Janet Conner, 55, of Albright, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Kingwood.
She was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Washington, D.C., daughter of Ethel Beckman Britton, of Tunnelton, and the late William Burley Britton.
She worked in the housekeeping department for the Heldreth Motel and Heartland of Preston County.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Conner; two sons, Johnny James Adams and Jerry Joe Adams, both of Tunnelton; two brothers, William "Butch" Britton, of Tunnelton, and the Rev. Tim Britton, of Buckhannon; five sisters, Judy Cramer and Peggy Gable, both of Tunnelton, Iris Kiblinger, of Kingwood, Joyce Ervin, of Masontown, and Misty Barkley, of Cumberland, Md.; and three grandsons, Justin, Nathan and Zacklary.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Adams, in 1985, and a brother, Tommy Britton.

Marianna Murray
Marianna Murray, 55, of Dellslow, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born April 20, 1945, in Bluefield, daughter of the late Clifford and Dolly Cleo Wells.
She was a homemaker, and Protestant.
She is survived by her husband, James M. "Skip" Murray Jr.; a daughter and spouse, Pamela and Ray Perkins, of Dellslow; two sons, Keith A. Green, of North Carolina, and Donald K. Green, of Downingtown, Pa.; a sister and spouse, Sherry and Virgil Zervos, of Moundsville; a brother and spouse, Ronald and Ella Rae Wells, of Richmond, Va.; and her mother-in-law, Virginia Murray of Morgantown.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles C. Wells.
At the request of the deceased, her body will be cremated. There will be no service. Donations: Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, c/o WVU Hospitals, Morgantown, W,V or to the American Cancer Society. The Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred is in charge of arrangements.
Patti J. Brown Rukavina
Patti J. Brown Rukavina, 44, of Route 3, Grafton, Haymond community, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1956, in Clarksburg, daughter of the late Matt and Wilma Rollins Brown.
She was a beloved wife and mother. She was self-employed and raised cattle. She was also a former member of the Taylor County Board of Education from 1994-1998 and was a 4-H leader. She was a present member of the Farm Service Agency and a supporter of the Taylor County Junior Livestock Association.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Rukavina, whom she married Dec. 22, 1982; a daughter, Michelle Rukavina, at home; a sister and spouse, Janet and Fred Hollandsworth, of Cowen; and her mother-in-law, Blanche Rukavina, of Grafton.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverly Brown.

Anna Marie Nicholas, 91, formerly of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Los Angeles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with the Rev. Colombo Bandiera as celebrant. Burial will bein the East Oak Grove Cemetery. Dering's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Earl J. Nicola
Earl J. Nicola, 90, of Bruceton Mills, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in the Sundale Nursing Home, Morgantown.
He was born Sept. 26, 1909, in Hazelton, son of the late Jeremiah Judson and Jessie E. Harshbarger Nicola.
He was a member of the Shady Grove Church of the Brethren, Bruceton Mills, and was a retired coal miner, electrician, plumber and carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Edna Guthrie Nicola, of Bruceton Mills; a son, Robert E. Nicola, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; a daughter and spouse, Dorothy Jean and William D. Whipkey, of Morgantown; a brother, Judson J. Nicola, of Hopwood, Pa.; two sisters, Margaret E. Moody, of Hopwood, Pa. and Thelma Conway, of Uniontown, Pa.; six grandchildren, Arveta Nicola, Cathy Dudziak, Barbara Bauer, Robert Nicola Jr., Dan G. Whipkey and Tamara Lynn Gatian; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-gran dchildren.
He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Maxine and Martha Nicola; a brother, Ray Nicola; and three sisters, Rose Taggart Hutchinson, Pauline Glover Collins and Marie Greenhouse.

Sylvia Jane Johnson Welch, 57, of Pasadena, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
She was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Grafton, daughter of Kenneth E. Johnson and the late Mary Jane Robinson Johnson.
She was a homemaker and grandmother of eight.
She is also survived by her husband, Larry J. Welch; a son, Kenneth W. Welch, of Pasadena; a daughter, Sylvia R. Lloyd, of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother, Arnold Johnson, of Palmetto, Fla.; and a sister, Karen LaPenna, of Parkton, Md.

Edna Garland Wise
Edna Garland Wise, 79, of Wana, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1921, at Miracle Run, daughter of the late Joseph and Eva Tuttle Park.
She was a homemaker, wife and grandmother, and a member of First Assembly of God Church, Waynesburg, Pa.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John "Steve" Wise; two sons and spouses, Donald and Charlotte Wise, and Richard and Sandy Wise, all of Wana; five grandchildren and three spouses, John and Susan Wise, Kathy and Bruce Sine, Shannon and Eric Filburn, Todd Wise and Lori Wise; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Jacob Wise and Erica Barrette; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sarah.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Park and Roy Park.

Lulu Belle Walker
Lulu Belle Walker, 92, of Point Marion Road, recently of the Joyce Triplett Personal Care Home on River Road, Morgantown, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born March 3, 1908, in Monongalia County, daughter of the late Harry Curtis and Margaret Gertrude Cartwright Mayles.
She was a longtime member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a homemaker for the H.C. Greer family for many years and is the last surviving member of the Cartwright family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Walker, on June 16, 1997; three brothers, William, Davis and Everett; and two sisters, Margaret and Genieve.

Adrian M. Fast, 73, of Blueville Drive, Grafton, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.
She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Grafton, daughter of the late Roy C. Poling and Ruth P. Fike Poling of Rosewood Nursing Home.
She was a homemaker, baby sitter and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the American Baptist Women and the Eastern Star Naomi Lodge 12. She attended the Beulah Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Brenda and Timothy Gerkin, of Grafton; a son and spouse, Rodney and Theresa Fast, of Spencer, Ohio; two granddaughters, Holly Gerkin, of Martinsburg, and Adrienne Gerkin, of Orlando, Fla.; a mother-in-law, Freda Fast, of Grafton; a brother, Alfred Poling, and wife Margaret, of Grafton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Fast, whom she married June 21, 1947, on July 20, 1981; a grandson, Rodney Brent Fast Jr.

Della S. Vincent
Della S. Vincent, 87, of Fairmont, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, in her home.
She was born May 26, 1913, in Rosealia, Kan., daughter of the late Albert E. and Jessie A. Stillwell Sloan.
She was Protestant and a homemaker. She was also a member of VFW 7048 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, watching television and her collection of stuffed animals.
She is survived by a daughter, Goldie Vandergift, of Fairmont; a son and spouse, Merrick B. "Bud" and Nancy Vincent, of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Robert Lee Sloan, of New Castle, Ind.; a sister, Addabell Tomblin, of Grafton; five grandchildren, Susan M. Sole, William G. Wilson, John C. Wilson, Brad Vincent and David Vincent; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Vincent, who was a casualty of World War II; an infant son, Howard Vincent; two brothers and one sister; and a longtime companion, Clarence C. Brown.

Joseph 'Joe' Salerno
Joseph "Joe" Salerno, 77, of Route 1, Shinnston, known for always wearing his white engineer's hat, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 7, 1923, at Wyatt, son of the late Tony and Mary Rose Yock Salerno.
He was founder and president of Salerno Brothers Inc., founded June 21, 1946. He was also the founder and owner of the Country Kitchen in Clarksburg, and owned and operated many rental properties throughout the state. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Shinnston, and the Columbian Club of Clarksburg.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Gross Salerno, whom he married April 4, 1959; a daughter and spouse, Patzi Jo and Jeffrey Coe, of Flowery Branch, Ga.; four brothers, Sam Salerno, of Fraser, Mich., Albert Salerno, of Bridgeport, Tony Salerno Jr., of Shinnston, and William Salerno, of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Jennie Snider, of Hutchinson, and Pauline Costa, of Fairmont; and his special friend and caregiver, Bubba Matheny.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Patsy Salerno; and four sisters, Rosie Carr, Teresa Butcher, Antionette Ruggerio and Mary Therrien.

Eleanor S. Henry
Eleanor S. Henry, 94, of College Avenue, Morgantown, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Sundale Nursing Home.
She was born April 7, 1906, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Charles R. and Nellie Keffer Selby.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown. She was also a homemaker and had been employed as secretary in the Agriculture/Biochemistry and Statistics Department at West Virginia University.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Donald A. and Carolyn Henry, of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Mary Jane Riskey, of Morgantown; three nieces, Jo Ann Yedlosky, Ethel Jane Clark, both of Morgantown and Nancy Sue Foreback, of Decatur, Ga.; a granddaughter and spouse, Donna and Tony Tant, of Raleigh, N.C.; a grandson, James Henry, of Wilmington, and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon Tant, both of Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund K. Selby.

Pauline K. Richardson, 83, of Ferndale, Mich., formerly of Royal Oak, Mich., died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at her home.
She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in West Virginia.
She was a member of the Lancerettes of the Shriners of Detroit.
She is survived by four children and three spouses, Paul "Mike" and Ruth Richardson, of Ortonville, Mich., Richard Richardson, of Florida, Neomia and Paul Phillips, of Rochester, Mich., and Becky and Joe Helzer Bartels, of Ferndale; a sister, Elaine Falkenstine, of West Virginia; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Richardson; two sisters and seven brothers.

Anna Marie Nicholas, 91, of Santa Monica, Calif., formerly of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
She as born Dec. 13, 1908, in Elverton, daughter of the late Charles Knox and Elizabeth Tomes Galik Knox.
She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in Santa Monica, Calif.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Joseph and Lynn Nicholas, of Morgantown; three daughters, Patricia A. Nicholas, of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Jeffrey (Kathleen) Traub, of Springfield, Ohio, and Georgiana Nicholas, of Los Angeles; a sister, Tatiana Galik, of Westover; a stepsister, Katherine Gabbert, of Hesperia, Calif.; two brothers and spouses, Charles and Mary Galik, of San Diego, and George and Miriam Galik, of Hialeah, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George A. Nicholas, in 1969; an infant son in 1935; stepfather, Alex Knox; stepbrother, Paul Knox; brother-in-law, Bruce Habbert Jr. and a nephew, Craig Nelson.

Barbara J. Jackson Jones
Barbara Jean Jackson Jones, 64, of Silver Spring, Md., died July 28, 2000, from complications due to emphysema, at Genesis Woodside nursing home in Silver Spring.
She was born in Star City, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Jackson and Mamie Lee Williams Jackson.
She attended Monongalia High School in Morgantown, West Virginia State College, West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh. She was employed by the Star City Glass Factory, WVU Hospital, Curber Associates, Al Nellum and Associates, as well as the U.S. Postal Service. She was a former daughter ruler of IBPOE of W, Elks Lodge 733 in Osage. She was an avid supporter of health care for the poor and a participant in the civil rights movement. She performed the function of area organizer for th e 1963 March on Washington and the 1968 Poor People's March (Resurrection City). Her social service career began as an aide in the Scott's Run Settlement House in Osage. She is also a past president of the Committee for the Benefit of Children. She also was director of the Health Education Advisory Team in Fairmont, acting director of Neighborhoods Together, in Takoma Park, Md., and an associate of the Black Appalachian Advisory Team, in Atlanta. She co-authored "Black Elderly in Appalachia: Forgotten P eople, Forgotten Issue, Forgotten Principles." She ended her career as a resident manager of an apartment building in Takoma Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Mamie Blair Diggs, and Aremita Rudy Watson, both of Silver Spring; a son, Alfred Cathy Jones Jr., of Euless, Texas; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Rookard, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Daisy Jones, of Smithfield, Pa., Hazel Marshall, of Manteca, Calif., Gertrude Alexander, of Rockville, Md.; two brothers, Roosevelt Jackson, of Huber Heights, Ohio, and William Prude, of Pittsburgh.
She is also preceded in death by seven brothers, James Jackson, Peter Jackson, William Jackson, John Jackson, Robert Jackson, William "Snooks" Jackson and Eugene Spenser; and four sisters, Louella Perkins, Jane Lee Woodberry, Bernice Henderson and Beverly Ann Dangerfield.

Russell L. Long
Word has been received of the death of Russell L. Long, 75, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Greensboro, Pa., on July 18, 2000.
He was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Idamay, son of the late Hobert and Drusilla Ash Long.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and then in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, retiring with 20 years of service.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Dom, of Maryland; two brothers, Richard Long, of Warren, Ohio, and Ray Long, of Streetsboro, Ohio; three sisters, Doris Ramsey, of Jacobsburg, Ohio, Mrs. Leonard (Louise) DeVault, of Dillinger, Pa., and Elma Efaw, of Levittown, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Robert Long, and two sisters, Mary Nicholas and Lenora Halio.
At his request he was cremated in Florida.
James 'Jim' Ray Wolfe
James "Jim" Ray Wolfe, 60, of 208 W. Washington St., Grafton, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 21, 1940, in Newburg, son of the late Russell Ray Wolfe and Bessie Mae Powell Wolfe.
Wolfe was retired from the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081. He was Methodist.
He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Roxanne and Virgil Tacy, of Buckhannon; a son and spouse, Michael Lee and Jennifer Wolfe, of Harpers Ferry; a grandson, Cody Tacy; a granddaughter, Leah Wolfe; and two sisters and spouse, Annabelle Shroyer, of Clearwater, Fla., and Nellie and Jerry Cagle, of Atlanta.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Patton, Camden Wolfe and David Wolfe.

Lenore W. Spencer, 85, of Springfield, Va., formerly of Willey Street in Morgantown, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
She was born May 21, 1915, in Grantsville, Calhoun County, daughter of the late Frank and Mae Stalnaker White.
She was a homemaker, and had also been employed with West Virginia University in the budget department for several years.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Judy and Bobby Rae Melton, of Springfield, Va.; a son, Jeff Spencer, of Waynesburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Jessica Lenore Spencer and Marissa Ann Spencer, and a grandson, Justin Woodburn Spencer, all of Waynesburg, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Orville White; and a sister, Tressa Mae Shriver.

Joyce Arlene Justus, 41, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant.
She was born June 9, 1959, in Grafton, daughter of Ronald L. Waybright and the late Mildred Adams Waybright.
She was a homemaker and Pentecostal.
She is also survived by a brother and spouse, David K. and Kelly Waybright, of Kingwood; a sister, Karen S. Waybright, of Bruceton; her stepmother, Sue Waybright, of Bruceton; and five nephews, Osten, Cody, David, Steven and Matthew Waybright.

Eleanor S. Henry, 94, of College Avenue, Morgantown, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Sundale Nursing Home.

Rev. Charles J. Summers
The Rev. Charles J. Summers, 75, of 313 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center West.
He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Tallulah, La., son of the late Sam and Luanne Webb Summers.
He was pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Morgantown, at the time of his death. He retired from J&L Steel, Aliquippa, Pa., and was a former employee of Monaca City Police Department. He was a member of the West Virginia A.M.E. Annual Conference and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Curenton Summers; a son, Jerry Summers, of Houston; a brother, Rashad Shakeed, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; three stepsons, Louis Curenton, of Steubenville, Myron Kenneth, of Miami, and Melvin Webb, of Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Webb, of Aliquippa, Fla., and Tamara Murray, of Miami; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 61 Beechurst Ave., Morgantown, from 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, until the 1 p.m. service with the Rev. Alfred Casson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Steubenville. Gregory Funeral Home, Weirton, is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Ann Miller
Barbara Ann Phillips Miller, 72, of East Grafton Road, Fairmont, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Fairmont, daughter of the late George A. and Helen Elizabeth Fleming Phillips.
She was a homemaker and mother. She was retired from Owens Illinois glass plant and had most recently worked at Rider Pharmacy in Fairmont. She was a member of the Baptist Temple and the Vincent Moore Circle of the Church. She was also a member of the East Evergreen Garden Club and the Hickman Run Homemakers. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and was a member of the East Fairmont High School Reunion Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth E. Miller Sr., whom she married Aug. 18, 1946; three sons and spouses, Kenneth E. Jr. and Michele Miller, of Columbia, Ohio, and Ronald L. and Charlotte Miller, and William Allen Miller, all of Fairmont; two daughters and a spouse, Deborah Ann Walker, and Helen "Jeanie" and Robert Lough, all of Fairmont; her stepmother, Ruth Phillips, of Fairmont; a brother and spouse, Albert and Almeda Phillips, of Lancaster, Ohio; a half-brother and spouse, Paul and Joyce Phillips, of Fairmont; two sisters and spouses, Thelma and James Phillips, of Fairmont, and Lucille and Leburn Myers, of Lakehurst, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Loraine Phillips, of Lancaster, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Susan Myers, Sonya Miller, Andrea Neilson, Sunny Estel, Lauren Miller, Brandon "B.J." Walker, Abbey Reeves and Robert "Bobby" Lough; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Phillips; a sister, Margaret Saloky; a granddaughter, Cindy Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Neilson.

Samuel J. Frisenda
Samuel J. Frisenda, 74, of Diamond Street, Fairmont, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Fairmont, son of the late Adolphues and Josephine Proto Frisenda.
He was co-owner and operator of Luke The Plumber. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member and past commander of VFW post 7048, a member of VFW post 629, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairmont.
He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Tina and Ronald Cosco, of Fairmont; two sons and a spouse, Samuel and Elainia Frisenda, and Luke Frisenda, all of Fairmont; two brothers, Louis Frisenda, of Fairmont, and Joseph Frisenda, of New York; six grandchildren, Devin, Telsa, and Beverly Frisenda, Jamie Frisenda, and Brianna and Ronnie Cosco.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Riggi Frisenda, on Nov. 7, 1989; four brothers, Ralph, James, Frank and Anthony Frisenda; and two sisters, Julia Leonetta and Ann Frisenda.

Howard O. 'Abe' Martin
Howard O. "Abe" Martin, 92, of Mozart Road, Wheeling, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in Massillon (Ohio) Doctor's Hospital.
He was born Feb. 22, 1908, in Morgantown, son of the late Joseph W. and Anna McClure Martin.
He was a former principal of McKinley Vocational High School and Warwood High School.
He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in education in 1931. At WVU he belonged to Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa honorary. He was president of the WVU Alumni Ohio County Chapter in 1965, and in 1999 received the David W. Jacobs Award from WVU lifelong alumni service. He held a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
During World War II, he was an executive officer of the U.S. Army 155th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was discharged with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Active in civic affairs, he was past president of the Wheeling Rotary Club and had perfect attendance for 28 years. He was a member and past president of Ohio County retired school employees; treasurer of Friends of West Virginia Northern Community College, Wheeling Campus; and a member of Wheeling Country Club.
He was past president of AARP Chapter 824, West Virginia Secondary Principal's Association, and the Fort Henry Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association.
He was a member of Fourth Street United Methodist Church, where he was past chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served on the advisory boards of WATCH, Salvation Army, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of West Virginia. He was a world traveler.
He is survived by a son, H.G. "Gary" Martin Jr., of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; a daughter and spouse, Mrs. James (Katharine "Kitty") Bordner, of Massillon, Ohio; a brother, Dr. Hubert E. Martin, of Morgantown; two grandsons, Dr. Cole Bordner, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Eric Martin, of Dunwoody, Ga.; three granddaughters, Kristin Bordner Wilson, of Massillon, Keira Martin Murphy, of Aiken, S.C., and Carly Martin, of Whitefish Bay; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Osborne Martin, in 1980, and two sisters, Leota Sanders and Grace Taylor.

Pauline Lucille Calhoun, 79, of Terra Alta, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 in Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.
