James Edward 'Ed' Norman
James Edward "Ed" Norman, 73, of Hagans Road, Monongalia County, died Monday, at home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Duffy, Lewis County, son of the late James Benton and Leanna Allman Norman.
He was Protestant. He was also a certified hospital engineer and was the first hospital engineer in West Virginia and the 35th hospital engineer in the United States. He also served as secretary of the American Association of Hospital Engineers. He was a life member, an endowment member, and NRA Legion of Honor in the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary A. Norman, of Hagans Road; a son and spouse, Ronald G. and Melissa Townsend, of Mannheim, Germany; two daughters and spouses, Sharon and Robert Huskin, of Fairmont, and Pattie and Boots Smith, of Spearville, L a.; a sister, Macel Jones, of Hagans Road; and five grandchildren and spouses, Cassie Townsend, and Holly Townsend, of Mannheim, Roberta and Roger Pyle, of Columbus, Ohio, Stacey Smith, and Derrick Smith, of Spearsville.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Townsend; two brothers, Thurman R., and Dempsey H. Norman; a sister, Anna Ruth Norman; and his father- and mother-in-law, Roy and Hannah Radcliff.

Nellie F. Ammons
Nellie F. Ammons, 91, of Fairmont, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont.
She was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Weston, daughter of the late F. Lawrence and Jessie Jarvis Henry.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Fairmont. She had previously been employed at Hartley's Department Store in Fairmont in the gift wrapping department.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Lawrence Richard and Betty Ammons, of St. Johns, Mich.; a brother and spouse, Thomas and June Henry, of Uniontown, Ohio; two sisters, Ernestine Dwyer, of Beaver, and Marcelia Woofter, of Barberton, Ohio; four grandchi ldren, Lawrence, Beverly, Kimberly and John; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Glenn Ammons, on Feb. 14, 1983; and a sister, Vera Chandler.

Dr. John J. Harvey
Word has been received of the death of Dr. John J. Harvey, 79, a retired member of the WVU College of Agriculture faculty, on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Greenbrier Valley Hospital in Fairlea.
He was a graduate of Greenville High School, West Virginia University and the University of Wisconsin. Before joining the WVU faculty in 1956, he taught at Hedgesville High School and served as the agricultural extension agent for Berkeley County from 19 46 until 1956. After leaving the WVU faculty, he taught at colleges and universities in Kenya, Ethiopia, Malawi and Niger. He also worked in Saudi Arabia.
He was a member of the WVU Faculty Emeritus Club and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morgantown.
He is survived by his wife, Gayla D. Harvey, of Sinks Grove; three daughters, Rebecca Hawthorne, of Hedgesville, Patricia Cole, of Edwards, Colo., and Marietta Chaney, of Georgetown, Ky.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Virginia C. Harvey.
Service was held at Union Presbyterian Church on Jan. 10. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery in Union.
Laura Alice Collier Michael
Laura Alice Collier Michael, 70, of Cold Spring Road, Morgantown, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 13, 1930, in Dugspur, Va., daughter of the late O.C. and Mattie Webb Collier. She was raised in Rivesville in the home of her aunt Daisy and H.M. Smith.
She was a graduate of Rivesville High School in 1947, former leader of the Little Indian Creek 4-H Club, member of Arnettsville Extension Homemakers, superintendent of Sunday school at Snider Temple United Methodist Church, member of the Marion County Ge neaological Society, and bookkeeper and office manager for the Paw Paw Water Board.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James L. Michael; a son and spouse, James Edward and Jaye Michael, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Nora Lee and Michael Simcoe, of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Billie Sue Murray, Jamie Lee Michael, Jo-C lair Michael, James Paul Michael, Joseph Simcoe and Sara Simcoe, all of Morgantown; a sister, Lila Edman, of Fairmont; and a brother, Avis Collier, of Dugspur.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Marvin, Elmer and Howard Collier.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at McCulla Funeral Home. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, with the Rev. Sandra Firth officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Clinton "Randy" Dean
Clinton "Randy" Dean, 54, of Rowlesburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Philippi, son of Mary Elizabeth Shahan Dean, of Etam, and the late Darrell Ray Dean Sr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He received a Purple Heart and was a member of the National Order of the Purple Heart, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Cannon Hill VFW Post 300 8 in Rowlesburg. He was the owner and operator of C.R. Dean Trucking of Etam. He was a member of the Etam United Methodist Church.
He is also survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Kay Sanders Dean; a son and spouse, Clinton R. II and Melissa Dean, of Etam; two daughters and spouses, Laura Kay and Jim Phillips, of Ridgeley, and K. Melissa and Jared Brewer, of Etam; two brothers and spouses, Darrell R. and Gloria Dean, and Joe and Chris Dean, all of Etam; two sisters and spouses, Martha and John Phillips, of Charleston, and Sara and John Derek, of Bruceton Mills; and four grandchildren, Derek, Dylan, Ryan and Gabrielle.

Frances M. Bennett
Frances M. Bennett, 86, of Falls Church, Va., formerly of Farmington, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.
She was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Farmington, daughter of the late William and Delphia (Conaway) Goodnight.
She lived in Farmington until September, when she moved to Falls Church to live with her niece, Helen Goodnight, and her husband, Arthur Kim. She was a retired bookkeeper for People's Clothing Store in Fairmont. She was Methodist.
She is also survived by three brothers, Robert N. Goodnight, of Fairmont, William N. Goodnight, of Upper Tract, and Paul D. Goodnight, of Farmington; 12 nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Bennett, on Oct. 20, 1990, ; a sister, Alice Goodnight; and two brothers, James Goodnight and Junior Goodnight.

Henry E. Ellison
Henry E. Ellison, 79, of Terra Alta, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 17, 1921, in West Virginia, son of the late Frank and Rachel "Kate" McCrobie Ellison.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was an orderly at Hopemont State Hospital in Terra Alta. He was Protestant.
He is survived by six nieces, Peggy Wilson, of Kingwood, Sharon Strahin, of Masontown, Ruth Wiles, of Sarasota, Fla., Chloe Hite, of Morgantown, Diana McDonnell, of Tampa, Fla., and Linda Waddell, of Beaver Creek, Ohio; four nephews, Jim Ellison, of King wood, Donald Ellison, of the Philippines, Jimmy Hawkins, of Wilmington, Del., and Bill Stuchell, of Marietta, Ohio; and a dear friend, Mildred O'Neal.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Evelyn J. Thomas
Evelyn J. Thomas, 77, of Beverly Personal Care Home in Waynesburg, Pa., formerly of Jerome Park in Morgantown, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001.
She was born June 6, 1923, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Henry and Rose Kisner Uphold.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Morgantown. She was a longtime employee of Morgan Shirt Factory, from which she retired.
She is survived by a son, Harry N. Thomas Jr., of Morgantown; a brother, George Uphold, of Morgantown; three grandchildren and spouses, Richard Allen and Tracy Thomas, Paula A. and Gary Kidder, and Debra and Donnie Moran; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Thomas Sr., July 31, 1979; a daughter, Beverly Jean May; a son, Leslie Orville Thomas; a sister, Ruth Uphold; two brothers, Carl Uphold and Joseph Uphold; and a great-grandchild.

Virgil Ray Hall
Virgil Ray Hall, 76, of Tunnelton, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at home.
He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Thornton, son of the late Clarence F. and Virginia Auvil Hall.
He was employed in the coal mines as a buggy operator and served as constable for 15 years in Reno District before working at Sterling Faucet for 20 years. He was a 24-year member and past president of Tunnelton Ambulance Service; a member of Plumbers an d Pipe Fitters U.A. Local Union No. 152 AFL-CIO, Morgantown; and of Shiloh Brethren Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by a son, Pete Hall, of Tunnelton; two daughters and spouses, Jana Hall and Harold Wolfe, of Tunnelton, and Nancy and Darrell Shay, of Morgantown; five grandchildren, Alexis Wolfe, William Andrew "Drew" Barrows, Tammy and Roger Gray, Teres a Blaisdell, and Sonja Blaisdell; and nine great-grandchildren, William Andrew "Andy" Barrows, Kayla Clark, Victoria Clark, Coleman Andrew Hall, Nathan Blaisdell, Chianti Blaisdell, Catherine Gray, Roger Gray Jr., and Wesley Gray.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Mary Ann Cool Hall, on Feb. 2, 1999; a daughter, Ramona Barrows; three brothers, Henry "Wilson" Hall, Vernon Ralph Hall, and Charles Edward Hall; a sister, Louise Hall; and a great-grandchild, Teresa Elizabeth Hall.

Everett Lee Myers
Word has been received of the death of Everett Lee Myers, 85, of Kingston Nursing Center, Conway, S.C., formerly of Tunnelton, who died Jan. 2, 2001, at Conway Hospital.
He was born July 20, 1915, in Tunnelton, son of the late James and Alice Cline Myers.
He was retired from Avery International in Painesville, Ohio. He was a former member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church in Easley, S.C., and a veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Tharrett Myers, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son and spouse, Arthur W. and Fifi Myers, of Painesville; a daughter and spouse, Lena A. and Donald Weaver, of Independence; a sister, Bessie Bolyard of Tunnelton; a nephew an d spouse, Wilbert and Naoma Kay Bolyard of Tunnelton; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a grandchild.
Services were Jan. 5 in Pickens, S.C., with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, S.C. Donations: Eden Alternative Fund, Kingston Nursing Center, P.O. Box 1496, Conway, SC 29562.
Andrew S. Healey Jr.
Word has been received of the death of Andrew S. "Buck" Healey Jr., of Toms River, N.J., who died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Van Cor Rehab Hospital, Hollywood, Fla.
He was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and was raised in Trenton, N.J.
He had lived in Toms River since the end of World War II. He was a 1933 graduate of Cathedral High School, Trenton, where he was a member of the 1932 state champion football team. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In 1942, after completing OCS training, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant, and in 1944, he was promoted to captain. During World War II, he was a member of the 45th Infantry Division, Company A, 180th Regiment, where he served in the European Theater, receiving three Purple Hearts, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, Crois Le Gare (French Medal of Honor and Bravery), and he liberated many prisoners of war, including his brother. He was an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life Ins urance Co., in Toms River, for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the VFW, of Hollywood, and was a charter member of the American Legion of Seaside Heights, N.J. In 1954, he became a member of the Toms River Elks Club, where he went on to serve as trustee for 20 years, youth activities director for 20 years, started and ran the Victor Bruno Elks Scholarship Award and Fund for 15 years, and was honored with the title of the lifetime member. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Churc h, Toms River, for 50 years, where he served as an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Healey; three sons and spouses, Steve and Jacqueline Healey, and Mickey and Pat Healey, all of Toms River, and James and Karen, of Gainesville, Fla.; two daughters and spouses, Maureen and Terry Hall, of Morga ntown, and Pat and Howard Rahilly, of Toms River; a brother, Owen Healey, of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sarah Lou Gump
Sarah Lou Gump, 58, of Folsom, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Mannington at her daughter's home.
She was born April 1, 1942, in Gas City, Ind., daughter of the late William R. and Ruth Ann Sorrell Whiteman.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed needlecraft on plastic canvas.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Dale Gump, of Folsom; two sons and a spouse, Alan and Judith Gump, of Mannington and Anthony Gump, of Folsom; a daughter, Lori Gump, of Mannington; five grandchildren, Christopher "Andy" Gump, Matthew Gump, Tiffany Gump, James Gump and Julie Gump; a brother, Jerry Whiteman, of Gas City, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Jay Gump; and a brother, James Whiteman.

Joseph Sapanos
Joseph Sapanos, 82, Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at home.
He moved to Florida in 1984 from Lakewood, Ohio. He was an expediter from the Baker Material Handling Co., of Cleveland.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Noone Sapanos; a son and spouse, David and Mary Sapanos, of Berea, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Sapanos, of Parma Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Emily DeVincent and Margaret Albertazzi, both of Morgantown; a brother, John Sapanos, of Auburn, Wash.; five grandchildren, Melanie, Heather, James Jr., Stephanie and Christopher Sapanos.

Robert Dale Dalton
Robert Dale "Rowdy" Dalton, 69, of Cobun Valley Lane in Morgantown, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Morgantown, son of the late Vernice and Virginia Menear Dalton.
He was a member of Harner's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a former employee of Pittsburgh Automotive Parts and was retired from Morgantown Machine and Hydraulics after 23 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the VFW Post 747 in Point Marion, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Loughry Dalton; three sons and spouses, Darrell and Debbie Dalton, Jon and Cheryl Dalton, and Bradley and Cindy Dalton, all of Morgantown; four grandsons, Christopher, Justin, Tad and Josh Dalton; and a great- granddaughter, Emily Dalton.

Roy L. Ash
Roy L. Ash, 68, of Saltwell, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
He was born June 4, 1932, in Lumberport, son of the late Russell and Anna Swiger Ash.
He was a retired electrician and a retired member of IBEW Local 596. He was a member of Shinns Run Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Elliott Ash; six sons, Douglas Ash, of Fairmont, Bruce Ash, of Buckhannon, Tim Ash, of Morgantown, Rusty Bates, of Shinnston, Jason Ash, of Clarksburg, and Patrick Ash, of Bridgeport; two daughters and spouse, Linda an d Larry Hedrick, of Huntington, and Janet Bland, of Clarksburg; a brother, Gerald Ash, of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Geraldine Smith, of Wheaton, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carolene Raeder Amsler
Word has been received of the death of Carolene Raeder Amsler, 100, formerly of Morgantown, on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
She was a resident of Morgantown until the 1960s.
She is survived by three children, Robert Raeder, of Longwood, Fla., Don Raeder, of Apopka, Fla., and Norma Jean Beackman, of Altamonte Springs; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Raeder, in 1961; and her second husband, whom she married in 1968, Thomas Amsler, in 1976.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover.
Lucille Rago Ellis
Lucille Rago Ellis, 85, of Milford Street, Clarksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at home.
She was born June 17, 1915, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Pete Rago and Madeline Costello.
She was a graduate of Salem College and taught at Victory, Bridgeport, and Washington Irving high schools. She was principal of the West Virginia Business College. She was also the Italian Woman of the Year, Member of the Catholic Daughters of America, C larksburg Womens Club, Staley Garden Club volunteer of the year of United Hospital Center Auxiliary. She also worked alongside her husband at the Ellis Lunch from 1945-1950, and then at Ellis Restaurant from 1950-1980, when it closed. She was The Exponent-Telegram's Woman of the Year 2000, and she and her husband were outstanding alumni of Salem College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a lifetime member of the West Virginia GFWC, past president of Stealey Garden Club, and was a member of the Immaculat e Conception Catholic Church of Clarksburg. She began her volunteer services at St. Mary's Hospital and increased her efforts when St. Mary's and Union Protestant Hospital merged into the United Hospital Center, becoming the second president of that auxiliary. She also served as president of West Virginia state auxiliary and as district counselor, acting as mentor for volunteers around the country. She received honors as UHC volunteer of the year and state volunteer of the year. She also served as direc tor of volunteer services, editor of the state newsletter, and chairman of the UHC gift shop. The newly renovated gift shop has been officially named The Lucille Ellis Gift Shop.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Sam Ellis Sr., whom she married on June 23, 1938; three sons, Richard Ellis, of Reno, Nev., David Ellis, of Charleston, and Sam Ellis Jr., of New York; six grandchildren, Rosemary Thomas, Scott Ellis, Marc Elli s, Kimberly Ellis, Sammy Ellis and Diane Dennick; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda and Adam Whitlock.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Fields and Rosa Rago.

Frank Fiands
Frank Fiands, 87, of Arlington Addition, Route 3 Box 368, Clarksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at home.
He was born in Clarksburg, son of the late Marion Fiands and Josephine Lanni Fiands.
He was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Pete Cregia Fragale, of Clarksburg; and a sister-in-law, Carmela Fiands, of Clarksburg.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lemoyne Fiands; a son, James Fiands; and a brother, William Cregia.

Charles E. Henry
Word has been received of the death of Charles E. Henry, 72, of Akron, Ohio, who died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001.
He was born June 28, 1928, son of Gilbert E. and Madlene Hacker Henry.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the E.F. Donley Construction Co., of Akron, as a masonry finisher.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Henry, of Akron; a brother, Paul "Bud" Henry, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sisters, Pauline Casteel, and Betty McIe, both of Westover.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene, and Hillis Henry; four sisters, Cathlene Phillips, Dorothy Moore, Doris Jean Henry, and Ann Russell.
Friends may call at New Comer and Farley Funeral Home, Akron, from 10 a.m. until the noontime service, Saturday, Jan. 20. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Akron.
Virginia Mae Hairston
Virginia Mae Hairston, 96, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001.
She was born Aug. 2, 1904, in Morgantown, daughter of the late William A. and Daisy Jane Holland.
She attended elementary and high schools in Morgantown. She was a cook and served as executive chef at several WVU sororities and later at Chadwick Estates in Morgantown.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Virginia and Gerald Baugh, of Portland; two sisters, Ethel Jackson, of Cincinnati, and Ailleen Townsend, of Southfield, Mich.; five grandchildren, Andre, Reginald, Ronald, Renee and Michelle; and five great-grand children, Brandon, Aaron, Steven, Stephanie and Rodrick.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Itson Hairston.
There will be no services and a private burial service. Ross Hollywood Chapel in Portland is in charge of arrangements.
Jack W. Connor
Jack W. Connor, 70, of Washington, Pa., formerly of Nemacolin, Carmichaels, and Uniontown, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at home after a brief illness.
He was born March 28, 1930, in Nemacolin, son of the late William James and Anna Marshall Jaynes Connor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a 1947 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and a 1961 graduate of West Virginia University, where he received a degree in mining engineering. He worked for Youngstown Sheet a nd Tube, Republic Steel Corp., Eastern Associated Coal Co., J&L Steel and Pennsylvania Mines Corp. He retired as superintendent with British Petroleum-Coal Division in Washington in 1989. He was a member of Valley Lodge 459 F&AM of Masontown, Pa., and th e Elks Lodge 776 of Washington. He was Protestant.
He is survived by his first wife, Leona Mae Connor, of Uniontown; Elizabeth Sue Porter, with whom he shared his home for the past 18 years; a son, Jack W. Connor, of Uniontown; three stepdaughters, Suzanne Powers, of Beallsville, and Cheryl Pitzer and Do nna McCallum, both of Washington; two sisters, Betty Jean Berish, of Masontown, and Audrey Gideon, of Carmichaels; three grandchildren, Jessica, Hillary and Jordan Connor; four step-grandchildren, Nicole VanDivner, Bethany Powers, Tony Pitzer and Ashley Pitzer; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Wilson; and a brother, William C. Connor.
Friends may call at Yoskovich Funeral Home, 300 South Vine St., Carmichaels, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, with Pastor Robert Speer officiating. Private burial will be held at the family's convenience in Laur el Point Cemetery in Carmichaels. Donations can be made to any local blind association.
Eleanor Reed Wilt
Eleanor Reed Wilt, 85, of Pleasant Valley, died Jan. 18, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Boothsville, Taylor County, daughter of the late W. Frank Reed and Eunice Scranage Reed.
She grew up in the Boothsville community, which was settled in the early 1800s by her ancestors. She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and Fairmont State College. She retired as a Marion County elementary school teacher in 1975, having taught in both rural and city schools. She was an active and retired member of county, state and national teachers associations.
As an active member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church since 1956, she served as a coordinator of the children's Christian education department for almost 30 years, including organizing and directing a children's choir for 20 years. She was also a member of the adult choir for 44 years. During her retirement, she promoted the work of the United Methodist Women in the Valley Chapel Unit and also served on the Fairmont District level. She has represented Valley Chapel church in Church Women United, the Greater Fairmont Parish and Council of Churches. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, Marion County Historical Association, Retired Federal Employees and, for several years, served as a volunteer at Fairmont General Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Joyce Ann and Charles E. Bower, of Morgantown; a sister, Betty Reed Dowdell, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruby Wilt Smell, of Whitehall; two nieces, Sue Alban and Helen Brumage; four nephews, Dave and B ill Dowdell, and Scott and Tim Alban; and several cousins.

Edith Marstiller
Edith Louise Gabbert Marstiller, 72, of Collins Ferry Road in Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 29, 1928, in National, daughter of the late Charles H. and Sybil Wilt Gabbert.
She was a 1947 graduate of Morgantown High School and a 1950 graduate of Monongalia General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Monongalia General Hospital for many years. She and her late husband owned and operated Marstiller 's Mobile Home Park and Sales on Collins Ferry Road. She spent many of her adult years as a caregiver to other people, and volunteered at the local Red Cross offices helping with blood drives. She was a member of the Suncrest United Methodist Church, Dru mmond Chapel campus.
She is survived by three sons and spouses, Frank E. and Wilda Marstiller, Don W. and Jane Marstiller, all of Morgantown, and Jeffrey M. and Nancy Marstiller, of Core; six grandchildren, Shane and Amy, of Morgantown, William and Melissa, and Sarah and Jes se, all of Core; three sisters and spouses, Mary G. Fuller, of Sterling, Va., Nancy and Fred Stock, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and Alice and Richard Willis, of Morgantown.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donnie B. Marstiller in 1990; two brothers, Charles E. Gabbert and William G. Gabbert; and an infant sister, Dora Frances Gabbert.

Charlotte Rockwell Miller
Charlotte Lea Rockwell Miller, 57, of Lorain, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a sudden illness.
She was born June 11, 1943, in Wheeling, and lived in Blacksville before moving to Lorain in 1962.
She was a 1961 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School. She later graduated from Northern Institute of Cosmetology, Lorain. She worked as a beautician and instructor for more than 30 years. She enjoyed flowers, shopping and hair styling.
She is survived by two daughters, Drema Lea Dittmer and Connie Renee Phillips, both of Lorain; her mother, Betty L. Raber, of Pentress; a brother, Arliss A. Rockwell, of Blacksville; a sister, Susie Tennant, of Core; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Homer F. Miller Jr., in 1990; and her father, Arliss L. Rockwell, in 1992.

Donald T. Matthews
Donald T. Matthews, 71, of W.Va. 3, Grafton, formerly of Browns Chapel, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at home.
He was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Hyannis, Neb., son of the late Henry T. and Tina O'Kieffe Matthews.
He was a retired metallurgist, automobile and motorcycle mechanic and automobile reconstructionist.
He is survived by his wife, June Brown Matthews; a daughter and spouse, Leah Kay and Dean Grimm, of Warrenton, Va.; a stepson, Bradley Flemington, of Morgantown; two stepdaughters, Pamela Arlotti, of Pittsburgh, and Sandra Royce, of Morgantown; a brother , Dan F. Matthews, of Browns Chapel; and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Robert Matthews.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dering's Funeral Home. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, with the Rev. Robert Joerg officiating. Burial will follow in Halleck Cemetery.
