GUS EUGENE MANNING, JR
Gus Eugene Manning, Jr. 33, a resident of
Route 1, Cedar Bluff, Va. died yesterday morning in a Richlands hospital
following a heart attack suffered earlier at his home.
He was born in Atlanta, Ga. a son of Gus
E. and Grace Tanner Manning. He was educated in the Atlanta schools
and followed teh vocation of steam fitting. He was a World War II
veteran having served 10 years with the U.S. Navy, nine years of overseas
duty. He was employeed by the Nello Teer Construction Company of
Durham, N. C. and had just returned from Iceland after eight months.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss
Lela Hoops, his parents of Columbus, O., one son, John Eugene Manning and
one daughter, Karen Ann Manning, both of Richlands; six brothers, Charles
G. of McCaney, Tex., Thomas E. of Youngstown, O., Robert of Cleveland,
O., and Ronnie, Billy and Terry, all of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert
Greene and Miss Donna Manning both of Columbus, O.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
The body is at Farmers Funeral Home in Richlands.

MRS MABEL BURKS Mrs. Mabel Burks, 70, wife of E. E. Burks,
former resident of Bluefiled, died Friday after an illness of one year
in the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Mr. Burks was a retired employee of the N&W
Railway in Bluefield and they had made their home in Beckley since his
retirement.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church
at Bluefield and was born in Norwood, Va.
Survivors include the husband, Edward E.
Burks; three brothers, F. N. Bolton, of *North Augusta, N. C*., J. W. Bolton,
of Bragg City, Mo., A. E. Bolson, of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs.
Merle Saunders, of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Mrs. Winnie Akers, of Falls
Church, Va.; a son, Sidney M. Burks, of El Cino, Calif.; two daughters,
Mrs. W. L. Penn, of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. K. A. Atkinson, of Beckley;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at Webb
and Quesenberry Funeral Chapter in Beckley at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow
with the Rev. James W. Witherspoon in charge. Body will remain at
the funeral home until time of services.
Burial will be in Monte Vista cemetery in
Princeton.

the only North Augusta I know of is in S. C.*
J. M. BLANKENSHIP J. M. Blankenship, 74, of Athens, died last
night at 8:15 o’clock at Memorial Hospital in Princeton where he had been
a patient for the past two weeks.
He was a reitred employee of the E. C. Minter
Coal Co. at Wyco, but had retired 10 years ago and had lived in Athens
since that time.
Born in 1883 at Princeton, he was twice married
and his first wife preceeded him in death several years ago. His
second marriage was in 1935 to Mrs. Betty Keatly, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons, William,
of New Jersey, and Ray of Detroit, Mich.; four daughters, Mrs. Roy Miller
and Mrs.Sam Alvis, and Mrs. Jerry Blankenship, all of Athens, and Mrs.
Norman Thomason, of Princeton; four step-daughters, Mrs. Garland Francis,
of Charlton Heights, Mrs. Robert Patteson, Narrows, Va., Mrs. Wirt Shumate,
Pearisburg, Va., and Mrs. Emory Hypes, Pineville; two step-sons, Rufus
H. and James K. Riddle, of Toledo, Ohio.
The body is at Bailey Funeral Home in Princeton
where funeral arrangements are incomplete.

ELBERT T. LAMBERT Funeral services for Elbert T. Lambert, 82,
of Rocky Gap, Va. will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Rocky Gap Methodist
with the Rev. R. E. Hamlin officiating. Burial will follow in the
Rocky Gap Cemetery.
Mr. Lambet died Thursday afternoon enroute
to a Bluefield hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1875 the son of the
late Alec A. and Liza Warner Lambert and had lived his enire life in Bland
County. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora C.
Lambert and a daughter Mrs. W. E. Burton of Clarksburg; two half-brothers,
McKinley and Vance Lambert both of Narrows, Va. and two half-sisters, Mrs.
W. D. Walmsley of Pearisburg and Mrs. Sidney Tickle of Wytheville, Va.
The body was removed to the residence yesterday
at 2 p.m. from Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va., and will be
placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be John Lambert, Palmer
Carrol, Raymond Stowers, Victor Gilley, Pete Sands, Gene Davis, Fred Simpkins
and J. C. Tuggle. Neighbors and other friends will serve as flower
bearers.
JAMES I. SWEENEY Funeral services for James I. Sweeney, 33,
of Princeton, who died Friday in a Princeton Hospital will be conducted
Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Kee St. Methodist Church in Princeton with Dr. R.
S. McClung and the pastor, the Rev. Richard L. Crickard. in charge.
Pallbearers will be C. J. Oxley, W. E. Pedneau,
S. D. White, R. B. Thompson, C. L. Peterson, C. J. Hylton. Honorary
pallbearers will be employes of the Virginian Railway in Princeton.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Princeton.
MRS. ELIZABETH WHITAKER Funeral services for Miss Elizabeth Whitaker,
84, who died Friday at the home of a niece, Mrs. Cora Couch at Isom, will
be held today at 10 a.m. from the Little Hope Church at Isom with the Revs.
Ted Swindell, Noah Deel and Lloyd Phitts officiating. Burial is in
the Addinton Cemetery at Elmira, Wise County.
Survivors include two brothers, W. P. Whitaker
of Isom and Rush Whitaker o f Wise, Va., one sister, Mrs. Frankie Mullins
of Stephens, W. Va. and several nieces and nephews.
Colley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MATTHEW HARVEY Matthew Harvey, about 73, retired businessmen
of Boissevain, Va., died suddenly early last night in teh store of Henry
Morris in Boissevain.
Body is at Pocahonas Union Funeral Home pending
arrangements.
