Wilfird 'Gene' Freme
Wilfird "Gene" Freme, 77, of DuPont Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Morgantown, son of the late Thomas and Florence Ciarrocchi Freme. He was a longtime electrician employed locally by Charter Engineering, Francis Engineering, Progressive Industries and Cyphert Industries. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He is survived by a son and spouse, Joseph and Judy Freme, of Cheat Lake; and two grandsons, Kristopher Matthew Freme and Craig Patrick Freme. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Letitia Pauline Freme; three brothers, Robert Freme, Joseph Freme and Anthony Freme; and two sisters, Mildred Swanson and Mary Kathern Freme. Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Friday. A Funeral Mass with Liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with the Rev. Lester William Neville
Lester "Dutch" William Neville, 90, of Fairmont, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Courtland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas. He was born March 3, 1911, in Preston County. He was a retired coal miner and had been employed at several area mines. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He attended the Church of God on Morgantown Avenue in Fairmont. He is survived by his wife, Lena Faye Hebb Neville; and three brothers-in-law and spouse, Allen Stanley Hebb, of Thomas, Charles and Christine Hebb, of Parsons, and Harry Hebb, of Stonewood. Ronald W. Hixenbaugh
Ronald Wolfe Hixenbaugh, 60, of Lake Lynn, Pa., died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Morgan Manor Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 2, 1940, at Lake Lynn, son of the late Osborne and Pearl Wolfe Hixenbaugh. He attended the Lake Lynn Community Chapel, and was formerly employed as a machinist at Quality Bit in Morgantown. He graduated from University High School and attended Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, trained in intelligence and assigned to the Pentagon under the Kennedy administration. He was well known in Lake Lynn for his beautiful garden and for sharing his garden produce. He is survived by three brothers and spouses, Richard and Louise Hixenbaugh, of Uniondale, N.Y., James and Evelyn Hixenbaugh, of Dillsburg, Pa., and Donald -- his twin brother -- and Paulette Hixenbaugh, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; three sisters, Sylvia Manki ns, of Lake Lynn, Gladys Spacht, of Monroeville, Pa., and Doris Victor, of Morgantown; and four aunts. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Hixenbaugh; and two sisters, Shirley Juretic and Lois Loughery. Friends may call at Richard R. Wilma E. Shean
Wilma E. Shean, 72, of Willey Street, Morgantown, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Forrest C. and Clara M. Ackerman Shean. She attended Suncrest United Methodist Church/Drummond Chapel Campus. She lived her entire life in Morgantown. She graduated from Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University. She worked for many years at Sears and other retail establishments. She is survived by a brother and spouse, George J. and Elinor M. Shean, of Morgantown; two nieces and a spouse, Nan S. and Thomas E. Shaffer, and Jan D. Lopreste; a great-niece, Ashliegh M. Jakeway; and two great-nephews, Sean Jakeway and Nicholas Lopreste. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Diane Beauchemin, on Dec. 2, 1968. Lucy Catherine McDonald, 96, of Summers School Road, Morgantown, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at home. She was born May 15, 1905, in Monongalia County, daughter of the late George Thomas and Elizabeth Murray. She attended Nicholson Chapel Church on Summers School Road. She and her late husband enjoyed their farm on Summers School Road for many years. She is survived by two sons and spouse, Ralph and Velma McDonald, and Lester McDonald, all of Summers School Road; four daughters and spouses, Carolyn Dalton, Sylvia Young, Joyce and James Austin, all of Summer School Road, and Juanita and Hubert Hart, of Kingwood Pike; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Russell McDonald, in 1994; two sons, Cecil McDonald and Francis McDonald; two daughters, Loretta McDonald and Clara Murray; and a grandchild, Matthew Murray. Carrie Glasscock Stutler, 80, of Cassville, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Arnettsville, daughter of the late Harry and Janie Lough Glasscock. She was retired from the Monongalia County Board of Education where she was employed as a cook at Cassville and Suncrest Junior High Schools. She is survived by a son and spouse, Robert and Ruth Wright, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Lenora Jane and Ronnie Snyder, of McCleansboro, Ill.; a sister, Georgia Liming, of Cassville; three grandchildren, Rhonda Donelson, of North Pole, Alaska, Mark Snyder, of McCleansboro, Daniel Wright, of Charleston; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Colton Donelson, of North Pole. Robert 'Blair' West
Robert "Blair" West, 70, of Browns Chapel Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at The Madison. He was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Morgantown, son of the late Ray and Ruth Andrews West. He was an independent contractor and the retired owner and operator of West Transfer and Storage. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and was Protestant. He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Deborah and Greg Lofstead, of Masontown, Pa.; a granddaughter, Maria Lofstead, of Masontown, Pa.; a brother, Doyle West, of Morgantown; and three sisters, Joyce Nisbett, of Gasper, Ga., Thelma Currence, of Elkins, and Cecile Roth, of Vancouver, Wash. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dona Faye West, on May 30, 1990; a brother, Edwin "Bud" West; and a sister, Maxine Bland. Friends may call at Fred L. Carolyn McMillen Rogers, 54, of Pasadena, Md., formerly of Morgantown, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Pasadena. She was born May 21, 1947, in Morgantown, daughter of Frances Hyde McMillen Johnson, of Bruceton Mills, and the late Clark Donald McMillen. She is also survived by her husband, Michael Rogers, of Pasadena; three daughters and spouses, Michelle and Bill Maloney, Noreen and Brad Fleming, and Jody Casteel and fiance Mark Biedron, all of Morgantown; a son and fiancee, Joe Casteel and Kelly Lauer, of Brooklyn, Md.; a sister and fiance, Tammy Ponceroff and Randy Blosser, of Morgantown; a brother and spouse, Sonny and Ruth McMillen, of Morgantown; seven nieces and nephews, all of Morgantown; seven grandchildren, Krystal, Jimmy, Elizabeth, Christopher, Samantha, Casey and McKenzie, all of Morgantown; three stepchildren and three step-grandchildren, all of Morgantown. Barbara Defazio Hartley, 70, of Monongah, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born May 17, 1931, in Madesville, Pa., daughter of Floretta Raber Hall, of Fairmont, and the late Arvel Fox. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was an avid doll maker and collector. Dorthia Rehe Morony
Dorthia Loann Rehe Morony, 68, of Upper Marlboro, Md., formerly of Masontown, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She was born Sept. 18, 1932, in Bretz, daughter of the late Frank V. and Cassia Rehe. She attended Masontown High School and Morgantown Business College. She made crafts and enjoyed cake decorating and candy making. She was hospitality chairman for the Marlton Women's Club for many years and was honored twice as the Outstanding Club Woman for her efforts. She was a longtime member of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ives G. Morony; three brothers and spouses, Franklin and Mary Rehe, Harold and Donna Rehe, and Jack and Rilla Rehe, all of Masontown; and three sisters and a spouse, Lenora Rehe, of Masontown, Leona and Loar Cale, of Morgantown, and Inez Holmes, of Nashville, Tenn. Lorain H. 'Pete' Painter
Lorain H. "Pete" Painter, 79, of Maple Avenue, Grafton, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital. He was born July 22, 1921, in Grafton, son of the late Dr. L.L. Painter and Hazel Fear Painter. He was the owner of the former Painters-Grafton Jewelry Store for 46 years, having retired in December 1991. He was a graduate of the Gemology Institute of America. He attended West Virginia University and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity of WVU. He was formerly the police commissioner for the city of Grafton. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Covenant of Grafton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II (1942-1946), a member of the BPOE Grafton Lodge 308, the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, and the American Legion Taylor County Post 12. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nellie Breedlove Painter; two children and a spouse, Clifford M. Painter and Cheryl L. and A.R. Lake III, all of Grafton; a grandson, Gregory M. Corio, of Morgantown; and a sister and spouse, Virginia A. and John M. "Jack" Riffee, of Sebring, Fla. Friends may call at Donald G. Clara Livingston Blosser, 71, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at home. She was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Belle Vernon, Pa., daughter of the late Earl Porter and Flora Belle Davison Livingston. She was a homemaker and a former manager of Altman's True Value in Westover. She also assisted in the operation of Norge Village Laundromat in the South U Plaza with her late husband, Gilbert R. Blosser. She was a member of the Morgantown Free Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Clara J. Swinburn, of Morgantown; two sons, Dennis R. Blosser, of Morgantown, and Gilbert W. Blosser, of Beckley; two brothers, Earl Livingston, of Hopwood, Pa., and Charles Livingston, of Fairfax, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Hess, of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Richard Keith Summers, 38, of Kingwood, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1963, in Kingwood, son of Janet Benson Summers, of Bruceton Mills, and the late Delbert Ray Summers. Franklin R. Williams
Franklin Richard Williams, 88, of Thayer Street, Grafton, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Uniontown, Pa., son of the late John Leroy Williams and Bessie Lee Jolliffee Williams. He was co-owner of the former Williams Brothers Construction. He worked most of his life in building construction in many areas, including several states. He was a member of the B.M. and P.I. Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid golfer and former member of Tygart Lake Country Club, BPOE Grafton Lodge 308, and the former Moose Lodge of Grafton. He was Protestant, and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret E. "Jibby" Hefner Williams; two children and a spouse, Gloria and Charles Turner, of Holland, Mich., and John R. Williams, of Mexico; a stepdaughter and spouse, Linda "Tish" and Garry Knotts, of Grafton; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin R. Williams; and two sisters, Cora Maxwell and Hazel McNeese. Gladys Cecil Guseman
Gladys Cecil Guseman, 90, of Unity Manor, Morgantown, died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Brunswick, Ohio. She was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Preston County, daughter of the late George Saylor and Attie Riggleman Zinn. She was a member of the First Church of Nazarene of Morgantown. She is survived by a son and spouse, Dallas and Helen Guseman, of Brunswick; a daughter and spouse, Grace and Sam Pickenpaugh, of Jacksonville, N.C.; a sister, Edna Trempler, of Leesburg, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Wesley Guseman, in 1985; three sisters, Edna Kovacic, Juanita Basferd and Gernie Menear. William R. Sutton
William R. Sutton, 77, Mount Morris Road, Cassville, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at home. He was born Dec. 2, 1923, at Cassville, son of the late Asa G. and Alta Riley Sutton. He was a member of Fox Chapel of Mount Morris, Pa., and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 38 years of service. He was an active member of the West Virginia Cattleman's Association and a lifelong farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith McClure Sutton; a daughter and spouse, Mary Lou and Gary Sample, of Cassville; a son and spouse, Charles W. and Linda Sutton, of Cassville; four grandchildren, Bryan Samples, Stacey Samples, Keith Sutton and Christopher Sutton; and a great-granddaughter, Kailey Samples. Barbara R.C. Loughrie Barbara Ruth Childs Loughrie, 64, of Rowlesburg, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at home. She was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Tunnelton, daughter of the late Guy Joseph and Nellie Blanch Reed Childs. She was a graduate of Tunnelton High School, a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by a son and spouse, John and Dee Dee Loughrie, of Rowlesburg; two daughters and spouse, Mary Loughrie Linton, of Morgantown, and Beverly and John Dean, of Rowlesburg; two brothers, George Childs, of Columbus, Ohio, and James "Jake" Childs of DeBary, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Dow, of Neenah, Wisc., Bernice Plum, of Tunnelton, Linda "Sue" Lohr, of Swanton, Md., and Dinah Mcginnis, of Cleveland; and six grandchildren, Kimberly Loughrie Snyder, Deborah Loughrie, Devon Linton, Stephanie Loughrie, Hanah Loughrie and John Noah Loughrie. Joy Makinson Strawn, 88, of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Morgantown, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at home after a long illness. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, serving on the Altar Guild. She volunteered at the Fayetteville Museum of Art and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was a member of the Fayetteville Garden Club, Ikebona, and was a Rotary Paul Harris Recipient. She was a member of the Morgantown Service League. She is survived by three sons, William M. Strawn, of Bradenton, Fla., Lucien J. Strawn II, of Trinity, N.C., and John M. Strawn, of Murphy, N.C.; and two daughters, Joy S. Ficks, of High Point, N.C., and Susan J. Strawn, of Lenoir, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lucien M. Strawn. Willard Kent Eddy, 65, of Jakes Run, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at home. He was born March 25, 1936, at Jakes Run, son of the late William Russell and Gladys Stull Eddy. He is survived by a daughter, Tina Louise Chesenage, of Stewartstown, Pa.; two sisters, Shirley Burnside, of Core, and Lula Barr, of Fairmont; and five granddaughters. Everett Sanson
Everett Sanson, 75, of Fairview, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born May 30, 1926, in Adrian, son of the late William Sanson and Virginia Alice Westfall Sanson Kurkendoll. He worked for more than 40 years as a coal miner at several mines. He retired from Consolidation Coal Co.'s Loveridge Mine. He was a member of the UMWA District 31, Local 9909. He had served with the U.S. Navy, and was a life member of the VFW. His hobbies included bowling, fishing and country music. He is survived by a son and spouse, Daniel and Judy Sanson, of Fairview; a brother and spouse, George and Billie Sanson, of San Pedro, Calif.; a sister, Betty Sanson Riefer, of Fairmont; a grandson and spouse, Michael and Heather Sanson, of Berea, Ky.; five sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Fleming Sanson, on July 21, 1996; two brothers, Jack Sanson, and Jake Sanson; and four sisters, Cora Harris, Plina Fluharty, Hapsie Delligatti and Barbara Shahan. Stephanie M. M. Walsh
Stephanie M. Mandes Walsh, 38, of York, Pa., formerly of Morgantown, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at home. She was born March 25, 1963, in Washington, D.C., daughter of George and Eleanor Mancuso Mandes, of Isle of Palm, S.C. She was an in-store merchandising manager for Boyd's Bears Collection. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a graduate of West Virginia University and worked in Morgantown before relocating to York. She is survived by her husband, John R. Walsh Jr.; a son, George S. Walsh, at home; a stepdaughter, Chloe Walsh, of York; a stepson, John R. Walsh III, of York; and a brother, Maj. Stephen Mandes, of Fort Knox, Ky. John W. Keffer Funeral Home, 902 Mount Rose Ave., York, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Donations: American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.

Kelly D. Osborne
Kelly D. Osborne, 37, of Butternut Drive, Princeton, formerly of Glenville, died Thursday July 12, 2001, in Bluefield Regional Hospital, Bluefield, following a three-year illness. She was born July 31, 1963, in Lewis County, daughter of E. "Gene" and Karen McCue Davis, of Terra Alta. She was a graduate of Central Preston High School in 1981, and a 1984 graduate of Glenville State College with a business administration degree. Before she moved to Princeton, she was an administrative assistant at Glenville State College in the Division of Education and was last employed by Concord College as records administrator in the registrar's office. While in Glenville, she was a member of Ohnimgohow Players Theatre Group at Glenville State College, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville. She was a member of the Kee Street United Methodist Church, in Princeton, where she was youth education coordinator and a member of the United Methodist Women of the Church. She is also survived by her husband, Kenny Osborne, of Princeton, whom she married June 14, 1986; a daughter, Kristen Osborne; three sisters, Francine Kirk, of Kingwood, Gina Layhew, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Pritt, of Fairfax, Va.; maternal grandmother, Frances McCue Wilfong, of Jane Lew; and her mother-in-law, Janet Osborne, of Glenville. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, William Osborne. Friends may call at Trinity United Methodist Church, Glenville, from 4-9 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, until the 1 p.m. service, with the Revs. David Jasper and Michael Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Weston.
