Kenneth Beatty Wolfe
Kenneth Beatty 'K.B.' Wolfe, 74, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Morgantown, son of the late Kenneth Gaston and Miriam Ruth Beatty Wolfe. He was a member of Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church for 52 years. He was a 1943 graduate of Morgantown High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired after 32 years with C&P Telephone Co. He was a past secretary/treasurer of Morgantown Men's Bowling Association, was an active member of Telephone Pioneers and was a substitute driver for Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martina 'Rene' Wolfe; two sons and spouses, Roger Louis and Lisa Wolfe, of Morgantown, and Randolph Lee and Tami Wolfe, of Richmond, Va.; three brothers and spouses, Leonard and Mary Alice Wolfe, of Searcy, Ark., Lawrence and Linda Wolfe, of Dallas, Texas, and Franklin and Norma Wolfe, of Morgantown; a sister, Martha McCormick, of Bobtown, Pa.; and three grandchildren and spouse, Robert Kenneth and Kristie Wolfe, Matthew Dale Wolfe, and Krista Lynn Wolfe, and a gr eat-granddaughter, Kennedy Paige Wolfe, all of Morgantown. Helen Gertrude Michael Tennant, 84, formerly of Daybrook and Fairmont Arbors, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Wishing Well Health Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1914, at Fairview, daughter of the late Learney and Bertha Mae Wilson Tennant. She is survived by a son and spouse, Ralph and June Michael, of Fairview; a daughter and spouse, Linda and Allen VanGilder, of Morgantown; four stepchildren and spouses, Kester and Louise Tennant, of Fairview, Jack and Louise Tennant, of Westover, Jim and Frankie Tennant, of Ravenswood, and Fred and Jeanie Tennant, of Reedsville; five brothers, Learney Tennant Jr. and Dwayne Tennant, both of Blacksville, Homer Tennant and Billy J. Tennant, both of Fairview, and Stanley Tennant, of Fairmont; four sisters , Marjorie Kiger, of Fairmont, Violet Conner, of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Lloyd (Mavis) Lantz, of Fairview, and Jean Berry, of Mount Morris, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Cheryl Michael and Christopher Layman. Vernon R. James, 88, of South Charleston, formerly of Morgantown, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. He was retired as a printer and had worked at Morgantown Press, West Virginia Legislature and Jarrett Printing, Charleston. He was born in Clarksburg and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, South Charleston, the Masons, Beni Kedem Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies. He is survived by his wife, Mable M. Bennett James; a daughter, Susanne Straight, of South Charleston; a son, Dick Bennett, of St. Albans; two sisters, Mary Alice James, of Fairfax, Va., and Eleanor Jean Frye, of Elijay, Ga.; and five grandchildren. Theodore 'Ted' Falfas
Theodore 'Ted' Falfas, 72, of Morgantown, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Arnold, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Ann Falfas. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Star City. He was a graduate of University High School and Morgantown Business College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in Japan. He was manager of Jerry's Auto Supply from 1949-67 and manager of Cohen Furniture from 1966 to its recent closing. He was a member of Elks Lodge 411 and VFW Post 548, Morgantown. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Lee Falfas; a daughter and spouse, Sandra and James Joyner, of Westover; a son and spouse, Jack and Barbara J. Falfas, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a sister, Stephanie Dillon, of Newark, Ohio; an aunt, Mitzie Morgan, of Morgantown; and five grandchildren and a spouse, Kara and O.G. Cline, J.T. Clark W. Root Jr., 66, of Williams Road, Morgantown, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at The Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 1, 1933, in Oakland, Md., son of the late Clark W. Sr. and Lucy Bell McCroby Root. He was retired as a coal miner and was Protestant. He is survived by a brother, Roy Root, of Kingwood; a sister, Iris Lucabaugh, of Manchester, Pa; and his companion, Macel Crites. He was also preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister. John McArthur Heinze
John McArthur Heinze, 57, of Dellslow, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1942, in Morgantown, son of the late George R. Sr. and Anna Mae Rosnick Heinze. He was a heavy equipment operator for Mill Run Enterprises, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his wife, Orita Rogers Heinze; two stepsons, Randy Lee Blosser, of Pursglove, and Ronald Lee Blosser Jr., of Florida; a stepdaughter, Carol Bee, of Aarons Creek Road; a brother, Robert Lee Heinze, of Sabraton; four sisters, Susan Marie Ginther, of Butte, Mont., Eliza Margaret Costello, of Kingwood Pike, Rosalie Ann Sanders, of Snake Hill Road, and Joann Carol Johnson, of Core; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. William W. Likins, 55, of Rowlesburg (Manheim community), died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Hopemont. He was born May 23, 1944, in Tunnelton, son of Wilma L. Pyles, of Rowlesburg, and the late Lester W. Likins. He was a mason and carpenter for Preston County Board of Education. He was a member of Mud Splash Hunt Club, was an avid hunter and was Methodist. He is also survived by his wife of 35 years, Lynn Nice Likins; two daughters and spouses, Coleen and David Messenger, of Tunnelton, and Kelly and Rick Myers, of Aurora; two brothers, 'Lefty' Likins, of Rowlesburg, and Neal Likins, of Kingwood; a sister, Rosemary Waybright, of Rowlesburg; and a grandson, Zachary Messenger. Louis Slock Cavrich, of Fairmont, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999. He was born in Four States, son of the late George and Mary Kirkovich Cavrich. He was a prominent businessman. He owned Slock Downtowner. He was an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the New St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, Fairmont. He was a professional boxer. He is survived by his wife, Martha Irene Cavrich; a brother, John Cavrich, of Fairmont; and a sister, Mary Cavrich Vingle, of Fairmont. She was born June 18, 1948, in Fairmont, daughter of Mary Keener Hawkinberry, of Monongah, and the late Clarence Hawkinberry. She was a resident of Stonewood Home for 10 years, attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Stonewood, and loved music. She is also survived by a brother and spouse, David and Kim Hawkinberry, of Fairmont; two sisters and a spouse, her twin, Carol Jean Hacker, of Fairmont, and Lou Ann and Thomas Posten, of Barrackville; and six nieces and nephews, Christopher Hacker, Jamie Hacker, Ryan Kisner, Kayla Kisner, Christian Hawkinberry and Caleb Hawkinberry. She was born Feb. 7, 1915, in Mount Clare, daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Mascar Loretta. She was a homemaker, and had been employed by St. Mary's Hospital and Harbert's Drug Store, in Clarksburg. She was a former member of Sons of Italy and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Clarksburg. She is survived by a brother, Tony Loretta, of Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Laurie, of Clarksburg; a great-nephew, James Joseph Colanero, of Clarksburg; two great-nieces, Brooke and Hannah Cottrill; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Angelo (Betty) Loretta. Howard Earl Williams
Howard Earl Williams, 88, of Emory Street, Grafton, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born Oct. 4, 1911, in Taylor County, son of the late Grant and Elizabeth Poling Williams. He retired in 1970 after 20 years with B&O Railroad, and was self-employed as an electrician and plumber. He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Grafton Lodge 15 AF&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Copestone Chapter 12 Royal Arch Masons, Naomi Chapter 12 Order of Eastern Star, and the Local Investment Group. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and sang in the Gospel Crusaders Quartet for many years. Lisse Vingino Suarez, 91, of Route 3, Mannington, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born Oct. 10, 1908, in Naples, Italy, daughter of the late James and Mary Gemilli Vingino. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mannington, enjoyed working with flowers, and was a homemaker and mother. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Al (Delores) Gibson, of Terry, Miss.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Suarez, of Cortland, Ohio; a brother, Nick Vingino, of Mannington; two sisters, Libere Meter, of Warren, Ohio, and Thelma Haught, of Ashtabula, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Robert Russell Simpson, 26, of R.D. 1, Burton, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at home. He was born April 2, 1973, at Radcliff, Ky., son of George Simpson, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Terry Higginbotham Brummage, of R.D. 1, Spraggs, Pa. Rosemary Helms
Rosemary Helms, 75, of Newburg, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Newburg, daughter of the late Wallace B. and Madeline Burke Cockrell. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Preston County's Philemon Parish. She retired as a reading specialist with Preston County Board of Education, and volunteered in local schools. She was a member of the Retired School Employees Association; Newburg Town Council; Newburg Senior Citizens Group, where she was secretary; and the Board of Trustees for the Taylor and Preston Counties Health Association, which brought medical service into rural communities. She was active in political and commu nity project, most recently soliciting grants and funding for the procurement of a sewage system in her community. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Dr. Ronald G. and Sharon V. Helms, of Centerville, Ohio, and the Rev. Dr. Gary E. and Connie L. Helms, of Independence; a daughter and spouse, Debra M. and Roger Taylor, of Rowlesburg; a sister and spouse, Eileen and Milton Metheny, of Fairmont; four grandchildren and spouses, Scott M. George R. Boyles Jr., of Vincent, Ohio, died Sunday, May 3, 1999, in Beverly, Ohio. He is the son of George R. Boyles Sr., of Vincent, and the late Mary V. Snider Boyles. Maxine P. Wotring
Maxine P. Wotring, 84, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Morgantown and Canonsburg, Pa., died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at North Broward Medical Center, Pompano Beach. She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Hallie and Mollie Windel Phillips. She was Methodist, and attended Harner Chapel United Methodist Church when she was in Morgantown. She was principal at Evansdale Elementary School and taught at Suncrest Junior High before moving to Florida, where she taught at Pompano Beach Elementary. She retired in 1981 after 45 years of service. She graduated from Trinity High, in Washington, Pa., received a teaching degree from WVU and did graduate work there and at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of American Legion Post 142, Pompano Beach. She is survived by a brother, H. Ross Phillips Jr., of Naples, Fla., and a sister-in-law, Dorothy J. Phillips, of Connellsville, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude H. Wotring; a brother, Charles W. Phillips Sr.; and two sisters, Mary P. Wherry and Nina P. Brown. Carroll Hugh Curry, 76, of Peacock Lane, Fairmont, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, in Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Fairmont, son of the late Dorsey Benjamin and Nancy Smith Curry. He was a member of Central Christian Church, in Fairmont, where he was a former elder of the church and president of the Men's Fellowship Group. He served in the U.S. Army medical corps for three years during World War II. He was a member of AF&AM, Franklin Lodge 7. He retired in 1988 as director of Customer Services after 40 years with Monongahela Power Co. in Fairmont. He was a 50-year member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and a member of Power Pioneers, the retired persons of Monongahela Power Co., Fairmont Kiwanis Club, of which he was past president, Mountaineer Area Council Boy Scouts of America, where he served on the Executive Board and was past president, and the American Legion in Fairmont. He was a SCORE counselor, a 35-year scouting veteran and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award in scouting. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Opal Gates Curry; three sons and spouses, Dennis Curry, of Spencer, Joel and Shara Curry, of Warsaw, Ind., and Roger and Janet Curry, of Fairmont; a sister and spouse, Madalee and Clarence Wilson, of Fairmont; six grandchildren, Hillarey Carder, of Masontown, Ashley and Erin Curry, of Fairmont, Andrea Curry, of Red Bluff, Calif., Alicia Curry, of Indianapolis, and Timothy Curry, of Fairmont; two great-grandchildren, Macy Carder, of Masontown, and Kadin Joel Curry, of Red Bluff; and a niece, Nancy Morgan, of Fairmont. Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, from 7-9 p.m. Monday, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, until 11 a.m. service with the Rev. Jeff Gill officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Taylor County.
