Edna Tarleton Poe, 82, of Morgantown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Mon Pointe after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 10, 1919, in Shinnston, daughter of the late Sanford H. and Nina Shuttlesworth Tarleton.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Johnsons Chapel Church.
She is survived by three sons, James E. Poe, of Oakmont, Pa., Donald Poe, of Morgantown, William Sheridan Poe, of Mount Morris, Pa.; two daughters, Mary Rose Poe, of California, Carol Sue Poe Johnson, of Morgantown; two sisters, Virginia Tarleton Fisher, of Mannington, Neioma Tarleton Nicholson, of Morgantown; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Augustus H. "June" Poe; two sons, Augustus H. Poe Jr., Robert G. Poe; a daughter, Eve Marie Poe; a brother, James Tarleton; and two sisters, Margaret Tarleton and Emeline Tarleton.

Viola Brown
Viola Brown, 75, of Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at home.
She was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Morgantown.
She was a member of Cool Springs Apostolic Church since 1985. She was involved with church activities and enjoyed singing. She loved flowers and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Senior Monongalians.
She is survived by her longtime friends and caretakers, Leo and Lucille Snider, Denver and Melissa Snider, Richard Snider, Dewayne Snider, Marsha and David Bissett and Brian Snider, all of the Kingwood Pike.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton Brown, in 1977.

Donald 'Stub' Costello
Donald Ronald "Stub" Costello, 76, of Fellowsville, Marquess Community, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at his daughter's home.
He was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Galloway, son of the late Hubert Raymond and Ida Elizabeth Garvin Costello.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II as a seaman 1st Class. He owned and operated County Mail Press in Grafton for several years, and was then employed at Merril's Print Shop in Clarksburg. After retiring, he worked as a night watchman for Larew's Auto Service. He was Catholic.
He is survived by five sons, James Costello, of Waterbury, Conn., Teddy Lee Culberson, Randall Scott Culberson, Anthony "Tony" Culberson, and Robin "Robbie" Lynn Culberson, all of Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Marjorie J. Culberson Larew, of Fellowsville; a sister, Corrine Francis Marra, of Bridgeport; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Emily Culberson; a daughter, Dianne Costello Adkins; an infant brother, James Costello; a half brother, Hubert Raymond Costello; and a sister, Betty Costello Trump.

Paul L. Barr
Paul L. Barr, 84, of Wadestown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, en route to a doctor's appointment in Blacksville.
He was born June 26, 1916, at Cross Roads, son of the late Harley and Stella Britton Barr.
He was a graduate of Fairmont State College, West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a schoolteacher for more than 50 years, having taught at Wadestown, Clay-Battelle, Daybrook and Osage, serving as principal at Wadestown for several years. He taught Sunday school for more than 60 years, and was a member and lay leader of the Wadestown United Methodist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a member of the Wadestown Crusader IOOF Lodge 422, and was a member of the Monongalia County, West Virginia and national Retired Teachers' associations. He was formerly on the board of directors at the Clay-Battelle Community Health Center.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Violet Tennant Barr; a son, David Barr, of Elkins; a daughter and spouse, Joyce and Gene Hebb, of Fairmont; three brothers and a spouse, Chester Barr, of Clarion, Pa., Frank and Hazel Barr, of Morgantown, and Jack Barr, of Sharon, Pa.; two sisters, Ethel Wilson, of Washington, Pa., and Virginia Michael, of Grove City, Pa; two sisters-in-law, Velma Barr, of Inglewood, Fla., and Rose Barr, of Woodsfield, Ohio; four grandchildren and spouses, Diana and Mark Brady, Deana and Dan Corley, Mike Hebb and Ruth Hebb; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by a son, John Pual Barr, in 1969; and two brothers, Robert Dale Barr and Stanley Barr.

Edwin Lee Core, 87, of Connellsville, Pa., died Friday May 25, 2001.
He was born June 15, 1913, in Wadestown, son of the late Martin Lloyd and Ella Mae Taylor Core.
He was a member of the Elks No. 503, in Connellsville, and the Masonic Lodge 45, in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthella Walling Core; two sons, Neal Core, of Wrightwood, Calif., and Larry Core, of Peoria, Ariz.; a daughter Jacquline Kerr, of Pittsburgh; three stepsons, Edward B. Entwisle III, of Wassilla, Alaska, Bruse Entwisle, of Pittsburgh, and Stevan Entwisle, of Thomaston, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Cararini, of New Hartford, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jesse Sarah Porter Core; and a sister, Ruth Laugh.

Emma Brown, 100, of Fields Park Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Morgantown.
She was born Jan. 25, 1901, in Pansy, daughter of the late Jacob and Ida Susan Shreve Getz.
She attended Sabraton Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. She was a former member of Rock Forge Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen Frum, of Morgantown; four sons, Robert Carl Brown, of Moundsville, Donald Lee Brown, of Birmingham, Ala., Delmar Keith Brown, of Wichita, Kan., and Gerald Ray Brown, of Old Town; a sister, Bessie Hedricks, of Cabins; three brothers, Ray Getz, of Ridgeley, Harry Getz, of Petersburg, and Olie Getz, of Keyser; and many grandchildren, including Robert Frum, Michael Frum and Ellen Shafer, all of Morgantown; and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Brown; a son, Melvin Brown; and five sisters and brothers.

Robert E. Bunner
Robert E. Bunner, 79, of Fairmont, formerly of Cleveland, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Fairmont, son of the late B. Lee and E. Ruth Meredith Bunner.
He retired from Strong-Carlisle in Cleveland as a warehouseman. Before that, he worked at the Cleveland Clinic. He grew up in the Meadowdale Community of Fairmont and graduated from East Fairmont High School. He was an active member of Janes Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a brother and spouse, Bernard A. and Freda Bunner, of Berea, Ohio; a nephew and spouse, William L. and Kay Bunner; two nieces and spouses, Judy and Albert Unwin and Nancy and Wayne Walters, all of Ohio; two uncles and a spouse, Joel Johnson, with whom he made his home, and George and Iola Meredith; an aunt, Grace Meredith; and cousins, Carol and Jim Hunt, of Fairmont.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Bunner Walters.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Janes Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Heilman officiating.

Justin Bogart Hayduk
Justin Bogart Hayduk, 18, of 462 S. Sixth St., Chambersburg, Pa., died March 10, 2001, in Morgantown.
He was born April 22, 1982, in Waynesboro, Pa., son of Mike J. and Cheryl Whitsel Hayduk, of Chambersburg.
A 2000 graduate of Chambersburg High School, he was a student at the University of Pittsburgh on an academic scholarship. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, the church's basketball team, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the National Honor Society.
He is also survived by a brother, Tyler J. Hayduk, of Chambersburg; his maternal grandmother, Joanne Lane Whitsel Michaels, of Chambersburg; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Hayduk Sr., of Port Vue, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ralph E. Whitsel.

Betty Young
Betty Louise "Granny" Young, 78, of Rivesville, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born May 17, 1923, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Icy M. and Lula Mae Hawkins Hupp.
She worked 22 years as credit manager at National Auto Store and retired after 11 years as a drapery sales clerk at the former Hartley's Department Store in Fairmont. She was a member of Agape Evangelical Methodist Church, where she was an active leader in the women's ministry of the church. She enjoyed watching women's golf on television.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Mathew Cummings, of Rivesville; three stepchildren and spouses, Fred and Carolyn Young, of Fairmont, Barbara and Marvin Davis, of Fairmont, and Rose Mary Knight, of Grafton; three grandchildren and spouses, Keith and Shirley Cummings, of Morgantown, Stephen and Ann Cummings, of Morgantown, and Jennifer and Jimmy Wilson, of Fairmont; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Cummings, Brian Cummings, Michael Bunnell, Tania Wilson and James Wilson III; seven stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. Young, in January 1965; two sons, Stephen Mathew and Ronald Mathew; six brothers, Bernard Hupp, Paul Hupp, Donald Hupp, Clair Hupp, Francis Hupp and Herbert Hupp; and a sister, Nanabelle Young.

Ethel Virginia Austin Springer, 73, Marion County Route 4, Fairmont, died May 25, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Morgantown, daughter of the late James G. and Martha Dunn Austin.
She was a homemaker and Pentecostal.
She is survived by her husband of seven years, Kenneth Springer; a sister and spouse, Phyllis and Gary Brown, of Morgantown; three brothers, Kenneth Austin and Franklin Austin, both of Warren, Ohio, and Wayne Austin, of Texas; and six nieces and seven nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ray E. Austin; and three brothers, Ira Austin, Willard Austin and Dale Austin.

She was born July 21, 1915, in Rosedale, daughter of the late Rev. William Neimon Everly and Sylvia Davis Everly Stalnaker.
She was raised by Bill and Icie Halfin in Taylortown, Pa. She was a homemaker and Baptist.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Linda Lee and Edmond Byrl Collins, of Morgantown; three grandchildren and spouses, Christopher Clay and Kathleen Collins, C. Colleen and Col. C. Kurtis Lohide and Curtis Collins; a sister, Nova Dawson Hindman, of Nutter Fort; a half sister, Della Lee Everly Zinkler, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a half brother, David Everly, of Atlanta; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E.J. Hare, in 1995; a half brother, Eldon Cowell; and a half sister, Elvie Cowell Rogan.

Playford Fowler
Playford Fowler, 90, of Sugar Maple Hill, Morgantown, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born May 13, 1911, at Over Cheat community, Morgantown.
He was a POW and was also awarded the Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was retired from Consolidation Coal Co. He was a member of United Mine Workers Local 1529. He attended Calvary United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bessie Marie Wolfe Fowler; a daughter and spouse, Patricia and John Shaffer, of Over Cheat; a grandson, John William "Johnny" Shaffer III; and a sister-in-law, Lilia Lewis, Bruceton Mills.

Jerry Allen Timbrook, 62, of Honeysuckle Hill, Morgantown, died Friday, May 25, 2001, in Morgantown.
He was born July 17, 1938, in Romney, son of the late Harry and Sarah Dawson Timbrook.
He worked in retail sales at Ace Hardware in Morgantown and later at Montgomery Ward in Morgantown, where he retired with 25 years of service. He was Methodist. He enjoyed spending time with the family pet, Scooter.
He is survived by his loved ones, Jean-Payne Timbrook, and Peter and Melissa Rene Payne, all of Morgantown; and extended family in the Romney area.

Helen L. Sharkey Core
Helen Louise Sharkey Core, 83, of Atlanta, formerly of Morgantown, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Atlanta.
She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Homestead, Pa., daughter of the late James and Ethel Painter Sharkey.
She was a lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps in France, England and Wales from 1943-1945 during World War II. She was operating room supervisor at Heiskell Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and worked in private practice with Dr. Brinley John and Dr. Lucien Strawn. She was a member of Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church (now Suncrest United Methodist) and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Drummond Chapel's Minnie Kinnan Circle and was involved in community outreach efforts. She also volunteered her nursing skills to families and individuals. She graduated first in her class and received her diploma as a registered nurse from Heiskell Memorial Hospital and completed post-graduate studies at Western Pennsylvania Hospital. She was a member of the American Red Cross Nurses Association.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Core; two daughters, Robin Core Davis, of Atlanta, and Jane Core Turner, of Ridgefield, Conn.; two grandchildren, Cory Turner and Wheatley Davis; and a sister, Bertha Campbell, of Greensboro, N.C.

Eva Marie Sanders, 96, of Aurora, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at home.
She was born Feb. 9, 1905, in Tunnelton, daughter of the late Charles W. Ashby and Mary Mitter Ashby.
She was Christian and was active in the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Society.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Adams, of Aurora, and Lois Phillips and Helen McMullen, both of Sun City Center, Fla.; a sister, Irene White, of Charleston; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond O. Sanders; four sisters, Ruth Ball, Flossie Lee, Louise Nine and Helen Silcott; and a brother, Monroe Ashby.

Evelyn Michaux Welsh
Evelyn Michaux Welsh, 79, of Footdale, Pa., died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Beverly Health Care Center, Uniontown, Pa., where she had been a resident for the past year.
She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Point Marion, Pa., daughter of the late Fernand and Lily Morris Michaux.
She was raised in Stewartstown and was a member of Point Marion Apostolic Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Wilma J. McMinn, of Morgantown, Barbara Wade, of Footdale, Pa., and Carolyn Stanley, of Waynesburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Augusta Ware, of Point Marion, Pa.; and a brother, Fred Michaux, of New Jersey.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester K. Welsh, on Sept. 14, 1978; and two sisters, Dorothy Harden and Virginia Harden.

Leora Evelyn Lacy, 71, of Wilson Street, Fairmont, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at home.
She was born April 21, 1930, in Clay County, daughter of the late James Edward and Celia Shamblen Starcher.
She was Protestant and was a former employee of Garden Fresh in Fairmont, with 25 years of service. She was part-owner of Granny's Kitchen in Mannington and served as a home health aide.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Lacy, of Fairmont; a son and spouse, David and Sharon Truman, of Morgantown; three daughters and spouse, Darlina K. Truman, Mary Jo Longwell, and Susan E. and Joe Saporito, all of Fairmont; a brother, Bud Starcher, of Farmington; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Starcher; and four sisters, Opal Campbell, Goldie Westfall, Gladys Davis and Hazel Lee.

Gerald Dale Eakin
Gerald Dale Eakin, 44, of Smithtown Road, Morgantown, died as a result of a hunting accident off the Boy Scout Road, Mononongalia County, on Friday, May 18, 2001.
He was born Feb. 9, 1957, son of Geraldine Eakin and Neal Eakin.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School. He was self-employed as a carpenter and a member of the Independent Hunting Club.
He is also survived by his wife of 17 years, Rita Boyce Eakin; two sons, Clayton Eakin and Matt Eakin; and two sisters, Dorinda Kibler and Donella Eakin; and his grandmother, Mabel Graham.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the accident site on the Jack Trickett property leased by IHC off of Boy Scout Road, Morgantown.
Cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Donations: the Clayton Boyce Eakin Trust Fund, Huntington National Bank, High Street location, Morgantown.
The family of Gerald Dale Eakin would like to thank all the volunteers, fire departments, search and rescue teams, specially trained dogs and horses, the American Red Cross, the State Police for the helicopter search and especially Trooper Boyle and Officer T.R. Queen, who went out of their way with suggestions and help in trying to locate Eakin. They would also like to thank family, friends and co-workers who lent support and donated food during the search.
John Lewis Hunt
John Lewis Hunt, 70, of Grafton, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Burton, son of the late Garrett and Madge Bailey Hunt.
He attended Hundred High School, graduating in 1948. He then attended WVU and the WVU College of Law, earning the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1954. He married Ann Evans, of Morgantown, in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Division from 1955-1957. After his Army service, he went to work for State Farm Insurance, where he achieved the designation of CPCU. He retired from State Farm in 1992 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Grafton City Hospital Board of Trustees and was active in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Grafton. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Grafton; a sister, Barbara Hunt Brasher, of Burton; two sons, John Matthew Hunt, of Billings, Mont., and Charles Garrett "Gary" Hunt, of Frederick, Md.; and three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Hunt Kerr.
Friends may call at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, U.S. 50 West, Grafton, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, until the 11 a.m. service, with Pastor Bert Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Burton.
Steve M. Shedlock
Steve M. "Sonny" Shedlock, 80, formerly of Wagner Road, Morgantown, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at his home in Orlando, Fla., after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Ginter, Pa., son of the late Martin and Ann Fudro Shedlock.
He was a retired mining engineer, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a graduate of Penn State University.
He is survived by his wife, Marie J. Shedlock; a daughter and spouse, Sharon and P.H. Sherrard, of Orlando, Fla.; a friend, Brenda Morgan, of Morgantown; a sister, Agnes Manning, of Ramey, Pa.; and a brother, Edward Shedlock, of Ramey, Pa.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steve M. Shedlock Jr.
Friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, with the Rev. Richard W. Fiete officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, with military graveside rites performed by Marine Corps League, Monongalia County Detachment 342.
Stephen E. Hegedis Jr.
Stephen E. Hegedis Jr., 37, of Mount Morris, Pa., died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born July 22, 1963, in Bay Village, Ohio, son of Shirley Cumpston Hegedis, of Mount Morris, Pa., and Stephen E. Hegedis Sr. and stepmother, Celesta Hegedis, of Carmichaels, Pa.
When his health permitted, he was a mechanic and drove a truck. He was a member of Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God. He was an avid fisherman.
He is also survived by two sons, Stephen E. Hegedis III and Tyler John Hegedis, both of Greensboro, Pa.; four sisters, Stephanie Guzman, of Fayetteville, N.C., Rhonda Lewellen, of Mount Morris, Pamela Gamble, of Morgantown, and Cissie Johnston, of Garards Fort, Pa.; three brothers, Randall Hegedis, of Edenborn, Pa., Thomas Simpkins, of Crucible, Pa. and Joshua Hegedis, of Carmichaels, Pa.; and his paternal grandparents, Steve and Virginia Hegedis, of Greensboro, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Helen Cumpston.
