Mildred F. Wilson, 76, of Tunnelton, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at home. She was born Sept. 2, 1924, in Preston County, daughter of the late Charles R. and Nellie A. Plum Sigley. She was a homemaker and Methodist. She is survived by three sons and spouses, Donald R. and Joyce Wilson, of Terra Alta, Billy L. Wilson and Frances Miller, of Akron, Ohio, and Thomas J. and Mary Wilson, of Tunnelton; three daughters and spouses, Betty and Robert Hershman, of Tunnelton, J udy Richard Savage, of Albright, and Nellie and George Pase, of Tunnelton; a brother, Ray Sigley, of Bruceton; three sisters, Ruby Ricks, of Terra Alta, Ronellda Funk, of Tunnelton, and Eleanor Reams, of Morgantown; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandch ildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wilson; two brothers, Harold Sigley and Reed Sigley; a sister, Viola Hebb; and two grandsons, Georgie Pase and Joshua Wilson. George Stephen Harsh
George Stephen Harsh, 87, of Kingwood, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Heartland of Preston County. He was born July 11, 1913, in Eglon, son of the late John Wesley and Clara V. Roth Harsh. He was a farmer and timberman. He retired from Morgan's Foodland in Kingwood. He attended the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Sell Harsh; a son and spouse, Earl Calvin and Barbara Harsh, of Martinsburg; a daughter and spouse, Mary Lou and the Rev. Michael Cogley, of Moundsville; four grandchildren, Joel and Bethany Cogley, Vickie McDonald and Sherry Allen; and a great-grandson, Ray McDonald Jr. He was also preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Service will be at Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 with the Revs. Michael Cogley and Anthony Judy officiating. Burial will follow in Accident Cemetery, Accident, W.Va. (between Eglon and Horseshoe Run).

Mabel A. Thomason
Mabel A. Thomason, 90, of Morgantown, formerly of Morgan Run Road, Over Cheat, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2001, at home. She was born April 24, 1910, in Morgantown, daughter of the late John R. and Julia Wolfe Rude. She was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church and was a former employee with Morgantown Glass Factory for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Kay Audia, of Morgantown; two sisters and a spouse, Mary V. and Opal Fowler, and Anna Nabors, all of Morgantown; a brother and spouse, Charles and Gay Rude, of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Louis J. Audia Jr., and Thomas K. and Claudia R. Audia, all of Morgantown; and a friend and his sons, Micky Tinker, and David and Michael Tinker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Odell Thomason; a daughter, Phyllis Nabors; a brother, George John Rude; and a sister, Elvra Ridgeway. Thomas Owens
Thomas Owens, 77, of Knottsville community, Grafton, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at home. He was born July 6, 1923, in Grafton, son of the late Thomas W. and Bessie Ludwick Owens. He was a retired truck driver with the St. Regis Paper Co. in Grafton with more than 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II as a Tec. 5 tank commander in the European Theater. He was Protestant and a member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 of Grafton. He is survived by his former wife, Mary Jean Tucker Owens, of Florida; three daughters and two spouses, Beverly Owens, of Woodlawn, Va., Barbara and Larry Becker, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Michelle and Bud Rispoli, of Holly Hill, Fla.; two brothers, C.F. Johns, of Grafton, and Lee Johns, of Virginia; his companion, Janet Bolyard, of Thornton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Donald G. Dale W. Laulis
Dale W. Laulis, 62, of Spring Hill Development, Grafton, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born June 20, 1938, in Clemtown, son of the late John T. and Cordie G. Moss Laulis. He was retired as a ramp serviceman from Eastern Airlines Co. in Baltimore with 32 years of service. He was Protestant and a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge 15 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Keller Laulis, whom he married Aug. 22, 1957; two sons and spouses, Dennis Mark and Mary Laulis, of Sykesville, Md., and John D. and Julie Laulis, of Phoenix; four grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Lindsey and Cole Laul is; and two brothers and spouses, Ward W. and Betty Laulis, and Darl R. and Frances Laulis, all of Grafton. John Alvin Field
John Alvin Field, 86, of Tyrone Road, Morgantown, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Morgantown, son of the late Guy M. and Eva Utt Field. He was a retired mechanic from General Paving Co. and was Nazarene. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, June Hiner Field; two daughters and spouses, Patricia and Thomas George, of Martinsville, Va., and Sara Kathryn and Bill S. Hanshew, of Charleston; a son and spouse, Marvin and Patti Field, of Dellslow; six grandch ildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lucille Stemple. Mary E. Howett
Mary E. Howett, 88, of Westover, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at her daughter's home in Ohio. She was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Westover, daughter of the late Walter C. and Catherine Davis McKinney. She was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church and was employed by Morgantown Glassware Guild. She is survived by her husband, Delbert Franklin Howett, whom she married April 28, 1944; a daughter and spouse, Delfred and Debra Brown, of Marshallville, Ohio; two grandsons and a spouse, Mark Kerns, of Fairmont, and Jeff and Deanna Kerns, of Wooster, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Morton, of Westover; and a brother, Walter E. McKinney, of Sunset Beach Road. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Goldie Perrault, Mildred Shaffer and Anna McKinney; and five brothers, Harry, George, John, Roy and Paul McKinney. Donald Frazee
Donald Frazee, 69, of Fort Ashby, formerly of Terra Alta, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Terra Alta, son of the late Walter and Marie Osborne Frazee. He graduated from Terra Alta High School in 1949 and served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1969, with assignments including Korea, Vietnam, Iceland, Panama, Italy. He was a submariner aboard the USS Queenfish and the USS Von Steuben. He ser ved on the battleship USS Missouri. He retired from the Navy in 1969 as chief petty officer. He later worked for Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. as an Operator-B at the Terra Alta Compressor Station. He retired from Columbia with 19 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Elaine E. Sypolt Frazee, whom he married March 8, 1973; a daughter and spouse, Amanda Marie Frazee and Chad Benson, of Fort Ashby; three sisters, June Fike, of Millersville, Pa., Norma Jean Hull, of Shrewsbury, Pa., and Jo Ann Smith, of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Keith Elsworth Frazee, James Blaine Frazee, Richard H. Frazee, Walter W. Frazee, Robert J. Roy Wise
Roy Wise, 80, of Littleton, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at home. He was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Wadestown, son of the late Jasper E. Wise and Mary Alice Pethtel Wise. He was a retired construction worker, having retired with 35 years of service with Forest Construction Co. He was a member of UMW Local 1687. He was Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Reba Smith Wise; a son, Richard L. Wise, of Burton; three daughters, Sharon Dishman, Karen S. Mackey and Pamela J. Burley, all of Cameron; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Clyde Clifford Moats Sr.
Clyde Clifford Moats Sr., 61, of Tunnelton, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Erwin, son of the late Summers Wesley and Rettie May Moats. He was retired from the town of Terra Alta, where he did maintenance work. He is survived by two sons, Clyde Moats Jr., of Erwin, and Wesley McCormick, of Morgantown; three daughters, Florence White, of Turner Douglas, Maryan Rhodeheaver, of Terra Alta, and Patty Sue McGinnis, of Oakland, Md.; and 12 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah Moats and April Dawm Moats; four brothers; and two sisters. James A. Newhouse
James A. Newhouse, 78, of Salem, Ohio, formerly of Fairmont, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio. He was born in Whiterock, son of the late Paris A. and Margaret Flohr Newhouse. He worked for 38 years at Fairmont Wall Plaster and Human Society in Whiterock, before retiring. He lived in Fairmont for 77 years. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Rose (Holland) Newhouse; a daughter and spouse, Kathern and Ralph West, of Salem, Ohio; three sisters, Mary DeMary, of Star City, Martha Nagy, of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Margaret Reynolds, of Fairmont; two grandchildr en; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Allen Leroy Abel
Allen Leroy Abel, 58, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Buckhannon, died Friday, Jan., 12, 2001, at Holmes Regional Center, Melbourne, Fla. He was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Ivy, son of Mary Pearl Reese Abel, of Buckhannon, and the late Albert L. Abel. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. and the Upshur County Board of Education. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 3 1/2 years. He attended South Brevard Community Church, in Melbourne, Fla. He is also also survived by his wife, Kathleen F. Hawkins Abel, whom he married May 29, 1970; a son and spouse, Walter Allen and Linda Abel, of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter and fiance, Danielle Lynne Abel and Lugard Cockerham, of Palm Bay, Fla.; three gran dchildren, Breanna Fae and Sean Michael Abel and Gabrielle Alliyah Cockerham; eight brothers, Larry E. Nancy Carol Johnson
Nancy Carol Johnson, 61, of Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at home. She was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Grant Town, daughter of the late Hobert Lee and Artie Mae Costello Dodd. She was a graduate of Fairview High School and Alexandria School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at the West Virginia University Hospital, Monongalia General Hospital and Sundale Nursing Home. She was Methodist. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jerome G. Johnson; a son and spouse, Dr. Mark L. and Lynn Johnson, of Morgantown; three daughters and spouses, Jenny and Mark McDaniel, of Tampa, Fla., and Cherise and Dr. Victor Starcher and Katrina and Jason Fleming, all of Morgantown; a brother, Richard Keith Dodd, of Grant Town; and two grandsons, Hayden Starcher and Evan Johnson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo Dodd, Billy Dodd and Jack Dodd, and two sisters, Doris Culhane and Joann Hunter. John Kyle Beckner
John Kyle Beckner, 82, of Kingwood, formerly of Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Clarksburg, son of the late Luther and Elizabeth Beckner. He was retired from GE Plastics in Morgantown. He was a member of Love Chapel Church in Kingwood. He served as a gunner's mate with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by six sons and four spouses, John and Rhonda Beckner, Bill and Sandy Beckner and Robert Beckner and David Beckner, all of Morgantown, George and Gloria Beckner and Ronald and Sue Beckner, all of Booth; a daughter and spouse, Linda and Ken ny Hardy, of Independence; a son-in-law, Marcus McDonald, of Kingwood; a daughter-in-law, Tina Beckner, of Maidsville; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Iva Elizabeth Roderick Beckner; a daughter, Shirley Ann McDonald; two sons, Harry Lee Beckner and Roger Allen Beckner; a brother, Carl Beckner; three sisters, Ada Molisee, Mary Whitehair and Vennie Luzander; and a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Hardy. Emilie M. Geary
Emilie M. Geary, 85, of Albright, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at home. She was born July 13, 1915, in Albright, daughter of the late Augustine M. and Blanche Martin Montabone. She was a bank clerk at the First National Bank in Upper Marlboro, Md., and a member of the Preston County Historical Society. She was Protestant. She is survived by a son and friend, Monte Geary, of Albright, and Connie DeWitt, of Kingwood; a granddaughter, Melissia Geary, of Upper Marlboro; a niece, Allison Farquer, of Oakland, Calif; two cousins, E.D. Grande, of Kingwood, and Silla Moriondo, of Torino, Italy; and her pet dog, Candy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Geary; and two sisters, Geraldine Garner Propes and Marietta Laraway. Cremation service was provided by Browning Funeral Home, in Kingwood.

Steve Powroznik
Steve Powroznik, 78, of Reedsville, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Reedsville, son of the late Joseph and Mary Powroznik. During World War II, he served the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division in North Africa and Italy. He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Co.'s Federal No. 2 mine in 1987, with more than 40 years of service as a miner. He was a member of UMWA Local 1570, Mo rgantown, a life member of Masontown VFW Post 1589, Valley Sportsman Club and St. Zita Catholic Church, Masontown. He is survived by two sons, Dick Powroznik, of Masontown, and Stephen Powroznik, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Sharon DuPont, of Masontown; a sister, Frank Powroznik, of Reedsville; a sister, Mary Melchek, of Farmington, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Cha d Powroznik, Ann Marie Powroznik, Ashley Powroznik, Richie Powroznik and Heather DuPont, all of Masontown, and Nathan Powroznik, of Albuquerque, Chris Howell, of Georgia, and Heidi Moore, of Kingwood; and four great-grandchildren, Amber Moore and Jamie M oore, both of Kingwood, and Blaine Howell and Ryan Howell, both of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudora Reese Powroznik, on Jan. 7, 1998; a grandson, Michael Powroznik, on Dec. 8, 1997; five sisters, Anna Wodzenski, Josephine Gibson, Rosie Zuchowski and two in infancy; and eight brothers, John Powroznik, Vincent Powroznik, Martin Powroznik, Tony Powroznik, Joe Powroznik, Mike Powroznik and two in infancy. Rosetta V. Favro
Rosetta V. Favro, 61, of Kingwood, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Kingwood, daughter of Dorothy DeWitt Favro, of Kingwood, and the late Alex Favro. She was a homemaker and provided day-care services for several children, including her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Kingwood. She is also survived by two brothers, John A. Favro, and Ralph E. Favro, both of Kingwood; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow Favro and an infant; a sister, Madeline Sperandio; a niece and a nephew. Friends may call at James G. Burton W. Evans, 67, of Point Marion, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at home. He was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late William J. and Bessie J. Mayfield Evans. He was a retired truck driver, member of the Teamsters Union and a veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Tate Evans, of Point Marion; two daughters, Jacquelyn Cook, of Maricopa, Ariz., and Jodi Jones, of Point Marion; two sons, Gary Evans, of Dublin, Ohio, and William Evans, of Columbus; six grandchildren, Scott Evans, of Florida, Leah Brueggemann, Sheena Brueggemann and Regina Cook, all of Maricopa, Darin Jones, of Point Marion, and Courtney Evans, of Columbus. Bertha Ruble Franks
Bertha Ruble Franks, 94, of Gans, Pa., died Sunday Jan. 14, 2001, at the MonPointe Continuing Care Center. She was born Jan. 23, 1906, in Springhill Township, Pa., daughter of the late Frank C. and Dora Humbert Ruble. She was a resident of the MonPointe Continuing Care Center for the past six years. She graduated from California State Teacher's College and was an elementary schoolteacher for 40 years, having taught at Tobin and Gans Hill schools in Springhill Township . She retired from Smithfield Elementary. She was a member of the Redeemed Baptist Church near Point Marion, Pa., and was a former member of Springhill Furnace Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Gallatin Grange in Gans for many years, a nd was a member of the former Magdalena Rebekah Lodge in Point Marion. She is survived by a son and spouse, Ronald Douglas and Kathleen Franks, of Belair, Md.; a granddaughter and spouse, Leeza Michelle and Donald Grim, of Belair; two nieces, Karen Wilson, of Smithfield, Pa., and Joanne Wilson, of Lake Lynn, Pa.; and a neph ew, Douglas Blaney, of Osage. Joseph G. Nemeth
Joseph G. Nemeth, 88, of Price Street, Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born March 16, 1912, in Irvin, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Simon Nemeth. He was a member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Morgantown. He was a 1933 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. In 1938 he bought the City Pharmacy on Pleasant Street and moved to High Street in 1951 and owned and operate d the business until his retirement in 1974. In 1992, City Pharmacy celebrated 100 consecutive years of operation. He was a member of the WVU Alumni Emeritus Club. He became the first president of the WVU School of Pharmacy Alumni Association in 1941, and was a charter member. He was a member of the West Virginia Pharmaceutical Association and the American Pharmaceut ical Association. He was a lifetime member of the BPO Elks Club in Morgantown since 1935, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club Morgantown. He is survived by a daughter, Janet Jo McIntosh, of Morgantown; two grandsons and a spouse, Gary Alan and Holly Loring, and Joseph Charles Loring, all of Morgantown; and a sister, Margaret Draginsky, of Stamford, Conn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janet Rockis Nemeth, Aug. 28, 1980; two brothers, Lewis Nemeth and Frank F. Nemeth; and a sister, Elizabeth Bokis. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, until the 10:30 a.m. service with the Rev. Colombo Bandiera officiating. Toby Doppelt Ruben
Toby Doppelt Ruben, of Illinois, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Alvin; children and spouse, Ross "Candee" and Bonnie Ruben; grandchildren, Matthew, Sean and Jason Cosby and Tiffany and Ryan Ruben; and a sister and spouse, Rita and Stephen Tanner, of Morgantown. Service will be Wednesday in Illinois. Donations: WVU Foundation, in care of Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.

David R. Courtney
David R. Courtney, 60, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of St. Louis, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home in Jacksonville. He was born May 1, 1940, in Morgantown, son of Maxine Haught Courtney, of Westover, and the late John D. "Jack" Courtney. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the Defense Mapping Aeronautics and Aerospace Center in St. Louis. He is also survived by his wife, JoAnn Erisey Courtney; three daughters, Danielle Courtney, of Springfield, Mo., Christine McCormick, of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Loraine Courtney, of Affton, Mo.; a son, Bill Courtney, of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandchil dren, Stephen and Rachel; a brother, James William "Bill" Courtney, of Liverpool, N.Y., and a sister, Marianne, of Westover. There will be no visitation.

Clyde Clifford Moats Sr.
Clyde Clifford Moats Sr., 61, of Tunnelton, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital. He is survived by two sons, Clyde Moats Jr., of Erwin, and Wesley McCormick, of Morgantown; three daughters, Florence White, of Turner Douglas, Maryan Rhodeheaver, of Terra Alta, and Patty Sue McGinnis, of Oakland, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and his companio n, Betty Moats, of Tunnelton. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah Moats and April Dawm Moats; four brothers; and two sisters. Service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Browning Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, Rowlesburg, with the Rev. Elizabeth Baker officiating. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery.

Thelma Yvonne Blaney
Thelma Yvonne Blaney, 89, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Morgantown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001. She was born July 8, 1911, in Morgantown, daughter of the late David M. and Leola Robinson Thomas. She was a longtime member of the Sabra United Methodist Church, where she was involved with many church activities and was a former choir member. She had been employed with Morgan Shirt Factory for several years. She is survived by her husband, Cramer D. Blaney, of Columbia; a son, Martin C. Blaney, of Hopewell, Va.; a daughter, Brenda Blizard, of Columbia; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from noon Wednesday, Jan. 17, until the 1 p.m. service, with the Rev. Ann Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Lawnwood Cemetery.
