Charles W. Badger
Charles W. Badger, 87, of Smithfield, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in Uniontown (Pa.) Hospital. He was born March 25, 1914, in Binghamton, N.Y., son of the late LaVerne and Grace Pine Badger. He came to Uniontown in 1953 to serve with Rockwell Manufacturing in the production of water meters. He was named plant accountant and office manager in September 1953 and served in this capacity until his retirement in 1976. He was active in lodges, clubs and community projects, including the National Association of Cost Accountants, the National Association of Accountants, was listed in Who's Who in the East, was past treasurer of the Uniontown Elks, held offices in local and state Exchange Clubs, and was past treasurer of Rockwell Golf League. He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Elaine M. and Eugene Weinberger, of Uniontown; a son, Charles L. and Sally Badger, of Morgantown; seven grandchildren, Bill Weinberger, Terry Horst, Wendy Matthews, Doreen Seamon, Charlie Badger, Kim ReVeal, Kristi Badger; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Lenore Oberg Badger in 1990; and an infant son. A memorial service will be held in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, with the Rev. Paul N. Frank Jr., officiating. Evelyn Pauline McCabe
Evelyn Pauline McCabe, 78, of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Monongalia County, daughter of the late Mack Roy and Flora Bell Long Sisler. She was formerly employed by the Star City Glass Co. and Morgan Shirt Factory. She attended the Crescent Hills Chapel in Westover. She is survived by a son and spouse, James A. and Sandy McCabe, of Kingwood; four sisters and spouses, Gladys Ratzer, of Tunnelton, Hester and Denzel McEldowney, of Vienna, Ester Ratzer, of Marietta, Ohio, and Elsie and James Holmes, of Hampton, Ga.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and good friends, Phyllis and Bob Roy, of Morgantown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry McCabe II, in 1977; a son, John McCabe III; two brothers, Raymond and Lester Sisler; and a sister, Madeline Knotts. Margaret Lucille Toben
Margaret Lucille Murdock Toben, 84, formerly of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Putnam General Hospital. She was born in Crookston, Minn., daughter of the late Hulda Brendler and Durwood Murdock. She spent most of her youth in Ottawa, Ill. While working at the University of Illinois, she met her husband, George Toben. They moved to St. Paul, Minn., and later to Morgantown in 1946. She was active in the Agricultural Wives Club, Wesley United Methodist Church and a stock investment club. She had done volunteer work at a local hospital and attended WVU. She and her husband moved to Marco Island, Fla., in 1987. She was a member of the Marco Island Investment Club, the Newcomer's Club and the United Methodist Women of Wesley United Methodist Church. She moved to Woodlands Assisted Living in Huntington in 1998 and then to Outlook Point in Teays Valley. She attended First Baptist Church of Hurricane with her son and his family. She is survived by her sister, Arlene; three children and spouses, Jane Toben and Dennis Stock, Kay Toben and Kenneth Moomey, and John and Linda Toben; a granddaughter, Kristen; and three stepgranddaughters, Melissa Patterson, Michelle Syres and Jennifer Whitford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Toben. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at First Baptist Church in Hurricane. Burial will be in the Toben family plot in Melvin, Ill. Donations: First Baptist Church of Hurricane.

George Franklin Nedrow
George Franklin Nedrow, 72, of Arthurdale, formerly of Herring community, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at home. He was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Beech Run community, son of the late Walter Herbert and Ocie Florence White Nedrow. He was a veteran of the Korean War who attained the rank of corporal. He worked at Sterling Faucet in Reedsville, until he went to Blacksville No. 1 coal mine, where he worked as a roof bolter until his retirement in 1992. He was also a farmer until he retired in 1998, at which time he moved to Arthurdale. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member and a trustee of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Herring. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Joanne Gamble Nedrow; two daughters and spouses, Bruce and Kathy Jenkins, of Albright, and Brian and Linda Sigley, of Reedsville; three grandchildren, Christopher and Emily Jenkins, and Brandon Sigley; and a sister, Elda Hodges, of Tunnelton. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Joanne; and two brothers, Carl Nedrow and Glenn Nedrow. Friends may call at Waldeck Funeral Home, Masontown, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, and at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, until the 11 a.m. service, with the Rev. Mary Higginbotham
Mary Ellen Higginbotham, 57, of Rymer community, Mannington, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at home. She was born June 6, 1944, at Metz, daughter of the late David Henry and Helen Jean Sturgeon Haught. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed canning and yard work. She was a former member of Church of God of Prophecy at Metz. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Higginbotham; two stepchildren and spouses, Karen and Ronnie Haught, and James and Candy Higginbotham, all of Mannington; four stepgrandchildren; five brothers, Robert Haught, of Elgin, S.C., David Haught, of Wellsburg, and Charles Edward Haught, Donald Ray Haught and Ernest Haught, all of New Castle, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Ice, of Fairmont. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Yost, Nellie June Floyd, Leona Marie Haught and Jeanetta Mabel Haught; and a brother, Earl Leroy Haught, in infancy. Phoebia Ann Baker
Phoebia Ann Baker, 63, of Metz, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born Feb. 23, 1938, at States Fork, daughter of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth Swain Baker. She was a member of Dent's Run Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts. She was a member of the American Fishing Club and One Handyman's Club. She enjoyed gospel music. She is survived by three brothers and spouses, Marion Allen and Shirley Baker, of Mannington, John and Vivian Baker, of Rivesville, and Bill Baker, of Metz; several nieces and nephews, including Debbie Baker, of Metz, and Holly Robbins, of Clarksburg, who was raised in the Baker home, Jeffrey and Edwina White, of Metz; and a great-niece, Nicki Baker. Jesse Pearl Flowers
Jesse Pearl Flowers, 78, of Fairmont, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Marion County Health Care, Fairmont. She was born April 26, 1923, in Richmond, Va., daughter of the late Rosa Ella Flowers. She retired as a nursing assistant, having worked at New York City hospitals. She is survived by a sister, Rosa May Flowers, of Everettsville; and a niece, Rola Clark, of Morgantown. Wesley Burl Williams
Wesley Burl Williams, 67, of Idamay, formerly of Columbia, S.C., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born Dec. 2, 1933, at Wana, son of the late Ross L. and Bessie Cross Williams. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for U.S. Postal Service in Weirton and General Motors Corp. in Cleveland. He was most recently employed as a subcontractor in Columbia. He as a recreational director in Ohio and was selected by the JayCees Association as Man of the Year in Ohio. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and was an avid Redskins fan. He is survived by his former wife, Nancy Williams, of Mannington, to whom he had been married for 30 years; his second former wife, Ann Paugh, of Parkersburg, to whom he was married for two years; four daughters and spouses, Lillian and Douglas Freeman, of Worthington, Felicia and Wayne Ramage, of Rachel, and Bessie and Paul Keener and Sherry Williams, all of Mannington; two sons and spouses, Wesley Michael and Betty Williams, of Mannington, and David Bearl and Renee Williams, of Parkersburg; three brothers and spouses, Wilford and Grace Williams, of Fairmont, Oliver and Grace Williams, of Salem, and Tom Williams, of Mannington; four sisters and spouse, Estaline and Roy Parks, of Weirton, Gladys Jean Morris, of Reader, Grace Sturgeon, of Mannington, and Avis and Russell Looman, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; a former sister-in-law, Marie Harter, of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Williams and Donald Williams; a sister, Mary Belle Malone; and a companion of 15 years, Margaret Woods. Kermit Eugene Zicafoose
Kermit Eugene Zicafoose, 71, of Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital. Friends may call at James G. Mary Prickett Sanders
Mary Lou Prickett Sanders, 64, of Fairmont, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital following a lengthy battle with lung disease. She was born Oct. 28, 1936, at Pricketts Creek, Marion County, daughter of the late Richard Penn and Treca May Prickett. She worked as a custodian for the Marion County Board of Education and retired in 1993 from East Park Elementary School. She was a member of Light of Life World Outreach Center in Fairmont, and hosted groups from that church in her home. She was active i* other church pursuits and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed crocheting and was active in the yearly organization of Marion County's "Happy Harker" reunion. She is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Nada Prickett, of Fairmont; two daughters and spouses, Lora and Drew Prosko, of Farmington, and Tafflon "Taffy" and Clarence Woodford, of Fairmont; a brother and spouse, Lloyd and Joan Prickett, of Newton Falls, Ohio; a sister, Helen Harker; an uncle, Earl "Happy" Harker; eight grandchildren, Cheyenne Prickett, Kelly Vangilder, Crissa Daft, Jason Daft, Andy Prosko, Zackery Woodford, Nathanael Woodford and Caleb Woodford; a great-grandchild, McKinsey Vangilder; and several nieces and nephews. Russell H. Santy
Russell Harold Santy, 79, of Fairmont, Meadowdale community, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at St. Barbara's Nursing Home in Monongah after a long illness. He was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Clay County, son of the late Thomas W. and Letia Hinzman Santy. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for more than 30 years with the Iron Worker's Union Local 549 in Wheeling. During his career, he helped build the West Virginia University Coliseum, the Harrison Power Plant and the Fort Martin Power Plant. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Fairmont for more than 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also liked to spend time at Wal-Mart drinking coffee with friends. He is survived by two sons, Harold Santy, and his fiancee, Christine Heist, and Gary Santy, and his wife, Ruth, all of Fairmont; a stepdaughter and spouse, Janet and James Gordy, of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Emily Santy, of Martinsburg, Johanna Santy, Joshua Santy and Eleanor Santy, all of Fairmont. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Hazel Eloise Santy, on Jan. 18, 1998; a daughter, Mary Sue Santy; two brothers, Cecil Santy and Clyde Santy; and two sisters, Bertha Reeves and Goldie Offutt. Retta Mae Fletcher
Retta Mae Fletcher, 61, of Fairmont, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at home. She was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Fairmont, daughter of Pearl Ware Weaver, of Fairmont, and the late John Martin Weaver. She was employed at Westinghouse Electric for 38 years. She is also survived by her husband, George Fletcher; a brother and spouse, John and Nancy Weaver, of Enterprise; and two sisters and spouses, Judy and Tom Brown, of Fairmont, and Florence and Mike Kovach, of Ohio. A private service will be held Tuesday at Domico Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad McBee officiating.

Leslie H. Sanders
Leslie H. Sanders, 60, of Tunnelton, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at home. He was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Manheim, son of Edith Cassady Sanders, of Tunnelton, and the late Robert B. Sanders. He was a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and a drywall contractor. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean conflict. He is also survived by his wife, Mary Ann Harris Sanders; a son, Kenneth W. Sanders, of Tunnelton; a stepson, Jay F. Whetstone, of Bowie, Md.; two daughters, Jeannine Marie Riley, of Charleston, and Marlene Kaye Forbes, of Masontown; three brothers, Dwight Sanders, of Tunnelton, Jerry Sanders, of Monaca, Pa., and Danny Sanders, of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Peggy Wolfe, of Harpers Ferry; and seven grandchildren. Kenneth Mark Hovatter
Kenneth Mark Hovatter, 72, of Botkins, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 14. 2001, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. He was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Parsons, son of the late William C. Hovatter and Rhonda Poling Hovatter. He retired June 1, 1989 from the Ford Motor Co. with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Sidney American Legion Post No. 217 and a lifetime member of Sidney VFW and Sidney Amvets. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Goff Hovatter; two sons, Kenneth W. Hovatter, of Wilson, N.C., and Mark J. James D. DeWitt
James D. DeWitt, 74, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in Davenport, Fla. He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Morgantown, son of the late Okey and Isabel DeWitt. He was an associate minister at and member of First Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Winter Haven, Fla. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked as a chemical engineer for Bayer Corp. He moved to Florida from New Martinsville in June 2001. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie DeWitt, of Lake Wales, Fla; two sons, Daniel DeWitt, of Wheeling, and Timothy DeWitt, of Morgantown; a stepson, Joseph Stringfellow Jr., of Savannah, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Mercado, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Belma Smith and Betty Smith, both of Morgantown; three brothers, Bud DeWitt and Richard DeWitt, both of Morgantown, and Paul DeWitt, of Parkersburg; and a grandchild, Alex DeWitt. Martha Morgan, 79, of Levels Community, Fairmont, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born July 1, 1922, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Clint Williams and Gertrude Ferrell Williams Rudy. She was a mother and homemaker. She was a Protestant and attended Levels Methodist Church. She had also taught vacation Bible school at Pleasant Hills Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Farm Women's Club and an active volunteer for the Fairmont Soup Opera. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her cat Toby. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Lawrence "Larry" and Sandra Morgan Jr., of Fairmont, and Roy A. and Brenda Morgan, of Grafton; two daughters and a spouse, Norma Kerns, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bonnie Pownell and Clarence Rick Seevers, of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers and spouses, Harold and Hallie Williams, and Dale and JoAnn Williams, all of Fairmont; six grandchildren and spouses, Michelle and Danny Donlin, of Fairmont, Tammy and Albert Morris, of Rivesville, Lawrence Lee and Karen Kerns, of Pennsylvania, Richard and Missy Kerns, of Fairmont, Jon and Dreama Means, of Brandon, Fla., and Steve Morgan, of Kansas City, Miss.; and three great-grandchildren, Betty Rose Morris, Renee Morris and Carter Kerns. Mary H. Roby, 91, of MonPointe, Morgantown, formerly of Newburg, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in Morgantown. She was born July 12, 1910, in Dent, Preston County, daughter of the late John Clarence and Alcinda Freeman Shroyer. She was a homemaker, a cook at Newburg Elementary School and Newburg High School, and was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Gleaners Sunday School class. She is survived by three daughters and spouses, Helen Bragg, of Kingwood, Sue R. and Don Pell, of Tucson, Ariz., and Betty and Jack Kreiling, of Cresaptown, Md.; a son and spouse, Richard R. and Carol Roby, of Secretary, Md.; nine grandchildren, Denzil C. Nellie B. Johnson
Nellie B. Johnson, 93, of Bruceton Mills, Pisgah Community, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Morgan Manor Nursing Center, Morgantown. She was born July 29, 1908, in Wharton Township, Fayette County, Pa., daughter of the late Samuel Spencer and Bertha Metheny Teets. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Bobby L. and Thelma Everly, of Bruceton Mills, and Donald R. and Mary Johnson, of Bruceton Mills; a daughter and spouse, Mary Lous and Russell C. Lewis, of Pisgah; a stepson and spouse, Charles and Helen Johnson, of Albright; two stepdaughters and a spouse, Virginia and Irvin Emerson, of Carmichaels, Pa., and Eleanor Hayward, of Santee, Calif.; a sister, Olive Jane Diehr, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two brothers, James H. Teets, of Donasonville, Ga., and Samuel A. Teets, of Petersburg, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several stepgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Earl Everly, in 1941; her second husband, Albert M. Johnson, in 1980; two stepsons; and several brothers and sisters. Gerald Duane Cook
Gerald Duane Cook, 63, of Hodges Avenue, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Orlando, Fla. He was born Nov. 11, 1937, in Morgantown, son of the late Walter and Gladys Radabaugh Cook. He was a 1956 graduate of Morgantown High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a building contractor for over 30 years. He attended Spruce Street United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Karen Sue Smith Cook; a daughter, Tracy Sue Cook, of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters and a spouse, Jo Anne Cook, of Morgantown, and Elsie and William Guernsey, of Southport, Ind. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Cook; and a sister, Madeline Hess. Wayne W. Wolfe
Wayne W. Wolfe, 73, of West Farmington, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at home. He was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Dellslow, son of the late Charles and Edith Hagedorn Wolfe. He was a crane man at Copper Weld Steel in Warren for 34 years, retiring in January 1990. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, horseshoes and playing the lottery. He was a member of VFW Post 7200, West Farmington, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by children, David, of Colebrook, Charles of Orlando, Fla., Cynthia Wolfe, of West Farmington, Michael and spouse Cindy, of Bristolville, and Connie Cunningham, of West Farmington; brothers and sisters, Harry, of Dellslow, Donald, of Warren, Ronald, of Boston, Robert, of Morgantown, Vivian Pugh, of Cheat Lake, Shirley Cordwell, of Morgantown, and Karen Webb, of Maryland; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, whom he married June 9, 1951, Mary E. Dennis, on July 1, 2000; a daughter, Susan Wolfe, and a brother, Denis Wolfe. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Russell Golden Rule Funeral Home, 275 E. Main St., Route 88, West Farmington, Ohio. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, West Farmington. Eleanor Reynolds Gibson
Word has been received of the death of Eleanor Reynolds Gibson, 94, of Morgantown, on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 4, 1906, near Flemington, Taylor County, daughter of the late Wayland Fuller and Inez Brohard Reynolds. She was a granddaughter of the late Dr. P.B. Reynolds, professor, acting president and first dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of West Virginia University and pastor of the First Baptist Church. She was a niece of the late Mabel Reynolds Glasscock, one of the first women to enter WVU. A 1924 graduate of Grafton High School, she received her bachelor's degree in chemistry from WVU in 1929. She was an active member of the WVU Campus Club for more than 60 years and the Ingleside Book Club for 33 years. She was long an active member of the First Baptist Church of Morgantown, and Philathea Sunday School class. She served as bookkeeper for the Girl Scouts and later was a Sewing Workshop Leader for 4-H in Monongalia County. She and her husband were longtime members of the Morgantown Camera Club and the Mason-Dixon Park Association. She was an extraordinary wife, mother and homemaker. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Dr. James H. and Jean H. Gibson, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dr. William A. and Mary C. Gibson, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Dr. Joan R. Gibson, of Morgantown; a granddaughter and spouse, Lynn G. and Roger A. Karlson, of Carpinteria, Calif.; and three grandsons, Dale H. Gibson, of Denver, Michael C. Gibson, of Knoxville, and John D. Gibson, of Griffin, Ga. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. John A. Gibson Jr., in 1989; a sister, Vivian Reynolds Boughter in 1978; and two brothers, Dr. Carroll F. Reynolds in 1975 and Dana D. Reynolds in 1990. Friends may call at Dering's Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 until the 11 a.m. service with the Rev.
