Howard James "Jim" Coe, 47, of Spencer, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born June 5, 1954, in Roane County, son of Herbert E. Coe, of Spencer, and the late Ethel Coe.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired auto mechanic.
He is also survived by his wife, Niomia E. Coe; a son, Christopher Lee Coe, of Spencer; a stepmother, Doris Coe, of Spencer; four sisters, Brenda S. Coe, Mary Pickens and Jeanne Fansler, all of Fairmont; and Beverly Marks, of Palestine; a brother, David E. Coe, of Cutler, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Matthew T. and Dalton Lee Coe.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery.

Ray Friend, 74, of Masontown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Virginia L. Good
Virginia L. Good, 72, of Kingwood, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Heartland of Preston County.
She was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Lawrence, Pa., daughter of the late LeRoy and Mildred Giffen Wilson.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Good, of Tunnelton, and Ron Good, of Kingwood; five daughters, Diana Radabaugh and Patty Pell, both of Masontown, Joyce Radabaugh, of Valley Point, and Debbie Radabaugh and Betty Good, both of Kingwood; three sisters, Norma Shaffer, of Masontown, Wilma Miller, of Kingwood, and Violet Bernard, of Hagerstown, Md.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Good; four brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Sebastian Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. Vincent Segotta C.P. as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Masontown.
Danny G. Rochester
Danny G. Rochester, 55, of Reedsville, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at home in Reedsville.
He was born Nov. 22, 1945, in Cascade, a son of Mary G. Blake, of Star City, and the late Garth H. Rochester.
He graduated from Valley High School in 1963. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 152 of Morgantown with 29 1/2 years of service. In 1972 he won the State Apprentice Scoring Contest with the highest test score in the history of the state and his record has never been beaten. He also placed in the top 15 in the National Apprentice Contest held at Purdue University in Indiana. He was Methodist.
He is also survived by his wife Nancy Wolfe Rochester; two daughters, Danielle and Christine Rochester, both of Reedsville; two sisters, Carmen Rochester Lott, of Forrest Hills, Md., and Donna Rochester Cummings, of Severn, Md.; and his mother-in-law, Betty Jenkins, of Edgemere, Md.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Charlie, in 1989, and a sister, Joyce Ann Marshall in 1995.
Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. Jon Henry officiating. A private burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Virginia Riley Hanway
Virginia Riley Hanway, 94, of Grafton, Blueville Addition, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital after a long illness.
She was born Oct. 10, 1906, in Grafton, daughter of the late William C. and Grace M. Riley Hanway.
She attended Fairmont State College, graduating in 1926. She received a master's degree in supervision from West Virginia University. She taught at West Grafton School, Central School, Grafton Junior High School and East Grafton School, retiring there after 42 years of service. She was the Taylor County supervisor from 1949-1955. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, past matron of the Naomi Chapter 12, Order of the Eastern Star, past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Woman's Club of Grafton, Grafton Hospital Auxiliary, the Retired Teacher's Association, the Taylor County Historical Society and the Taylor County Library. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her friends, George W. and Marjorie E. McCauley, of Grafton.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret L. Lambert, who died May 26, 1978.

Jessie A. Eliason
Jessie A. Eliason, 79, of Worthington, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Wishing Well Health Center in Fairmont.
She was born Feb. 7, 1922, in Worthington, daughter of the late Albert Hess Sr. and Ethel Furbee Hess.
She was Protestant and a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Charlotte Booth Robinson and Sherman D. Robinson Sr., of Rivesville; two sons and spouse, Marshall Ray "Bucky" and Sandra Booth, and Glenn E. "Junie" Booth, all of Worthington; four brothers, Albert Hess Jr., of Fairmont, and Max Hess, Charles Hess and James Hess, all of Worthington; three sisters, Grace Hess Fisher, of Melbourne, Fla., and Betty Hess Wright and Dot Hess Kropog, both of Cleveland; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, David, David Allen and Jessica Myers; Steve, France and Charles Henry Barta; James, Lisa and Jimmy Barta; Charles "Eddie," Sandy and Samantha Booth; Kim, Joe, Brittany and Kaylee Miller; and Daniel, Lisa, Hannal and Danny Booth.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Booth Sr.; and two brothers, William and Robert Hess.

Douglas Williamson Jr.
Dr. Douglas B. Williamson Jr., 82, of Beaver Lake, N.J., died Monday, July 30, 2001.
He was born Nov. 16, 1918, son of Mildred Evelyn Keating and Douglas B. Williamson Sr.
He served in the Naval Air Force during World War II and in the Naval Reserve for many years, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. He received his doctorate at Columbia University. He taught in the Physics De-partment at West Virginia University from 1946-1978. He served as chairman of the West Virginia Academy of Science, Science Talent Search Committee and director of the West Virginia Science Talent Search. He was an active member of the American Meteorological Society, American Association of Physics Teachers, Sigma Pi Sigma, the University Senate, and the College of Arts and Science Scholarship Committee. He was professor emeritus in the WVU Department of Physics. He was an avid caver and member of the American Speliological Society, making a number of additions and corrections for the W.Wa. Geological Survey, Caverns of West Virginia .
After his retirement, he relocated near his family's cottage on Beaver Lake. He served as treasurer of the Franklin Mineral Museum and on the Board of the Lake Girard Fish and Game Club. He was active in the Beaver Lake Home Owners Association, and the Beaver Lake Realty Co. He was instrumental in saving a large tract from development as a board member of Friends of Sparta Mountain and an active member of the New Jersey Highlands Coalition.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Alma Ford Williamson, of Morgantown; two daughters, Mary Kay, of Bethlehem, Pa., and Elizabeth Ann, of Morgantown; a son, Robert Douglas, of LaFayette, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Simmons.

John D. 'Jack' Gill
John D. "Jack" Gill, 78, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at home after a long illness.
He was born June 7, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Delmont Isaiah and Doris Amelia Montgomery Gill.
Following military service in World War II and education at Michigan State and two other universities, he served as a research wildlife biologist, mostly as a project leader, for the states of West Virginia and Maine, and for the U.S. Forest Service in West Virginia and Massachusetts.
He wrote, co-authored or compiled about 50 publications. For his professional society, he was editor-in-chief for 1979-1980 of The Journal of Wildlife Management and editor of Technical Review manuscripts from 1989-1993. He was member of chairman of many committees. He also was founding editor of a journal published by another professional society.
In addition to his primary work, he held adjunct faculty appointments at three universities. As a hobby, he and his wife taught round dancing in Morgantown and three other cities from 1967 until 1984.
After retiring, he served as a volunteer with Christian Help, picking up and delivering donated items and food. He was a longtime supporter of numerous conservation and civil rights organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla "Pat" Gill, whom he married on July 13, 1945, and a sister and spouse, Catherine Patricia and Edward Lynch, of Akron, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael John Gill, in November 1972.

Junior Ray Friend
Junior Ray Friend, 74, of Bretz, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 3, 1927, in Thomas, son of the late Arthur Ross and Mary Jane Stiles Friend.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was employed as a coal miner for six years, the Ford Factory in Newton Falls for three years, Mercury Coal and Coke for 28 years, and retired in January 1993 from Greystone Inc., in Morgantown. He was Methodist.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dortha "Dottie" R. Friend; three sons and spouses, Roger and Linda Friend, of Independence, Skip and Debbie Friend, of Bretz, and James and Pamela Friend, of Reedsville; a daughter and spouse, Pamela "Jackie" and Douglas Born, of Kingwood; a brother, Walter Friend, of Washington, D.C.; stepmother, Pauline Friend, of Moorefield; seven grandchildren, Adam Friend, Cathy Beal, Arthur "Hurk" Friend, Kelly Summers, Scott Born, Becky Tennant and Cindy Snyder; and six great-grandchildren, Kylee Summers, Karly Summers, Tabby Beal, Katie Beal, Brittany Beal and Glenn Beal.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Friend and Thomas Friend.

Thelma E. Eddy Wade
Thelma Elizabeth Eddy Wade, 90, of Hagans, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Hagans, daughter of the late James Clark and Elizabeth Avalon West Eddy.
She was a lifelong member of the Hagans United Methodist Church until its closing and then attended the Lynch Chapel and Arnettsville United Methodist Churches where she played the piano for church services. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge 64 in Fairmont.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Takash, of Hagans; three sons, David K. Wade, of Independence, Arbeth J. Wade, of Moorefield, and Gary L. Wade, of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arbeth Wade, in 1980; six brothers, Charles Eddy, Frank Eddy, Raymond Eddy, Rex Eddy and Rillis Eddy; and three sisters, Florence Fleming, Myra Berry and Alice Lewis.

William Sanford Tennant
William Sanford Tennant, 81, of Rice Street, Barrackville, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Fairview, son of the late Gilbert S. and Rosa M. King Tennant.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the South Pacific for four years during World War II. He retired from Monongahela Power Co., Fairmont Division, after 47 years of service. He retired as a lead crewman.
He is survived by a son and spouse, Michael and Sharon Tennant, of Fairmont; a brother, Charles Tennant, of Waynesburg, Pa.; a sister, Mary Lawrence, of Pittsburgh; and a stepgranddaughter, Elizabeth Shroyer, of Fairmont.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Balasko Tennant, who died in 1985.

Alan D. Stewart
Alan D. "Doodle Bug" Stewart, 66, of Brave, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Mount Morris, Pa., son of the late John R. and Helen Barr Stewart.
He lived most of his life in Greene County and was a retired coal miner from Consolidation Coal Co. having worked many years at the Blacksville No. 1 and at the Arkwright Mine. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 992 in Mount Morris, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 461 in Waynesburg, Pa., and Waynesburg Elks Lodge 757.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Black Stewart; two daughters, Holly Evans, of Waynesburg, and Michelle Goodwin, of Sycamore; four grandchildren, Tyler Stewart Evans, Josey Mae Evans, Emily Elizabeth Goodwin and Brianna Nicole Goodwin; six sisters, Mary Krency, of Washington, Elva Mooney, of Waynesburg, Lois Pecjak, of Lutes, Fla., Judy Enlow, of Centreville, Va., Lila Ayersman, of Waynesburg, and Sara Morris, of Warren, Ohio; and three brothers, Glen Stewart, of Greenville, Loye Stewart, of Warren, and Earl Stewart, of Mount Morris.

Helen M. DuPont, 77, of Bretz, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at home.
She was born April 1, 1924, in Harding, daughter of the late Genoeffa Giuliani and Panfilio "Benny" Tiberio.
She was a member of St. Zita's Catholic Church and St. Zita Altar & Rosary Society.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Louis DuPont; a daughter and spouse, Theresa and Charles Blosser, of Bretz; a son, David DuPont, of Arthurdale; four grandchildren and a spouse, Derek and Drew DuPont, of Arthurdale, Scott and Karen Blosser, of Parkersburg, and Lori Blosser, of Morgantown; a brother and spouse, Felix and Delores Tiberio; a sister and spouse, Rose and Vespucci Polce; and a sister-in-law, Olive Mae Tiberio.

Mary Delores Shannon, 79, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born March 27, 1922, at Tunnelton, daughter of the late Howard Edward Simpson and Mabel Gertrude Watkins Simpson. She worked 13 years at Sterling Faucet. She enjoyed flower gardening. She was Methodist.
She is survived by two sons, Larry D. Shannon and Ronald H. Shannon, both of Morgantown; two daughters, Helen Phillips, of Morgantown, and Carolyn Myers, of St. George; three brothers, Darrell Edward Simpson, of Morgantown, and Charles Simpson and Ronald Simpson, both of Bruceton Mills; two sisters, Margaret L. Royce and Dorothy M. Moss, both of Morgantown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Walter Harold Shannon; and a grandson, Charles Richard Phillips.

She was born in July 10, 1917, in Marquess, Preston County, the daughter of the late Alvie and Mamie Wolfe Stone.
She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church, Webster.
She is survived by eight daughters and spouses, Rebecca and Buck Rosier, Sylvia and Arthur Totten, Brenda and Clark Turner, all of Grafton, Vicki and Lewis Isner, of Knottsville, Patty and Robert Snyder, of Simpson, Sue Dean, of Thornton, Fretta Kelly, of Brunswick, Ohio, and Nancy and Herbert Gene Larew, of Newburg; four sons and spouses, Herbert and Ethel Moore, and Paul and Alesha Moore, all of Grafton, Donald and Kris Moore, of Simpson, and Ronald and Donna Moore, Milville, N.J.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother and spouse, Richard and Catty Stone, of Marquess; and a sister, Edna Bolyard, of Canton, Ohio.

She was born April 20, 1930, in Kingwood, daughter of the late Ross Franklin and Hazel Lucille Brown Miller.
She was a homemaker and a member of Kingwood Southern Baptist Church and Women's Missionary Union.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clyde D. Haney; two sons and spouses, Pat and Sandra Haney, of Waycross, Ga., and Charles and Donna Haney, of Kingwood; a daughter and spouse, Teresa and Chuck Coffman, of Masontown; three brothers, Mervin "Bruce" Miller, of Kingwood, Harry "Jack" Miller, of Naples, Fla., and Charles "Frank" Miller, of Morgantown; a sister, Martha Jane Brown, of Kingwood; and five grandchildren, Susan, Kylan, Michael, Kenneth and Keith Haney.

Homer Earl Hardesty, 60, of Fairmont, Hoult Community, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Fairmont, son of the late John and Edith Martin Hardesty.
He was employed for more than 30 years as a concrete truck driver for May Brothers in Fairmont. He also worked for Penn Line Tree Service and the Firestone Retread Shop in Bellview. He enjoyed hunting and collected antique tools. He was associated with Victory Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy West Hardesty, whom he married May 26, 1961; a son and spouse, James Edward and Nancy L. Hardesty, of Fairmont; two daughters and spouses, Thelma Louise and Thomas R. Ware, of Fairmont, and Tammy Lynne and Terry Hill, of Fairmont; three brothers and spouses, Henry and Mary Hardesty, of Fairmont, Kenneth and Carol Hardesty, of Fairmont, and Tom and Darlen Hardesty, of Fairmont; four sisters and spouses, Betty and Jim Evans, of Columbus, Ohio, Nellie and Robert Bower, of Fairmont, Martha and Evan Lanham, and Ola and Allen Yoston, all of Fairmont; six grandchildren and a spouse, Bruce Lee and Annie D. Mildred Rosalind Copen
Mildred Rosalind Copen, 76, of Fairmont, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at home.
She was born May 25, 1925, in Elkins, daughter of the late James R. and Ottis Anvil McCauley.
She was a charter member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where she had been a member for more than 50 years. She served many years as the secretary/treasurer of her church. She loved children and dedicated her life to advocating and caring for them. She graduated from Belington High School. Among her hobbies was her extensive collection of dolls. She was a homemaker and mother. She had also worked as a waitress at McCroy's Restaurant.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kenneth Copen, whom she married May 8, 1960; a son and spouse, James and Marlies Stevens, of Great Bend, Kan.; a daughter, Judith Ann Dollison Stewart; two grandchildren, Jeanette Neyman, of Ontario, Calif., and Jeffrey Stevens, of Great Bend, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Neyman and Noah Neyman; and three cousins, Gladys Roach and Robert Meredith, both of Fairmont, and Don Meredith, of Clarksburg.

Gladys K. Wilson Starr
Gladys "Irene" Kunst Wilson Starr, 94, of Beaulahland, formerly of Howard Street, Grafton, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital.
She was born March 2, 1907, in Grafton, daughter of the late David G. and Bernice L. Kunst.
She was a member of the Church of the Covenant of Grafton and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was previously employed at Grafton City Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two sons, Homer David Wilson and Richard Frank Wilson, both of Pennsylvania.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Homer B. Wilson, on June 13, 1956; her second husband, Bernard Starr; a sister and brother-in-law, Ada Louise and Paul T. Williamson.
Friends may call at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, U.S. 50 West, Grafton, from 7-9 p.m. Friday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, with Pastor Sarah Lee officiating. Burial will be in Bluemont Cemetery.
Agnes Seman Shlosky
Agnes Marie Seman Shlosky, 76, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Brownsville, Pa., daughter of the late George and Margaret Kruper Seman.
She was a 1942 graduate of Brownsville High School and resided in Carmichaels all of her married life. She was a member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church of Carmichaels and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Cynthia Sue and Richard Aultman, of Carmichaels; three grandchildren, Leslie Ann Klinger, Richard Lee Aultman Jr. and Hilary Lynn Mapuhi; four great-granddaughters, Kaylee Nicole Klinger, Emily Klinger, Olivia Klinger and Madison Mapuhi; and two sisters, Mary Ann Kime, of Richeyville, Pa., and Helen Lucille Golinski, of Bedford, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Shlosky, whom she married Feb. 15, 1947; a son, John Michael Shlosky; a brother, John Seman; and a sister, Elizabeth Yager.
Friends may call at Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, and at St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, from 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, until the 9:30 a.m. blessing service. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Burial will be at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa. A vigil service will be held at 3:15 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Mary Delores Shannon
Mary Delores Shannon, 79, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born March 27, 1922, in Tunnelton, daughter of the late Howard Edward and Mabel Gertrude Watkins Simpson.
She was employed at Sterling Faucet in the tube mill for 13 years. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. She was Methodist.
She is survived by two sons, Larry D. Shannon and Ronald H. Shannon, both of Morgantown; two daughters, Helen Phillips, of Morgantown, and Carolyn Myers, of St. George; three brothers, Darrell Edward Simpson, of Morgantown, Charles Simpson, and Ronald Simpson, both of Bruceton Mills; two sisters, Margaret L. Royce and Dorothy M. Maust, both of Morgantown; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Walter Harold Shannon; and a grandson, Charles Richard Phillips.
Service will be at James G. Lobb Funeral Home, W.Va. 7, Reedsville, at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. Allen Crosten officiating. Burial will be at Mount View Cemetery in Tunnelton. Donations: Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department, Brookhaven Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
Ella Mae Fowler
Ella Mae Fowler, 80, of Smithfield, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in Uniontown (Pa.) Hospital.
She is survived by a son, Carlos Fowler, of Morgantown; a daughter, Susan Nash, of Smithfield; and several grandchildren.
