Vera Guesman Teegarden, 90, of Rices Landing, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born June 1, 1911, in Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., daughter of the late Harry William and Nola May Guesman Guesman. She lived in Rices Landing all her life and was a member of Hewitt Presbyterian Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a son, Ronald Lee Teegarden, of Rices Landing; and a grandson, Thomas Travis Teegarden. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion F. Teegarden, in 1981; a son, Carlton Travis Teegarden; a brother, Wilbur R. Guesman; and two sisters, Inez Johns and Maxine Christopher. Merle Bessie Tustin
Merle Bessie Tustin, 82, of Mannington, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Dent's Run, Mannington, daughter of the late Shirley Henry and Hannah Virginia Satterfield Hayes. She was a homemaker and Baptist. She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Donna Fern and James Yost, of Mannington; a son and spouse, Gary and Dollie Tustin, of Mannington; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Dixie Tustin, of Rimersburg, Pa. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Tustin, on May 14, 1979; a son, Shirley Carl Tustin; five brothers, Cecil Hayes, Glenn Hayes, Kenneth Hayes, Clem Lee Hayes and Harold Hayes; and a sister, Madge Gallagher. Cecilia Sequence Jolliffe
Cecilia Sequence Jolliffe, 86, of Dille Street, Morgantown, died Nov. 8, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Lemont Furnace, Pa., daughter of the late Martin and Anna Sequence. She retired from Seneca Glass after 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Ursula's RCC. She is survived by her brother and spouse, George and Mary Sequence, of Morgantown; two godchildren, Barbara Snyder, and Bill Pavone, both of Morgantown; and her caretaker, Penny Fisher, of Fairmont. Gertrude Ann Musick
Gertrude Ann Musick, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. She was born March 6, 1920, in Howesville, daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica Halko Zuchowski. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. She is survived by a son and spouse, Mike and Diane Musick, of Hagerstown; a daughter, Delores Musick Strawser, of Hagerstown; a brother, James Zuchowski, of Tunnelton; three sisters and spouse, Marguerite Marrara, of Kingwood, Edna Zuchowski and Dorothy and Dale Newcome, all of Tunnelton; a sister-in-law, Edna Zuchowski, of Kingwood; five grandchildren, Christopher Musick, Andrea Jackson, Andrew Musick, Tommy Strawser and Cynthia Atkins; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Andrew Zuchowski and John P. Zuchowski; a sister, Valeria Cecilia Paterson; four brothers-in-law, Joseph Marrara Sr., Charles Miller, Robert "Pat" Anderson and Raymond Layton; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Zuchowski. Clyde C. Cale Sr.
Clyde C. Cale Sr., 80, of Bruceton Mills, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Hudson, Preston County, son of the late Charles Clinton Cale and Maggie Dailey Cale Bunion Huff. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific with the 113th Ordnance Company. He retired from Borg-Warner Chemicals in 1985 with 17 years of service, and had also worked at Morgantown Ordnance Works, Hayden Chemical, Olin Mathison, Murphy's Garage and Kingwood Mining Co. He attended schools in Hudson, Hopewell, Bruceton and Huntington. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Naomi Bird Cale, of Bruceton Mills; a son, Clyde Charles Cale Jr., of Bruceton Mills; two grandchildren, Jason Cale and Camilla McMillen; and two half brothers, Harry Bunion, of Minnesota, and Hubert Bunion, of Ironton, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lester Newton Cale, William Gaylord "Gay" Cale, Emmett Eugene Cale and Everett E. Cale; and four sisters, Lillian Evelyn Brown, Elsa Oletta Brand, Ruby Ethelyn Cale and Thelma Alice Soucy. Friends may call at Carl R. Ruth Stewart Carter
Ruth Stewart Carter, 85, of Philip Street, Morgantown, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Lee County, Va., daughter of the late Emmitt I. and Mollie Riddle Stewart. She retired in 1983 as an elementary school principal, and spent 40 years at schools in Monongalia County, Logan County and Lee County, Virginia. She held a bachelor's degree from Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston), and was awarded a master's from WVU. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Society. She also held memberships in the Elementary School Principals Association, the National Education Association and the West Virginia Education Association. She is survived by two sons, Alexander Carter, of Annapolis, Md., and Tony M. and his wife, Judith Jolliff Carter, of Springfield, Ill.; two daughters, Nancy C. Gaspar and her husband, William, of Phoenix, and Deborah C. Ryan, of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Mollie Carter, Grant Carter, Emily Gaspar, Matthew Gaspar, Jaime Ryan and Jesse Ryan; two sisters, Waive Robbins, of Tucson, Ariz., and Osta Creech, of Sarasota, Fla. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Flo Reasor; and two brothers, Roy Stewart and Truman Stewart. Myrtle Mae Wagner
Myrtle Mae Wagner, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at the Wallace B. Murphy Nursing Care facility in Grafton. She was born in Grafton, Aug. 16, 1909, daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Rose Anne Poling Ridenour. She was a homemaker and was active in the Salvation Army for 50 years. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Wagner, of Grafton; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Wagner, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Mike and John Felton, of Grafton, Duane Felton, and David Wagner, both of Tampa, Fla., and Karen Krison, of Clearwater, Fla.; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Luther Edson Wagner Sr., on March 27, 1981; two sons, Richard Wagner and Luther Wagner Jr.; two sisters, Lillian Nicola and Grace Getz; three brothers, Ray E., Roy L. and Charles Ridenour; and a grandson, Richard Felton. Thomas E. Weaver
Thomas E. Weaver, 71, of Route 3, Grafton, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. He was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Shelmar, Md., son of the late George H. and Agnes Shaw Weaver. He was a retired carman from CSX Railway after 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He belonged to Grafton Lodge 15 AF&AM, Demolay Chapter 11 of the Knights Templar, Copestone Chapter 12 RAM, and the Nemesis Temple o f Parkersburg. He was a lifetime and charter member of the Taylor County Shrine Club and Naomi Chapter 12 OES. He attended the First Grace Brethren Church of Grafton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mildred B. Poling Weaver; two daughters and spouse, Diane Weavers and Brenda and Sean Vance; a son and spouse, Larry and Michelle Weaver; a daughter-in-law, Karen S. Weaver; six grandchildren, Heather and Heidi Vance, Matthew and Justin Weaver, and Seth and Kristen Weaver, all of Grafton; two sisters, Loretta Shackelford, of Grafton, and Barbara Canfield, of Fairmont; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Weaver, of Fairmont. Doris Butcher Snyder
Doris Eleanor Butcher Snyder, 73, of Callen Avenue, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Blacksville, daughter of the late William A. and Pearl Kinsley Shuman. She was Methodist. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Fairmont State College in 1955, and a master's degree in education from WVU in 1960. She worked in the Monongalia public school system for 30 years, having taught elementary school at Jerome Park, Chestnut Ridge and North Elementary schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, National Education Association, West Virginia Education Association, Monongalia County Education Association, and the West Virginia Alumni Association. She is survived by a son and a spouse, John M. and Cathy Butcher Sr., of Morgantown; two daughters and spouses, Kathy L. Snyder and George E. Roeder III, of Morgantown, and Elizabeth A. and James R. Reese, of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, John M. Butcher Jr., and Zachary S. Roeder; and a granddaughter, Erica L. Butcher. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Dorothy Jane Battisti
Dorothy Jane Battisti, 77, of Point Marion, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 12, 1924, in Gans, Pa., daughter of the late James and Sarah Holmes Huntley. She worked 19 years as a bus driver for Gugliotti Bus Lines in the Southeastern Greene County (Pa.) School District. She attended Fairchance Apostolic Revival Center, where she was active in the ladies auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert "Dub" Battisti; two daughters, Bobbie Jean Sapp, of Markleysburg, Pa., and Bonna Musick, of Morgantown; five grandchildren, Robbie Sapp, Tony Sapp, Curtis VanSickle, Robert "Dubby" Sapp and Dorothy Donham; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn VanSickle, of Napoleon, Mich. Hazel V. Jenkins
Hazel V. Jenkins, 85, of Kingwood, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood. She was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Centenary, daughter of the late John E. and Frances Spiker Jenkins. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Kingwood. She graduated from Bruceton High School in 1934 and attended Fairmont Business College. In March 1936, she began working in the Preston County Clerk's office as an assistant. In January 1957, upon the death of P.F. King, she was appointed county clerk. She was elected for two terms and retired Dec. 31, 1974. After retirement, she volunteered as treasurer of Wesley United Methodist Women's Group for 10 years, was treasurer of Wesley United Methodist Church for several years, and served as treasurer for Friends of Kingwood Public Library. She is survived by two sisters and a spouse, Grace and Scott Fearer, of Lancaster, Pa., and Ruth Jackson, of Centenary; a nephew, Melvin Jackson; two nieces, Judy Brivchik and Karen Galloway; and two close friends, Diane Stanton and Arlene Whetsell, of Kingwood. Ralph Vernon Efaw
Ralph Vernon Efaw, 74, of Flat Run Community, Mannington, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at home. He was born June 14, 1927, in Flat Run, son of the late Archie Lee and Lillian Fisher Efaw. He was a member of the Mannington Church of Christ. He was retired from West Virginia Armature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He is survived by two sons and spouses, Roger E. and Alice Faye Efaw, and Larry Alan and C. Renee Efaw, all of Mannington; two daughters and a spouse, Beverly Sue and Gary Wayne Fluharty, of Rachel, and Terry Ann Efaw, of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 18 grandchildren; a sister, Rosaline "Tiny" Gooch, of Campbells Run, Metz; and a brother, Kenneth E. Ethel Ellen Fullmer
Ethel Ellen Fullmer, 95, formerly of Monongalia Avenue, Woodburn, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Morgan Manor. She was born Oct. 11, 1906, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Silas Walter and Effie Casteel St. Clair. She worked as a nurse's aide for 25 years at the St. Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Morgantown. She was a lifelong member of Suncrest United Methodist Church Drummond Chapel Campus. She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Barbara and Don Gallagher, of Bethel Park, Pa., and Shirley and Roger Kiernan, of Morgantown; a son and spouse, Frank and Barbara Fullmer, of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Plummer Lee Woody
Plummer Lee Woody, 67, of Pond Road, Morgantown, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at home. He was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Morgantown, son of the late Jesse and Edna Hall Woody. He was Protestant and attended churches including the Church of God Family Bible on Mountain View Road. He retired after working for 30 years at Greer Limestone. He was a loving father and husband and enjoyed the outdoors with his family, hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lula Belle Dalton Woody; four sons and spouses, Richard "Dick" and Joyce Woody, Kenny and Jennifer Woody, all of Morgantown, Jeff and Lisa Woody, of Worthington, and Plummer Lee Woody Jr., at home; a daughter and spouse, Edna Gail and Jerry Dalton, of Kingwood Pike; three brothers and spouses, James and Darlene Woody, and Jesse Woody, all of Kingwood Pike, Sam and Frances Woody, of Reedsville; four sisters and spouses, Dorothy and Ray Wall, of Pennsylvania, Mary "Rennie" Baucan, of Pond Road, Jeanie and Donald Hertzog, of Morgantown, and Sandy and Rob Scherer, of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mary Ruth Jack
Mary Ruth Jack, 66, of West Run Road, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Sutton, daughter of the late Lee and Gladys Simmons Dennison. She was a member of Harner Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgantown, where she was a member of the Harner Chapel Senior Group, the Worship Committee and the Prayer Chain. She worked for the West Virginia State Tax Department. She also had worked with the WVU School of Mines and First Federal Savings and Loan. She retired in 1991 as a receptionist at Ruby Memorial Hospital. While working at Ruby Memorial, she was awarded Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year certificates. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Robert L. "Bob" Jack, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Pamela Jo and Brian Wilburn, of Flatwoods; a granddaughter, Hannah Lee Wilburn, of Flatwoods; a brother and spouse, George and Rose Ann Dennison, of Sutton; and longtime friends, the Rev. Tenn. prof, WVU alumnus dies at 94
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Willis C. Tucker, a longtime professor who started the University of Tennessee's journalism program in the 1940s, died in a Texas nursing home Friday. He was 94. Tucker, who held a master's degree from West Virginia University, served the University of Tennessee for 27 years. He directed the School of Journalism from 1957 until 1972, including during the school's expansion into the College of Communications in 1969. Kelly Leiter, the college's dean emeritus, remembered Tucker as a ''quiet, self-effacing man'' and demanding editor ''who could spot a typo ... or a misplaced comma at 100 paces.'' Tucker served for some years on the executive committee of the American Association of Schools and Departments of Journalism and the steering committee of the Hearst Foundation awards in journalism.

Freddie David Sine
Freddie David Sine, 69, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Daybrook, son of the late Jacob L. and Mirtle Belle Wright Sine. He was a retired coal miner from Consolidated Coal Co., Humphrey No. 7 mine, was a member of UMWA Local 1058, and attended the Crusade for Jesus Apostolic Church, near Point Marion, Pa. He is survived by his wife, Ada M. "Sue" Sine; a son and spouse, David A. and Lori Ridob-Sine, of Reedsville; three stepchildren and a spouse, Mary and Martin Hubeaut, and Paul Salisbury, all of Point Marion, and Linda Evans, of Middleburgh, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Tammy Sue Raymond, of Maryland, Bethany Hubeaut, of Point Marion, Mark Sangston, of New York, and Shelby Salisbury, of Charleston; and two sisters and a spouse, Betty and Dick Spiker, of Morgantown, and Norma Jean Kennedy, of Laureal Point. Wayne Hall Kramer
Wayne Hall Kramer, 64, of Catawba Community died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at home. He was born Feb. 7, 1937 in Smithtown, son of Violet Hall Kramer, of Smithtown, and the late Allen Meredith Kramer. He was a meat cutter by trade and had worked at Bunner's Grocery Store in Fairmont for 23 years. He later worked at Harry's Superette in Morgantown and Fancher's Meats in Harrison County. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 9 of Fairmont. He served with the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the USS Coral Sea and the USS Shangri La. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He is also survived by his wife of 36 years, Janet Morton Kramer; two sons and spouses, John and Linda Kramer, of Virginia, and Joseph and Crystal Kramer, of Catawba; two brothers, Sam Kramer of Florida, and Baltzer Kramer of Smithtown; a sister and spouse, Nancy and Bob Rose, of Florida; two grandchildren, Justin Kramer and Meghan Kramer; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Long; and a brother, John Kramer. Murven 'Pete' Long
Murven "Pete" Long, 64, of Warm Hollow Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1936, in Rock, son of the late Derexal and Carman Poff Long. He worked 43 years at Consol's Humphrey No. 7 mine, and retired as an outside heavy equipment operator. He was a member of UMWA District 31, Local 1058, where he had also served on the mine committee. He was Protestant. He is survived by his wife, Kareen Dove Long; four sons, William Long, of Smithfield, Pa., Derexal Long, of Massachusetts, Ronald Long, of Morgantown, and Donald Long, of Elkins; four stepdaughters, Rhonda Marshall, Kimberly Barnett, Kelley Brooks, and Patricia Britt, all of Morgantown; and 13 grandchildren. Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m Friday, Nov. 30, and from 7 p.m. until the 8:30 p.m. service, with the Rev. Dr. Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be Saturday at Rock Cemetery, in Rock, at the convenience of the family.

Ora Marguerite Lee
Ora Marguerite Lee, 75, of Morgantown, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born March 30, 1926, in Huntington, daughter of the late Harry S. and Imogene Blethen. She was a member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a graduate of Marshall University and received her master's degree in medical science at West Virginia University. She was a teacher at Morgantown High School, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Monongalia County Choral Union, and a volunteer at University Hospital, Monongalia County Hospice and Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her husband, Harold A. Lee; two sons and a spouse, Richard A. "Ricky" Lee, of Morgantown, and Henry A. and Margaret T. Lee, of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Oliver, Elizabeth, Samuel and Benjamin Lee; a brother, Dr. Harry Blethen, of California; three sisters, Mary Ann Marples, of Annadale, Va., and Edna Gene Blethen and Nancy Louise Britt, both of Dayton, Ohio; and a daughter-in-law, Tava Lee, of Morgantown. Betty Jane McCartney
Betty Jane McCartney, 75, of Grafton, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Grafton City Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Monongalia County, daughter of the late Louie and Lelia Motter Newbraugh. She was a housewife and a member of VFW Post 3081 and American Legion Post 12. She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Patty and Nelson Buckingham, of Rowlesburg, and Janie Lea and John Ives, of Thornton; a son, Edwin L. McCartney Jr., of Kent, Ohio; a brother and spouse, Frank Dale and Betty Newbraugh, of Lorain, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Lee McCartney, and two brothers, Carl Thomas and Lonnie Newbraugh Jr. Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 4-9 p.m. Saturday. Thelma Marie Hartley
Thelma Marie Fox Hartley, 86, of Mount Morris, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at home. She was born May 8, 1915, in Brock, Pa., daughter of the late Daisy Moore Fox and Newton Fox. She spent her entire life in Perry Township, Pa. She was Methodist. She enjoyed gardening, having put a garden in until she was 85. She was also an avid quilter and homemaker. She is survived by three sons, Edward Carl Hartley, and James Harold Hartley, both of Mount Morris, and John Hartley, of Ruff Creek, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Randy Hartley, Jimmy Hartley, Roger Hartley, James Michael Hartley, Rodney Hartley, Janelle Hartley, and Jocelyn Hartley; four great-grandchildren, Curtis Hartley, T.J. Hartley, Bradley Hartley, and Rachel Hartley; a great-great-granddaughter, Prudence Hartley; and a sister, Jeanette Anderson, of Mount Morris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Hartley, whom she married Sept. 15, 1934, on Sept. 15, 1999; a daughter, Shirley Hartley, in infancy; and two brothers, Homer Fox, and Lindsey R. Fox.
