Mary Elizabeth McGinnis
Mary Elizabeth McGinnis, 66, of West Middletown, Pa., formerly of Newburg, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at her daughter's home. She was born July 13, 1934, in Denver, daughter of the late Joseph Wakeman and Flossie Leath Wade Bolyard. She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She assisted the community as a caregiver for the elderly and with daily household chores. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and attended the West End United Brethren Church in Tunnelton. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Crupe, of West Middletown, Pa., and Linda McDaniel, of Newburg; a sister, Dorothy May Huffman, of Tunnelton; and three grandchildren, Michael Crupe, Adam McDaniel and Harold McDaniel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Glenn McGinnis, in 1959; a brother, Warren Glenn Bolyard; a sister, Jean Frances Bolyard; two infant grandchildren; and one infant great-grandchild. Jean B. Anderson Namet
Jean Beverly Anderson Namet, 73, of Bobtown, Pa., died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown. She was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Bobtown, daughter of the late Herschel Albert and Flossie Morrison Anderson. She was a 1947 graduate of Point Marion High School. She attended Bobtown United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Tiber Namet; a son and spouse, Charles and Leslie Namet, of Dilliner, Pa.; a daughter and spouse, Jean and Steve Thompson, of Charleston; and two grandchildren, Cain and Molly Namet. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Anderson. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Arrangements and cremation are in the care of Richard R. Josephine F. Sanders
Josephine France Sanders, 73, of Colorado Avenue, in Morgantown, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born July 16, 1927, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Frank and Christie Chiodo Barill. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a son and spouse, Dennis and Nancy Sanders, of Hedgesville; three daughters and spouses, Chris and Andrew Fazenbaker, Tammy and Bill Lough, and Kimberly and Gary Bain, all of Morgantown; a brother, Guiseppe Barill, of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters, Katherine Sypolt, Mary D'Amico and Rose Reid, all of Morgantown; three granddaughters and a great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Sanders. Private service will be at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, with the Rev. David M. Hudson officiating. Burial will be in East Oak Grove Cemetery.

Frances S. Fortney
Frances Shepherd Fortney, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Westover, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Hagerstown Hospital. She was born May 17, 1927, in Westover, daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Jane Mounts Shepherd. She graduated from Morgantown High School, Morgantown Career College and Church Home Nursing College in Baltimore. She and her husband, the late Daniel Fortney, operated Fortney's Mobile Home Sales in Morgantown before moving to Hagerstown in 1955. She was active in many community organizations. She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Denise and William Pennington, of Hagerstown; three granddaughters, Meghan, Katherine and Carter Pennington; a stepgranddaughter, Elizabeth Pennington, of Los Angeles; two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Fortney, of Dallas, and Daniel Fortney, of Martinsburg; and four brothers, James Shepherd, of Morgantown, Paul Shepherd, of Orange, Va., Richard Shepherd, of Westover, and William Shepherd, of Daytona Beach, Fla. Service will be at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, with the Rev. Stuart Dunnan officiating and the Rev. Patrick Pearse assisting. Arnett Lee Root
Arnett Lee Root, 92, of Mannington, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the Arbors at Fairmont. He was born April 3, 1909, in Lost Creek, son of the late John and Rosalee Williams Root. He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Co., Rachel Mine. He worked in the mines for 51 years. He was a member of the Mannington Moose Lodge 1344, the Mannington Elks Lodge BPOE 388, Mannington Senior Citizens, and he enjoyed traveling and dancing. He is survived by a son, Leonard Root, of Mannington; a daughter, Shirley Mason Schilling, of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Mark Mason, of King William, Va., Kenneth Mason, of Coventery, R.I., Brenda Zickefoose, of Akron, Ohio, Jamie Root, of Mannington; nine stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and special friends, Mary and Alex Harris, of Fairmont. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Chipps Root, in 1978; a second wife, Nellie Ice Root; six brothers; and three sisters. Violet Louise Pyles
Violet Louise Pyles, 70, of Newburg, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Masontown, May 20, 1931, daughter of the late Oral and Gladys Matthew Stone. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Masontown. She is survived by three sons and spouses, Keith and Carolyn Pyles, of Granville, David Pyles, of Rochester, Pa., and Randy Pyles and Brenda Gordon, of Newburg; four daughters and spouses, Rosalee and Ronald Stone, of Kingwood, Susanna and James Stenger, of Beaver Falls, Pa., Deloris and Michael Matheny, of Westover, and Michale Pyles and Harvey Burke, of Newburg; a sister, Sharon Teets, of Reedsville; a brother, Donald Plum, of Gladesville; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Pyles; a stepmother, Dorothy Stone; and a stepfather, Rudolph Stone. Gary Randle Belmont
Gary Randle Belmont, 56, of Vantage Drive, Morgantown, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at home. He was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Camp Cook, Calif., son of the late Lloyd P. Belmont and Corliss Jones Belmont Rabe. He was a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, played the tuba professionally with New York Philharmonic in New York City and Toronto, Canada, taught music from elementary school through high school levels in Preston County, and was a private piano teacher. He was also an airline transport pilot, and taught aviation in South Dakota, New Jersey and West Virginia, and became a federal aviation examiner. He attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Morgantown, where he was a member of the choir. He was als o a former choir director in Weston and Fairmont. He was a faithful participant in the Community Monday Evening Bible Study. He was also a member of the St. John's No. 24 Masonic Lodge of Shinnston. He is survived by his wife, Alice Stansberry Belmont; three sons and spouses, George Paul Belmont, of Birmingham, Ala., Brian John and Patricia Belmont, of Denver, Colo., and Mark Richard and Alicia Belmont, of Smithville, Ohio; a daughter, Leah Stansberry, of Bethesda, Md.; a brother, Don Rabe, of Denver; two sisters, Linda Rabe, of Rapid City, S.D., and Lorna Rabe, of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren, Kristie Belmont and Hannah Belmont. Virginia Furbee, 83, of Fairmont, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born March 17, 1918, in Watson, daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel Estep Curio. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jack Furbee; a daughter and spouse, Carol Sue and William Wallace, of Fairmont; four sisters and spouses, Katherine Curio, of Fairmont, Betty and Charles Hall, of Rivesville, Geraldine and George Hall, of Fairmont, and Wanda and Dale Brooks, of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Butch Wallace, Amy Michau, Carla Covert and Macy Jaramillo; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Michau, Duncan Covert and Macy Jaramillo; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Curio. Frank Sebastian
Word has been received of the death of Frank Sebastian, 92, of Mesa, Ariz., on April 27, 2001. He was formerly of Roseville, Mich, and was born in Italy. He was a tool and die manager. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rose Laratta Sebastian, formerly of Granville; three sons, Ron, of Tennessee, Dick, of Michigan, and Bob, of Arizona; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Rose Marie Loretta Barko; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Service was in Melcher's Mission Chapel, Mesa.

Charles Galik
Word has been received of the death of Charles Galik, 87, of San Diego, formerly of Booth, who died March 27, 2001, at San Diego Hospice. He worked for San Diego County after serving 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Galik; a sister, Tatiana Galik, of Westover; a brother and spouse, George and Miriam Galik, of Hialeah, Fla.; and a half sister, Mrs. Bruce (Katherine) Gabbert Jr., of Herperia, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Galik; his mother, Elizabeth Galik Knox; his stepfather, Alex Knox; a brother, John Galik; two sisters, Helen Galik and Anna Nicholas; two brothers-in-law, George Nicholas and Bruce Gabbert Jr.; two nephews, J.C. Nicholas and Craig Nelson; and a half brother and spouse, Paul and Ella Knox. Cremation was in San Diego.

Mary Kate Densmore
Mary Kate "Diddy" Coole Densmore, 72, of Mackin Street, Grafton, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at home after a long illness. She was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Grafton, daughter of the late Herman Reed and Catherine M. King Coole. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Augustine's High School, and retired as a cashier after many years of service at Gump's Foodland. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the church's Women's Guild. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Neil Densmore Sr.; three children and spouse, Neil and Nancy Densmore, of Grafton, Denise Braham, of Clarksburg, and Mary Frances Densmore, of Grafton; five grandchildren and spouse, Jody and Lisa McCartney, of Grafton, Jason Braham, of Independence, Sandy Braham, of Clarksburg, and Timothy Densmore and Leela Densmore, both of Grafton; three great-grandchildren, Madusta McCartney, Dakota McCartney and J.D. Braham; two brothers and spouse, Daniel and Jo Claire Coole, of Lake Placid, Fla., and Charles Coole, of Morgantown; and a sister, Deanne Moon of Las Cruces, N.M. She was also preceded in death by a brother, George "Sonny" Coole; and a great-grandson, Tray Allen Stemple. William S. Valentino
William S. Valentino, 72, of Clarksburg, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at home. He was born March 28, 1929, in Wheeling, son of the late Samuel and Helen Florio Valentino. He was a graduate of the WVU College of Law. He was a U.S. Army veteran and owner of Valentino Law Offices in Wheeling. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Clarksburg. He is survived by his wife, Clara Rose Valentino; two sons and spouses, Samuel Valentino and fiancee, Serena Ho, and William and Sudha Valentino; a stepdaughter and spouse, Kim and John Paugh; a stepson, Jeff Spezia; a sister, Patricia Kutsch, of Wheeling; and a granddaughter, Gina Maria Paugh. Kay Bosley Shepherd
Kay Bosley Shepherd, 61, of Hagans, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born March 19, 1940, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Thelma Stewart and Sherman Higginbotham. She was at one time employed at Morgan Manor as a nursing assistant and was a member of Hagans Christian Church. She was also a member of the Sundale Resident Council and an advocate for other residents. She is survived by three daughters and spouses, Donna M. Bosley and Floyd Tennant, of Jakes Run, Katherine and Charles Johnson, of Hagans, and Rebekah and Tony Calvert, of Morgantown; a son and spouse, Fred II and Tina Bosley, of Morgantown; a sister and spouse, Terry and Larry Brummage, of Spraggs; two brothers and spouses, Benny and Mary Ann Higginbotham, of Core, and Jimmy and Shirley Higginbotham, of Clarksburg; 10 grandchildren, Tammy and Bobby Lemley, Brian K. Margaret N. M. Menzie
Margaret Newlon Montgomery Menzie, 81, of Indiana, Pa., formerly of Tunnelton, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Beacon Manor Nursing Home, Indiana, Pa. She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Sutton, daughter of the late John and Mary Anne Byrne Newlon. She was a graduate of West Virginia University and was a substitute teacher for the Indiana County school system and taught adult education classes. A member of the Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana, she served on the Indiana Symphony Board, the Indiana Arts Council and the American Heart Association Board. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Montgomery Maier, of North Canton, Ohio; a sister, Edith Mala, of Olmstead Township, Ohio; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Langston, and a great-granddaughter, Emily Langston, both of Charlotte, N.C. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Orr Montgomery, in 1978; her second husband, William Menzie, in 2000; a grandson, Christopher Maier, in 1997; and three sisters, Frances Newlon, Dora Gainer and Mary Byrne Irvine. M. Bowman Beverly
M. Bowman Beverly, of Ravenswood, died May 21, 2001, in Camden Clark Hospital. He was an industrial engineer with Alcoa Aluminum, Kaiser Aluminum and the U.S. Postal Service in Charleston. He was a member of the board of directors of the W.Va. Symphony and a commissioner on the Jackson County Housing Authority. He was also a member of the Ripley Rotary Club and the Friendship Force and served as recorder for the city of Ravenswood for six years. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist. He was a World War II veteran. He graduated from Virginia Tech and earned a master's d egree from the University of Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Anne Dygert Beverly; a son and spouse, Robert Beverly and Cindy Hite, of Morgantown; two daughters and spouse, Anne Drummond, of Huntington and Beth and James Ashbire, of Ripley; and four grandsons, Matthew and Zachary Drummond, of Huntington and Michael and Bryan Ashbire, of Ripley. He donated his body to medical science. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston. Donations: Christ Church Memorial Fund.

Cora Ellen Sanders
Cora Ellen Sanders, 80, of Horners Run Community, Shinnston, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at home. She was born Oct. 18, 1920, in Richwood, daughter of the late John Eberly and Lula McClung Eberly Gainer. She was a homemaker and mother. She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School. She was a member of Sunrise Chapel in Fairmont. She is survived by a son and spouse, John and Florence Sanders, of Horners Run Community; two daughters and spouses, Rebecca Ellen and Jim Chelli, of Horners Run Community, and Cindy Lou and Luke Layman, of Bakersfield, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jeff Sanders, Gary Sanders, Jennifer Renee Chelli Simms, Amanda Layman and Samantha Layman; and a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Sanders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. "Buster" Sanders, whom she married Nov. 11, 1945, on July 7, 1996; a brother, Maynard Eberly; and a sister, Lilly Mae Bradley. Viola Brown
Viola Brown, 75, of Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at home. She was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Morgantown. She was a member of Cool Springs Apostolic Church since 1985. She was involved with church activities and enjoyed singing. She loved flowers and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Senior Monongalians. She is survived by her longtime friends and caretakers, Leo and Lucille Snider, of Denver, and Melissa Snider, Richard Snider, Dewayne Snider, Marsha and David Bissett and Brian Snider, all of Kingwood Pike. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton Brown, in 1977. Helen C. Pawluk, 81, of Bobtown, Pa., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown. She was born Nov. 22, 1919, at Lambert, Pa., daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Jezewksi Polosky. She worked 38 years at Macy's Department Store in New York City. She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Bobtown. She was also a member of the I-S Retail Sales Union. She is survived by a daughter, Marie Beatty, and her husband, Gene "Jiggs" Beatty, of Dilliner, Pa.; a granddaughter, Karen Stevenson, of Dilliner; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Stevenson, Jarod Stevenson, Rachel Stevenson and Megan Beatty; a brother, Thomas Polosky, of Mission, Texas; two sisters, Pauline Bartfield, of Carmel, Ind., and Eleanor Fortel, of Northfield, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Polosky, of Masontown, Pa.; and Marie Polosky, of Bobtown, Pa. Clarence E. Nicholson
Clarence E. "Nick" Nicholson, 75, of Astor Avenue, Morgantown, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born April 13, 1926, at Carolina, Marion County, son of the late Raymond and Flossy Carpenter Nicholson. He served as a U.S. Navy gunner's mate in World War II. He retired with 42 years of service from Consolidation Coal Co. He was a member of Westover United Methodist Church. He was a life member and past All State Commander of Westover VFW Post 9916, and also held memberships in the Military Order of the Cooties and American Legion Post 2. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Virginia Davis Nicholson; a son, and spouse, Raymond "Ed" and Sandy Nicholson, of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters and spouse, Nannette and Tom Burns, of Laurel Point, and Jeannie Blake, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two stepsons, Larry Haines, of Naples, Fla., and John Haines, of Morgantown; two stepdaughters and spouses, Sherry and Richard Blue, of Stonewood, and Suzzie and Ron Bane, of Morgantown; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Kenneth R. Haines. Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, with the Rev. O. Kenneth Simms officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Full military rites will be conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916, and "Taps" will be performed by a member of the Westwood Middle School band. Helen Luvetta Kester
Helen Luvetta Kester, 91, of Fairmont, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at St. Barbara's Nursing Home in Monongah. She was born Oct. 25, 1909, daughter of the late Clark and Ola Ellen Hawkinsberry Satterfield. She retired from the C&P Telephone Co. as an operator after 24 years of service. She was a former member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was Protestant and attended the Church of God. She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Digman and Arietta Jones, both of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Ruth Satterfield; three nieces and spouses, Yvonne and Gene Legg, Gene and Jon Hart, and Shirley and Howard Burton; and four nephews and spouses, Richard Jones, Ronald and Patty Satterfield, Scott and Glo Legg, and Ronald and Tonya Satterfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Kester, who died during World War II; and three brothers, Leroy Satterfield, Carroll Satterfield and Cecil Satterfield. Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon Sunday, May 27, until the 2 p.m. service, with the Rev. Scott Krepps officiating. Carol Ann Wamsley
Carol Ann Wamsley, 59, of Kingwood, formerly of Moffett, Pa., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Point Marion, Pa., daughter of Richard and Grace Ludwig Sypolt, of Point Marion, and the late Oscar Ludwig. She is survived by two daughters and spouse, Michelle Renee and Wayne Austin, and Janet Sue Wamsley, all of Kingwood; four grandchildren, Johnny Lee Lipscomb, Carol Grace Taylor, Jenna Sue Wamsley and Christina Renee Austin; a brother and spouse, Fred and Kathie Ludwig, of Navarre, Ohio; a sister and spouse, Betty Jane and Gary Grochawski, of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; a niece, Julie Ludwig, of New York City; and a nephew, Jeff Ludwig, of Navarre. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Wamsley, on June 22, 1976. Friends may call at the Louis E. Rudolph Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Point Marion, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Richard Thomas Venham
Richard Thomas Venham, 75, of Park Street, Morgantown, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at home. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Morgantown, son of the late Ray and Effie Twigg Venham. He was a retired NIOSH computer programmer and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a past master of Morgantown Union Lodge 4 and Morgantown VFW Post 548. He was a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church at Drummond Chapel. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou McGinnis Venham; three daughters and spouses, Christelle Venham, of Morgantown, Celeste and Daniel Chapman, of St. Albans, and Tia and Gilberto Alfonso, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; a sister, Norma Jean Taylor, of Morgantown; and five grandchildren, Shaun Chapman, Caitlin Chapman, Gil Alfonso, Ali Alfonso and Eli Alfonso. Graveside service will be at noon Saturday, May 26, at East Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Meadows officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Morgantown Union Post 4 and military honors will be conferred by Morgantown VFW Post 548. Laura Ashley Donham
A Going Home Memorial service for Laura Ashley Donham, 13, of Roanoke, Va., who died Thursday, May 3, 2001, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Hope Church, Hornbeck Road, Morgantown. She was born Sept. 3, 1987, in Roanoke, daughter of Jeremy A. Donham, of Morgantown, and Kimberly A. Turner Donham, of Roanoke. She was an honor student at Hidden Valley Middle School in Roanoke. When in Morgantown she loved to spend evenings with her father, watching funny videos, singing and dancing with her stepmother, playing Uno and games like hide-and-seek with her grandmother, aunts and cousins. She was especially fond of her brother Christian. She loved to write on her dad's laptop computer. She is also survived by a stepmother, Wendy Knight-Donham, of Morgantown; a brother, Christian Michael Donham, of Morgantown; grandparents, Allen and Jeanne Donham, of Morgantown, Ronald and Marilyn Turner, of Roanoke, and stepgrandparents, Dr. Roy and Susie Knight, of Grafton; and great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
