Earl Francis VanGilder Sr., 76, of Fairmont, Winfred community, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born April 14, 1925, at Enterprise, son of the late Rev. L. and Nona Pearl VanGilder.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a construction worker and retired in 1987 from Local 379 AFL-CIO in Morgantown. He was known around Fairmont as the "Hubcap Man."
He is survived by a son, Earl "Toby" F. VanGilder Jr., of Winfeld; two grandsons, Buddy Allen VanGilder and Jeffery Scott VanGilder, both of Winfeld; two brothers and spouses, Harry Lee and Patricia VanGilder, of Piney Run Community, and Edwin E. "Bud" and Jeanette VanGilder, of Meadowdale community; three sisters and spouses, Marjorie Potesta, of Fairmont, Emma Colleen and John Fimple, of Albright, and Cora B. and John Lynden Morris, of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Shipp Pitzer; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Shipp and Leroy Junior Shipp, both of Thornton.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Leona Merle Shipp VanGilder, on March 23, 1993; five brothers, Leonard Ralph VanGilder, C. Everett VanGilder, John Fletcher VanGilder, Clarence Leo VanGilder and Jessie George VanGilder.

Hazel 'Little' Sanders
Hazel A. "Little" Sanders, 76, of Valley Point, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at home, after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Monongalia County, daughter of the late Bryan A. and Myrtle DeWitt Little.
She was a retired housekeeper, and had worked for many years for the following families in Morgantown: Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Corner, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Laidley, Mr. and Mrs. Harlen Selby, Thelma Boyers, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lynch Jr. She was Pentacostal.
She is survived by a son and spouse, Bryan "Tab" and Barbara Sanders, of Honey Brook, Pa.; a daughter and spouse, Connie and Arlen McClure, with whom she lived; a brother and spouse, Brown and Shirley Little, of Flint, Mich.; a sister and spouse, Evelyn and Dick Salisbury, of Morgantown; three granddaughters and spouses, Shawn and Steve Gillum, of Maidesville, Tara Lynn and Aaron Kishbaugh, of West Windsor, Vt., and Meghann and Nelson Horst, of Broadway, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Holly Gillum; a niece; and five nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sanders; a son, Jim Sanders; and a sister, Gertie Smith.
Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Harry Yeager
Harry Junior "Slim" Yeager, 75, of Laurel Point, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 17, 1926, at Laurel Point, son of the late Floyd and Minnie Kincaid Yeager.
He served in Okinawa with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He worked 28 years at Morgantown Battery Co. In 1993, he retired from the city of Morgantown maintenance department with 19 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Argyle Mae Nicholson Yeager; a niece, Mary Lou Savage, with whom Mrs. Yeager made her home in Bruceton Mills; a son, James Yeager, and his companion, Wanda Radabaugh, of Kingwood Pike; a stepdaughter and spouse, Carol and Lee Radadaugh, of Elyria, Ohio; a sister, Bertha Stansberry, of Toms Run; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Beverly Cumberledge, 66, of Sancho community, Burton, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1934, at Bristoria, Pa., daughter of the late Howard Anderson and Lena Whipkey Anderson Hennen.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a receptionist in a beauty shop in Canal Fulton, Ohio. She was a Protestant.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Garold Cumberledge; a son and spouse, Stephen R. and Becky Cumberledge, of Canal Fulton; a daughter and spouse, Connie and Bert Burtan, of Canton, Ohio; a brother, Ralph Anderson, of New Freeport, Pa.; three sisters, Helen Reed and Marsha Sterling, both of New Freeport, and Frances Anderson, of Carmichaels, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Anderson; and a grandson, Seth McDougal.

Arlie Quentin Ryan
Arlie Quentin Ryan, 88, of Kingwood, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born July 20, 1912, near Pisgah, son of the late Harry and Emma Everly Ryan.
He worked for Englehart Woolen Mills and retired from Albright National Bank with 20 years of service. He was an avid gardener and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He attended Valley Point United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Smith Ryan; a daughter, Dolores Ryan, of Kingwood; and a sister, Mary Ryan, of Pisgah.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Ryan and Gilbert Ryan; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ryan and Mildred Fresh.

Hazel L. Hibbs, 95, of Fairmont, Bellview community, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Littleton, daughter of the late William and Alberta Freeland Garrison.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and baking. She was Protestant.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Marlene and Louie Martello, with whom she made her home; a son and spouse, David and Velma Hibbs, of Warren, Ohio; a sister, Marie Curry, of Warren; five grandchildren, Merrill G. Hibbs, Kelly F. Hibbs, Tracey C. Hibbs Cheuvront, Penny L. Hibbs and Sharon K. Hibbs; four stepgrandsons, Thomas Eddy, Kerry Eddy, Robert Eddy and Dane Bryant; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Leslie Hibbs, on Oct. 22, 1977; a son, Merrill Hibbs; four brothers; and four sisters.

Dorsey Blaine Davis
Dorsey Blaine Davis, 85, of Grafton, Blueville Community, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh.
He was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Preston County, Sinclair Community, son of the late Dallas R. and Nellie E. Murray Davis.
He enjoyed a lifetime of farming. He was a sawmill operator and retired truck driver, having been employed at Jennings Coal Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, European Theater. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 24, and a member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 of Grafton.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Jean Stemple Davis, whom he married Feb. 22, 1944; two children and a spouse, Dorsey B. Davis Jr., and Sandy and Richard Pinnell, all of Grafton; five grandchildren, Jimmy B. Davis, Donna J. Davis Shahan, Carson Hunter Davis, Rachael Ann Davis, and Linda Marie Pinnell; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald J. Davis, of Kingwood, and Harold J. Davis, of Thornton; and a sister and spouse, Patty and Perry Layton, of Sunbury, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Paul Davis; three sisters, Hildred Nicodemus, Dorothy Coffman, and Kathleen Sewock; and two nephews, Dick Davis, and Mark Sewock.

Shirley Wright Herring, 64, of Bruceton Mills, died Monday, June 4, 2001, in her son and his spouse's home.
She was born Aug. 21, 1936, in Bruceton Mills, daughter of the late Russell A. and Loretta May Spindler Smith.
She was a member and deaconess of the Shady Grove Church of the Brethren, a member of the Bruceton Cemetery Association, Bruceton-Brandonville Historical Society, and the Woodmen of the World Lodge 226, where she held various offices.
She is survive by a son and spouse, James E. and Lourie Wright II, of Bruceton Mills; a daughter and spouse, Darla Keefer and Tony Messersmith, of Indian Head, Md.; a stepson and spouse, Lance and Michele Herring, of Bruceton Mills; a stepdaughter and spouse, Kathy and Larry Shillingburg, of Bruceton Mills; three grandchildren, Gary Keefer, and Allison and Asa Wright; five stepgrandchildren, Zachary, Casey and Carly Herring, Daniel Smith, and Brittany and Joshua Shillingburg; her father and mother-in-law, Glen and Rozena Herring, of Bruceton Mills; a sister-in-law and spouse, Opal and Glen Beeghly, of Bruceton; and friends Leonard and Agnes Porter, of Seville, Ohio.

Marie Garrison, 92, of Rush Run community, Burton, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 4, 1909, at Hundred, daughter of the late Morgan and Rebecca Braden Poland.
She was a homemaker and member of the Rush Run United Methodist Church. She was the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by three sons and spouses, Bobby Joe and Jean Garrison and Alfred and Sue Garrison, all of Burton, and Gary and Linda Garrison, of Hundred; a daughter and spouse, Loretta and Forrest Cooper, of Apollo, Pa.; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Milton A. "Doc" Garrison, on Aug. 10, 1971; a son, Harold W. Garrison; five sisters, Anna Pethtel, Pearl Poland, Minnie Snyder, Frances Little and Eliza Hoge; and four brothers, Harry Poland, Oscar Poland, Charles Poland and Lawrence Poland.

Gladys Hartman Boyers
Gladys Barbara Hartman Boyers, 82, of R.D. 1, Mount Morris, Pa., died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Morgantown, daughter of the late George F.C. and Myrtle Sarah Cunningham Hartman.
She was a member of Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, and a member of the Women Ministries of the church. She was a cook at West Virginia University for several years, until her retirement. She was an avid cook for the community.
She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Barbara E. and James M. Strosnider, of St. Louis, and Ruth A. and G. Russell Haines, of Mount Morris; a son and spouse, A. William "Bill" and Pat Boyers, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; a sister, Daisy Gamble Lancaster, of Mount Morris; two brothers, Lonnie L. Hartman Sr., of Morgantown, and John W. Hartman, of Mount Morris; 10 grandchildren, Charlotte Pyle, Kim Sanders, Ted Kiger, Rayvena Thompson, the Rev. Paul Strosnider, Jamieson Banman, Jeff Boyers, Lisa Moody, Angie Stafford, and Richie Petty; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Boyers, whom she married Aug. 31, 1940, on April 16, 1990; and a brother, George F. Hartman.

Stella Sokolosky, 86, of Rachel, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born May 6, 1915, in Scranton, Pa., daughter of the late Alex and Amillia Contraski.
She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Michael, of Rachel, and Betty Bailey, of Cleveland; three grandchildren and spouses, Ernie and Nancy Michael, and Mark and Theresa Michael, all of Mannington, and Rachelle and Rod Jacques, of Fairmont; four great-grandchildren, Shane and Kayla Michael, Robbie Michael, and April Fittro; and a sister, Jennie Urish, of Mount Clare.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Steve Sokolosky, on May 28, 1985; several sisters; and a brother.

Charles N. Kirkpatrick, 70, of North Pike Street, Grafton, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Grafton, son of the late John Harold and Ruby M. Wolfe Kirkpatrick.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired electrician at CSX Railroad of Grafton, with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Blueville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Cole Kirkpatrick, whom he married Jan. 26, 1952; three children and two spouses, Charles R. "Rick" and Pam Kirkpatrick, of Grafton, Joyce Diane and Scott Thomas Satterfield, of Parkersburg, and Thomas Harold Kirkpatrick, of Grafton; six grandchildren and spouses, Kristen and Jamie Seargeant, of Grafton, David Jr. and Trina Satterfield, of Spencer, Heather and Scott Carl, of Mount Morris, Pa., Charles "Chris" Satterfield, of Fort Stewart, Ga., Ryan Scott Kirkpatrick, of Grafton, and Amber Nicole Kirkpatrick, of Grafton; a great-granddaughter, Kurrie Augusta Seargeant; two sisters, Mrs. George (Mary Jane) Krieger, of Potomac, Md., and Mrs. Betty Rhodes, of Cambridge Springs, Pa.; and a mother-in-law, Frances W. Wilbert Irving Rice
Wilbert Irving Rice, 79, of Rockville, Md., formerly of Point Marion, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Brownsville Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Point Marion, son of the late Irving E. and Erma L. Jennart Rice Jr.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Point Marion, a 1940 graduate of Point Marion High School, and attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later worked as a shift foreman at Houze Glass, in Point Marion. He retired from the Montgomery County Police Department in Rockville on Dec. 30, 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dessie Willis Rice, whom he married Nov. 7, 1941; two daughters, Karen Seiberlich, of Venice, Fla., and Rhonda Rice, of Laurel, Md.; a grandson, Erik Seiberlich, of Charlotte, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Warren M. Rice, on May 31, 1999.

Leona A. Hartley
Leona A. Hartley, 65, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born June 17, 1935, in Palmer, Fayette County, Pa., daughter of the late Paul A. and Margaret Moore Clemsic.
She was a 1953 graduate of German Township High School and was nominated to the "Who's Who Among Young American Women." She had lived in Carmichaels since 1953. She was a former member of Carmichaels Women's Civic Club, and had worked part time for Carmichaels Floral and later at Hoge's Mobile Home Village and Sales, Carmichaels.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels, where she was active in the adult choir until her recent illness. For several years, she was the children's choir director and was active with the Vacation Bible School's music department. She volunteered with the United Methodist Food Bank when her health permitted.
Before joining First United Methodist, she was choir director for the former New Providence (Glades) Presbyterian Church and the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, Carmichaels. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the gospel trio "Collage."
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Gary (Beverly J.) Wilson, of Borden, Ind., Mrs. Donald (Belinda J.) Baker, and Mrs. Frank (Raelene L.) Oros, both of Carmichaels, and Mrs. Richard (Rebecca A.) Bilpuh, of Grays Landing, Pa.; and eight grandchildren, Lesley Ann Williams, John Ray Wilson, Donald L. Baker II, Heather E. Baker, Ryan R. Baker, Ranelle C. Oros, Jason R. Bilpuh and Belinda "Lyndee" Bilpuh.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur L. Clemsic, in infancy; and two sisters, Martha Jane Clemsic, in infancy, and Mary Louise Guidas.

Cynthia C. White, 91, of Kingwood, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Wymer, daughter of the late Albert and Provy Hester White Hedrick.
She was a homemaker and Methodist.
She is survived by a daughter, Tressie Nicola, of Elyria, Ohio; a sister, Mary Lucille Rhoades, of Hambleton; 13 grandchildren, Marshall Cobun, Randy Cobun, David Cobun, Linda Susan Flood, Arveta Nicola, Barbara Bauer, Robert Nicola, Kathy Dudjiak, Gary White, Jack White, Ed White, Shirley White and Sharon Kimmich; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard White; a son, Albert White; a daughter, Waneda Cobun; an infant daughter, Lucy White; and a brother, Casper Hedrick.

Gary Allen Kerns, 53, of Granville, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Denver.
He was born Nov. 6, 1947, in Morgantown, son of Mary Hill Kerns of Granville and the late Lloyd Kerns.
He was a retired Monongalia County bus driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is also survived by his wife, Cora Bone Kerns; four sons, Gary Allen Kerns Jr., of Morrisville, N.C., Noel Joseph Kerns, of Westover, James Allen Kerns, of Durham, N.C., and Ronald Ray Kerns, of Granville; two daughters, Martha Kerns and Mellisa Kerns, both of Morgantown; a brother, David Lee Kerns, of Granville; a sister, Janet Sue Bowser, of Granville; two grandchildren, Maryssa and Dylan Kerns, both of Morrisville; and a niece, Ashley Bowser, of Granville.

Porter Lose
Porter Junior Lose, 70, of Bruceton Mills, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Clifton Mills, son of the late Porter C. and Julia Marie Sabo Lose.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ethel Mae Fike Lose, of Bruceton Mills; three daughters and spouses, Donna and Larry Harris, of Albright, Carol and Randy Kelly, of Bruceton Mills, and Sandra and Jeffrey Black, of Bruceton Mills; two brothers, William H. Lose, of Bruceton Mills, and Robert S. Lose, of Morgantown; three sisters, Mabel Thomas, of Saegertown, Pa., Rita Armentrout, of Harrisburg, Va., and Henrietta Lose, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and spouses, Tony and Ange Harris, Timothy and Julie Kelly, T.J. Kelly, Monica Black and Ashley Black; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylyn Harris.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Melvin Ray Lose, in 1953; and two sisters, Beulah Smalley and Florence Seese.
Friends may call at Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville, from 4-9 p.m. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, with members of the Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Valley Cemetery, Bruceton Mills.
Sister Regina Storch
Sister Regina Storch, a Roman Catholic nun who served parishes in West Virginia for 67 years, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born in Tridelphia, daughter of the late John G. and Mary Bott Storch.
She attended St. Vincent de Paul School in Elm Grove and was a 1934 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Wheeling. That same year she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph and began her outreach ministry across the state, helping manage and staff food banks of parishes she served. She maintained St. Joseph's House of Studies in Washington, D.C., for sisters attending Catholic University of America. She also served as a pastoral associate at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Morgantown, where she was know* for her work with shut-ins, and the flowers and plants she grew to help beautify the church and its surroundings.
She is survived by a sister, Regina Storch Griffith, of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Charles Griffith, of North Carolina; two nieces, Mary Ann Newman, of Wheeling, and Betsy Masters, of North Carolina; two nephews, John W. Frohnapfel, of Lancaster, Ohio, and Jerry Frohnapfel, of Wheeling; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and several friends from the parishes she served across the state.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Cecilia Storch Frohnapfel, and Sister Mary Lois Storch, also a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Friends may call from 1:30-9 p.m. Monday at Mount St. Joseph, 137 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, where a vigil will be at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, in the Mount St. Joseph Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Buckius as celebrant. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Wheeling, is in charge of arrangements.

Jackie Boyce
Jackie Dean "J.D." Boyce, 53, of Fairmont, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg.
He was born Oct. 11, 1947, in Fairmont, son of the late Hiram and Gladys Shaffer Boyce.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was Methodist. He worked as a security guard at Fairmont General Hospital and was also the owner and operator of JB's Lawn Mower Service. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed raccoon hunting, turkey shoots and four-wheeling.
He is survived by his best friend and companion, Yvonne Lepock, of Fairmont; a daughter, Tabitha Roupe, of Fairmont; three brothers and spouses, Robert Boyce, of Fairmont, David and Lori Boyce, of Maryland, and H. Douglas and Sally Boyce, of Rivesville; a sister and spouse, Sharon and Chuck Rogers-Moody, of Fairmont; a granddaughter, Cheynea Roupe, of Fairmont; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also considered an "honorary grandfather" to Brynn Lepock, Stevie Lepock, Elijah Posey and Exavier Posey.
Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, until the 2 p.m. service, with the Rev. William L. Coffindaffer officiating. Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by the Marion County Military Honor Guard. Burial will be at Vincent Cemetery, East Grafton Road.
Robert L. Decker
Robert L. Decker, 74, of Reedsville, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Sand Fork, son of the late Harry G. and Floy B. Decker.
He was a professor emeritus of industrial and labor relations at West Virginia University. He received his bachelor's in psychology from WVU in 1948, a master's in psychology from WVU in 1949, and a doctorate in industrial psychology from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1953. He was employed by Procter & Gamble Co. from 1952 to 1955 as a general production foreman, industrial relations researcher and a college recruiter. He then returned to WVU and taught from 1955 to 1994.
While at WVU, he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in human relations, industrial psychology and industrial relations research. He was past president and secretary-treasurer of the West Virginia Psychological Association, and an Authorized Consultant to the Veterans Administration. He served as a psychological consultant to numerous organizations, including Sterling Faucet, FMC Corp., the Veterans' Affairs Hospital in Clarksburg, C&P Telephone Co. and the United Steelworkers of America.
He attended the Congreso Interamericana de Psicologia in Bogota, Colombia in 1974, where he actively participated in a Spanish-language roundtable in industrial psychology.
After retirement, he enjoyed skiing, chopping wood, cooking, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his cats, Emily and Merry Ann.
He is survived by a son, Hans Decker, of Reedsville; and two brothers, Billy D. Decker, of Kingwood, and H. Joe Decker, of Marlinton.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann Decker, on Oct. 28, 1995.
At his request, his body was donated to the Human Gift Registry. A memorial service will be planned for the summer or fall. Donations: Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520.
Grace Edwards Waters
Grace Edwards Waters, 98, of Morgantown, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Morgantown Manor Nursing Facility.
She was born Aug. 14, 1902, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Charles D. and Jeanette Ogden Edwards Parker.
She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Smock, Pa., and a member of Jones United Methodist Church of Morgantown, of which her grandfather, John Edwards, was one of the original founders.
She was a schoolteacher for 43 years. She was principal of Second Ward School and Monongahela High School, which became Westover Junior High School. She also taught at Morgantown High School for 13 years and at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., for two years.
In 1944, she was the first black woman to work in the U.S. Navy Shipyard in Statistic, in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, West Virginia Teachers Association and the American Association of Retired Persons.
During the Morgantown Bicentennial Celebration, she received the Community Development Award. She was also a member of the Recreation Commission of Monongalia County and had an active association with the American Red Cross. She was a member of the NAACP.
In 1986, she received the Suncrest Kiwanis Outstanding Service Award; in 1990, WVU Distinguished Alumnus Award, College of Human Resources and Education; WVU Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Outstanding West Virginia Woman in 1985. In 1991, WVU dedicated the Grace Edwards Waters African Studies Library.
She is survived by a host of friends and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Waters, in 1967; a sister, Lillie Mae Slaughter; and a brother, William Howard Edwards.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, at East Oak Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeremiah Jasper officiating. Donations: Jones United Methodist Church, 333 Green St., Morgantown, WV 26505. Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
