Larry Lee Nice, 63, of Webster Avenue, Morgantown, died Wednesday May 30, 2001, at home.
He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in New Martinsville, son of Celeste Nice Copenhaver, of Piney Fork, and the late Clem Nice.
He was an engineering scientist at WVU's College of Engineering Mineral Resources. He was a member of the West Virginia Army Reserve, and First Christian Church.
He is also survived by his wife of 40 years, Retta Carol "Kay" Nice; two sons and a spouse, William Lee and Tara Nice, of Lafayette, La., and Johnathan Daniel Nice, of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Jean Ann Haught and Carol Sue Stackpole, both of Piney; a grandson, Cameron Lee Nice, of Lafayette; and a stepfather, Paul Copenhaver, of Piney Fork.

Foster Wheeler
Foster Wheeler, 93, of Sherwood Street, Star City, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at home.
He was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Cascade, son of the late Russell and Molly Phillips Wheeler.
He was retired from Sterling Faucet after 21 years of service, and the Maiden Mine after 20 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA, and the steel workers. He served on the Star City Town Council and on the Planning Commission. He was a graduate of Masontown High School, Preston County. He loved hunting, gardening and working in his shop.
He is survived by a daughter, Anna Rae Ruckman, of Morgantown; a sister, Carrie Rohr, of Arthurdale; four granddaughters and spouses, Cheryl and Dan Martinelli, Lynn Ann W. and John Clawges, Suzanne and Vince Nowell, and Deirdre and Allen Appel; and five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Vanaman, J.D. Clawges III, Riley Nowel, Reagan Nowell, and Spencer Nowell.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Stella Wheeler; a son, Russell S. Wheeler; a brother, Walter Wheeler; and two sisters, Hazel Luzader, and Ruth Glash.

George W. Whoolery
George W. Whoolery, 78, of Washington Street, Paden City, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born April 4, 1923, in Uniontown, Pa., son of the late Francis and Grace Vansickle Whoolery.
He was a retired employee of The Ormet Corp., Hannibal, Ohio. He belonged to the Wetzel Lodge 39 AF&AM of New Martinsville, and was a member of the American Legion Post 86 of Paden City, Order of the Moose Lodge 931, of New Martinsville, and VFW Post 632 7, of Sistersville. He also was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Paden City, and was a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Huffman Whoolery; a son, Rickie George Whoolery, of Wheeling; a daughter, Sandra Kay Martynec, of Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Susan Gilbert, of Paden City; a sister, Garnett Dodd, of Burbank, Calif.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty T. Whoolery, in 1991; and three sisters, Elsie Jean Hare, Evelyn McCormick and Bethel Whoolery.

Donald E. Boylan
Donald E. Boylan, 76, of Huntington, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Newburg, son of the late Meredith and Marguerite Boylan.
He was a retired district manager for GMAC. He had also been administrator of Tom C. Smith Medical Center, Chesapeake; managing partner of Glockner Oil, Charleston, and a founding member of Esquire Golf Course, where he was serving as director and vice president-secretary.
He was a graduate of Grafton High School and a 1949 graduate of West Virginia University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, WVU Emeritus Club, The Men's Club of Our Lady of Fatima, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and was a life member of BPOE 313 Elks, where he was Past Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Wolfe Boylan; two daughters and spouses, Donna and Bob Hassell, of Shrewsbury, N.J., and Peggy and Donn Feyche, of West Chester, Ohio; two sons and spouses, Dr. Mark and Teresa Boylan, of Mount Dora, Fla., and David and Lynrae Boylan, of Gonzales, La.; two brothers and spouses, Kenneth and Bernita Boylan, of Grafton, and Clifford and Frances Boylan, of St. Louis; and 13 grandchildren.

Nona Olive Faulkner
Nona Olive Faulkner, 87, of East Grafton Road, Fairmont, and Eastview Apartments, Fairmont, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Wishing Well Health Center, Fairmont.
She was born May 1, 1914, in Hagans, daughter of the late Burl and Nona Yost Shuman.
She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, and owner and operator of Hilltop Grocery.
She is survived by two sons and spouses, Burl and Sharon Faulkner, of Springfield, Mo., and Marvin and Rosemary Faulkner, of Fairmont; two daughters and a spouse, Alberta and Alfred Rudy, of Fairmont, and Sharon Sivak, of Fairmont; nine grandchildren, Christina Long, Tammy, Phillip, and Scott Faulkner, Liza Bragger, Shawn Rudy, Laura Garlow, Amanda Mugnano, and Sherry Sivak; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hayward Faulkner; and two brothers, Harold and Robert Faulkner.

Preston County businessman Donald Foster Frazee, 64, of Hazelton and formerly of Friendsville, Md., died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Stacy Roberts
Stacy Roberts, 93, of Route 1, Metz, Earnshaw community, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in New Martinsville Health Care Center.
He was born April 8, 1908, near Hundred, son of the late John Roberts and Catherine Barr Roberts.
He was a farmer and he attended Earnshaw Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II and was wounded while serving in Europe.
He is survived by a sister, Bessie Gayle Cosgray, of Burton; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Skinner, of Morgantown; and stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Opal K. Roberts; three brothers, Arvel Roberts, Walter Roberts and Odis Roberts; and five sisters, Amy Cosgray, Lizzie Kirkpatrick, Hazel Roberts, Doshia Cox and Mabel Rush.

Janet Wiltrout
Word has been received of the death of Janet Elisbeth Matheson Wiltrout, 69, of Port Allegany, Pa., formerly of Rock Lake, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
She was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Denver, daughter of Jack Norman Matheson and Virginia Stirling Hughes.
After graduating magna cum laude from West Virginia University in 1953, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and studied in France for one year. Upon her return, she married William Wayne Wiltrout on July 31, 1954, and drove to Alaska on her honeymoon. The couple taught in the Anchorage School District from 1954-1957, when they returned to graduate school at WVU. After receiving their master's degrees, they returned to Alaska to teach in Homer from 1959-1963, during which time their two daughters were born. In 1963, the Wiltrouts moved to Anchorage, where she taught English, French and Spanish at Romig Junior High School for 17 years, until retiring in 1979. In 1984, they moved to Homer, where they lived until the summer of 1998, when health concerns prompted their move back East to be closer to their daughter, Kristin, who is a nurse.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Wiltrout; two daughters, Kristin L. Walker, of Charlottesville, Va., and Kerrie L. Fraser, of American Fork, Utah; three grandchildren, Jan William Fraser, Lauren Elise Walker and Daniel Paul Walker; and a brother, Jack N. Matheson Jr., of Birmingham, Ala.
A memorial service was held April 28, in Port Allegany. Burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage.
Barbara T. Milovich
Barbara T. Milovich, 92, of Jere, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 26, 1908, in Yugoslavia, daughter of the late Steve and Mary Verbonic.
She was a retired housekeeper and former member of St. Ursula's Catholic Church.
She is survived by four daughters and spouses: Eva L. and Nicholas Rabagia, of Westover, Mary H. and Joseph Vasil, of Cassville, Anna B. Woods, of Morgantown, and Ilene Milovich, of Jere; eight grandchildren, Michael Woods, Barbara St. John, Nick Rabagia, Ronald Rabagia, Daniel Rabagia, James Vasil, John Vasil and Mary Jo Vasil; nine great-grandchildren, Andrea Woods, Amanda Nieves, Marcie Rabagia, Kevin Rabagia, Amy Rabagia, Anthony Rabagia, Jerad Vasil, Jamee Vasil and Michael Rabagia; and a great-great-granddaughter, Liana Nieves.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Michael Joseph Milovich, in 1950; two daughters, Irene Milovich and Barbara Milovich; a brother, Michael Verbonic; and a sister, Magdelena Badzek.

James Victor Tatterson
James Victor Tatterson, 83, of Fairmont, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born March 4, 1918, in Fairmont, son of the late Phillip and Pearl Satterfield Tatterson.
He was a welder for the Iron Workers Union and built coal tipples. He was last employed with Industrial Engineers in Fairmont. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Fairmont. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters and spouses, Shirley and Allen Cole, of Fairmont, and Jean and Edwin Jenkins, of Morgantown; three grandchildren and spouses, Jimmy and Debbie Ferguson, of Fairmont, Crystal and Tim Reynolds, of Terra Alta, and Mark and Sheila Jenkins, of Bruceton Mills; five great-grandchildren, Jamie and Rikki Ferguson, Holli and Brooke Reynolds, and Caleb Jenkins; and three sisters-in-law, Mary, Maxine and Freda Tatterson.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Estella Schmidt Tatterson; three brothers, Paul, Edward and Robert Tatterson; and two grandchildren, Vikki and Rikki Ferguson.

Wanda Lee Ball Miller
Wanda Lee Ball Miller, 76, of Grafton, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Grafton, daughter of the late William and Ethel Taylor Ball.
She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Grafton, the Taylor County American Legion Post 12, and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 3081 of Grafton.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Judy and James Barcus, of Grafton; two sons and spouse, Terry Lee and Victoria Miller, of Flower Mound, Texas, and Timmothy "Tim" Brian Miller, of Grafton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Ruth Taylor, of Grafton.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Miller; and two sisters, Betty Jean Ball and an infant sister.

Lois Lee Loughery, 64, of Fairmont, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at home.
She was born July 28, 1936, in Pricedale, Pa., daughter of the late O.R. and Pearl Wolfe Hixenbaugh.
She was a homemaker and last worked for Nickles Bakery Thrift Store in Fairmont. She also worked as a custodian at Cheat Lake Junior High School. She graduated from Point Marion High School in 1955 and attended the Rivesville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and growing flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Harry David Loughery; four sons and spouses, Donald and Roxanne Loughery, of Bunner Ridge, and Frank, Phillip and Darlene, and David and Pam Loughery, all of Fairmont; three daughters, Roxanne Smith, of Rivesville, Laurel Loughery, of Fairmont, and Kim Loughery, of Slippery Rock, Pa.; four brothers and spouses, Richard and Louise Hixenbaugh, of Uniondale, N.Y., James and Evelyn Hixenbaugh, of Harrisburg, Pa., Donald and Paulette Hixenbaugh, of Akron, Ohio, and Ronald Hixenbaugh, of Lake Lynn, Pa.; three sisters, Sylvia Mankins, of Lake Lynn, Pa., Gladys Spacht, of Monroeville, Pa., and Doris Victor, of Morgantown; 10 grandchildren, Elyssa Hibbs, Amy Gereau, Ashley, Brandon, Brittney, Zachery and Allie Loughery, and B.J., Kyle and Travis Smith; and a great-grandson, Nathan Gereau.

Mary F. Garland, 74, of Louise Avenue, Morgantown, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Flemington, daughter of the late Michael and Antoinette Marullo Girimonti.
She was a member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church. She was formerly employed with Farmers and Merchants Bank and also One Valley Bank. She was a member of the Domiciles Homemakers Club.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Curtis Gregg and Roxanne Garland, of Point Marion, Pa.; a daughter and spouse, Sue Anna and Thomas Edward Black, of San Dimas, Calif.; a sister, Janice Ciampa, of Montgomery; two brothers, Frank Girimonti, of Charlton Heights, and John Girimonti, of South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Black, Meredith Black, Ryan Black, Bryant Garland and Derek Garland.

She was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Reedsville.
She was formerly employed by West Virginia University in the dietetic department.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Virginia Johnson and Blake Wolfe, of Point Marion; two sons, Willard Ellifritz Jr., of Kingwood, and Kevin Ellifritz, of Masontown, Pa.; a daughter, Karen Hood, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Roy Johnson, of Masontown, W.Va., and Charles Johnson, of Point Marion; and a sister, Louise Schuylnick, of Pittsburgh.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry L. Johnson; and a daughter, Sharon Helms.

She was born July 19, 1945, in Cumberland, Md., daughter of Wilda Mae Sago, of Wadestown, and the late Kelly J. Sine.
She is also survived by her husband, John Eugene Tuttle; a son and spouse, Kirk Lee and Michelle Tuttle, of Daybrook; a daughter and spouse, Nicole Irene and Gary Wayne Berkshire, of Wadestown; four brothers and spouses, Larry Delmore Sine, Benjamin Alvi* and Sheila Sine, and Edward Kyle and Mertle Sine, all of Fairview, and Kelly "David" and Marion Sine, of Wana; a stepfather, Anthony Sago Jr., of Wadestown; three stepbrothers, Anthony G. Nellie Etta Correll, 85, of Morgantown, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Oakland, Md., daughter of the late Della Frantz.
She had worked at the Morgantown and Seneca Glass factories as a carry-in person.
She is survived by a son, Warren Frantz, of Morgantown; a nephew, Bill Correll, of Westover; and her caretaker, Cheryl Soto.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Correll.
Service will be at a later date at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown. Waldeck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Elizabeth Brewer, 86, of Arthurdale, died Monday, June 4, 2001.
She was born July 15, 1914, in Hardy, Ark., daughter of the late William Achilles and Roma Letha (Cross) Miller.
She was a member of the Masontown Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters and two spouses, Mary and Gene Cogar, of Arthurdale, Mical Georgius, and Grace and Steve Anderson, all of Sparks, Nev., and Edith Pool, of Kennesaw, Ga.; an adopted daughter, Lee Ritneour, of Orwell, Ohio; a sister, Ruby Miller, of Steelville, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Michael Brewer; a sister and spouse, Ethel and Arnold Theobold; a brother and spouse, Cyrus and Linda Miller; a sister, Claire McEllry; and an adopted son, Dee William Meed.

Lois Lenore Larew Hall, 86, of Richwood, formerly of Rowlesburg, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Nicholas County Health Care Center, Richwood.
She was born March 28, 1915, in Newburg, daughter of the late Allen and Lola Franz Larew.
She was a member of Newburg Chapter 143 Order of Eastern Star, and the Newburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Richard Franz, of Frostproof, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Perrine, of Richwood.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Hall; and five sisters.

F. Trafford Hubert
SEATTLE -- F. Trafford ''Traff'' Hubert, who played bass with the Cecil Young Quartet in the early years of bebop jazz, died May 24 of cancer. He was 74.
Hubert, a native of Puyallup, was the last surviving member of the quartet. He joined Young's fast-paced group in 1950.
The quartet played such jazz clubs as Birdland in New York, the Blue Note in Chicago and the Hi-Hat in Boston.
After the quartet broke up, Hubert continued to play with various groups and worked as a record sales representative. In the 1980s he hosted ''Traff's Trip,'' a local radio jazz show.
At the time of his death, Hubert was a recovering alcoholic in his 18th year of being clean and sober, a fact he wanted included in his obituary.
A memorial jam session is scheduled for June 10 at the Seattle Labor Temple.
Abe Silverstein
CLEVELAND -- Abe Silverstein, a pioneer in space research who came up with the name Apollo for the missions that put the first man on the moon, died Friday at age 92.
Silverstein was director of the NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland from 1961 to 1969. He also directed efforts leading to the Mercury space flights while working for NASA's predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
Tennyson Schad
NEW YORK -- Tennyson Schad, a lawyer whose photography gallery was the commercial showcase for modern photographers in the 1970s, died May 26 of cancer. He was 70.
Schad, a First Amendment lawyer, opened Light Gallery in November 1971. It became the training ground for a large number of today's gallery directors.
Light closed in 1987, with the Schads dealing privately from their home.
Born in Larchmont, N.Y., Schad graduated from Williams College and New York University Law School and worked as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
While he was associate editorial counsel at Time Inc., from 1962 to 1969, he developed a passion for photography, and opened the gallery.
For the last 30 years, he worked as outside counsel for Forbes magazine.
R.G. Smith
LOS ANGELES -- R.G. Smith, an artist best known for his work depicting scenes of fighter planes in combat, died Tuesday of complications from a Parkinson's-related disease. He was 87.
Smith, a former aviation engineer, created 2,000 paintings and drawings over five decades. His artwork has been displayed at the Pentagon; the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Fla.; the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio; on numerous military bases and on thousands of Navy recruitment posters.
Robert Grant Smith studied at Polytechnic College of Engineering in Oakland and was hired in 1936 as a blueprint trimmer at Douglas Aircraft. He eventually became an engineer and helped design Navy tactical planes, including the SBD Dauntless, AD Skyraider and the A-4D Skyhawk.
Aeronautics pioneer Jack Northrup noticed a gun turret drawing that Smith made in his spare time and soon had Smith creating other drawings that were used in marketing and promotion of Douglas' military and commercial aircraft.
Smith was barred from enlisting in World War II because his art work was deemed vital to the war effort.
Three decades later, he toured Vietnam as a sketch artist with river patrols along the Mekong Delta and carrier operations at the Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Gene Woodling
AKRON, Ohio -- Gene Woodling, a key outfielder on the New York Yankees' teams that won the World Series from 1949-53, died Saturday at age 78.
Woodling hit .318 as the Yankees won a record five straight championships. He scored 21 runs in 26 World Series games.
Woodling hit .284 with 147 home runs in a 17-year career that started with Cleveland in 1943. He later played for Pittsburgh, the Yankees, Baltimore and Washington before finishing with the expansion 1962 New York Mets.
Woodling's home run in Game 7 of the 1952 World Series helped the Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers. He earned the nickname ''Old Faithful'' from Yankees' announcer Mel Allen because of his timely hitting.
