Carlton E. DeWitt
Carlton E. DeWitt, 60, of Kingwood, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at home following a three-year battle with cancer. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Kingwood, son of the late Earl Gay and Letha Uphold DeWitt. He worked in the finishing department of Matthews International, formerly York Bronze, as a painter. He previously was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and was Protestant. His love and enthusiasm for the outdoors, especially gardening, was well-known. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Ward Cummings DeWitt, whom he married on July 15, 2001, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at their home; three daughters and spouses, Phil and Cheryl Morris, of Tunnelton, Steve and Katleen Dillsworth, of Aurora, and Bria* and Mary Turner, of Reedsville; two stepdaughters and spouses, Jerry and Alisa LaRue, of Arthurdale, and Budd and Kimberly Thorn, of Kingwood; three brothers and spouses, Robert and Carrie DeWitt, of Bayard, Edward and Esther DeWitt, of Tarrentum, Pa., and Dayton DeWitt, of Albright; four sisters and spouses, Jim and Gladys Braham, of Albright, Charles and Virginia "Sis" Marcy and Robert and Sylvia Clark, all of Kingwood, and Barbara Stevenson, of Tunnelton; 11 grandchildren, Emily and Sarah Morris, Amanda and Jonathan Dillsworth, Carly Murray, Brianna and Jay Turner, Britney and Brian LaRue and Steven and Erinn Thorn; his mother-in-law, Wanda Ward Strahin, of Reedsville; his brother-in-law, Bo Ward, of Arthurdale; two sisters-in-law and spouses, George and Wilma Hershman, of Grafton, and Marvin and Carolyn Teter, of Kingwood; and the mother of his children, Leona Stevenson, of Tunnelton. Nellie Leeson
Nellie Leeson, 82, of Rachel, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born July 23, 1919, in Calhoun County, daughter of the late Charles and Etta Cottrell. She was former owner of Leeson's Snack Bar and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mannington. She is survived by her husband, Roland Leeson; three sons and spouses, James and Donna Leeson, and Gary and Mary Leeson, all of Mannington, and Russell and Karen Leeson, of Weirton; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Leeson, of Weirton; two daughters and spouses, Betty and Charles Taylor, of Mannington, and Diana and Rick Pasquariello, of Rachel; two brothers, Bert and Russell Cottrell, both of Lumberport; two sisters, Katherine Sproles, of Mannington, and Ruby Dana, of Michigan; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Leeson; two brothers, Orless and Clarence Cottrell; and three sisters, Ethel Griffin, Mildred Costello and Esther Bates. Edra Saurborn
Edra Saurborn, 89, of Fairmont, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Marion County, daughter of the late Henry and Cassie Calvert Dixon. She was a homemaker and had been employed as a housekeeper for several families in the Fairmont area. She was Christian. She was also preceded in death by all of her immediate family; three husbands, Roy Grimm, Charles Hostetler and Bill Saurborn; six brothers, Charles Dixon, William Dixon, John Dixon, Gay Dixon, Ray Dixon and Harley Dixon; and three sisters, Audra Fast, Lefa Huey and Carrie Shuk. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Barrackville Baptist Cemetery. Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard E. Powell
Richard E. Powell, 69, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Sundale Nursing Home. He was born April 10, 1932, in Cincinnati, son of the late James Glenn and Florence Russell Powell. He retired as a professor from the WVU School of Music in 1995, after 27 years of service. He received a bachelor's of music degree from Combs College of Music in Philadelphia and a master's in education from Southwest State Teachers College. He was a second trombonist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 1959-60. From 1960-68, he was first trombonist with San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of St. John's University Parish. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverly Smith Powell; four sons and spouses, Thomas and Sue Powell, of Fort Knox, Ky., Randall and Cheryl Powell, of Concord, N.C., James and Lee Powell, of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert and Deb Powell, of Westfield, Ind.; three daughters and spouse, Cathryn Olson, of Phoenix, Betsy and Ben Nolan, of Fairfax, Va., and Nancy Leroy, of Morgantown; and 12 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, John Edward Powell, who died March 13, 2001; a brother, John T. Powell; and a sister, Jane Powell Cox. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John's University Parish at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, with the Rev. Donald X. Higgs as celebrant. After the Liturgy, family and friends will meet at Newman Hall. William R. Savage
William R. Savage, 83, of Albright, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at home. He was born March 28, 1918, in Crellin, Md., son of the late Noah and Sarah Catherine Sliger Savage. He was a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren. He was a retired coal miner and a senior citizens' bus driver. He is survived by two sons and spouses, William R. and Phyllis Savage Jr., of Kingwood, and James and Janelle Savage, of Clarksburg; five daughters and spouses, Catherine and John Collins, Carole and William Miller, and Lois and Dean Christopher, all of Albright, Jean Harman, of Harman, and Nancy and David Thompson, of Elkins; a sister, Betty Knotts, of Kingwood; 15 grandchildren and spouses, John and Ceil Collins, Tammy and Robert Ord, Mark and Tammy Savage, Scott Savage, Greg and Allison Savage, Cindy Brewer, Wendy Bennett, Shelley and Chris Missimer, Todd and Kelly Thompson, Brian and Dawn Savage, Darcie Savage, Anthony and Kelly Miller, Chad and Julie Miller, Steven and April Christopher, and Tracy and Kelly Christopher, and 22 grandchildren. Arthur B. Burns
Arthur B. Burns, 76, of Rowlesburg, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood. He was born May 5, 1925, in Rowlesburg, a son of the late Charlie and Maggie Burns. He was a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel, Baltimore; a member of the Kingwood FOE and a life member of Fort Butler VFW Post 826, Kingwood. He is survived by a son, Tom Burns, of Fairmont; a daughter, Cathy Crowell, of Baltimore; the children's mother, Ann Clark, of Tyrone, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kim Yarworth, Sue Thomas and Alvin Crowell; and four great-grandchildren. Bonnie Dunn Long
Bonnie Dunn Long, 100, of Wishing Well Manor, Fairmont, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001. She was born June 19, 1901, in Sutton, Canfield community, daughter of the late James and Mattie Dunn. She taught in Kanawha County Schools most of her life until her retirement. She received her teaching degrees from Fairmont Normal College and Morris Harvey College. She was married to Wilmer Long, a former Kanawha County lawyer. She was a hospital volunteer in two Charleston Hospitals for more than 25 years and more than 10,000 hours and was secretary of the Auxiliary of the West Virginia Hospital Association. She was past president and served on the board of Kanawha Valley Memorial Hospital and was director of volunteers. She finished her career at Women's and Children's Hospital. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Charleston, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Tillikum Garden Club and several teaching organizations. She was a lifetime member of the Charleston Baptist Temple. She was selected as the "Hometown Hero" of the year, June 13, 1986 by Channel 3 WSAZ for her volunteer work in the community. She is survived by her sister, Freda Dunn Zuspan Bragg, of Rivesville; a nephew and spouse, Carl H. and Virginia Zuspan, of Fairmont. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wilmer Long in 1972; a brother, Virgil Dunn; and a niece, Betty Zuspan Boda.

Helen Taylor
Helen Taylor, 72, of Morgantown, formerly of Brooksville, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Morgantown, daughter of Emma Marie Clouser Feathers, of Martinsburg, and the late Okey C. Feathers. She had been employed with the C&P Telephone Co. as an operator and had been a secretary with WVU. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Elks. She is also survived by a son, Carl W. Norberg III, of Martinsburg; two daughters and a spouse, Melanie and Wayne Jimmie, and Beth Ann Wadsworth, all of Morgantown; a sister, Roselyn Joanne Feathers, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Lori Blosser, Jeremy Berkshire, Anthony and Angelina Jimmie, and Samantha McIe; and a great-granddaughter, Bethanie Marie Blosser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Junior R. Taylor; and a brother, James H. Feathers. Jeremy 'Jay' Smith
Jeremy "Jay" Smith, 19, of Fort McCoy, Fla., formerly of Fairmont, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, as a result of an auto accident in Fort McCoy. He was born Oct. 27, 1981, in Morgantown, son of Shannon Smith, of Fairmont, and Cindy McQuain Amsden, of Fort McCoy. While living in Fairmont he was a student at East Dale School. He had lived in Florida for the past 14 years and was working as a painter at the time of his death. He is also survived by his stepfather, Arnold Amsden, of Fort McCoy; two brothers, Ricky Harvey, of Fort McCoy, and Justin Smith, of Fairmont; grandparents, James and Eleanor McQuain, of Fairmont, and Doris Smith, of Fairmont; his great-grandmother, Genevieve Conrad, of Fort McCoy; aunts and uncles, Pam McQuain Toothman and Jimbo and Lynette McQuain, Greg and Shelly Gordon, Joni Smith, Sherry Smith, Richard and Alice Greene, Kenneth and Vicki Carr, Kevin Smith and Tracey and Carolyn Smith, all of Fairmont; and cousins, Tyler Toothman, Jamey McQuain and Collin McQuain. He was also preceded in death by his grandfather, John Smith; a great-grandfather, Gerald Conrad; and an uncle, Larry Smith. Scott Spencer Rogers
Scott Spencer Rogers, 41, of Harmony, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C. He was born Dec. 3, 1959, in Philippi, son of Judith Miller Rogers, of Lumberport, and the late David Raymond Rogers. He was a graduate of Lumberport High School, where he was class salutatorian. He was raised on the family farm, was active in 4-H, and was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church. He was a member of the state 4-H Dairy Judging Team and won many awards at local and state dairy shows. He received a bachelor's degree in animal science at WVU and was a member of the Farm House Fraternity. He was awarded Grand Champion Showman of the WVU Little Eastern. While operating the family farm in Lumberport, he was honored as Outstanding Young Farmer. After leaving Lumberport, he managed a dairy in Charles Town, where he was an active member and deacon of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church. He earned his master's degree in crop science from North Carolina State University, and following graduation he became an extension agent in Montgomery County. He and his wife, Sarah, came to Harmony and owned and operated their own dairy farm, "Wilema," in 1996. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and Forest Park Presbyterian Church in Statesville. He is also survived by his wife, Sarah Kline Rogers; a son, Wilson Graham Rogers; a daughter, Emma Grace Rogers; two brothers, Thomas Raymond Rogers, of Brighton, Tenn., and Matthew David Rogers, of Lumberport; a sister, Rebecca Osborne, of Lumberport; three nieces; and a nephew. Catheleen Wanita Moyer Radcliff, 85, of Clarksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Clarksburg, daughter of the late Peter Okey Moyer and Ethel Freeman Moyer Davis, and stepdaughter of the late Carson C. Davis. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Betty Lee McMillen, 74, of Baltimore, formerly of Morgantown, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001. She was born in Morgantown, daughter of the late Junior L. and Opal E. Matheny. She is survived by her husband, Charles Franklin McMillen; five sons, Eric, Richard, Charles Jr., Kevin and Jeffrey McMillen; a daughter, Jacquelyn; three brothers, Robert, Lee and Wes Metheny; a sister, Barbara Utt; a half-brother, Gary Metheny; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Service was in Baltimore.

Helen Virginia Popovich
Helen Virginia "Sis" Popovich, 86, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Doctor's Hospital, Massillon, Ohio. She was born March 9, 1915, in Mananna, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Hout. She loved her family above all else. Her grandchildren were the "apple of her eye." She will be lovingly remembered by all and missed very much. Roy L. 'Bud' Roth
Roy L. "Bud" Roth, 78, of Masontown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at home. He was born July 10, 1923, in Masontown, son of the late Arlie A. and Florence Cale Roth. He was a World War II veteran, having served in England. He was a member of Masontown United Methodist Church where he was active in the men's Bible study, choir, was a trustee and always enjoyed serving buckwheat cakes during Buckwheat Festival time. He was a member of the Gideons International and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was part owner of A.A. Roth & Sons Garage and Trailer Sales in Masontown for 44 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jessie Albright Roth; three sons and spouses, Lynnwood and Betty Roth, of Jacksonsville, Fla., Robert "Bob" and Debby Roth, of Reedsville, and Roger Roth, of Masontown; a sister and spouse, Glenna "Sis" and William King, of North Versailes, Pa.; a brother and spouse, Wayne and Eleanor Roth, of Masontown; and four grandsons, Robbie Roth, of Reedsville, Christian, Isaac and Michael Roth, of Jacksonville, Fla. Claris L. Helmick
Claris L. Helmick, 76, formerly of Hirshman Street, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Smithley's Personal Care Home in Mount Morris, Pa. She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Cassville, daughter of the late Millard and Margaret McGee Britton. She was a homemaker. She is survived by three sons and spouses, Wayne "Butch" and Lydia Helmick, Hayward "Squirt" and Carol Helmick, and Terry and Cindy Helmick, all of Morgantown; two sisters, Virginia Spangler, of Virginia, and Christine Sell, of Mount Morris; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hayward Justin Helmick, in 1993, whom she married June 25, 1940; a sister, Freda DePalma; three brothers, Paul Britton, Emil "Buck" Britton, and Bobby Britton; and a granddaughter, Lisa Dawn Helmick. Robert C. Brown
Robert C. "Brownie" Brown, 81, of R.D. 4, Moundsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Petersburg, son of the late William and Emma Getz Brown. He was a retired employee of McElroy Mine Consolidation Coal. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Washington Lands Methodist Church and the Moundsville VFW Post 437. He is survived by his wife, Mabel A. Rose Brown; three sons, Robert and Roger Brown, both of Moundsville, and Terry Brown, of Newark, Del.; two daughters, Sandy Fitzwater, of Moundsville, and Linda Travis, of Williamsburg, Va.; three brothers, Don Brown, of Birmingham, Ala., Gerald Brown, of Oldtown, Fla., and Delmar Brown, of Witchita, Kan.; a sister, Helen Frum, of Morgantown; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. Denzil Vandergrift
Denzil "Sonny" Theodore Vandergrift, 75, of Fairmont, Quiet Dell Community, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Hammond, son of the late Huey and Hannah Mabel Williams Vandergrift. He was retired from Sharon Steel in Fairmont, after 29 years of service as a machinist. He served in the U.S. Army with the 60th Infantry from 1944-1946. He was associated with the Victory Baptist Church in Fairmont. He was a charter member of the Quiet Dell Community Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a past member of the White Day Golf Course. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wannalee Keener Vandergrift; two sons and a spouse, Rodger D. and Sarah Vandergrift, of Fairmont, and Randy L. Vandergrift, of Fairmont; a daughter and spouse, Barbara Renee and Arthur Wert, of Milroy, Pa.; four sisters, Martha Bissell, of Philadelphia, Mildred Shaver, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Malinda MacMullin, of Philadelphia, and Mary Jean Abel, of Ravenswood; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Mary Ruth Keener. Velma Scafella
Velma Scafella, 84, of Point Marion, Pa., died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 27, 1917, in Cowen, daughter of the late Willard and Virginia Goff Wood. She was a member of St. Hubert's Roman Catholic Church, where she was active in the Rosary Altar Society; and the ladies auxiliary of American Legion Post 499. She was a former employee of Houze Glass in Point Marion and the Towers dormitories at WVU. She also worked as a clerk in her husband's dry cleaning business. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dominic Scafella, whom she married Jan. 22, 1938; a daughter, Doris Jean Trozzo, of Gibsonia, Pa.; three grandchildren, Joanne Lengle, Barbara Trozzo and Francis Trozzo Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Lengle. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Verma Hearn and Marie Stewart; and five brothers, Rex Wood, Otis Wood, Victor Wood, Gilbert Wood and Percy Wood. Friends may call at Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. The parish rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at St. Hubert's Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Sredzinski as celebrant. Charles 'Fred' Bonner
Charles "Fred" Bonner, 75, of Dewey Avenue, Grafton, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Grafton, son of the late Charles Fleming Bonner and Rossie Hamrick Bonner. He was a retired machinist with more than 45 years of service with the B&O and Chessie Railroad systems. He was a member of Church of Christ of Wilson Ridge in Grafton and also a member of Grafton Elks Lodge 308. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I I. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Phillips Bonner. Friends may call at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday, Sept. 14, with Evangelist Robert Jennings II officiating. Burial will be in Woodsdale Memorial Park in Grafton. Robert Joseph Musgrove
Robert Joseph "Bobby Joe" Musgrove, 23, of Winfield Community, Fairmont, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital as a result of a motorcycle accident north of Morgantown. He was born June 10, 1978, in Fairmont, son of Bob and Pam Cumpston Musgrove, of Fairmont. He graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, working on his motorcycle and helping his brother with motocross racing. He also liked spending time with friends. He was employed at R.G. Honda in Nutter Fort as a mechanic. He is also survived by his brother, Adam Musgrove, in Fairmont; a stepsister and spouse, Stephanie and Eric McDaniel, of New Mexico; a niece, Kaitlin McDaniel, of New Mexico; paternal grandparents, Dick and Evelyn Musgrove, of Fairmont; great-grandfather, John Cox, of Fairmont; five uncles and spouses, Bill Adams, of Pennsylvania, Tim Cumpston, of Fairmont, Ron and Debbie Cumpston, of Morgantown, Richard and Brenda Musgrove, of Fairmont, and Ron and Sherry Musgrove, of Fairmont; and three aunts and spouses, Paula and Bill Schleicher, of Fairmont, Annette and Donald Bradley, of Fairmont, and Paulette and Kevin Boggs, of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl Cumpston and Bonnie Cumpston Gum; and two uncles, Dave Cumpston and Clyde Adams. James 'Ted' Shaffer
James Fred "Ted" Shaffer, 84, of Opekiska Road, Fairmont, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Union, son of the late William Glenn and Bessie Trickett Shaffer. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired as a lockman at Opekiska Lock and Dam. He enjoyed spending time with with family and friends, and feeding wild geese at the lock and dam. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lula "Molly" M. Malone Shaffer, whom he married April 2, 1952; a sister, Neva Glee Malone, of Charlottsville, Va.; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Walter and Betty Malone, of Halleck Road, Wesley Jr. and Bertha Mae Malone, of Opekiska Road, and Bernard E. and Edna Mae Malone, of Opekiska Road; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Shaffer, of Canton, Ohio, Catherine Malone and Mary Malone, both of Opekiska Ridge Road; two nephews, Lawrence Malone, of Opekiska Road, and James Edward Shaffer, of Canton, Ohio; a niece, Sue Ann Morgan, of Charlottsville, Va.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Larry Malone, of Batavia, Ohio, Brian Malone, of Huntington, Justin Shaffer, of Canton, Ryan Morgan of Charlottsville, Alex Morgan, of Charlottsville, Jennifer Cosco, of Rivesville, and Elibeth Ann Morgan, of Charlottesville; and a great-great nephew, Cody Lee Malone, of Huntington. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Shaffer; and by a brother-in-law, Larence Malone. Clara Fletcher Morris
Clara Fletcher Morris, 75, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born July 28, 1926, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Charles and Flossie Tennant Fletcher. She was a homemaker and devoted her life and work to her family after being employed in her earlier years at Morgan Shirt Factory. She was Christian. She is survived by two sons and spouses, James and Debra Morris and Dr. Gary and Lynn Morris, all of Morgantown; five grandchildren, Stephanie Morris, Melissa Morris, Grant Morris, Nicholas Morris and Natalie Morris, all of Morgantown; two sisters, Mary Wade, of Waynesburg, Pa. and Ruby Holbert, of Morgantown; two brothers, Emory "Bud" Fletcher, of Morgantown and Bradley Fletcher, of Mount Morris, Pa. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Nick Morris, in 1986; two brothers, Thomas Fletcher and Willis Wright; and a sister, Delores Fletcher, all of Morgantown. Norman Blanchard Sr.
The Rev. Norman L. Blanchard Sr., 79, of New Geneva, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Uniontown (Pa.) Hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1922, at New Geneva, son of the late Carl L. and Nellie Huhn Blanchard. He was ordained as an American Baptist minister in 1996 and pastored more than a year at Woodbridge Union Church, near Smithfield. He was a graduate of Georges Township High School and in his youth was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired mine foreman and had worked at LTV's Shannopin Mine, in Bobtown, Pa., and the Gateway Mine. He was a justice of the peace for several years in the new Geneva area. He was also a longtime member of New Geneva Baptist Church, where he served several years as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Tantlinger, and Sharon Craig, both of New Geneva; a son, Norman L. Blanchard Jr., of New Geneva; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Cunninghom, of Racine, Wis.; and a close friend, Dorothy Smith, of Smithfield. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elinore "Dolly" Fisher Blanchard, in 1991; and a brother, Raymond Blanchard. Friends may call at Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.
