John Calvin Colebank, 54, of Route 3, Turner Road, Grafton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at home.
He was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Grafton, son of the late George Calvin and Ada J. Lantz Colebank.
He was a social worker and alcohol and drug counselor with Valley Health Care in Morgantown. He earned his bachelor's degree from Fairmont State College and his master's in social work from WVU, and was a member of West Virginia Drug and Alcohol Counselors and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Diana J. Barnes Colebank; a son, Michael C. Colebank, at home; a daughter, Mary Frances Colebank, of Provo, Utah; and a sister, Frances Laulis, of Grafton.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles 'Troy' Colebank and David John Colebank, and a sister, Jean Ann Colebank.

Catherine R. Smith, 73, of Beech Street, Grafton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at United Hospital Center, after a brief illness.
She was born March 2, 1926, in Cleveland, daughter of the late Ralph K. and Addie Helwig Becker.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine V. Smith, of Grafton.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Smith, on Nov. 2, 1997; a son, Gregory G. Baker; a brother, Ralph K. Becker Jr.; and two sisters, Jane M. Becker and Lois H. Becker.

John Paul Lemley II
John Paul Lemley II, 20, of Burton, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, from injuries in a vehicle accident late Friday near Metz.
He was born July 16, 1979, in Fairmont, son of John P. and Sherry Carpenter Lemley, of Burton.
He was a 1997 graduate of Hundred High School, where he was a member of the baseball and football teams for four years. He was a construction worker and a member of Laborers Local 789, Richmond, Va. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and riding his Harley and his four-wheeler.
He is also survived by a sister and spouse, Stephanie and Bob Ash, of Lumberport; a niece, Carly Marie Ash, of Lumberport; maternal grandmother, Marie Carpenter Williams, of Lumberport; paternal grandparents, Wayne E. and Elizabeth Lemley, of Hundred; and three uncles, Jerry Carpenter, of Shinnston, Carl Lemley, of Sistersville, and Bill Lemley, of Hundred.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gearold Carpenter, and maternal stepgrandfather, Perry Williams.

Ethel King, 90, of Fairview, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Wishing Well Health Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1908, at Flat Run, Marion County, daughter of the late Simon and Vianna J. Jones Mayfield.
She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Fairview, WCTU and WSCS. She enjoyed quilting and baking, worked in church activities, and was a custodian at Fairmont State College.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Reed King; two sons and a spouse, Wendell and Betty King, of Courtland, Ohio, and Weldon King, of Fairview; a daughter and spouse, Gwendolyn and Steve Konya, of Fairmont; two sisters, Marie Batson, of Barrackville, and Mrs. Junior (Ruby) McCann, of Mannington; five grandchildren, Christina Zukowsky, Steve Konya II, Holly Swartz, Kelly Boggia and Kristal King; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Emmitt Mayfield, Otis Mayfield and Leo Mayfield, and five sisters, Ines Mayfield, Cresse Mayfield, Bessie Taylor, Pearl Blatt and Opal Arthur.

Gary Joe Swecker
Gary Joe Swecker, 55, of Barker Avenue, Morgantown, a mathematics teacher at Morgantown High School, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1944, in Valley Head, son of the late Kent R. and Floda E. Kyle Swecker.
He attended Suncrest United Methodist Church, Drummond Chapel Campus. He was a West Virginia University graduate. He taught mathematics in the Monongalia County School System for 19 years at Suncrest Middle School and for 10 years at MHS.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Shoulders Swecker; a daughter and spouse, Sharmon Y. and J. Wesley Sebree, of Cincinnati; a son and spouse, Aaron L. and Gretchen W. Swecker, of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Jacob W. Sebree and J. William Sebree, both of Cincinnati; two sisters, Lucy S. Goodman and Yvonne K. Clatterbuck, both of Berkeley Springs; and three brothers, Bayard L. John Earl Getz
John Earl 'Johnny' Getz, 68, of Grafton Road, Morgantown, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Grafton, son of the late Earl and Grace Edith Ridenour Getz.
He worked at Sterling Faucet in Reedsville for 19 years and in strip mining, and retired from West Virginia University. He was a graduate of Grafton High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was well-known as a rabbit breeder, raising and showing rabbits for many years. He was Protestant.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Erma Dalton Getz; two sons and spouses, Mike and Kathy Getz and Dave and Twylla Getz, all of Morgantown; a sister, Rosemary Moore, of Flemington; two brothers, Kenneth Getz and Norman Getz, both of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Maxine Getz, of Mims, Fla.; and four grandchildren, John Getz, Jeremy Getz, Charlotte Getz and Trever Getz, all of Morgantown.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Getz.

Carroll 'Pete' Greene, 93, of Kenna, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Jackson General Hospital.
He was born in Jackson County, son of the late Perry and Mattie B. Crow Greene.
He is survived locally by two grandchildren, Benjie Greene, of Morgantown, and Amber Parsons, a WVU student.

Milford A. Bolyard, 95, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Heartland of Preston County.
He was born Nov. 28, 1903, in Hutchinson, Kan., son of the late Alphfus F. and Alice Smith Bolyard.
He was a coal miner and railroad worker.
He is survived by his second wife, Ethel Susan Huffman Bolyard, of Newburg; three sons and spouses, James Leslie and Rosalie Bolyard, of Newburg, Franklin and Ann Bolyard, of Cavesprings, Ark., and Donald and Laura Bolyard, of Mount Storm; three daughters, Velma D. and husband Russell B. Cale, of Reedsville, Genevieve Strawser, of Newburg, and Ellen Lingle, of Baltimore; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sarah Katherine 'Nana' Nicklow, 85, of Green Hill Road, McMinnville, Tenn., formerly of Canyon, near Morgantown, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in McMinnville.
She was born March 20, 1914, in Morgantown, daughter of the late John F. and Bessie L. Howell Wilson.
She was formerly a cook at Central Restaurant, Morgantown, and at West Virginia University. She was a member of Canyon Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two sons, William D. Nicklow, of Cleveland, and James Nicola (Nicklow), of Columbus, Ga.; a daughter and spouse, Mary Ella and Charles Conners, of McMinnville; two brothers, John F. Wilson, of Morgantown, and Francis C. Wilson, of Cleveland; four sisters, Mary E. Swearinger and Luella G. Johnson, both of Morgantown, Hattie B. Rowe, of Greensburg, Pa., and Ora F. Wise, of Mass.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Nicklow, in 1957; a son, Edward F. Howell; two sisters, Icy J. Long and Alice B. Kirk; and a brother, James E. Wilson.

August Angelini, 81, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa.
He was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Large, Pa., son of the late Frank and Josephine DeRosa Angelini.
He owned and operated Angelini's Hardware for about 45 years, and last worked at Dry Tavern True Value Hardware until 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Sophia Krivosky Angelini, whom he married Nov. 16, 1939; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas C. (Myra J.) Reeves, of Carmichaels, and Mrs. William E. (Nancy L.) Hassan, of Henderson, Nev.; four grandchildren, Thomas D. Reeves, Timothy E. Reeves, Stacie Brown and Ryan Torbic; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Angelini, of Rices Landing, Pa.; and a sister, Mrs. Aladino (Rose) Burchianti, of Masontown, Pa.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Egidi.

Gladys Martha Piper, 96, of Central Avenue, Morgantown, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Windy Hill Manor, Kingwood.
She was born June 26, 1903, in Preston County, daughter of the late Jacob Daniel and Myttlena Bradshaw Taylor.
She was a mother and homemaker, and a member of Sabra United Methodist Church, Jerome Park.
She is survived by two sons and spouses, Paul and Ardith Piper, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Arthur and Ann Piper, of Morgantown; a daughter, Nora Althea 'Boo' White Powell, of Morgantown; two grandsons, Michael Forman Piper and Paul T. 'Junior' White II; and four great-grandchildren, Anthony Piper, Joanna White, Jessica White and Paul T. White III.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Menear, and her second husband, Marshall Forman Piper, in July 1993.

Betty Stevens Barnett
Betty Lucille Stevens Barnett, 64, of Beulah Road, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at MonPointe Continuing Care Center.
She was born Sept. 8, 1935, in Uffington, daughter of Kathleen Stevens Hall, of Point Marion, Pa., and the late Paul Stevens.
She was a homemaker and was Methodist.
She is also survived by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Barnett; four sons and spouses, Paul Eugene and Susan Barnett, Kenneth Grover and Vicki Barnett, Mark Carl and Sandy Barnett and Larry Alen and Debbie Barnett, all of Gladesville Road; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Oran Hall; a sister, Mary Yoskovich; and a granddaughter, Brittany Amber Barnett.

Don Roderick, former mayor of Westover
Folks in the city Don Roderick once led remember him for the way he cared about Westover and its people, and for his efforts to get a new city building built.
Roderick, a former mayor who spent 15 years on the Monongalia General Hospital Board, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at home, after a heart attack. He was 67.
'I've known him for a number of years,' said current Mayor Joe Bartolo, a former Monongalia County sheriff who knew him when Roderick was working for the state Tax Department. 'I was just out with him. We went out this week and we were working on the roads. He cared about people in the city of Westover.'
Joe Janco, also a former mayor, said that although he and Roderick 'never mingled,' 'I have to give him a lot of credit for organizing the original committee for the Westover city building.'
Sheila Landis, another former mayor who served on City Council when Roderick was mayor, said that's what she remembers him for, too.
'It wasn't completed, but it was done and we were able to move in June 7, 1992,' Landis said.
Roderick participated in church activities at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member.
Council member Mike Kelly, a member of the same church, said, 'I just knew him from living in Westover and being mayor. He always was a good guy. Any time you needed help in any project, he was gung-ho, ready to go.'
Kelly said they went to different Masses (Roderick attended on Saturday evenings), but 'he was always there to help' at church projects.
Roderick was born June 21, 1931, at Rubles Mill, Pa., son of the late Glenn and Alma King Roderick.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary J. Donnelly Roderick; a daughter and spouse, Carol R. and Val Laub, of Uniontown, Pa.; two grandsons, Craig and Vaughn Roderick Laub, both of Uniontown; three brothers, Glenn Roderick and Irvin Roderick, both of Smithfield, Pa., and Jack Roderick, of Cleveland; and four sisters, Blanche Wilson, Rachel Neverdale, Lemoine Cooley and Annette Pavlick, all of Smithfield.

Elizabeth Martin, 88, of Bobtown, Pa., died unexpectedly Thursday, May 6, 1999, at home.
She was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Connellsville, Pa., daughter of the late Clark and Ella Lininger Collins.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, and was office manager for the former Pittsburgh Mercantile Co., Bobtown.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Stephen Martin, whom she married March 4, 1946; two sons, Joel Martin, of Los Angeles, and Paul Martin, of Bobtown; and two nephews, W. Clark Draper, of Low Hill, Pa., and James F. Collins, of Bobtown.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Collins Draper, and a brother, Roger Lane Collins.

Steve Hunchuck
Steve Hunchuck, 86, of R.D. 1, Greensboro, Pa., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Oliphant Furnace, Pa., son of the late Martin and Marie Hunchuck.
He was Catholic, worked as a coal miner from 1929-69, and retired from Duquesne Light. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, served in the European Theater and received a Bronze Star, and was a member of UMWA Local 6310 and the VFW, both in Greensboro.
He is survived by two children and a spouse, Daniel Hunchuck, of Greensboro, and Patricia and Terry Fowler, of Dilliner, Pa.; four grandchildren, Terry S. Fowler, Sherri Gardner, Dimea Hunchuck and Emily Hunchuck; two brothers, Frank Hunchuck, of Cleveland, and Joe Hunchuck, of Masontown, Pa.; and two sisters, Helen Hunchuck, of New Jersey, and Pauline Bezjak, of Cleveland.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith G. Hunchuck, in August 1992, and a brother, Mike Hunchuck.

Arthur Frank Boyce, 81, of Thornton, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 23, 1918, in Preston County, son of the late Lewis Isaac and Ethel Wilda Boyce.
He retired as a coal miner from the big Joe's Mines.
He is survived by his former wife, Mildred Moon Boyce; a daughter, Shirley McVicker; seven grandchildren, Treasa Syruws, Jeff McVicker, Brian McVicker, Terri McVicker, Jerry LaRue, Jerry Boyce and Bobby Boyce; and several great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Boyce and Jerry Boyce, and a brother, Benjamin Boyce.

He was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Elkins, son of the late Pete and Maggie Morrison Weese.
He retired as a custodian from WVU and had worked at the Chaplin and Edna Gas Coal mines. He was Methodist.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Mildred Wisman, of Morgantown; two sisters, Clarie Hardman and Winnie Demoss, both of Ohio; a sister-in-law, Helen Tunder, of Morgantown; his longtime companion, Fayedeane Smerka; two adopted daughters and spouses, Grace and Larry Knisell, of Westover, and Gladys and Kenneth Walls, of Grafton Road; three adopted sons and spouses, John and Janet Smerka, of Grafton Road, Billy and Annamarie Smerka, of Westover, and Robert Smerka, of Granville; nine adopted grandchildren, John Allen Smerka, Crystal Smerka, Sheri Smerka, Billy Smerka, Jamie Knisell, Chuck Knisell, Jennifer Walls, Stacey Walls and Kenny Walls; and close friend, Jenene Cunningham, of Westover.

Wilda H. 'Jake' Tennant, 78, of Bula, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Daybrook, son of the late Otis and Rowena Simpson Tennant.
He retired as a pipeline worker. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66-B, in Pittsburgh, was affiliated with Daybrook Church of Christ and was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, C. Pauline Kinty Tennant; a son and spouse, Bill and Arietta Tennant, of Blacksville; a daughter and spouse, Jane and Danny Church, of Mount Morris, Pa.; a brother, Virgil Tennant, of Westover; a sister, Betty Bollinger, of Hyattsville, Md.; five grandchildren, Tammy Varner, Kimberly Sullivan, Tiffany Durst, Todd Foley and Beth Rowena Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Travis Watson, Colby Watson, Danielle Varner, Hailee Foley and Brody Varner.
