Richard L. Coffman, 62, of Paden City, died Wednesday Jan. 31, 2001, at home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Herbert T. and Sarah Eddleman Coffman.
He was retired with 17 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Vietnam War. He served as the finance officer for the American Legion Post 28 of New Martinsville, and was a member of VFW Post 9930 of Duffy, Ohio. He was Protestant.
He is survived by a son, Rick Coffman, of Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Sheryl Coreas, of Ansonia, Conn., and Loretta Elmassri, of Seymour, Conn.; a sister, Rose Butcher, of Hundred; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Coffman, Warren Coffman and Herbert T. Coffman Jr.; a sister, Mary Walsh; his second wife, Sondra Coffman; and his third wife, Dora Coffman.
Friends may call at Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred, from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, with Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating. Arthur Lee "Art" McCourt
Arthur Lee "Art" McCourt, 71, of Pearl Street, Grafton, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1929, son of Nina Knight McCourt Fish, of Grafton, and the late Charles McCourt.
He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was first stationed in Germany during the World War II cleanup effort and then in Korea, where he was a prisoner of war. He was a member of VFW Memorial City Post No. 3081, of Grafton. He w as a new Christian affiliated with Calvary Baptist Church of Grafton.
He is also survived by his wife, Betty June Heavner McCourt, whom he married May 12, 1950; two daughters and spouses, Constance June and Beryl Jr. Riley, and Karen Sue and Cecil Ray Knight, all of Grafton; a son and spouse, Rickey Lee and Marsha McCourt, of Davis; seven grandchildren and spouses, Jeramie Riley, Shanalyn and Anthony Lemley, Jason Arthur McDaniel, Kyla and Shawn Palmer, Casey Knight, Zackary McCourt and Ashley McCourt; three great-grandchildren, Tasha Flynn, Jessica Lemley and Olexa McCou rt; a brother and spouse, Paul E. and Martha McCourt, of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Laura Juanita Bennett.

Jacob Wade Beckner
Jacob Wade Beckner, infant son of Michelle and Jason Beckner, of Morgantown, died in Morgantown.
He is also survived by a sister, Heather Renee Carroll; maternal grandparents, Marianne and Warren Elliott, of Morgantown; paternal grandparents, Rhonda and John Beckner, of Morgantown; and great-grandparents, Ralph R. Hayes and Evalou Metz, both of Morg antown.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Edmund V. Clayton Jr.
Edmund V. Clayton Jr., 58, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Morgantown, and formerly of Amherst, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Morgantown, son of the late Edmund V. Clayton Sr., and Beatrice DeVall Clayton.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School in 1960. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A former owner of the Amherst Inn, in Amherst, Ohio, he was formerly employed at Pro Pontiac and Valley Health Care Center. He was an avid cl assic car enthusiast and loved animals.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Claudia Pisegna Clayton; two sons and spouse, Edmund V. Clayton III, of Amherst, and David C. and Michelle Clayton, of Minneapolis; two grandsons, Jonathan Clayton and Christopher Clayton, both of Minneapolis; a si ster, Johna Lee Stephens, of Charlotte, N.C.; and his mother-in-law, Louise Pisegna, of Morgantown.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Katie and John DeVall and a paternal grandfather, Vern Clayton.

Frank Strakal
Frank "Foxy" Strakal, 81, of Minkey Row, Cassville, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Lora City, Ohio, son of the late Dominick and Mary Dorko Strakal.
He was a member of Cassville United Methodist Church. He was a retired coal miner from the Blacksville No. 1 Mine and the Bunker Coal Co. He was also a member of UMW Local 1588, and a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps' 13th Airbor ne in the Pacific. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 548.
He is survived by three daughters and spouses, Dora and Donald Testa, of Pottstown, Pa., Lena Jo and John Rowan, of Morgantown, and Sandra Strakal, of Canyon Mobile Home Park; a son and spouse, William G. and Bernice Strakal, of Morgantown; five grandchi ldren, Donny Thomas Testa Jr., Jeff Michael Testa, Brian James Testa, all of Pottstown, and Brian Edward Strakal, and Traci Jo Charlton, both of Morgantown; four great-grandchildren, Mickenna Marie Charlton, Madison Michelle Charlton, Joshua Kyle Riggs a nd Caleb Strakal, all of Morgantown; and two sisters, Minnie Norman, and Stella Norman, both of Byesville, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pack Strakal, in 1984; five brothers, Ralph, Joseph, Carl, John and Pete Strakal; and three sisters, Mary Porcher, Anne DeMent and Catherine Koloff.

Dr. Joseph T. Mallamo
Joseph T. Mallamo, 90, of Fairmont, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at home.He was born Feb. 17, 1910, in Farmington, son of the late Dominic and Theresa Ferrise Mallamo.
He attended the West Virginia University School of Medicine and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served his internship at Saint Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh and went on to study surgery at the University of Pennsylvani a. He served Marion County for 60 years as a practicing physician and a former chief of staff at Fairmont General Hospital. He was a member of the American Medical Association, West Virginia Medical Association and past president of the Marion County Med ical Society.
He served as captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942-1946. He was stationed in New Guinea during World War II and won several service medals including two Bronze Service stars.
He was an avid golfer, winning several local, county and state golf championships, including the national AMA Championship. He was majority stock holder in Apple Valley Country Club. He devoted many years to the ARC of Marion County. He also volunteered as a team doctor for the Fairmont Field Club and Green Hills Country Club.
He is survived by three daughters and spouse, Cecelia Mallamo, of Pittsburgh, Tressa Mallamo, of Fort Collins, Colo., and JoAnn Mallamo and Andy Rogers, of Clayton, Del.; a son and spouse, Dr. J.T. Jr. and Debbie Mallamo, of Monterey, Calif; a brother, D r. Sam Mallamo, of Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Nina Anika Mallamo, Simon Mallamo, Anthony Mallamo, Tracy Mallamo and Daniel Mallamo.
He was also preceded in death by two wives, JoAnn Skirtish Mallamo and Evelyn Mallamo; four brothers, Dr. Franklin Mallamo, Dr. Albert Mallamo, Lew Mallamo and Edward Mallamo; and three sisters, Mary Shahady, Jenny Boyce and Florence Reta Mallamo.

William R. Sherrill
William R. Sherrill, 67, of Williamson, formerly of Fairmont, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Manassas, Va.
He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Williamson, son of the late Clyde and Ivory Carter Sherrill.
He was Protestant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a handyman most of his life.
He is survived by four sisters, Haggir Moorer, of Youngstown, Ohio, Sylvia Graves, of Columbus, Ohio, Connie Sherrill, of Huntington, and Nancy Gordon, of Newport News, Va.; and four brothers, Thomas Sherrill, of Portsmouth News, Va., Harry Sherrill, of Williamson, Bobby Sherrill, of Williamson, and Ronnie Sherrill, of Columbus.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sherrill; and two sisters, Hanna Scales and Colleen Weaver.

James H. Wells
James H. Wells, 82, Love Street, Erwin, Tenn., formerly of Huntington, died Friday Feb. 2, 2001, in the WVU Hospital.
He was born in Inez, Ky., son of the late George and Lora Delong Wells.
He lived in Huntington before moving to Erwin 23 years ago. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He retired from the Eastern Coal and Fuel Association in 1974, after 34 years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, flying 32 missions over Japan. He was also a member of the O'Dell Masonic Lodge No. 115, the Beni Kedem Shrine, having received the York and Scottish Rites, the Charleston Shrine No. 7, and the UMWA Loca l No. 9177.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Jeffrey Wells, of Erwin; three daughters and spouses, Susanne and Danny Neale, of Huntington, Louise and Charles Hunt, of Morgantown, and Deborah and Jim Pye, of Hurricane; a brother and spouse, Haskell and Joyce Wells , of Melbourne, Fla; a sister, Virginia Pauline O'Neal, of Charleston; and five grandsons, Danny Jay Neale II, Chad Alan "Bootchie" Neale, Charles Richard Hunt II, James Michael Hunt and Shawn Patrick Pye.
He was also preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

Edward M. Armstrong
Edward M. Armstrong, 69, of Morgantown, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at home.
He was born March 4, 1931, in Buckhannon, son of the late W.F. and Jesse Waugh Armstrong.
He was a 1949 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, then enrolled in the West Virginia State Police Academy in 1953. He retired after 33 years service with the rank of sergeant, having served in Clarksburg, Shinnston, Weston, Fairmont, Elkins, Morgantown, Moundsville and Webster Springs. After his retirement from the State Police, he became a real estate agent and worked for Century 21 Real Estate in Morgantown. He was a member of the Elkins Masonic Lodge and was Protestant. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed woodworking, and reading about current events and politics.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Messinger Armstrong; two sons, Edward L. Armstrong, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Jeffrey A. Armstrong, of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Virginia A. Armstrong, of Nashville; a grandson, Brandon E. Armstrong, of G aithersburg; three brothers and spouses, French W. and Lois Armstrong, of French Creek; Robert and Joan Armstrong, of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Alan Armstrong, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and two sisters and spouses, Rose and George Hedrick, of Akro n, Ohio, and Louise and Tom Montgomery, of Akron.

Frances Katherine Julian
Frances Katherine Julian, 59, of Fairmont, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Fairmont, daughter of the late John and Katherine Blazonczyck Rote.
She was a registered nurse at Fairmont General Hospital. She had worked there for the past 36 years starting in 1964. She graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1959 and from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1962 and attended West Virginia University f or one year in 1963. She also worked at the former St. Vincent Palotti Hospital in Morgantown in 1963. She was an active member of the American Organization of Operating Room Nurses. She was also the past president of the St. Peter's High School Alumni A ssociation. She was also a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Joseph Julian, of Fairmont; two sons and spouses, Alexander Bryan and Shelley Julian, of Charleston, S.C., and Michael Anthony and Nathalie Julian, of Paris; a daughter, Christina Julian, of Fairmont; two brothers, John Rote, of Dallas, and Stanley Rote, of Baltimore; a sister, Roseanne Zabolotny, of Dallas; and four grandchildren, Victoria Marie Julian, Elizabeth Morgan Julian, Guillaume Anthony Gerard Julian and Nicholas Simon Julian.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Maruka.

Katharine E. Paugh, 90, of West Washington Street, Grafton, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Country Living Nursing Home, Grafton, after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 19, 1910, in Grafton, daughter of the late Joseph Duffy and Belle Louise Cline Duffy.
She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 3081, Grafton, and the St. Augustine Catholic Church of Grafton.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence W. Paugh Jr., of Green Belt, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Lauren Paugh, of Grafton; eight grandchildren and spouses, Tammy and John Kendrick and Kelly Nash, of Grafton, Cheryl and Brian DeHaven, of Frederick, Md., Lori Paugh , Gregory Paugh, Glenn Paugh and Danny Paugh, all of Green Belt, and Carol and John Foster, of Florida; and 10 great-grandchildren, Allen Moon, Courtney and Bonita Nash, Brianna Kendrick, Kyle DeHaven, Brent DeHaven, Kalynn and Connor Foster, Christina R ichmond and Michael Paugh.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. She was born Jan. 1, 1940, in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Haddleton Ritchie.
She was an avid doll collector.
She is survived by her husband, Richard D. Dick; a daughter, June Munro, of Scotland; four brothers and spouses, George and Florence Ritchie, of Fairmont, James and Mary Ritchie, Alfie and Mary Ritchie, and Alex Ritchie, all of Scotland; two sisters and spouse, Florence Thompson and Ann and Lechie McDonald, all of Scotland; and a grandson, Duncan Munro, of Scotland.

Geneva P. Feather, 91, of Eglon, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, where she had lived for the past year and a half.
She was born April 16, 1909, at Horse Shoe Run, daughter of the late Grover C. and Ina Wotring Evans.
She was a homemaker and member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Feather, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Kerry Lee Feather, of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Hunt, of Thomas; three brothers, Milan Evans and Grover Evans, both of Elkins, and Orville Evans, of Horse Shoe Run; three sis ters, Joyce Lantz, of Oakland, Md., and Mary Hauser and Lela Mullenax, both of Horse Shoe Run; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Feather, in 1978; and a brother and sister.

Bessie Barbara Ann Auxier, 85, of 100 Tallman Ave., Elkins, died Thursday, Feb. 6, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, after a short illness.
She was born July 7, 1915, in Valley Bend, daughter of the late Herman and Arha Oxley Bennett.
She was a homemaker and member of Valley Head Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by a son, Willard Ray Auxier, of Fort Worth, Texas; four daughters, Darlene J. Sparks, of Dailey, Barbara F. Riggleman, of Beverly, Wanda L. Arbogast, of Monterville, and Carolyn Sue Arbogast, of Valley Head; two brothers, Jennings Bennet t and Carroll Bennett, both of Ohio; four sisters, Nora Louk, of Clarksburg, Edna Watson, of Mill Creek, Florence Pritt, of Ohio, and Janet Hollobaugh, of Rowlesburg; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arley E. Auxier; two sons, Marvin R. Auxier and Everett Auxier; a daughter, Patricia Auxier; five brothers, Lewis, Charles, Wayne, Howard and Eldrith, and two sisters, Hallie Henline and Eva Bennett.

Ruth Virginia Lough
Ruth Virginia Core Booth Lough, 84, of Weirton Geriatric Center, formerly of Morgantown, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Weirton Geriatric Center.
She was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Wadestown, daughter of the late Martin and Ella Mae Taylor Core.
She was a member of the Morgantown Madigan Avenue Church of Christ. She attended Glenville State College and WVU, where she received degrees in science and education. She taught junior high in Monongalia County, retiring in 1979. She was chairman of the Easter Seal Society of Monongalia County from 1952 to 1953.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Danny L. and Barbara Booth, of Huntersville, N.C.; a stepson, Paul E. Booth Jr., of Clarksburg; a brother, Edwin L. Core, of Collinsville, Conn.; two grandsons, Matthew Paul, of Nazareth, Pa., and Daniel Miguel, of Hu ntersville; and two step-grandsons, Charles Paul and Timothy Wayne, both of Clarksburg.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Eugene Booth, in 1965; and her second husband, Fred L. Lough, in 1989.

Mary Lorraine Haller
Mary Lorraine Haller, 76, of Route 3, Grafton, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Dec. 31, 1924, daughter of the late Charles O. and Helena Kisamore Harris.
She was a homemaker and a member of Grafton Chapter 12 of the Order of the Eastern Star and St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Grafton.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford "Hunk" Haller, whom she married Dec. 31, 1963; two daughters, Sandra Curry and Carol Cochran, both of Philippi; a stepdaughter, Sherry Haller, of Princeton; six grandchildren, Rachel Domeico, Sam Curry, David Coch ran, Damon Cochran, Amy Harrell and Joey Curry; and five great-grandchildren.

Jimmie H. Cosner
Jimmie "Jim" H. Cosner, 66, of Fairmont, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Gormania, son of the late Carl and Lottie Parker Cosner.
He was retired from Larry Myers Jeep-Subaru where he was the parts manager. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cosner; a brother and spouse, Clyde W. and Dorwina Cosner, of Elkins; two sisters and a spouse, Elva Nardi, of Fairmont, and Mary Louise and George Layton, of Bayard.

Walter E. Basferd
Walter E. Basferd, 88, of Pampa, Texas, formerly of Morgantown, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in Pampa.
He was born May 16, 1912, in Washington, D.C., son of the late William and Waunita Zinn Basferd.
He retired from the West Virginia University maintenance department. He had been a resident of Pampa since June 1998, after moving from Bonaire, Ga., where he had lived for 22 years.
He is survived by a son, George Edward Basferd, of Pampa; two sisters, Dorothy Narrington and Florence La Joice, both of Maryland; a brother, Thomas Basferd, of Morgantown; a granddaughter, of Pampa; and three great-grandchildren, all of Pampa.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard L. Stackpole officiating.
Anna D. Bruenner
Anna Deloris Bruenner, 82, of Fairmont, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont.
She was born June 9, 1918, in Palmer, Pa., daughter of the late John and Anna Dubinsky Dorsey.
She retired from Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co. in New York City, with 22 years service in the manufacturing department. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fairmont. She was a graduate of Rivesvill e High School. She enjoyed ceramics.
She is survived by a brother and spouse, Andrew and Dorothy Dorsey, of Rivesville; three sisters and spouses, Mary Suba, of Rivesville, Helen and David Brown, of Fairmont, and Margaret and Julian Cheslock, of Laurel Point; and 20 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Bruenner, on Jan. 4, 1958; a brother, John Dorsey; a half brother, Frank Krawczyck; a sister, Katherine Dolog; and a nephew, Anthony Julian Cheslock.

Cmdr. William South II
Word has been received of the death of retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. William Wood South II, 82, of Santa Fe, N.M., and formerly of Greene County, Pa., on Jan. 18, 2001, at home.
He was born July 14, 1918, at Atoka, Okla., son of the late Clyde C. and Nelle Conn South.
He graduated from Point Marion (Pa.) High School in 1934 and received a commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Taylortown, Pa.
He is survived by his second wife, Janice; 12 children; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois South Burwell, of Taylortown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Morrison South; and a sister, RoGene South.
The body was cremated. The remains were scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy at Honolulu.

John Joseph Robba Jr.
John Joseph Robba Jr., 86, of Fairchance, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Horizon Personal Care Home.
He was born June 17, 1914, in Hays, Pa., son of the late John J. Sr. and Marie Tartal Robba.
He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius RC Church of Fairchance, also serving as lector. He was also a member of the Fairchance Exchange Club. He was a teacher and principal for 34 years in Georges Township Schools and Albert Gallatin School District until his retirement from Fairchance-Georges Senior High School in 1976. He was an avid sports player, playing Big 10 baseball. He was a captain of the Washington and Jefferson football team from 1938-1939. He coached basketball and football at Georges Township High School until 1956. He enjoyed golfing. He was a 1939 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College and received his master's degree from West Virginia University in 1951.
He is survived by a son and spouse, John J. III and Cheryl Robba, of Smithfield, Pa.; three grandchildren and spouses, Richard and Deborah Robba, of Bruceton Mills, John David and Jennifer Robba, of Fairchance, Christine and Erik Robinson, of Smithfield, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Richie and Ryan Robba, of Bruceton Mills, Sydney, Alex and Grace Elizabeth Robba, of Fairchance, and Lindsey Ann Robinson, of Smithfield; a sister and spouse, Agnes and Thomas Kikta, of Pittsburgh; four sisters-in-law, Mina Porter, of Smithfield, Rose Sopkovec, of Uniontown, Pa., Edwina Robba, of Ranchero DeCarlo, Calif., and Helen Robba, of Cleveland; and a brother-in-law, Frank Kovach, of Fairchance.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith J. Sopkovec Robba; two brothers, Albert and Tony Robba; and a sister, Elizabeth Kovach.
Friends may call at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 W. Church St., Fairchance, from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Prayer service will be held at Sts. Cyril & Methodius RC Church at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, followed by a M ass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m., with Rev. David J. Nazimek as celebrant. Barbara Jean Spencer
Barbara Jean Spencer, 72, of Sanford Community, Fairmont, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Fairmont, daughter of the late John F. and Ruth Hartley Hawkinberry.
She was a homemaker and mother and had worked in the jewelry department at G.C. Murphy's Store in Fairmont. She was a member of the Hoult United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and enjoyed being outdoors and working in h er garden.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gail Roger Spencer, whom she married March 11, 1951; a daughter and spouse, Lydia and Robert McDaniel, of Bridgeport; two brothers and spouses, Raymond and Mary Rose Hawkinberry, of Florida, and Robert "Skip" a nd Rose Hawkinberry, of Fairmont; two sisters and spouses, Shirley and Orval Given, of Woodbridge, Va., and Marjorie and Lawrence Stickles, of Fairmont; and two granddaughters, Erin Courtney McDaniel and Caitlin Paige McDaniel.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl David Hawkinberry; and a sister, Phoebe Jane Stickles.
