Mary L. Sawchenko
Mary Liberatore Sawchenko, 69, of Gaithersburg, Md., formerly of Morgantown, died of cancer Jan. 8, 2000, at home.
She received both her bachelor's in English and her master's in French from West Virginia University. She completed graduate work in linguistics at Georgetown University and received a second master's degree in guidance and counseling from George Washing ton University. She taught in the Montgomery County public school system for 30 years. During those years she taught English, French and Spanish, was an adviser for foreign students and the American Field Service and hosted foreign exchange students from Italy and Spain. She served on the faculties of Belt Junior High, Albert Einstein High, Parkland Junior H igh and Wood Junior High before joining the faculty of Point Branch High School in Burtonsville, Md., in 1976. She retired in 1990. Upon retirement from teaching, she served as the director of the Touchstone Gallery until 1994, where her husband was a me mber for 13 years. She was a patron of the arts and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. She was a volunteer teacher at the Spanish Catholic Center in Gaithersburg where she taught English to Spanish-speaking immigrants. She was also a volunteer work er at the Lords Table Kitchen at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Gaithersburg.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Sawchenko Jr.; a son, Charles, III, of Middletown, Del.; two daughters, Francesca, of Baltimore, and Stephanie, of San Fransisco; two brothers, Edward and Eugene Liberatore; and a sister, Fern Andreassi.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, 201 S. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg. Donations: Spanish Catholic Center, 117 N. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
Alan F. Snow
Alan F. Snow, 62, of Grafton, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, son of the late Edwin Foster and Helen Marie (Gordon) Snow.
He was an inspector for the Hobart Refrigerator Manufacturing Corp. in Kansas City. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Blueville Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta (Gough) Snow, whom he married Oct. 31, 1965; two sons and spouses, Kevin Alan and Rachel Snow, of Peoria, Ill., and Chad Edwin and Noriko Snow, of Dayton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Abigail and Sophia Snow, both of Peor ia; and a brother and spouse, Robert and Judy Snow, of Surprise, Ark.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 until the 1 p.m. service at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, Grafton, with Pastor Louis Staubs officiating. Emitte M. Bolyard
Emitte M. Bolyard, 82, of Hazelton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at home.
He was born July 13, 1918, in Preston County, son of the late Claude and Mae Bolyard.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the tank corps during World War II. He was a pipefitter and a member of the West Virginia Plumbers and Steamfitters.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Goodwin, of Fairmont; a sister, Rudalle Stansbury, of Jacobus, Pa.; five grandchildren, Michael Trickett, Kimberly Trickett, David Goodwin, Scott Goodwin and Ashley Goodwin; and a great-grandson, Christopher Bolyard Goodwin.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Teets Bolyard; a second wife, Wilma Knotts Bolyard; a daughter, Martha Trippett; two brothers, Carroll Bolyard and Lawrence Bolyard; and a sister, Pearl Knotts.

Victor Pisegna
Word has been received of the death of Victor "Whitey" Pisegna, 82, of Manassas, Va., on Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas.
He was retired from teaching after 40 years in the Manassas area. He was a football coach for Osbourn High School. He enjoyed golf and working at the Fairfax National Golf Course. He was a member of the Manassas Host Lions Club since 1951. He was station ed in Alaska during World War II, serving in the 201st infantry.
He is survived by a son, Michael Pisegna, of Manassas; a daughter and spouse, Melissa and Kevin Morin, of West Hartford, Conn.; three grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell and Tessa Morin; and a niece, Eva DeVincent Walker, of Morgantown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Pisegna; his parents Genaro and Filomena Colletto Pisegna; three brothers; and two sisters.
Burial was in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va.
Edna Mae Shively
Edna Mae Shively, 86, of Bellview Avenue, Fairmont, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born April 16, 1914 in Fairview, daughter of the late Joseph and Emma McCoy Caton.
She had retired as a dental assistant to Dr. Jack Hayhurst and Dr. M.E. Brown. She was also a former employee of Hartley's and Jones Department Stores in Fairmont. She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church and the Fairmont Moose. Sh e enjoyed attending the Senior Center at Bellview. A dog lover, she supported the Marion County Animal Shelter and other organizations to protect animals.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
She is survived by several cousins and a very good friend, Wayne Shively.

Deloris N. Bolyard
Deloris N. Bolyard, 67, of Thornton, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the home of her son, Randall W. Bolyard, of Grafton.
She was born May 26, 1933, in York Run Community, daughter of the late Arthur E. and Lelia M. Larew Bolyard.
She was a 1951 graduate of Newburg High School. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Sandy Creek CEOS and Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Marquess, where she played the piano for several years.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Leland A. Bolyard; a son and spouse, Randall W. and Samantha Bolyard, of Grafton; a daughter and spouse, Wanda V. and Jeffrey W. Sypolt, of Jane Lew; four grandchildren, Joshua W. Bolyard, Phillip M. Bolyard, V anessa B. Sypolt and Brittany D. Sypolt; two stepgrandchildren, Amanda Nuzum and Stephanie Slaton; two sisters-in-laws and a spouse, Charlotte and Willard Bolyard, of Thornton, and Norma Clarkson, of Newburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Kay Bolyard.

Robert L. Pennington, 65, of Pentress, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1935, in Trenton, Pa., son of the late Byrns and Stella McCune Pennington.
He was employed at Dunkard Valley Repair.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia Hufford Pennington; a son, Shaun Pennington, of Pentress; a stepson and spouse, Edward and Laurie Conrad II, of Canton, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Tania McCrobie, of Massillon, Ohio; two brothers, Grove "Buck" Pennington, of Morgantown, and Doug Pennington, of Pentress; four sisters, Charlotte Sweitzer, of Route 1 in Core, Grace Yost, of Nile, Ohio, Shirley Cole, of Wadestown, and Jackie Willard, of Pentress; and six stepgrandchildren.

Word has been received of the death of Harland Spencer "Hal" Hartman, 92, at home, 212 South Edgewood, Statesboro, Ga., on Oct. 7, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary T. Loss Hartman; two grandchildren, Sally Schmidle Hare and Joseph Schmidle IV, both of Kingwood; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Thompson, Cassidy Schmidle, and Olivia and J.T. Hare; two nieces, Marcelle Ward Far rington, of Eastham, Mass., and Marilyn Snyder, of Kingwood; eight stepchildren and several stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Schmidle; a wife, Dolly Bennett Hartman; a sister, Ruby B. Ward; and a brother, Donald K. Hartman.

John Adams Jr.
John "Ace" Adams Jr., 48, of Whitehall, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1952, in Fairmont, son of John W. Adams Sr. and Pauline Stibler Adams, of Whitehall.
He was employed at K&P Machine in Grafton, where he worked as a salesman and driver. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1970.
He is also survived by his wife, Beth (Rise) Adams; a daughter, Mandy Adams; and a son, Andrew Adams, all at home; a brother, Thomas Adams, of Nutter Fort; two sister and spouses, Linda and Joe Yerace, and Debbie and David Merrill, all of Fairmont; a gra ndmother, Goldie Stibler, of Fairmont; and four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Frank Stibler; and grandparents, Mary Sopanos and Thomas Adams.

Janet M. Stenger Klackle
Janet Morgan Stenger Klackle, 53, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Morgantown, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at home following a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Edward Leo and Helen Holmes-Morgan Stenger.
She attended schools in Owosso, Mich., graduating from Owosso High School in 1965. She was an executive secretary at Lockheed Sanders, Nashua, N.H., for many years. She had been employed previously with American Airlines as a flight attendant and ticket agent. She had been employed for the past three years with Kroger in Woodstock as a front line cashier.
She was a member of St. Kathryn's Catholic Church in Hudson.
She is survived by a daughter, Holly June Klackle, of Woodstock; a son and spouse, Brad M. and Tammy Klackle, of Nashua; a sister and spouse, Sandra S. and Angelo DeCicco, of Amherst, N.H.; two brothers and spouse, Edward H. Stenger, of Lakewood, Ohio, a nd David N. and Isa Stenger, of Morgantown; and three grandchildren, Miranda, Morgan and Jordan Klackle, all of Nashua.

She was born Nov. 18, 1950, in Erwin, daughter of Mary E. Donovan Sanders, of the Erwin community, and the late Jacob J. Sanders.
She was administrator of the Wexford Health Services in State College, Pa., and was a member of the New Life Assembly of God in Altoona, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Rossetti, of Morgantown; a son and spouse, Michael L. II and Lori A. Teets, of Morgantown; a daughter, Crystal D. Teets, of Kingwood; three stepsons and spouses, Timothy M. II and Shannon Rossetti, of Reedsville, Chris topher S. and Paula Rossetti, of Morgantown, and Jeffrey L. She was employed at Kyowa America Corp. in Waynesburg.
She is survived by her fiance, Isadore Virgili III, of Waynesburg; a son, Dennis G. "Denny" Lambert; two brothers, Lonnie W. Barr, of East Liverpool, Ohio, and John E. Barr, of Wadestown; a sister, Bonnie A. Barr, of Waynesburg; and a grandchild, Felicia Lambert.

Eugene F. 'Gene' Roller
Eugene F. "Gene" Roller, 90, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at LaFayette Manor, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born June 6, 1910, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Eugene and Louise Benz Roller.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He first worked for Francis Emory Fitch Printing in New York. From 1958 until his retirement in 1974, he worked for National Railway Printing in New York. He lived in Carmichaels, Pa. since 1976.
He was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post No. 400, of Carmichaels, Pa.; the American Association of Retired Persons; the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare; and the Typographical Union Local No. 6. He enjoyed photography , bird watching, hunting and fishing. He was Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, Helen C. Lewandowsky Roller, whom he married Oct. 17, 1942; a daughter and spouse, Mary Frances and Andrew Bystry, of Carmichaels, Pa.; three grandchildren, Andrew Bystry Jr., David Bystry and Patricia A. Plummer; eight great- grandchildren,; a sister, Louise Warner, of Norcross, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Grace.

Marie Scott Long
Marie Scott Long, 84, of Fairmont, Bunner Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1916, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Howard Clay and Nora Virginia Holsberry Long.
She was a teacher for 35 years. She retired as principal of Quiet Dell School in Marion County. She also taught at Mount Clair and Meadowdale schools. She was a graduate of Parsons High School and attended Davis and Elkins College. She received a degree from Fairmont State College. She was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church on Bunner Ridge. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers and Marion County Retired Teachers' Association. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Camilla and Paul Kettle, of Ijamsville, Md.; a sister, Mabel Gatrell, of Pikerton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Scott, on Nov. 1, 1979; and a brother, Ray Long.

He was born July 11, 1913, in Eglon, son of the late John Wesley and Clara V. Roth Harsh.
He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Sell Harsh; a son and spouse, Earl Calvin and Barbara Harsh, of Martinsburg; a daughter and spouse, Mary Lou and the Rev. Michael Cogley, of Moundsville; four grandchildren, Joel and Bethany Cogley, Vickie McDonald and Sherry Allen; a great-grandson, Ray McDonald Jr.

Mona B. Lydick, 89, of Vienna, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.
She was born in Morgantown, daughter of the late William and Grace Hobaugh Chipps.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church and the Vienna Order of Eastern Stars Chapter 151.
She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Barbara Ann and Dick Rittenhouse, of Parkersburg and Janet Sue and David Rogers, of Belleville; a sister, Hazel Pyecha, of Morgantown; six grandchildren and spouse, Jay, David and Steven Rittenhouse, Nancy, Werry and Dan Rogers and Rebecca Dornsife; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Lydick; two brothers, William and Dale Chipps; and a sister, Gladys Chipps.

Edward 'Lou' Suchoski Sr.
Edward "Lou" Suchoski Sr., 80, of Rockford, Ill., and formerly of Osage, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, in Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Grandville, Pa., son of the late William and Bertha Suchocki.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and was dedicated to his son, Edward Suchoski Jr. He wrote to him every day that his son served in the Vietnam War. He was also a member of United M ine Workers, United Auto Workers Local 803, Polish Falcons, White Eagles and LLL. He was an avid baseball fan.
He is suvived by his wife, Christene Suchoski, whom he married Aug. 16, 1946; a son and spouse, Edward and Cathy Suchoski, of Rockton; two daughters and spouses, Joyce and Quentin Mueller, of Portland, Ore., and Linda Hamm, of Grant, Fla.; seven grandchi ldren, Nicholas, Edward, Michele Marie, Tania Elizabeth and Victoria Kristine Suchoski, Chris A., Wyatt Christopher and Clare Anna Mueller.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Suchoski.

Arnold T. Wilson
Arnold T. Wilson, 81, of Greensboro, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa.
He was born March 13, 1919, in Dunbar, Pa., son of the late Walter L. and Alverda Marie Jeffries Wilson.
He worked with the U.S. Corp of Army Engineers at the Morgantown Lock and Dam, and later at Lock 5 at Brownsville. He retired from Lock 7 at Greensboro after 30 years of service. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was a prisone r of war in Germany for six months. He was a member of the New Hope Free Methodist Church of Greensboro, Pa., the Greensboro-Monongahela Township Volunteer Fire Department and VFW Post 6303 of Greensboro.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Lois, of Dilliner, Pa., and Charlene Brozik, of Morgantown; two stepsons, Arthur Hugh Lint, of Smithfield, Pa., and Robert L. Lint, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Alene Davis, of Wichita, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lillian Bryner, of Dunbar, Thelma Nevedale, of Oregon, and Anna Marie Wagner, of Orlando, Fla.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta F. Eberhart Wilson, who died March 15, 1970; his second wife, Bertha Alif Fox Wilson, whom he married on Oct. 21, 1970, died Aug. 22, 2000; four brothers, George, Roland, Elmer and Robert Wilson; a nd an infant sister.

John Edward Thomas, 18, of Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001.
He was born Jan. 31, 1982, in Waynesburg, Pa., son of John Thomas, of Pennsylvania, and Mary Balsack, of Morgantown.
He attended Morgantown High School and was employed with Giant Eagle. He loved animals.
He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Christine Delattre, of Brisbin, Pa.

Eleanor Bissett Gargett
Word has been received of the death of Eleanor Bissett Gargett, 84, of Fairbon, Ohio, on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1916, in the Jordan-Scottdale community, Marion County, daughter of the late Clarence and Anna Hazel Malone Bissett.
She was a graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and was a former teacher in the Fairborn public school system. She was an avid reader and student of history, literature and geneaology. She had a lifelong love of learning and continued to a ttend classes at her alma mater through her 60s. She was a member of the Greene County (Ohio) Democratic Party and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is survived by a son, Robert A. Gargett, of Fairborn; a daughter, Ann G. Downe, of New Orleans; a grandson, Matthew Dalhover, of Florida; a great-grandson, Trystan Perry Dalhover; four sisters, Maxine Humphrey, of New Martinsville, Betty Tinder, of F airmont, Helen Deriggi, of Fairmont, and Doris Moore, of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. "Whitey" Gargett, in 1959; and two brothers, Milton Bissett and Alton Bissett.
Following services last week in Ohio, she was buried in Byron Cemetery, Fairborn.

Dale W. Laulis, 62, of Spring Hill Development, Grafton, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Raymond E. Stewart
Raymond E. "Jake" Stewart, 83, of Pentress, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Pentress, son of the late John and Jessie Dean Stewart.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was retired from the state Department of Highways and owned and operated Stewarts Trailer Court in Pentress. He was a member of Olive United Methodist Church and Waynesburg Elks Lodge 757 and a charter member of the C lay-Battelle Lions Club 29L.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Moats Stewart; a son, John Stewart, of Pentress; two sisters, Ruth Conn and Catherine Dayton, both of Pentress; four grandchildren, Traci Poffenberger, John Dean Stewart Jr, Jessica Dollie Stewart and Teddy Ray Stewart; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Alexandra Poffenberger and Amanda Faith Stewart.
Friends may call at Olive United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, until the 1 p.m. service, with the Rev. David Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Cemetery, with Mount Morris American Legion Post 992 conducting graveside mil itary services. Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville will be in charge of arrangements.
Jean Martin Garner
Jean Martin Garner, 89, of Fairmont, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Cumberland, Md., daughter of the late John R. and Beatrice Brown Martin.
She grew up in Kingwood and was a 1929 graduate of Kingwood High School. In the fall of 1929, she entered nurse's training at Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia. After graduating as a registered nurse, she was employed at Emergency Hospital, i * Washington, D.C. In July 1938, she married George W. Garner, a lifetime resident of Kingwood, before moving to Washington, D.C. She then became a nurse for the federal government and served in many departments until retiring in 1955. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and during her years living in the Washington area, spent many years as a volunteer docent of the DAR Constitutional Hall. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Hagens-Evan DAR Chapte r in Morgantown. She was also a member of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by a brother and spouse, John and Ruth Z. Martin, of Fairmont; a sister and spouse, Elinor M. and George J. Shean, of Morgantown; a sister-in-law, Valda G. Martin, of Orlando, Fla.; a nephew and spouse, John F. and Leta Martin, of Orlando ; three nieces and spouses, Allison Farquer, of California, Nan S. and Thomas E. Shaffer, and Jan Lopreste, all of Morgantown; three great-nephews and a spouse, Frederick John and Wendy Martin, of Atlanta, Sean Jakeway, and Nicholas Lopreste, both of Mor gantown; and two great-nieces and a spouse, Jane F. and Andrew Hoag, of Atlanta, and Ashleigh Jakeway, of Morgantown.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George W. Garner, in 1990; and a brother, Frederick Fairfax Martin.
Friends may call at James G. Lobb Funeral Home in Kingwood from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Sunday. Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 15, with the Rev. John M. Zucrcher officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
Marie Long Scott
Marie Long Scott , 84, of Fairmont, Bunner Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1916, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Howard Clay and Nora Virginia Holsberry Long.
She was a teacher for 35 years. She retired as principal of Quiet Dell School in Marion County. She also taught at Mount Clair and Meadowdale schools. She was a graduate of Parsons High School and attended Davis and Elkins College. She received a degree from Fairmont State College. She was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church on Bunner Ridge. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers and Marion County Retired Teachers' Association. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Camilla and Paul Kettle, of Ijamsville, Md.; a sister, Mabel Gatrell, of Pikerton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Scott, on Nov. 1, 1979; and a brother, Ray Long.
