Helen Barlow, 83, of Masontown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Akron, Ohio.
She was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Preston County, daughter of the late Clyde A. and Margaret Shay Hovatter.
She was a homemaker, a custodian at WFSP radio station and a volunteer for Preston County Senior Citizens. She made crafts of all kinds and was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, James H. Barlow, Charles E. Barlow, Rex A. Barlow and Larry J. Barlow, all of Akron; five daughters, Mary V. DeBerry, Doris J. Voytek and Dorothy L. Williams, all of Akron, Lucy C. Williams, of Tunnelton, and Peggy M. Voytek Zeigler, of Morgantown; five brothers, Theadore Hovatter, of Akron, Rex Hovatter, of Rowlesburg, Zane Hovatter, of Kingwood, Tom Hovatter, of Sabraton, and Frank Hovatter, of Florida; three sisters, Betty Holmes, of Masontown, Flossie Conner, of Albright, and Billie Jo Waybrigh t, of Canton, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Alice Brailer, of Lorraine, Ohio, and Nettie Hovatter, of Rowlesburg; 32 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Barlow, in 1974; a daughter, Annabelle Barlow; two brothers, Donald and Kay Hovatter; and two sisters, Dorothy Hovatter and Anna Mary Foster.

James J. Longo
James J. Longo, 77, of Greensboro, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Lago, Italy, son of the late John and Agatha Guzzo Longo.
He lived in Greensboro most of his life, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Greensboro. He served in the 78th Lightning Division of the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II, and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1987 from Duquesne Light Warwick Mine and was a member of UMWA Duquesne Light Local 6310. He was a charter member and past commander of VFW Post 6303, Greensboro, and was a member of the 78th Division Association.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Popernack Longo, whom he married June 25, 1949; a son, John A. Longo, of Greensboro; two daughters, Nancy J. Sill, of Edwardsville, Ill., and Roberta A. Ravey, of Allison Park, Pa.; two grandchildren, Benjamin M. Sill and Katherine E. Sill; and a brother, William J. Longo, of Indian Wells, Calif.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Peter Longo, Leonard Longo and Patrick Longo, and two sisters, Josephine Longo, in infancy, and Atterina Barzanti.

Iva Myrtle Black
Iva Myrtle Black, 91, of Cassville-Mount Morris Road, Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the home of Dorothy Swihart, of Fairchance Road, where she had lived for 14 years.
She was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Mount Pleasant, Pa., daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah Myrtle Brown Armel.
She lived in Cassville 78 years, worked at Hotel Morgan in the 1960s, and was a member of Cassville Methodist Church.
She is survived by her close friend of 73 years, Ilene Shahan, whom she thought of as a daughter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, W.L. "Bill" Black, in 1967, and two sisters.

Connie Mack Setler
Connie Mack Setler, 46, of Rivesville, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Charleston, daughter of the late Walter Hugh and Maxine Hunter Williams.
She had attended Fair Haven Baptist Church, in Charleston. She was a graduate of DuPont High School, in Charleston, and of Charleston Beauty Academy. She had been a hairdresser in the Charleston and Morgantown areas for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Setler Jr.; a son, Philip Austin Cogar, of Drummond Island, Mich.; and a brother, Earl H. Williams, of South Charleston.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Phil Cogar.
Hastings Funeral Home will provide cremation services. A Memorial service at Fair Haven Baptist Church, in Charleston, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, with the Revs. Kenneth Townsend and David Kilburn officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.

A Memorial service will be held for Carol Jeanne Keys, 69, who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital, after a brief illness.

Jeremy K. Moore
Jeremy K. Moore, 16, of 2985 Daybrook Road, Fairview (Daybrook community), died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2000, from injuries in an automobile accident near Pentress.
He was born April 5, 1983, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, son of Kenny and Sharon McCabe Moore, of Daybrook.
He was a junior at Clay-Battelle High School and was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is also survived by a sister, Danielle Moore, of Daybrook; a nephew, Tylor VanScyoc, of Daybrook; his maternal grandmother, Thelma Jean Smyth McCabe, of Mooresville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenny McCabe, and his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Maxine Moore.

Dennis O. Overman
Dennis O. Overman, 56, of Morgantown, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 16, 1943, at Union City, Ind., son of Orton and Marjorie Overman, of Ohio.
He received his bachelor's from Bowling Green University, and his master's and Ph.D. in anatomy at the University of Michigan. He taught in the medical and dental schools at West Virginia University from 1971 to the present. He was an active member and leader at Morgantown Church of the Brethren and Morgantown North Rotary Club, and was active in Toastmasters and international programs such as Council of International Programs.
He is also survived by his wife, Sue Overman; his children and spouses, Andy and Janet Overman, of Pittsburgh, Mike and Julie Overman, of Evanston, Ill., and Amy and Darren Huckaby, of Clarksburg; his in-laws, Ann and Jim Eddy, of Ohio; his grandchildren, Isabel Overman and Kayla Huckaby; his adopted Finnish son, Rainer Hinsberg, and adopted Guatemalan granddaughter, Elizabeth Fleisher, of Morgantown; a brother, Mark Overman, of Ohio; and two sisters, Nancy Strezze, of Connecticut, and Diane Mueller, of North Carolina.

Roger Dale Compton
Roger Dale Compton, 49, of University Avenue, Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at MonPointe Continuing Care Center, Morgantown, after a long illness.
He was born March 22, 1950, in Taylor County, son of Alice Jane Morris Compton, of Martinsburg, and the late James Roger Compton.
He graduated from West Virginia Rehabilitation School at Institute. He was a lifelong Baptist and most recently attended First Baptist Church in Morgantown.
He is also survived by his wife, Carol Maxwell Compton; two daughters and spouses, Shelby Dawn and Manuel Montoya, of Martinsburg, and Kristie Donnell and Daniel Spencer Sr., of Fairmont; a sister, Joyce Compton, of Morgantown; a brother, Blaine Compton, of Bristol, Tenn.; five granddaughters, Erica Estele Montoya, Anjelica Maria Montoya, Alicia Bentura Montoya, Tiffany Donnell Snyder and Kimberly Kaylynn Spencer; a grandson, Daniel Okey Roger Spencer; and three aunts, Mary Lemmon, of Morgantown, and Ma ry Khunes and Marcelle Riggleman, both of Grafton.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Compton, and a stepdaughter, Paula Maxwell.

Ruth E. Coogle, 75, of Rivesville, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Henry Clay Villa Nursing Home, Markleysburg, Pa.
She was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Mount Clare, Harrison County, daughter of the late Wesley and Minerva Greynolds.
She is survived by a son and spouse, William and Charlotte Coogle, of Fairmont; a daughter and spouse, Carol and Raymond Mullins, of Santa Clara, Calif.; a sister, Annabee Ray, of Holly Hill, Fla.; a granddaughter and spouse, Dawn and Keith Spear, of Bruceton Mills; a great-grandson, Christopher Spear, of Bruceton Mills; and two sisters-in-law, Erma Greynolds, of Barrackville, and Juanita Greynolds, of Westover.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William L. Coogle, six brothers and three sisters.

Virginia Capage Kyle
Virginia Capage Kyle, 60, of 531 Werninger St., Clarksburg, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at United Hospital Center, after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Clarksburg, daughter of the late Edward N. and Lena C. Daniels Capage.
She was a member of Marconi Lodge Sons of Italy, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksburg, Harrison County Senior Citizens and AARP, and was a former member of Elks Auxiliary. She graduated from Notre Dame High in 1957 and attended Salem College. She was an avid reader and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Karl B. Kyle Jr.; a son and spouse, Dr. Karl Edward and Michele Kyle, of Houston; two brothers, Dr. James Capage, of Morgantown, and Dr. Mike Capage, of Houston; and two grandchildren, Gabrielle T. Kyle and Christian W. Kyle.

Lillian Katherine Freeman, 75, of Chatham Hill community, near Farmington, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Edward and Edith Lewis Jones.
She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Chatham Hill, and of the church's Usher Board.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Freeman Johnson, of Fairmont, and Miss Shirley Freeman, of Farmington; a stepdaughter, Earlene Jones, of Fairmont; five sons, John Freeman Jr. and Mark Freeman, both of Farmington, Gary Freeman, of Fairmont, Larry Freeman, of Monongah, and Terry Freeman, of Meadowbrook; a sister, Mattie Smith, of Fairmont; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John S. Freeman, on Sept. 29, 1980; a daughter, Frace Freeman Sims; a stepdaughter, Miss Ruth Freeman; a stepson, Lorenzo Freeman; two brothers, Bill Jones and Curtis Jones; and a sister, Virginia Lee.

Wesley E. Wiles, 76, of Tunnelton, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Preston County, son of the late Percy E. and Violet McVicker Wiles.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Col. Rowan VFW Post 2345, Tunnelton. He retired as a coal miner from Island Creek Coal Co. He was a member of UMWA District 31 and Mountain View United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Wesley A. "Pete" Wiles, of Tunnelton; a daughter, Vicki Dearing, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Theodore "Gene" Wiles, of Tunnelton, Terry Wiles, of Arthurdale, and Lonnie Wiles, of Ohio; two sisters, Phyllis Conlon, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Patricia Knett, of Trenton, N.J.; six grandchildren, Sherri Biggins, Cindy Smouse, Melissa Shannon, Scott Wiles, Chablis Gallo and Michael Gallo; and five great-grandchildren, Shelby Smouse, Bryer Smouse, Chyene Biggins, Jesse Bigg ins and Allyson Wiles.

Lawrence Albert DeWitt, 79, of Dorsey Avenue, Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Preston County, son of the late George Reese and Hester Gribble DeWitt.
He was formerly a coal miner at Wilkins Coal, Maidsville, and Welmouth Consolidated Mines, near Kingwood, and later worked with Chessie System.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ellen Everly DeWitt; five daughters, Barbara Campbell, of Richard, Mary Ellen (Mrs. William) Carpenter, of Auburn, Wash., Phyllis Tonkin and Carolyn S. DeWitt, both of Morgantown, and JoAnn Jackson, of Seattle; three sons, Lawrence J. DeWitt, Charles F. DeWitt and Terry L. She was born in Italy, daughter of the late Angelo and Angeline Ziccarelli Bruni.
She was a member of St. Hubert Roman Catholic Church, The Rosary Altar Society, and Christian Mothers. She had been self-employed and was co-owner of Colonial Hotel, Point Marion.
She is survived by two daughters and a spouse, Elaine B. Gatto, of Point Marion, and Evelyn B. and Felix Meale, of Pittsburgh; a son and spouse, Arthur and Billie Bruni, of Edgewater, Md.; eight grandchildren, Susan Bruni Jones, Dominick Bruni, Anthony Gatto, Roseann Gatto Hughes, Mary Katherine Bruni Leadbeatter, Terry Elaine Bruni Parkinson, Rosemarie Meale and Felix G. Meale; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elvere Provenzo, of New Kensington, Pa., Edith Spadafore, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sop hia Franks, of Pittsburgh; and a sister-in-law, Kay Bruni, of Scottsdale.

David Selvy Summers, 67, of Route 3, Cherry Run Road, Grafton, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh.
He was born July 16, 1932, in Grafton, son of the late Charles and Mary Alma Moran Summers.
He retired from C&W Coal Co., in Grafton, with 29 years of service. He was formerly employed at Sears & Robuck Co., and was an insurance salesman for Modern Woodmen of the World. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of McConkey Free Will Methodist Church, Cherry Run.
He is survived by his wife, Eunetta J. Skinner Summers; three sons, Mark D. Shaffer, Jeffery A. Shaffer and David L. Summers, all of Grafton; a daughter, Rebecca Summers, of Morgantown; and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pasdrick.

Charles "Rick" Phillips, 32, of Mayfield Road, Morgantown, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 19, 1967, in Morgantown, son of Charles Paul and Helen Shannon Phillips, of Morgantown.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Dellslow Hunting and Fishing Club and Pioneer Sportsman Club. He was a boiler operator with EEG, the Department of Energy.
He is also survived by his wife, Julie Henkins Phillips; a son, Tristan Scott Phillips, at home; a sister, Leighann Bean, of Morgantown; and maternal grandparents, Walter Harold and Mary Shannon, of Morgantown.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul B. "Dutch" and Louwilla Phillips.

She was born April 26, 1908, in Tunnelton, daughter of the late Harmon and Emma McMurdo Koch.
She was a former member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. She worked at West Virginia University Library in the binding department, and later as a housekeeper.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Howard and Pam Morris, of Birmingham; a daughter and spouse, Jean and Joseph Pastor, of California; a daughter-in-law, Betty Morris, of Shriver; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Shirley Jean Denjen, 60, of Apolla Drive, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Warren S. and Beatrice Marcum Buchanan.
She was a homemaker and a home health care worker. She was an avid country music fan and enjoyed bingo. She was a member of Women of the Moose, and of the Democratic Women's League of Voters.
She is survived by her husband, Roy J. Denjen Sr.; two sons and spouse, Roy J. "R.J." Lera Browning Brown
Lera Browning Brown, 82, of Carriage Drive, Beckley, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in a Charleston hospital.
She was born March 26, 1917, in Logan County, daughter of the late Frances Marion and Rose Ada Hatfield Browning and granddaughter of the late Anderson "Devil Anse" and Levisa Chaffin Hatfield.
She spent her childhood in Logan, graduated from Logan High School and attended Logan College and WVU. She was head of the National Bank of Logan loan department until 1950, when she moved to Morgantown with her husband, Londo Brown, a law professor at WVU for 28 years.
An avid golfer, she was a member of Black Knight Country Club and Beckley Presbyterian Church, where she was a steward.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Claude Anderson and Ruth Ann Brown, of Lancaster, Calif.; a daughter and spouse, Cindy K. Brown and Rick Parker, of Alderson; four grandchildren, Michael Sean Brown, Scott Anderson Brown and his wife, Kelly, Laurie Parker and Chris Parker; and a large extended family and host of friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Londo Brown, in 1989; a sister, Visa Carr; and three brothers, Robert Anderson "Anse" Browning, Willis Browning and Joe Browning.
Friends may call at Melton Mortuary Inc., 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, and from noon Friday, Jan. 7, until 1 p.m. service with the Rev. Robin Debnam officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Grace Ann Kolenkovich
Grace Ann Kolenkovich, of 707 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Hazel Park, Mich., daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Campbell Lentz.
She was a manager of Westover Motel and a postal clerk at Osage Post Office. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Stanley Kolenkovich, of Morgantown; two brothers, Herb Lentz and George Lentz, both of Michigan; and two sisters, Pearl Mitchell and Evelyn Tocheua, both of Michigan.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Lentz, and a sister, Laura Kunko.
Memorial service will be held at a later date. Davidson-Mancinelli Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Louise Shelton
Louise Shelton, 97, of Wishing Well Health Center, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Wishing Well.
She was born Aug. 6, 1902, at Dottesfeld, Germany, daughter of the late Wilhelm and Amalie Reliter Hartstang.
She was a member of Pitcher Methodist Church, of Dakota, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a bookkeeper for Jones Department Store.
She is survived by a brother, Walter Hartstang, of Germany.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William R. Shelton; a brother, Wilhelm Hartstang; and three sisters, Erna Hartstang Barrackman, Friedl Hartstang Schumann and Amalie Hartstang.
