George T. Whitlatch, 73, of Arbors at Fairmont, formerly of Farmington, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the Arbors.
He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Farmington, son of the late John and Edith Lough Whitlatch.
He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Farmington and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Juanita Satterfield, Irene Vandergrift, Aliva Jones and JoAnn Hartzell.
Friends may call at Dent Funeral Home in Farmington from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 with the Rev. Keith Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Farmington.
Rev. Rex R. Coffman
Rev. Rex R. Coffman, 86, of Corinth, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Bloomington, Md., son of the late Raymond and Irene Cupp Coffman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was the pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Corinth since 1975. He and his wife, Helen, ran a mission in their early ministries. He was also a former policeman.
He is survived by his wife, Helen LaRue Coffman; a daughter, Joyce Lyons, of Westernport, Md.; a son, Paul David Coffman, of Short Gap; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service was held Monday at Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. George Loar officiating. Burial was in Bloomington Cemetery in Maryland.
Frances W. Farley
Word has been received of the death of Frances W. Farley, 84, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Cassville, who died Feb. 11, 2001, in the Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Fla.
She was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Hundred, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Hostutler.
She was a retired nurse's aide and Protestant.
She is survived by a son, Carl Moore, of Newport Richey, Fla.; a daughter, Sylvia Wise, of Pine Bank, Pa.; three stepsons, Jack Farley, of Morgantown, Don Farley, of Florida, and Ron Farley, of Chicago; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Farley; a granddaughter; and several brothers and sisters.

Orvel Keith Ayers
Orvel Keith Ayers, 46, of Morgantown, formally of Sophia, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in a Beckley hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1955, in Greenbrier County, son of Ruby Wood Ayers, of Sophia, and the late Orval Ray Ayers.
He is survived by his wife, Bettyann Wilcox Ayers; a daughter, Brianna, of Morgantown; his paternal grandmother, Flora Ayers, of Greenbrier County; two stepdaughters, Christine Wilcox and Jennifer McGinley, both of Morgantown, and a granddaughter, Pippa Crosby McGinley, of Morgantown.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nellie and Dewey Wood.

Judith Parker
Judith Parker, 57, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at home.
She was born May 2, 1943, in Salt Lake City, daughter of Robert A. Anderson, of Salt Lake City, and the late Alice Wells Anderson.
She had a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Utah. She taught in Oregon, in Salt Lake City and in Monongalia County schools, and was a WVU Extension Learning Specialist.
She joined WWVU-TV (now WNPB-TV) in 1973 as its school service specialist. She remained with the station until her retirement in July 2000 as statewide director of educational services for West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
Under her direction, West Virginia ranked at the top nationally for enrollment in college credit courses through the PBS Higher Educational Instructional television services.
She is survived by her husband, B. Kent Parker, of Morgantown; two sons, Bryce Anderson Parker and Jeffrey Stephen Parker, both of Morgantown; and three brothers, Robert Anderson Jr., of Phoenix, Stephen Anderson, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Roger Anderson , of Salt Lake City.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Anderson.

John F. Taylor
John F. Taylor, 88, of Hundred, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at home.
He was born May 7, 1912, at Hundred, son of the late Helena Taylor.
He was a retired carpenter, with more than 35 years of membership in Carpenters' Local 1339, Morgantown. Early in his life, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a 41-year member of Littleton Lodge 131 AF&AM, Hundred, and a member of Hund red United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Gable Taylor; three sons, Neil Taylor, of Irwin, Pa., and Jerry Taylor and Russell Taylor, both of Hundred; a daughter, Mabel Ann Wasson, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret York, of Sterling, Va., and Edith Ta ylor, of California; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donald D. Bolyard
Donald D. Bolyard, 81, of Thomas, formerly of Denver, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.
He was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Tunnelton, son of the late Clarence F. and Florence L. Sigley Bolyard. He was a member of Denver United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three brothers and spouses, Richard and Dortha Bolyard, of Tunnelton, Wallace and Ruth Bolyard, of Westover, and Francis "Hugh" Bolyard, of Tunnelton; a sister-in-law, Edna Bolyard, of Mount Morris, Pa.; several nieces, nephews, great-n ieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bolyard; and a sister, Marie Bolyard.

Robert 'Bruce' Menear
Robert "Bruce" Menear, 62, of Albright, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood.
He was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Preston, son of the late Samuel Bruce and Ruby Virginia Pratt Menear.
He worked as a miner operator for more than 30 years before retiring due to a disability. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2391, Kingwood, and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoying hunting, fishing and photography. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and reading.
He is survived by four daughters and spouses, Tammy and Brian Davis, of Rowlesburg, Jamie and Rick Calhoun, of Morgantown, Samantha and Brian Taylor, of Terra Alta, and Rita Menear and Glen Sheldon, of Alpena, Mich.; his companion of 10 years, Gladys Fra nkhouser, of Albright: four brothers, James Menear and Stanley Menear, both of Kingwood, Jackie Menear, of Albright and John Richard Menear, of Missouri; a sister, Virginia Fraley, of Charleston; six grandchildren, Fabian L. Green, of Grafton, Nikki R. G reen and Devin M. Green, both of Rowlesburg, Avery B. Menear, of Alpena, and Joshua T. Taylor and Hayley D. Taylor, both of Terra Alta; a grandmother, Elmo Pratt, of Valley Point; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Phyllis Menear, of Row lesburg.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry "Popeye" Menear, and a granddaughter, Frankie Jo Bruno.

Viola V. Wilkinson
Viola V. Wilkinson, 97, of Mount Morris, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa.
She was born July 31, 1903, in Core, daughter of the late Samuel and Minnie Alice Wright.
She is survived by a stepson and spouse, Allen and Isabelle Wilkinson, of Fleming, Ohio; a niece, Alice Watson, of Wallace; eight stepgrandchildren, Butch, Diana, Claudia, Shirlene, Gary, Ronnie, Bob and Rodger; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren and 16 stepgrea t-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett A. Wilkinson, on Feb. 23, 1980; a brother, Ross Santee; a stepdaughter, Virginia Lemley; and a stepgreat-grandson, Elvis Lemley.

Patsy J. Schnabel
Patsy J. Schnabel, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Fort Myers (Fla.) Hospice.
She was a longtime Morgantown resident and former owner of Papillon.
She is survived by her husband, John Schnabel; two sons, Jeffrey Schnabel, of Portland, Ore., and Timothy Schnabel, of North Hollywood, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Kay Schnabel, of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren; three sisters; a brother; and many nieces and nephews.
At her request, her body will be cremated. A private family funeral will be held in Fort Myers, after which her ashes will be buried at sea in the Gulf of Mexico. A memorial celebration and open house will be held at 2 p.m., April 14, at Elizabeth Moore Hall on the WVU campus. Estelleen Martin
Estelleen Martin, 89, of Mannington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Wishing Well Manor, Fairmont.
She was born Oct. 31, 1911, in Smithfield, daughter of the late Stephen Douglas and Daisy Hayes Morris.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mannington, the DAR, Garden Club, Homemakers Club, Women's Club, Eastern Star and Farm Women's Club, all of Mannington.
She was educated in Mannington schools and graduated from the Hannah Harrison School in Washington, D.C. She worked as a seamstress for Hartley's and Jones Department stores, as well as a housekeeping executive for Holiday Inn, Bridgeport.
She is survived by three sons and two spouses, Hugh Brandon Jr. and Ruth Martin, of Charlottesville, Va., Stephen B. and Leah Martin, of Fairmont, and Jerry K. Martin of Harpers Ferry; seven grandchildren, Amy Jones, Hugh III, Stephen Jr., Scott, Andrea Linderman, Mariah and Douglas Martin, and three great-grandchildren.
From age 8, she was raised in the home of the late Curtis and Bessie Starkey. Her siblings in that home were Evelyn Gooch West, Kathryn and Eugene Starkey, and the late Gladys Huffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 51 years, Hugh B. Martin, on Oct. 26, 1983; a grandson, Andrew Martin; and two brothers, Joe Morris and Paul Morris.

Alice Louise Wright
Alice Louise Wright, 74, of Fairmont, Coon's Run, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Bondy Armstrong.
She was a homemaker. She had worked at Hartley's Department Store in Fairmont, and most recently had been a caregiver. She enjoyed piecing and sewing quilts and growing flowers. She was a member of Everson Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star Cha pter 34, Fairmont. She attended Boothsville Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons and spouses, Clyde D. and Nancy Wright, of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Pastor Orville E. and Ruth Wright, of White Hall; four brothers, Carl Armstrong, of Utica, Ohio, Clyde Armstrong, of Centerburg, Ohio, Leroy Armstrong, of Sun Ci ty, Ariz., and Damon Armstrong, of Delaware, Ohio; four sisters, Katherine Hinton, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Virginia Morehouse, of Utica, Ohio, Opal Heldreth, of Mannington, and Linda Roshon, of Sunbury, Ohio; four grandchildren and a spouse, Matthew and F rancesca Wright, of Monongah, Rebekah Wright, of White Hall, and Jeffrey Wright and Jennifer Wright, both of Rio Rancho.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clyde Joseph Wright, on March 16, 1990, and a sister, Dorothy Armstrong.

John E. Obuch
John E. Obuch, 78, of Hale, Mich., died Feb. 21, 2001, at home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Morgantown, son of Steve and Margaret Planka Obuch.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for 35 1/2 years at the GM Willow Run Assembly Plant before retiring in 1989. He was a member of UAW local 1776, and a former resident of West Willow, Ypsilanti, Mich.
He is survived by five children and spouses, Florence and Arthur Rock, of Milan, Mich., Ferne Nichols, of Hale, Larry Obuch, of Belleville, Mich., John and Louann Obuch, of Whitmore Lake, Mich., and Steven Obuch Sr., of Hale; four sisters, Mary Coulter, Ann Fisher, Eva Moymer and Sophia Laktos, all of West Virginia; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Florence Obuch, on Jan. 6, 2000, and a son, Garry Obuch, on Sept. 26, 1996.

Raymond J. Giblin "Bud" Taylor, 76, of Roseville, Mich., and formerly of Burton, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001.
He was born May 13, 1924, at Burton, son of the late Winifred Giblin Eakin.
He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Burton, and Earl Kiger American Legion Post 120, Hundred.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Taylor; a daughter, Marilyn Brown; a son, Michael Taylor, and two grandchildren.

John William Pitzer
John William Pitzer, 72, of Wilford Street, Grafton, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital.
He was born in Grafton on Sept. 16, 1928, son of the late Katherine Pitzer Wickham.
He was a self-employed plumber, working at Pitzer Densmore Co., Grafton. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Grafton Elks Lodge No. 308, American Legion Post 12, was a former Boy Scout scoutmas ter and council member of Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by a son and spouse, John P. and Nancy Pitzer, of Grafton; two brothers and spouse, Donavan Wickham, of Grafton, and Dr. James and Mirian Wickham, of Richmond, Va.; a sister and spouse, Shirley and Bernard Montgomery; and two grandsons, Ca sey and Kyle.

Shirley Ann Rice, 65, of Goshen Road, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born July 17, 1935, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Edward and Mary Louise Coleman Herrington.
She was a member of the Viola Mission Church, Pricketts Fort Road, Fairmont, and was a former member of the Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, Edman Eugene Rice; two sons and spouses, Terry Lynn and Karen Rice, of Morgantown and Edward Howard and Misty Rice, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Rhonda Sue and Edward Southern, of Clarksburg; a sister, Jean Minear , of Morgantown; two brothers, Gary and Robert Herrington, both of Morgantown; and seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer and Tiffany Southern, Kimberly Rice, Kevin Rice, Tyler Rice and Hannah Rice.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Marano.

Nancy Jane Hart, 41, of Adeline Street, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at home.
She was born April 9, 1959, in Racine, Ohio, daughter of Kenneth D. and Juanita Hall Cole, of Grafton Road, Morgantown.
She is survived by two sons, Jason Lee Hart and Corden Trytsman Hart, both of Morgantown; four brothers and spouses, Dale and Judy Cole, of Tell City, Ind., Daniel and Pat Cole, of Tell City, David and Pat Cole, of Great Falls, Va. and Dennis Cole, of Mo rgantown; two sisters and a spouse, Louise and Dan Arnold, of Morgantown, and Margaret Cole, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three nieces; three nephews; and a friend, Shawn Rafferty.

Frankie Vargo
Frankie Vargo, 69, of Elkins, formerly of Kingwood, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 in Elkins.
He was born July 27, 1931, in Borgman, son of the late Andrew and Hazel Barker Vargo.
He is survived by two brothers and spouses, Raymond and Ocie Vargo, of Kingwood, and Robert and Jo Vargo, of Bossier City, La.; three nephews, Ray Vargo, of Kingwood, Andy Vargo and Danny Vargo, both of Bossier City; and a niece, Donna Perse of Shrevepor t, La.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bailey.

James Lewis Long Jr.
James "Jim" Lewis Long Jr., 32, of Old Cheat Road, Morgantown, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Aug. 1, 1968, in Morgantown, son of Martha Jane Beckman Long, of Everettville, and James Lewis Long, of Martinsburg.
He was a truck driver for Shaffer Trucking in Masontown and was a member of the Arnettsville United Methodist Church.
He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Martha Beckman, of Everettville; three aunts and a spouse, Dolores Beckman, of Baltimore, Cheryl and Don Caldwell, of Mercer, Pa., and Shirley Hagedorn, of Canyon; two uncles and a spouse, Rusty Beckman, o f Fairmont, and Paul and Patty Long, of Canyon; a fiancee, Stacey Watkins; and two half-sisters, Sarah and Emily Long, both of Martinsburg.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at McCulla Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sandra Firth officiating.

George E. Pierce, 75, of New Freeport, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa.
He was born Oct. 20, 1925, in New Freeport, son of the late George D. and Huldah C. Warrick Pierce.
He was a farmer and was Protestant.
He is survived by three brothers, Francis Pierce, of Colliers, James Pierce, of Sebring, Ohio, and Frank Pierce, of Waynesburg; a half brother, Russell Pierce, of New Freeport; three sisters, Lillian Yoders and Junie Johnson, of New Freeport, and Mary De bolt, of Deep Valley, Pa.; and a half-sister, Rosalee Pierce, of Cleveland.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Thomas Pierce; and a sister, Mildred L. Pierce.

Jo Anne Lybarger, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Meadville, Pa. and Morgantown, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001.
She was a daughter of the late Edith and Russell Lemmon, of Morgantown.
She was educated in both cities.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marlene Paulson, and Mrs. Sandra Holzopple; a brother and spouse, Russell and Kathleen Lemmon, of Morgantown; three nephews; three nieces; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an uncle and spouse, Plu mer and Mandie Ashburn, of Odessa, Texas.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Eldred and Marlene Rae, in infancy.
A memorial service will be at Suncrest United Methodist Church from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, with the Rev. Ronald McCauley officiating.
Thelma Tharp Wolfe
Thelma Tharp Wolfe, 84, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Feb. 22, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Rusk, daughter of the late Rev. C.D. and Grace Morrison Tharp.
She was a homemaker and attended Reger Chapel. She was a member of Memorial Royal Neighbors, Brushy Fork Homemakers and graduated from Lost Creek High School in 1935.
She is survived by a son and spouse, David and Lemoyne Wolfe, of Buckahnnon; two sisters, Frances Everson, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Elaina Veltri, of Shinnston; two brothers, James Tharp, of Fairmont, and Scott Tharp, of Barrackville; a granddaughter , Diane Conover, of Palmyra, Va.; two grandsons and spouses, Edward and Carol Wolfe, of Haslett, Mich., and Eric and Candi Wolfe, of Buckhannon; three great-granddaughters, Justice Wolfe, Breanna Cutright, and Kelsea Cutright, all of Buckhannon; three gr eat-grandsons, Isaac Wolfe and Adam Wolfe, both of Haslett, and Joseph Nichols, of New York; two step-granddaughters, Deanna Wolfe, of Fork Union, Va., and Kerry Miller, of Buckhannon; and two step great-granddaughters, Rachel Wolfe and Rebecca Wolfe, bo th of Fork Union.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wolfe, whom she married Dec. 14, 1935, on Sept. 22, 1997; two sisters, Blanche Carpenter and Delma Brazealle; a brother, Glenn Tharp; and her stepmother, Lydia Hall Tharp.
Friends may call at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Inc. from 4-9 p.m. Saturday. Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Lorentz Church Cemetery, Lorentz.
J. Meredith Pauley
J. Meredith Pauley, 86, of Morgantown, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born in a log cabin, March 18, 1914, in Lincoln County, son of the late Winnonda French Pauley and Elizabeth Pauley.
He worked in the coal mines while attending school and graduated from Van High School in Boone County in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1936-42. He participated in the Battle of Coral Sea in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He graduat ed with a bachelor's degree in economics from West Virginia University in 1948, and served as VA coordinator at WVU from 1948-53. He owned and operated Key Realty & Appraisal Co. Inc., in Morgantown, from 1956-82. He performed more than 2,000 appraisals and was awarded the West Virginia Realtor of the Year award in 1964, and W.Va. Right of Way Man of the Year in 1970. He was a member of the society of Real Estate Appraisers and Morgantown Chamber of Commerce. He volunteered his time to numerous communit y activities in Morgantown.
He was a member and served as a deacon of First Baptist Church on High Street. He was a member of the VFW and was a past commander and 50-year member of the American Legion. In 1949, as commander of the Mountaineer Post 127, he presented to West Virginia University the U.S. flag that flew at half-mast over the nation's Capitol on the day President Franklin D. Roosevelt died. He was a 63-year member of the Morgantown Union Lodge No. 4 AF & AM. He was also a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite. He l oved the outdoors and one of his favorite pastimes was walking in the woods on his farm. He loved vegetable and flower gardening, and reading.
He is survived by six children and spouses, Trenton and Nancy Pauley, of Fayetteville, Ga.; Sue Vada and Stu Anderson, of Duluth, Minn., Kent Pauley, Dwight and Susan Pauley, and David and Sheila Pauley, all of Morgantown, and Brent and Brenda Pauley, of New Martinsville; 11 grandchildren, Heather and Derek, Vada Sue and Shelly, Steven and Michael, Jonanthan and Evan, Valarie and Brook, and Mary Catherine; and four great-grandchildren, Autumn Sloan, Noah Houlden, Chase Pauley and Drake Pauley.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary H. Pauley.
Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, with the Rev. James Stinespring officiating. Burial will be in West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, with military honors and grav eside Masonic services conducted by Morgantown Union Lodge 4.
