina Fox Andrysiak, 88, of Fairview, passed away Monday (Oct. 7, 2003) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born June 8, 1915, in Cross Roads, the daughter of the late Frances Marion and Gertie Sergent Efaw.
Mrs. Andrysiak was a loving mother and nanny. She was a housewife and was Baptist by faith.
She is survived by five children, James David Fox and wife Margie of Ohio, Rowena Lowe and husband Jack of Fairview, Teasy Cole Green of Fairmont, Jeanie Sine and husband Bill of Grant Town, and Katy Stafford and husband Lenny of Mannington; 12 grandchildren, James, David and Steve Fox, Jack Lowe Jr., Joseph and Crystal Lowe, Misty Hines, Lori Ownbey, Mindy Fox, Lisa Walters, Eric Efaw, and Julie Thorne; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Jazmyne Sanchez-Cole.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Andrysiak was preceded in death by her first husband, James Fox in 1959; her second husband, Stanley 'Smokey' Andrysiak in 1980; one son, Kenneth Allen Fox; two brothers, Thomas and Junior Efaw; and three sisters, Mabel Lemley, Flossie Haught, and Mildred Fox.

John Robert Hadox, 73, of Pleasant Valley passed away on Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at his home.
He was born on May 20, 1930, in Fairmont, a son of the late Ralph F. Hadox and Minnie Ford Hadox.
Bob was the owner of Mid-Eastern Construction Company in Fairmont. Prior to that, he worked as a plasterer and general contractor for many years. He began his career working with the Plasterer's Union.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. Following high school, he served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was a member of both the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge of Fairmont. Bob was a dedicated grandfather. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed one of their sporting events. He was also a great lover of animals.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Hawkins Hadox; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Bruce and Bonita Hadox of Fairmont; and a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Mike Fleece of Fairmont; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara and Dave Lang of Nebraska and Peggy Martin of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Ryan Robert Hadox and Erin Brooke Hadox of Fairmont; a nephew, Mike Lang of Nebraska; and two nieces, Diana Kincell of Fairmont and Marcia Kay Schlegelmilch of Nebraska.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Willis Martin.

David 'Crazy Dave' Henderson, 56, of Fairmont passed away Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) in Demopolis, Ala., during his boating adventure en route to Key West, Fla.
He was born Dec. 8, 1946, in Fairmont, a son of the late Guy Henderson and Wanda Pitman Henderson Levelle.
He was the owner and operator of Crazy Dave's Tack and Trailer Sales, and formerly worked as a state mine inspector. He was a member of the Fairmont Moose Club and the Sons of The American Revolution.
Dave loved his children and grandchildren dearly and was an avid boater, motorcyclist and horseback rider.
He is survived by three daughters, Michelle Bright and husband Dion of Enterprise, Christina Henderson of Hebron, Ky., and Heather Holley and husband Johnny of Fairmont; his stepfather, Joe Levelle of Fairmont; two sisters, Judith Betonte and husband Larry of Fairmont, and Joy Marino and husband Ronald 'Rocky' of Bridgeport; one brother, Jeffrey Henderson and wife Jodi of Barrackville; a sister-in-law, Mary Pat Cowan and husband Dan of Pffafftown, N.C.; two grandchildren, Cortney and Ashley Bright; eight nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jonathan and Barret Betonte, Erin Goliszek, Casey Cowan, Alexandria Marino, and Emylea and Madison Henderson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Henderson.

Deborah Lee Jarvis, 51, of Fairmont died Friday (Nov. 28, 2003) at her home.
She was born April 23, 1952, in Morgantown, the daughter of William C. and Lila M. Robison Croston.
Deborah was a homemaker and was Protestant by faith.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Donald C. Jarvis of Fairmont; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Rhonda Croston of Core, and Jason O. and Gina Croston of Morgantown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry D. and Randy 'Rack' Crane of Morgantown, and Luanna and Todd Neyman of Gladesville; and nieces and nephews, Dawn M. Thomas of Morgantown, Rebecca Hiner of Gladesville, John W. Croston Jr. of Core; Miranda D. Thomas, K'Sean Thomas and Monica Michael, all of Morgantown, Nicole Kennedy of Core, and Brandon Neyman of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one son, Joshua D. Scotchel; and one brother, William Croston Jr.
Cremation services were arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, Morgantown. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fred L. Jenkins Chapel of Prayer with the Rev. Dr. Stacy Groscup officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.

David Aaron Morgan, 61, of Morgantown died Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born in Fairmont on Aug. 15, 1942, a son of Ida Virginia Brand Morgan of Smithtown and the late George B Morgan.
David was retired from EIMCO Coal Machinery Co. of Pleasant Valley as a systems analyst. He previously was employed at Fairmont Alcan Aluminum Products Corp. for many years.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Fairmont, and the Mended Hearts Group of Morgantown, as well as the Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Lindhurst, Ohio. He also held membership in the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 18 Degree of Morgantown and 32 Degree Scottish Rite of Wheeling. He was a member of the A.A.O.N.M.S. Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He had a great love of photography and photographed many family events and weddings.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy A. Holbrook Morgan of Smithtown Road, Morgantown; two sons, Michael Aaron and his wife Janice L. Morgan of Fairmont, and Kevin David and his wife Melissa Morgan of Fairmont; a daughter, Lisa Dawn Morgan of Fairmont; a sister, Tammy Hamner and her husband Bill of Bridgeport; two grandchildren, Alexa Morgan and Hayley Wilburn; his mother-in-law, Goldie M. Holbrook of Cleveland, Ohio; and nieces and nephews Devin, Danielle and Gabrielle Hamner, all of Bridgeport.

Daniel A. Pacifico of Fairmont passed away Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born in Fairmont, a son of the late James and Carolyn Del Re Pacifico.
Mr. Pacifico graduated from Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State College.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. For many years he worked as manager of Firestone Fire and Rubber Company in Fairmont. Later, he owned and operated Pacifico Grocery and Meat Market in Fairmont. Retiring from the market business, he then was employed by the Marion County Commission for 10 years.
He was a member of and attended St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church until his illness. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marion Council 942, a member of Green Hills Country Club and a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks Lodge No. 2945, where he attended many dances and was always admired and complimented on his graceful and elegant dancing.
He was a gentle and giving man who always had a kind word for everyone.
He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of 53 years, Lenora 'Lee' Colantino Pacifico; two daughters and a son-in-law, Daneen Pacifico of Parkersburg, and Donna and Jack LaCavalla of New York; and two grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel LaCavalla, also of New York.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pacifico was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Romino and Mary Ann Martelli; and a brother, Russell Pacifico.

Calvin 'C.W.' Stickley

Calvin 'C.W.' Stickley, 92, of Fairmont died Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at the Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Burlington, Mineral County, a son of the late Rufus William and Cora Reed Stickley.
Calvin was the founder and president of C.W. Stickley & Sons Inc., a construction company from which he retired in 1990. He was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks, Class of 1977, Alderson Broaddus College. He was the last surviving member of his generation.
He was a charter member of and was twice president of the White Hall Lions Club since 1975. He served as District Governor of Lions International 1982-1983. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the Leonard Jarrett Award and the 100 percent District Governor Award, plus numerous other awards for outstanding service. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias for 42 years. He was a member of the Fleming Memorial Presbyterian Church for 40 years and served in many capacities, including deacon and ordained elder.
He was very active in his community, having been instrumental in incorporating the White Hall area and in the construction of the Middletown Community Center.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin W. and Jean Stickley Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; Richard C. and Pam Stickley of Fairmont, and Casey D. and Sharon Stickley of Fairmont; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lois Jean Welsh of Charles Town, and Shirley and Ira Parks Jr. of Fairmont; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and longtime friend and companion, Norma McIntire of White Hall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Mildred Ollie Bean Stickley and Alma Marie Athey Stickley; five brothers; a grandson, Randy Stickley; and a great-grandson, Justin Parks.

Ralph D. Wiles, 84, of Rayford Acres, Fairmont, died Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at his residence.
He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Tunnelton, a son of the late Rev. F.E. and Margaret Hoult Wiles.
Mr. Wiles was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic in the South Pacific during World War II and retired from the Fairmont Westinghouse Corp. as a machinist in the Lamp Plant Division with 41 years of service. He was a member of the Diamond Temple United Methodist Church of Fairmont.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenna Reese Wiles of Rayford Acres, Fairmont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Larry Starcher of Charleston, and Beverly and Douglas Bunner of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Amy Toothman Starcher and husband Timothy Muchnok of Pittsburgh, Bridget Bunner of Washington, D.C., and Brent Bunner of Fairmont; two stepgrandchildren, Molli Starcher and Mark Hamilton of Morgantown, and Dr. Victor and Cherise Starcher of Morgantown; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Hayden and Lexi Starcher, and Avary and Owen Hamilton; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Frank Webner of Fairmont.

Helen Martha Janes Baker, 76, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Moatsville, a daughter of the late Dallas W. and Helen Blake Janes.
Mrs. Baker was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Viola Church where she played the piano for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, the Rev. Odward L. Baker; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Gina Baker of Fairmont; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgia and Howard Tharp of Fairmont, and Ruth Ann and William Doby of Barrackville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Beyrl Janes of Kingsville, Ohio, and Bill and Dorothy Janes of Fairmont; two grandsons, Brian and Nathan Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda M. Janes.

Jerry J. Davis, 66, of Salem, departed this life Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2004) at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born July 15, 1937, at Wiseman's Run Road (Doddridge County), a son of the late Jerry and Tenice L. Ash Davis.
Mr. Davis was retired from Harvey Industries as a glassworker. He was a Korean Conflict veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Brad Minnich of Shinnston; six grandchildren, Daisy Jane Minnich, Danielle Nicole Davis, Heather Marie Davis, Zachary Dean Edward Davis, Trevor Scott Minnich, and Travis Dean Minnich; three sisters, Betty Chipps of Wolf Summit, Joan Blosser of Sun Valley, and Kay Davis of Salem; and one brother, Carl E. Davis of Salem.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by one son, William Davis; one brother, Darwin Davis; and two sisters, Dorothy Davis and Mary Ann Ayers.

Selester 'Leroy' Fernandez, 66, of Short Gap, formerly of Point Marion, Pa., passed away Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) in Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
He was born June 4, 1935, in Lumberport, a son of the late Celestino Fernandez and Darden May (Shreve) Fernandez Bowman.
A devoted life-long truck driver, he had worked for W.S. Thomas and General Delivery in Fairmont. He had served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Fernandez retired at age 62 and enjoyed being around friends and family, driving, fishing, and tinkering with vehicles. On his last birthday, he became a great-grandfather for the first time. He and his four-legged best friend 'Otis' spent every moment together until this past December when Leroy lost his 'friend' Otis. He was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Jo Ann Fernandez of Cumberland, Md.; three daughters, Janet Croteau of Canton, Ill., Esperanza Welker of Ridgeley, Ursula Ann Gantner of Mayport, Fla.; four grandchildren, Lewis and Shawn Drake of Uniontown, Pa., Rose Karfelt of Uniontown, Pa., and Egon Gantner III of Mayport, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Donovan Joseph Karfelt IV and Cameron Leroy Everly; two sisters, Delores Dufrane of Casselbury, Fla., and Mary Jo Veltri of Bradenton, Fla; one brother, Gene Bowman of Bentonville, Va.; and many other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Alice (Swan) Fernandez.

Monia Elizabeth 'Monnie' Turkette Olesky, 64, wife of Monongah native John Olesky Jr., died Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2004) at her daughter's Aurora, Ohio, home.
Monnie was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Williamson, the daughter of the late Fielden and Virginia Brooks Turkette.
Mrs. Olesky had been a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, since 1968.
A Williamson High School graduate, Monnie met her husband, Monongah High School and West Virginia University graduate John Olesky in Williamson when John was sports editor, later city editor, of the Williamson Daily News. They were married Aug. 17, 1955, in Oakland, Md., and had lived in Glendive, Mont., Charleston, W.Va., Dayton, Ohio, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
After her husband retired in 1996 from the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, Monnie and John traveled from Maine to the Southwest and Canada and the Caribbean. Every February for seven years, they spent a month on a Florida beachfront.
For years, Monnie and John were in their season seats at Mountaineer Field next to John's sister, Jackie Straight of Rivesville, and Jackie's oldest daughter, Renee Straight, of Fairmont. In earlier years, their grandson, John Richard Olesky, attended with them.
She is survived by her children, LaQuita Timberlake and husband Tom of Aurora, Ohio; John Larry Olesky and wife Kathy Catt of Tallmadge, Ohio; and Monnie Ann Johnston and husband Robert of Brunswick, Ohio.
Monnie's grandchildren are Devin and Dylan Timberlake of Aurora, John Richard and Abby Olesky of Tallmadge, and Beth, Raymond and Monnie Lynn Johnston of Brunswick.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Larry Turkette in 1987 in Beavercreek, Ohio. Larry's widow, Linda Smith Turkette, still lives there.

James 'Jim' Stephen Salina, 67, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 2004) at his home in Newark, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Grant Town, the son of the late Steve and Kathryn Zick Salina.
Jim, a United States Air Force veteran, graduated in 1962 from Fairmont State College with a B.A. in education. He then attended West Virginia University graduate school.
He was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament where he was also a Eucharistic minister for many years.
Jim taught history in the Licking Valley Schools from 1962-1988. He was an assistant principal at Licking Valley High School, as well as principal at Madison Elementary.
In addition, Jim coached many sports, including basketball, football, golf and track.
Following his teaching career, Jim worked at DFAS from 1989-1998, and at Adelphia Cable from 1999-2003.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan 'Sue' Francis Salina, at home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Brandy Salina, and Mark Salina and his fiancee Jill Dupler, all of Newark, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jameson and Emaleigh Salina; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jane Salina of Fairmont; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Dennison of Myersville, Md., and Virginia and Jim Pulice of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Phyllis M. Forshey Francis of Newark, Ohio; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Dodie Francis of Heath, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 375 E. Main St., Newark, Ohio, with the Rev. Timothy Hayes officiating. Private inurnment services will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Friends will be received at the church two hours prior to the funeral mass on Saturday, Feb. 14.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, or to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund.

Charles 'Poncho' Joseph Summers, 53, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Jan. 29, 2004) at his home following a long battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 19, 1950, in Fairmont, a son of the late Joseph Henry and Joann Mae Goff Summers.
Mr. Summers had worked at the Grant Town Mine and as a union carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenter Union 476.
He attended the Mt. Sharon Free Methodist Church.
Poncho was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Slaughter Summers whom he married in August 1999; two daughters, Courtnie Jo Summers and Sonya Summers-Goff, both of Fairmont; two stepchildren, Joey Linn Shaffer and her husband Steve, and Brian Joseph Critchfield, all of Fairmont; a brother, Donnie Ray Summers of North Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Fred Rundle of Fairmont; two nieces, Bridget Yerace and Diane Carter; a nephew, Freddy Rundle; six grandchildren, Bethanny and Jeremiah Goff, Tre Waites, B.J. Critchfield, Floyd Ellis IV, and Steven Michael; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Pastor Danny Blake officiating.

Henry F. 'Frank' Webner, 95, of Fairmont passed away early Thursday morning (Feb. 5, 2004) at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 22, 1908, in Glover's Gap, a son of the late Granville Leroy and Mary Ellen Snyder Webner.
Frank was a member of Central United Methodist Church and retired on Dec. 1, 1972, as the superintendent of operations of the Rivesville Power Plant. His hobbies included remodling his home and camp in Colfax, boating and being on the river, working on crossword puzzles and playing dominoes.
He is survived by a daughter, and son-in-law, Carol Ridenour and her husband Richard of Fairmont; a son, Frank M. Billingham of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Scott Ridenour, Laura Graf, Deanne Morgan and Frank Billingham; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Wallace of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Webner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Harbison Webner; his second wife, Pauline Margaret Wiles Webner; one sister, Louise Ash; and two brothers, Charles and Leroy Webner.
Friends will be received in the addition chapel of the Frey Home for Funerals, 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 6-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. D.D. Meighen officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.

Kenneth Lloyd Whisler, 82, of Austell, Ga., passed away Friday (Jan. 30, 2004) at Brian Center Nursing Center in Austell.
Mr. Whisler was born Jan. 24, 1922, at Littleton, a son of the late Ray and Stella Whisler.
Mr. Whisler retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Atlanta, Ga., with 30 years of service as a machinist in the forming plant. He began his career at the Owens-Illinois plant in Fairmont, transferring to Atlanta in 1957.
Kenneth graduated from Fairmont Senior High School. He was All-State both in football and basketball in 1941. Throughout his life, he continued to enjoy sports. He was featured in the West Virginia Centennial Book in 1963 as an outstanding athlete. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He participated in action against the enemy on Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa.
His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Don Cox of Mableton, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Sparks of Monroe, Mich., and Elizabeth DeMoss of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Katie and Jason Cox of Mableton, Ga.; a niece, Jolinda Linn of Monroe, Mich.; and a nephew, Jim DeMoss and his wife Susan of Roanoke, Va.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whisler was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth 'Tad' Knisely Whisler in May 2002; a brother, Wilbur Whisler; and two brothers-in-law, James Sparks and Harry DeMoss.
Friends and family may call from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the St. John United Methodist Church in Basnettville. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with John Conaway officiating.
Mr. Whisler will be laid to rest at the St. John's Church Cemetery following the funeral ceremony. Full military services will be conducted outside the church by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

James 'Herky' N. Whyte, 80, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2004) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Nicholas Earl and Mildred Anderson Whyte.
Herky retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant. He worked as a mold maker at the Fairmont Plant and for 19 years in North Bergen, N.J., plant before retiring to Fairmont.
He had also worked at the A&P Warehouse. Most recently, he was employed for Guardsmark Inc. as a security officer at the Alcan Aluminum Plant in Fairmont.
He was lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He currently attended the Newman Catholic Center Chapel.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 942.
He graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater in communications as a radio operator during World War II.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7048.
Friends and family will remember Herky for his love of gardening, sending e-mail pictures and messages to friends, and his playful good nature.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary L. DeBolt Whyte; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Laura Whyte of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Kirby of Fairmont; a brother, Robert Whyte of California; two brothers-in-law, Ken Walters of Fairmont and Harry Shevchuck of Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hornick of Fairmont and Ruth Whyte Malota of Indiana; six grandchildren, Paxton Kirby, Jenny Grabowski, Tracy Garner, Roger and Rogette Bickerstaff, and Kim Ramage; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gene Kirby; a brother, John Whyte; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Shevchuck and Eleanor Jo Walters.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, his body will be cremated with burial and services at a later date at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

He was native of Fairmont and was the son of the late Junior Wilson and Bea Harris Wilson Musgrave.
Mr. Wilson worked for the Tennessee Farmers Co-op and A.E.M. Automotive.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kristie and Dave Gabbert of Grafton, and Michelle Lee Wilson of Lavergne, Tenn.; grandchildren, Alex and Siera Gabbert of Grafton; fiancee, Lois Collins of Smyrna, Tenn.; stepfather, Wayne Musgrave of Fairmont; and two stepsisters, Nancy Weekley of Rivesville, and Sue Given and husband Glenn of Fairmont.

Madge Arnold Anderson, 81, of Catawba Community passed away Thursday (April 1, 2004) at Wishing Well Health Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1922, at Georgetown, a daughter of the late Worth and Molly Linger.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker and mother. She had also worked for several years in several nursing homes in the state as a nurses aid. She has last worked at the Weston Glass Plant. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by fours sons and their spouses, Gene and Sharon Linger of Buckhannon, Albert Paul and Karen Anderson Jr. of Sanford, James and Mary Anderson of Catawba, and Wayne Anderson of Fairmont; a brother, and sister-in-law, Ed and Phyllis Linger; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Ray Emery of Buckhannon; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Paul Anderson Sr. in 1988; her only daughter, Loretta Gale Arnett; a granddaughter, Sandy Bunner; a brother, Jack Linger; two sisters, Virginia Taylor and her twin sister, May Hunsaker; and a great-grandson, Nathan Bowyer.

Theodore J. 'Ted' Lascaris, 91, of Swanton, Md., died Sunday (March 28, 2004) at the Desert Regional Hospital, Palm Springs, Calif.
He was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Brownsville, Pa., the son of the late James T. and Mary Spiradoulos Lascaris.
Mr. Lascaris was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption, Morgantown. From 1963 to 2003, he was the owner of Alpine Village and the Silver Tree Restaurant, Deep Creek Lake. He attended Columbia University, New York.
As a member of the Deep Creek Lake-Garrett County Promotion Council, he was one of the founders of the annual Autumn Glory Festival and was named an honorary golden ambassador. He was a member of the Oakland Country Club and the Palm Springs Country Club and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Celeste (Marella) Lascaris; two daughters, Elaine L. McDonald of Swanton, Md., and Diana L. Walthall of Oakland, Md.; one son, James T. Lascaris of Oakland; and seven grandchildren.

Anthony 'Tony' Francis Maio, 80, of the Bunner Ridge Community passed away Thursday (April 1, 2004) at his home with his family.
He was born Nov. 29, 1923, a son of the late Frank Anthony and Carmella Sirignano Maio in Brooklyn, N.Y.
At the time of his death, Tony was the Canteen Manager of the VFW Post 629 in Fairmont. He had worked for Creative Label in Fairmont as a supervisor. Prior to that he had worked for A&P Printing in New York, later transferring to Fairmont. He had also worked for Consolidated Lithographers in New York. He was Roman Catholic by faith.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge, and the Eagles Club, all of Fairmont. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 17, a life member of the VFW Post 629, and the Military Order of the Cooties.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, West Virginia University football games, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dorothy Louise Reeves Maio, whom he married Aug. 27, 1985; one son, Frank Maio and his wife Jennifer of East Rockaway, N.Y.; one daughter, Christine Maio of East Rockaway, N.Y.; one stepson and his wife, Kevin and Shelly Ashcraft; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nicole Maio of East Rockaway, N.Y., Justin Neel, McKinley and Colby Ashcraft, all of Bunner Ridge; and one sister and her husband, Nancy and Carmine Gallo of East Rockaway, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Maio; and his grandchildren, Joseph Michael Maio and Shayne Harley Ashcraft.

Ermaun J. Joe (Cioe'), 83, of Fairmont died Wednesday (June 9, 2004) at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Fairmont, a son of the late Pietro and Rose Marie Italiano Joe (Cioe').
Ermaun graduated from St. Peters High School in 1939, where he was an all-star basketball player under the coaching of Jimmy Berry. He was an avid sportsman, bowler and square dancer. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Marian Council. Ermaun formerly worked for Cianfrocca's Landscaping and Gardening, Datillo's Fruit Market and C.V. News. He retired from Bethlehem Mines No. 41 and was a proud member of the U.M.W.A. where he received the Joseph Holmes Safety Association Award for working 40 years without a disabling injury in the underground mining industry. He also was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved having his family together.
Ermaun is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Louise David Modi Joe; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Ermaun L. and Charlotte Joe of Virginia and David L. and Sandy Joe of Milton; one daughter, Brenda M. Joe of Fairmont; one brother, David G. Cioe' of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren, Lisa Pickett, Michael Packard and his wife Chrissy, Eric Lee Joe and his wife Paula, Kimberly Sue Dellapuca and her husband Chris, Kristina Lynne Ott and her husband Bobby, and David Linn Joe Jr. and his wife Arleana; 10 great-grandchildren, Brandon Pickett, Derek Joe, Jessica Joe, Jeremy Joe, Justin Lowery, Anthony Copeland Dellapuca, Erin Dellapuca, Cody Michael Joe, Macy Ott and Mady Ott.

Donna Jean Miles, 59, of Haywood Road died Tuesday (June 8, 2004) at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1944, in Morgantown, a daughter of Helen Brookover Tennant of Clinton, Pa., and the late Adrian Tennant.
Mrs. Miles graduated from Clay-Battelle High School in 1961. She was employed for 27 years at Philips Lighting in Fairmont. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church. She was loved and deeply missed.
She was married on May 22, 1971, to Gerald 'Jeep' Miles. She has two sons, Greg Reesman and his wife Helen of Monongah and Jerry Ray Miles and his wife Kelly of Lost Creek; a stepdaughter, Kim Carder and her husband Ferlin of Shinnston; a brother, Dave Tennant and his wife Brenda of Jakes Run; two sisters, Carolyn Truver of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Marilyn Corbin of Core; three grandchildren, Brian Reesman, Dillon Carder and Whitney Carder; and several nieces and nephews.

Ermastine 'Teeny' Stuck, 95, of Fairmont, died Wednesday (June 9, 2004) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1908, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Pearl Clyde 'P.C.' and Glenoka Roberta Orr Atha.
Mrs. Stuck was a self-employed caterer of wedding cakes and party foods. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairmont and a recipient of the Lifetime Honorary for Presbyterian Women.
She was a 1927 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She was well known for her beautiful wedding and novelty cakes, finger foods and hand-painted cookies.
She was a sanctuary coordinator at church, a member of the Allen Mayers Bible class at church, as well as the Davis Circle.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Jane and Jim Thompson of Fairmont; one daughter-in-law, Loretta Stuck of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren and spouses, Pam and Terry Bunner of Fairmont, Raymond and Laurie Thompson of Kingwood, and George Paul Stuck of Richmond, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Shaver of Florida, Rachel Shaver of Fairmont, T.J. Thompson of Kingwood, Cody Thompson of Kingwood, and Ian Stuck of Richmond, Va.; a special friend, Julia Hacker of Fairmont; and her caregiver, Kim Mullens.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stuck was preceded in death by her husband, George Frederick Stuck in 1978; a son, Don Atha Stuck; and a brother, Paul Clyde 'Bud' Atha.
