Virginia B. Susick, 72, of the Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Frances Mine, Harrison County, daughter of the late Edward D. and Helen Johnson Kalbaugh.
She owned and operated Virginia's Mini-Mart convenience store on the Kingwood Pike for many years and also worked as a bookkeeper and secretary.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Krump and Barbara Austin, both of Morgantown; and seven grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Steve Susick.
Friends may call at Nicholson Chapel Church on Summers School Road from 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, until noon service with the Revs. David Hilling and William K. Matheny Jr. officiating. Lottie Ellen Mike
Lottie Ellen Mike, 94, of R.R. 2, Gilboa Road community, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 7, 1905, in Mannington, daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Jones Mike.
She was a mother and homemaker. Her hobbies included fishing, sewing, quilts and cooking for large gatherings of friends and family. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
She is survived by a son and spouse, James Harold and Mary Lou Scritchfield, of Fairmont; two daughters, Margaret Ethel Mike Strawser, of Fairmont, and Hazel Kathleen Hollobaugh Parker, of Mannington; two grandchildren, William Harold Scritchfield, of Kentucky, and Dorothy Elaine Riley; two stepgrandchildren and spouse, Howard Strawser and Kurtis and Rickie Helgrson; nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Glen Mike, Leslie Mike, Elmer Mike, Harry Mike and an infant; two sisters, Lucy Simpson and Bessie Higginbotham; a grandson, Kermit Bill Parker; and a granddaughter, Brenda Marie Scritchfield Furbee.

Walter M. Mahoney
Walter Maywood Mahoney, 76, of Mannington, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1923, at Lumberport, son of the late David Mahoney and Alice King Mahoney Wright.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mannington. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Barrackville Mine, with 43 years of service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen Jane Mahoney Moore, of Mannington; six grandchildren, Michael William Fleming, of Fairmont, Lisa Ann Terrett, of Indianapolis, Homer Lee Moore Jr., of Mannington, Thomas Brian Moore, of Columbus, Ohio, Jonathan Matthew Moore, of Nashville, Tenn., and Patrick F. Moore, of Fairmont; a sister, Ruth Hartley, of Mannington; a brother, Thomas Kemp, of Carlisle, Pa.; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Mahoney, on Nov. 14, 1997; a daughter, Ethel Ruth Mahoney Carrier; two brothers, Albert and Thurman Mahoney; and a sister, Ethel McCracken Stier.

Hazel E. Fulton
Hazel E. Fulton, 86, of Rowlesburg, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Kingwood.
She was born July 7, 1913, in Henry, daughter of the late George P. and Elva Schrock Lipscomb.
She was a homemaker and was Southern Baptist.
She is survived by four sons, Edward Lee Fulton and Robert A. Fulton, both of Hendrick, Curtis M. Fulton, of Stuarts Draft, Va., and Howard F. Fulton, of Parsons; a daughter, Elva L. Thompson, of Parsons; two brothers, Robert P. Lipscomb, of Durbin, and Lonzo S. Lipscomb, of Augusta; two sisters, Betty Rydzewski, of Rowlesburg, and Lela M. Uphold, of Albright; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merrell E. Fulton.
A Memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Browning Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, Rowlesburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Curtis L. Goines
Curtis L. Goines, 32, of Parkersburg, formerly of Kingwood, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Mount Carmel Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, after a long illness.
He is the son of Sarah McDonald Goines, of Parkersburg, formerly of Kingwood, and the late Edward Goines.

Kate M. Ulrich
Kate M. Ulrich, 94, of Baker's Ridge, Morgantown, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the Madison Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born April 23, 1905, in Hamburg, Germany, daughter of the late Louie and Dorathea Haul Muetzelfelt.
She completed her studies at the Hamburg Volks Opera and immigrated through Ellis Island to New York City to pursue a career in opera. While working in New York City, she met her husband of 72 years, Charles G. Ulrich. They settled in Hanover, N.J., to work and raise their family. When they retired, they moved to Reddick, Fla. After her husband's death in 1996 and a lengthy illness, she moved to Morgantown, to be with her family. She was Lutheran. Her family and friends will remember her generosity and distinctive personality.
She is survived by a daughter, Florence K. Van Winckle, of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Charles P. Ulrich, of Deerfield, N.J., and Valentin, and his wife, Nancy Ulrich, of Morgantown; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Schutt.
Following cremation, there will be a private family service and interment in Hanover, N.J. Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Howard D. Shaffer
Howard D. Shaffer, 79, of Charleston, formerly of Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in General Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was retired from General Cable Corp., in New York, and from West Virginia Bureau of Employment as the disabled veterans outreach specialist. He was a graduate of West Virginia University. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received two Bronze Stars for the Normandy and northern France campaigns. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, the Disabled American Veterans and Christ Church United Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Friede Shaffer; three daughters, Margaret L. Shaffer, Kathleen S. Peet and Elisabeth Shaffer-Lilly, a son, Eric J. Lilly, and two grandchildren, Lauren E. Peet and Jackson Shaffer Lilly, all of Charleston.

John L. Findley
John L. Findley, 87, of Flemington, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.
He was born Nov. 26, 1912, at Buck Run, Taylor County, son of the late Earnest Leon and Edythe Springer Findley.
He earned an associate's degree from Fairmont State College, a bachelor's from Alderson-Broaddus College and a master's from West Virginia University. He taught at the one-room school at Buck Run for four years. He also taught at Rosemont, Webster, and Flemington High School, where he retired in 1971 after 38 years. He was a member of Flemington United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school; Flemington Senior Citizens; Taylor County Retired School Personnel; and Brooks Bird Club. He was charter president of the 1946 Flemington Lions Club and is a charter member and past Board of Directors member of the present Flemington Lions Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Taylor County Fair.
He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Joleene and Jack L. Minear, of Beckley; two sons and spouses, Roger A. and Kay Findley, of Flemington, and J. Sheldon and Linda H. Findley, of Grafton; three sisters, Thelma Cain, of Fairmont, Nelda Hardman, of Flemington, and Maudella Findley, of Fairmont; two brothers, Hal S. Findley, of Flemington, and W. Roland Findley, of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Jacaleene, Jonavieve, Jonathan, John "Jef," Bryce, Christopher and Shelly; three great-grandchildren, N oah, Jared and Julianna; and a step-granddaughter, Jade.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Bryan Findley, on Nov. 4, 1999, and a brother, Paul M. Findley.

Curtis Edward Goines
Curtis Edward Goines, 32, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born Oct. 14, 1967, in Kingwood, son of Sarah McDonald, of Parkersburg, and the late Edward Lee Goines Jr.
He played Little League football and baseball, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a 1985 graduate of Parkersburg South High School, where he was in the Junior ROTC and was a member of the drill team. He was in the Leadership camp of the West Virginia National Guard in Kingwood, where he received an honorable discharge. He attended college at WVU and graduated from Mountain State College as a paralegal. He was previously employed at Burns Security as a security guard and was a member of Whitman Chap el AME, Belpre, Ohio.
He is also survived by four brothers, Roger McDonald, of Vincent, Marcus McDonald, of Kingwood, Nathan Goines, of Mineral Wells, and Steven Goines, of Parkersburg; three half brothers, Clarence, Ronald and David Goines, all of Columbus; and a special nephew, Derrick McCoy, of Mineral Wells.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Goines III.

Lester A. Wolfe
Lester A. Wolfe, 79, of Terra Alta, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at East View Group Home, Terra Alta.
He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Terra Alta, son of the late Christina Lawson Wolfe.
He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Terra Alta, and Lake Ford (Md.) U.M. Church.
He is survived by a brother, Kermit Q. Wolfe, and sister, Thelma Miller, both of Albright.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Buckner, Chester, Harris and Harry Wolfe, and a sister, Nellie Fultz.

Arlie Fay Kuhn
Arlie Fay Kuhn, 84, of Route 1, Fairview, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Dec. 1, 1915, at Farmington, son of the late Harry and Lucy Davis Kuhn.
He was a former coal miner, retiring from Fairview Furnace. He was a member of Washington Church of Christ, in Fairview, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the UMWA.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Doris Santee Kuhn; two daughters and a spouse, Oneita Opyoke, and Loretta and Donald Powell, all of Fairview; two sons and a spouse, Larry Fay and Brenda Kuhn, of Fairview, and Rodney Kuhn, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, Kinsey Kirk Kuhn, of Lorain, Ohio; three sisters, Zelphia McVicker, of Glover Gap, and Nioma Synder and Carol Kinter, both of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Tom and Kristy Opyoke, Tami Prine, Larry Kuhn II, Shawn and Garry Kuhn, Tina Hawkins, Jo ey Gillespie, and Carry Tulanowski; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Kuhn Jr., and two sisters, Lillian Howard and Delsia Driscoll.

Irene Evelyn Pratt
Irene Evelyn Howland Pratt, 83, of South Pike Street, Anmoore, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Alliance Personal Care Home, Grafton.
She was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, daughter of the late Alma and Tell Howland.
She had been a clerk or secretary at McCrory's, Waldo Hotel, Matthew Brothers and Pace Oil and Pipeline. She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 52 for many years, attaining the highest honor, College of Regions Degree, at Heart of Illinois Moose, June 15, 1964. She was a member of Clarksburg Eagles Club, Harrison County Senior Citizens, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Selden O. and Judy Pratt, of Masontown, and a grandson, Darrell Lee "Duke" Pratt, of Bridgeport.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Oscar Pratt, on Nov. 24, 1998 (they were married Dec. 4, 1940, in Boston), and two brothers.

Arnel E. Wright
Arnel E. Wright, 88, Brownton, Barbour County, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Brownton, son of the late John Willis and Stella Virginia Callahan Wright.
He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was a member of Galloway Senior Citizens, and Mount Vernon PTA, and retired in 1972 after 42 years with Ohio Mining Co. He has lived in Brownton all his life.
He is survived by two sons, Ernest E. Wright, of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Duard D. Wright, of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Doris L. Wolfe, of New Freedom, Pa., Wanda J. Trollinger, of Picayune, Miss., and Barbara A. McGee, of Philippi; three sisters, Audra Gregory, of Sutton, Mildred Mouser, of Jane Lew, and Elwanda Delauder, of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, David Wright, of Niles, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Maxine Wright, on Feb. 24, 1996; a son, Clifford Dale Wright; five brothers, Floyd, George, James, Raymond and Guy; and four sisters, Allie, Gertrude, Florence and Stella.
Service at Carnegie Funeral Home will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, with Pastor Wayne McCauley officiating. Burial will be in Flemington IOOF Cemetery.
Russell C. Wiles
Russell C. "Sunfish" Wiles, 93, of Rowlesburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Kingwood.
He was born Sept. 24, 1906, at Saltlick, son of the late Leonard D. and Grace Lantz Wiles.
He began working at age 12 for Alpha Cement Co., tying bags of cement for 25 cents a week. He also worked in the tin shop, ran a coal dryer, and was a mechanic. He retired from the agriculture division of Ruby Industries.
He is survived by a son, George Wiles, of Rowlesburg; a stepson, Charles E. Steringer, of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna May Steringer Wiles, seven brothers and two sisters.

Thomas D. McCroby
Thomas D. McCroby, 68, of Marion Unity Apartments, Fairmont, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at his home.
He was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Morgantown, son of the late Okey and Ruth Coburn McCroby.
He retired from Beaumont Glass Co., Morgantown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a life member of West Virginia Chapter 45 Disabled American Veterans. He was Protestant.
He is survived by three aunts, Mrs. Estelle Christoph, of Morgantown, Mrs. Eleanor Debolt, of Fairmont, and Mrs. Mary Kelly, of New Castle, Pa.

Elizabeth Johnson
Elizabeth J. Johnson, 37, of Littleton, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 20, 1962, in Weirton, daughter of the late Lawrence and Lydia Ruth Hamilton Murphy.
She was a devoted homemaker and mother. A member of the Hundred Band Boosters, she was involved in all band functions. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Littleton, and was a 1980 graduate of Hundred High School.
She is survived by her husband, Jonathan Johnson; two children, Erika J. Johnson and Nathan D. Johnson, both at home; a brother, Dennis Murphy, of Littleton; a sister, Marie Morris, of Reader; an aunt, Nellie Murphy, of Littleton; and an uncle, Arthur Murphy, of Waynesburg, Pa.

Harry M. King
Harry M. "Buster" King, 92, of Wadestown, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Sundale Nursing Home.
He was born May 12, 1907, at Wadestown, a son of the late James B. and Prudie Yost King.
He retired after 30 years as a school bus driver for the Monongalia County Board of Education. He was a farmer and loved to fox hunt. He was a member of Wadestown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Evelyn King; three sons and two spouses, John and Joann King, Mack and Francis King, and Jack L. King, all of Wadestown; a sister, Nellie King, of Wadestown; eight grandchildren, Dr. Mark R. King, Cindy Barnhart, Billy King, Tami Milush, Margie Temple, Valerie Copeland, Mack King Jr. and Lynn King; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Billy E. King; two brothers, Corb King and Paul King; and a sister, Mary Cowell.

Helen Chenoweth Church
Helen K. Chenoweth Church, 92, of Latrobe Street, Grafton, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.
She was born July 17, 1907, in Grafton, daughter of the late Verner H. Sr. and Margaret Metheny Chenoweth.
She taught school in Berkeley County and Taylor County for 30 years. She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and Fairmont State College and had a bachelor of arts degree. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Grafton, Naomi Chapter 12 OES and the Retired Teachers Association, and was a former member of Grafton Business and Professional Women's Club, the Quota Club of Grafton and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a niece and spouse, Stephanie Chenoweth and Dr. David Vockell, of Cincinnati, and two great-nephews, the Rev. Jay Kanerva, of Oklahoma, and Brett Kanerva, of Cincinnati.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hugh L. Church, and a brother, Dr. V.H. Chenoweth Jr., and his wife, Phyllis C. Chenoweth.

Junior Harold Weaver, 71, of Piketon, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Piketon.
He was born June 7, 1928, in Tunnelton, son of the late George H. and Agnes Shaw Weaver.
He was retired from U.S. Steel Co., in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was Protestant.
He is survived by two sisters and spouses, Loretta and Lloyd "Junior" Shackelford, of Grafton, and Barbara and Eugene Canfield, of Fairmont; a brother and spouse, Thomas E. and Mildred Weaver, of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Peggy J. Weaver, of Fairmont, and a brother-in-law, Sam Pisino, of Grafton; two daughters, Carol Ann Beveridge, of Kingwood, and Mrs. William (Kay) Berthy, of Mannington; two sons, John W. James A. Faughn Sr.
James A. Faughn Sr., D.V.M., 88, of Fairmont, formerly of Benton, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 23, 1911, in Heights, Ky., son of the late Halet Forrest and Katie Collie Faughn.
He returned to Fairmont in March 1999 to be with his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah F. and Dr. Stephen Haynes. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 24 years of service in the Meat Inspection Division, serving at various stations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. From 1941-1951, he operated his own veterinarian hospital in Benton, specializing in large animals. He graduated from Macteer in McKenzie, Tenn., attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Auburn Unive rsity in 1941 as a doctor of veterinary medicine.
He was a 63-year member of the AF & AM Masons, T.L. Jefferson-Benton Lodge 622, of Benton. He attended Reidland (Ky.) Baptist Church and was Methodist. He was an avid rabbit hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons. After his retirement, he tended a vegetable garden.

Faughn Jr., of Meeker, Colo., Thomas Michael Faughn, of Atlanta, and John Daniel and Dawn Faughn, of Tallahassee, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Deborah Lynn Haynes, Donald Stephen Haynes Jr., James David Faughn, Jill Ann Faughn Hess, Michael Reed Faughn, Meredith Ashby Faughn Bird, Jason Elder Faughn and Joshua James Faughn; and three great-grandchildren, Molly Anne Hess, Eston Rogers Hess and Erica Elizabeth-Ann Faughn.
He was also preceded in death by three wives, Anthal Fowle-Faughn in 1968, Cleveland Thomas Faughn in 1976, and Loretta Hill Faughn in 1999; and a brother, Joseph F. Faughn.
Friends may call at Collier Funeral Home, in Benton, Ky., from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, until 11 a.m. service, with the Rev. Kent Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cemetery in Benton. T.L. Jefferson-Benton Lodge 622 will conduct graveside Masonic rites. Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Iverna M. Harrison
Iverna M. Harrison, 78, of Water Street, Salem, formerly of Clarksburg and Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in a local nursing home after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Grafton, daughter of the late Thomas H. and Ora D. Morris Marquess.
She was a member of the Monongalia Senior Citizen Literary Guild, a volunteer at Sundale Nursing Home, in Morgantown, and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of the Lutheran Church Women.
She is survived by a son, James M. and Deborah Harrison, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Natalie and Lewis Traugh, of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Harrison; four grandchildren and a spouse, Debra and Danny Minnix, of Shinnston, Corey Harrison, of Burdett, Texas, Melissa Neesen, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jamie Harrison, of Morgantown; two stepgrandchildren, Miriam Newman and Nathan Newman, both of Fairmont; and three great-grandchildren, Duke, Megan and Logan Minnix, all of Shinnston.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James M. Harrison Sr., who died in 1980; an infant daughter, Carol Lynne Harrison; and a son, Michael T. Harrison.
Friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, with the Rev. James L. Caton II officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mildred Glasscock Wright
Mildred Virginia Glasscock Wright, 79, of Mannington, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Wetzel County, daughter of the late John and Nancy Leasure Glasscock.
She is survived by a sister, Loretta Wright, of Hundred; a half-brother, Denver Stracher, of Ohio; two daughters, Geraldine Arnold, of Fairmont, and Priscilla Patterson, of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Darlene Hines, Bernard Arnold Jr., Joyce Arnold and Douglas Arnold, all of Fairmont, Debra Winkler, of Dallas, and Letia Tenhave, of Topsham, Maine; 10 great-grandchildren, Stephen Hines Jr., John Hines, David Hines, Rebekah Hines, Jeremiah Hines and Michelle Banks, all of Fairmont, Logan Sheppa rd, Shayne Arnold, Cecil Sorsby and Misti Dawn Hester, all of San Antonio, Texas; and three great-great-grandchildren, Zachary Tenhave, McKayla Tenhave and Cori Sorsby, all of San Antonio.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Golden Howard Wright, on Nov. 19, 1989; a brother, Daniel Glasscock; and two sisters, Lucille Johnson and Opal Hamilton.
Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, in Mannington, from 2-9 p.m. Friday. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, with Ray Lipscomb officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
