Leroy Francis Saunders, 57, of Hagerstown, MD, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at his residence.
Born June 5, 1942 in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Ruby Irene Mose Saunders of Hagerstown and the late Charles Elmer Saunders.
He was a retired employee of the Washington Post Newspaper, Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the Church for the Hearing Impaired in Hedgesville, WV.
He was a life member of the Y.M.C.A., Deafnet Association, Winchester Deaf Association, Signlango Association and several other organizations for the hearing impaired.
Besides his mother he is survived by a son, J.R. Saunders of Martinsburg, WV; four sisters, Judith K. Turner, Mary O. Wade and Rebecca L. Grove all of Hagerstown and Connie A. Shaffer of Greencastle, PA; six brothers, Charles E. Saunders of Alexandria, VA, Robert L. Saunders of Marlowe, WV, James Saunders of Wesley Chapel, FL, John E. Saunders of Williamsport, MD, Dwight Ike Saunders of Hagerstown and Timothy David Saunders of Sharpsburg, MD.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, with Kaye Peacock officiating. Burial was in Manor Church Cemetery, Tilgmanton, MD.
Ray G. Mason

Ray Glenwood "Razor" Mason, 36, of Berkeley Springs, died on Sunday, April 23, 2000 at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born June 15, 1963 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of Glenwood Hamilton and Lelia Louise Miller Mason of Berkeley Springs.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He attended Berkeley Springs High School.
Most recently he worked in woodworking with Seely Pine Furniture in Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483 in Berkeley Springs.
He liked football, pitching horseshoes, fishing and auto racing.
In addition to his parents, surviving are one son, Jesse Ray Mason of Martinsburg; two sisters, Linda L. Snidemiller and Patsy J. Snow, both of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, David E. Miller of Lancaster, PA and Randy L. Mason of Cross Junction, VA; two step-daughters, LaRanda Cross and LaShelle Cross both of Georgia; two step-sons, Richard W. Sauer and Ryan K. Greene, both of Berkeley Springs; his fiancee, Wendy D. Sauer of Berkeley Springs; three nephews; six nieces; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 26 at Oakland Methodist Church with Pastor Lynnie Ambrose officiating. There will be one hour viewing at the church before the service. Interment will be in Oakland Church Cemetery.

Jessie M. Ruppenthal

Jessie May Ruppenthal, 85, of Lebanon, PA, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Myerstown, PA.
Born in Sleepy Creek, Morgan County, on July 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Ray (Bill) and Lutie Margarite Laign Fox.
She was raised in the Pleasant Hill area.
She was a member of the Grace United Brethren Church (now United Methodist) in her youth.
She was a homemaker.
She graduated from the Red Hill School in Sleepy Creek.
She is survived by her husband, Fred P. Ruppenthal of Lebanon, whom she married July 3, 1933; three daughters, Ernestine Nelson of Cleona, PA, and Patricia Meyer and Jane Scine, both of Myerstown; four sons, Fred E. Ruppenthal and Arthur L. Ruppenthal, both of Myerstown, Robert W. Ruppenthal of Cleona and Jeffrey P. Ruppenthal of Annville, PA; two sisters, Hazel Dunham of Hagerstown, MD and Ester Lee Witham of Seabrook, NH; one brother, Roger E. Fox of Berkeley Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd T. Fox and Arthur L. Fox.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 24 at the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland Street, Lebanon, PA with her cousin, the Rev. Gary Kerns officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.

Ellsworth L. Spring

Ellsworth Lee Spring, 73, of Great Cacapon, died Monday, April 24, 2000 at his home.
Born September 15, 1926, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Lee Hamil Spring and Mildred Munson Spring.
He retired in 1986 from International Operating Engineers Union in Baltimore, MD as a crane operator.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Great Cacapon.
He was a member of American Legion Post #60.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Louise Spriggs Spring; four daughters, Susan D. Hardesty of Baltimore, Dawn Marie Kyne of Berkeley Springs, Roxanne L. Spring of Martinsburg and Debbie A. Weaver of Great Cacapon; eight grandchildren, Erin Hardesty, Chasity Albanese, Brandy Kyne, Brigitte Kyne, Joshua Fowler, Mathew Weaver, Brandon Hardesty and Elizabeth Weaver.
Services will be held Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon, with Steve Dawson officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Full military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 60 at the cemetery.

Loyce E. Blankinship

Loyce E. "L.E." Blankinship, 81, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, April 30, 2000 in the Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born July 26, 1918 in Appleton, AR, he was the son of the late Cloyd Blankinship and Eva Smith Blankinship.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy from May 12, 1944 and was honorably discharged on January 17, 1946.
He retired from General Motors after 26 years of employment.
He was an honorary member of the Tomahawk Ruritan Club and a member of the Tomahawk Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Rheba Shoptaw Blankinship, at home; one daughter, Carolyn J. Marion of Tomahawk; four grandchildren, Jennifer A. Adams, Gail L. Rockwell, Julie K. Franz and Melinda Lee Adams; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 3, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Lee Ashley officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Harry "Ike" Barnhart, Jr., 79, of Hancock, MD, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home.
Born August 16, 1920 in Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Harry Barnhart, Sr. and Bessie Seal Barnhart.
He was retired from Fairchild in Hagerstown, MD.
He was a member of the AARP and a member of the Johns Hopkins Research Cardiovascular Health Study.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Younker Barnhart of Hancock, whom he married in 1942 in Hagerstown; one daughter, Janice A. Fink of Hancock; two sons, Leroy I. Barnhart and Edward E. Barnhart of Hancock; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Otto Philip Barnhart and Bernard M. Barnhart; six sisters, Lilly Eddy, Edith Ray, Mary Brown, Elizabeth Diehl, Kathryn Gordon and Susie MacCumbee; three brothers, Webster Barnhart, Russell Barnhart and Charles Barnhart.
Services were held on Thursday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, with the Rev. William Swope officiated. Burial was in the Orchard Ridge First Church of God Cemetery, Orchard Ridge Road. Hancock.

Kyle Matthew Yost, infant son of Amanda S. Flowers and Matthew L. Yost of Hedgesville, WV, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.
He was born April 28, 2000, in Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Lili Jasmine-McKenna Flowers, at home; paternal grandparents, Roger and Carol Yost of Berkeley Springs, WV; maternal grandmother, Martha Marie Yost of Hedgesville; maternal grandfather, Randy Carl Flowers of Hancock, MD; three aunts and one uncle.
Services were held at the convenience of the family.

Edna C. Fahrney, 81, of Five Forks, PA died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born May 21, 1918 in Frostburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hazel Lancaster Bittner.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, E. Woodrow Crow in 1971; and by her second husband, Chester E. Fahrney in 1973.
She worked at Hess Orchards. She retired from Stanley Co. in 1987.
She was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church and the Sewing Circle.
She was a member of AARP and Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union.
She volunteered at Camp Joel.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn E. Thomas of Blue Ridge Summit, PA; four sons, Dilbert L. Crow of Five Forks, Bobby E. Crow of South Mountain, PA, Jacky D. Crow of Quincy, PA and Mark L. Crow of Frederick, MD; three sisters, Boots Cross of Cumberland, MD Annabelle Nazelrod and Lois Stride both of LaVale, MD; two brothers, Dilbert Bittner of Berkeley Springs and Rust Bittner of LaVale; 10 grandchildren; two step grandsons; 10 great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and three brothers.
Services were held Monday, May 1 at Five Forks Brethren Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Five Forks. Pastors Wilbur F. Besecker, H. Ray Kipe and William Shank officiated. Burial was in Antrim Mennonite Church Cemetery in Greencastle, PA.

Earl T. "Mountain Man" Moore, 70, of Hedgesville, died Monday, May 1, 2000 at the VA Medical Center.
Born September 11, 1929 in Big Pool, MD, he was the son of the late George A. Moore and Carrie Hart Moore.
He was retired from Corning.
He was a member of the Allensville Church of the Brethren.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW, the NRA and the West Virginia Wildlife Federation.
Surviving are three daughters, Vickie Buckovics of Florida, Roxanna Moore and Roseanna Murphy both of Hedgesville; close and dear friend Darlene Mechem of Great Cacapon; five grandchildren, Clarence Naugle, Melinda Murphy, Marlaina Murphy, April Palmer and Mikayla Mordesovitch; two great grandchildren; and one sister, Kay Shipper of Martinsburg.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Charles W. Green officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery with military graveside services by the Veterans Combined Honor Guard of Martinsburg.

Born in Morgan County June 13, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Tolbert Jerome Michael and Anna M. Keyes Michael.
She was a homemaker.
She was formerly a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Mathias of Glen Allen, VA; one stepdaughter, Dianne Collins of Ruther Glen, VA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Shives in 1982; one son, Donald S. Shives; three sisters, Mildred Little, Marie Mechem and Josie Kidwell; eight brothers, Guy, Charles, Lawrence, Emmitt, Michael, Sr., George, Melvin and Elmer Michael.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Michael Cemetery, with John Barker officiating. Interment will be in Michael Cemetery.

Herbert R. Johnston, 81, of Hancock, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, WV.
Born November 6, 1918 in Hancock, he was the son of the late William Bradley and Bertha Pearl Culp Johnston.
His first wife, Audrey Layton Johnston, died in 1975.
He was a graduate of Hancock High School.
He retired from Londontown Corp. in Hancock in 1988, and had been employed by R.S. Dillon Orchards in Hancock.
He was coach and manager of the London Fog softball team.
Surviving are his wife, Goldie M. Younker Johnston of Hancock; one stepdaughter, Betty L. Henson of Hancock; two sisters, Ruth Mackereth of Baltimore and Virginia Simmons of Martinsburg, WV; one step granddaughter; one step great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Johnston and Marvin Johnston.
Services were held Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert D. Smith, Sr. officiated. Burial was in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery in Little Orleans, MD.

Lillian Odelta Wilson, 75, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home.
Born October 26, 1924 in Hampshire County she was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Minnie Bell Moreland McCauley.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, where she was active with the United Methodist Woman.
She attended public schools in Hampshire County, WV.
Prior to her marriage on July 12, 1946, she had worked at the Interwoven Hosiery Mill in Berkeley Springs. She had been a homemaker in recent years.
She was an honorary member of South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Morgan County Rescue Service Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active community volunteer at both Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department. She also worked at the Thrift Shop of Morgan County Rescue Service for many years.
Surviving are six nieces; seven nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. "Jack" Wilson on March 4, 1984; four sisters, Kathryn Amick, Izonia May Spurling, Emily Griffith and Della Fishel; and two brothers, Wesley "Bud" McCauley and George McCauley.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr. officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Marvin L. Fox

Marvin Leroy "Bud" Fox, 67, of Berkeley Springs died on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
Born March 15, 1933 in Warfordsburg, PA, he was the son of Teressa Hendershot Fox of Berkeley Springs and the late Sanford E. Fox.
He attended the Alpine School and Berkeley Springs High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483 and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council #117, all in Berkeley Springs.
He worked as an engine tester with Mack Truck in Hagers-town, MD and retired in 1991.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 47 years, Iris Jane King Fox, at home; two daughters, Melissa J. Mundey and Marcia J. Coffman, both of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Daniel M. Fox of Berkeley Springs and David K. Fox of Kingwood, TX; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy S. Fox, Dana M. Fox, Christopher D. Fox, Daniel M. Fox, Jr., David E. Mundey, III, Heather E. Willey, Kari M. Mundey, John A. Mundey, Kayla L. Mundey, James Lee Coffman, III and Megan B. Coffman, all of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Lorraine L. Henderson, Cheryl Ann Price and Mary Ann McCarty, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Donald E. Fox of Berkeley Springs; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Homer G. Fox and one granddaughter, Melissa Jewel Mundey.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with Presiding Elder Mark L. Faith officiating. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Alpine Church Cemetery, Pious Ridge, Morgan County.
A Junior Order Lodge memorial service was held at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 19 at the funeral home.
George W. Glick
1927-2000
The Reverend George William Glick, 72, of Hancock died Monday, May 15, 2000 at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.
Born June 3, 1927 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Helen R. Wieseckel Glick.
He attended high school at St. Mary's parish in Hagerstown. He entered St. Charles College Seminary in Catonsville, MD in 1946, but left to enter the U.S. Army. He attended Hagerstown Junior College for two years. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD in 1951 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
He worked as an accountant for Fairchild Aircraft Co. in Hagerstown.
He then entered Mount St. Mary's Seminary and after five years of study was ordained a priest on May 25, 1963 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore.
His assignments included St. Thomas More Parish in Baltimore, and at St. John the Evangelist parish in Severna Park, MD, where he remained for 10 years. On July 14, 1980, he took up his first pastorate at St. Peter parish in Hancock and St. Patrick in Little Orleans, MD, where he served for about 20 years.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Jane Wobbeking of Baltimore and Sister Margaret Mary Glick of Hagerstown; a brother, Francis J. Glick of Lancaster, PA; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, May 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. Archbishop William D. Borders was celebrant. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Howard Randolph "Trix" Trittipoe, Jr., 72, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Thursday, May 18, 2000 at his home in Thunderbird Hills.
Born August 4, 1927 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Howard Randolph and Vyolett Jewell Trittipoe.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School, Washington, and in 1956, earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education, recreation and health, from the University of Maryland at College Park, MD.
He served with the 11th Airborne, U.S. Army, from October 6, 1946 until his honorable discharge as Corporal on September 15, 1949.
He was a fireman with the District of Columbia Fire Department from April, 1958 until his retirement in March, 1975.
He was a member of the University of Maryland "M" Club and the Terrapin Club. He was a member of the 11th Airborne Division Association, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter 11th Airborne Association and a life member of the 187th Airborne R.C.T. Association. He was Past Commander and a life member of both Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019, Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483, a retired member of the Morgan County Fire Board and a member of the Martinsburg Elks Club. He was a member of the Yamoto Cadre Training Center, the National Rifle Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lee Yost Cohill Trittipoe at home, who he married June 26, 1973; two step-children, Felicia C. Hovermale and Felippe B. Cohill, Jr., both of Berkeley Springs; three cousins; three step-grandchildren, Gale E. Hovermale, Chester F. Hovermale and Jay McCarty, all of Berkeley Springs; and four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Trittipoe Johnson.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. John S. Ledford officiating. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Eldora M. Trail
1931-2000
Eldora Martha Trail, 69, of Morgantown, WV, and formerly of Hancock, MD, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgan-town.
Born February 2, 1931, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Campbell and Martha Denken-berger Campbell Snyder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Junior Trail, in 1994.
She was a homemaker.
She was a Protestant.
She was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Hancock; and had been active with the Girl Scouts and Brownies of Hancock.
She is survived by one daughter, Tracey Trail-Mahan of Soquel, CA; two brothers, David Campbell of Morgantown and Billy Dean of Kingwood, WV; and four granddaughters.
Services were held Friday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock. Evangelist Timothy Swindell Sr. officiated. Burial was in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery in Little Orleans, MD.

J. Harold DeVore

J. Harold DeVore, 85, of Cumberland, MD, died Thursday, May 25, 2000 at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born on May 3, 1915 in Newburg, he was the son of the late J. Earl DeVore and Sarah R. (Barnhart) DeVore.
He was employed as a carman for the Bolt & Forge Shops of the B&O Chessie System where he retired in 1976 with 40 years of service.
He was a 50 year member of Kingsley United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.
He was a 50 year member of East Gate Lodge #216 A.F.&A.M. and a 50 year member of The Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Algonquin Forest #140.
He attended Berkeley Springs High School.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor E. (Smyth) DeVore; two sons, Dennis Allen DeVore of Cumberland and Douglas Harold DeVore of Bedford, PA; five grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte M. McGaha of Cumberland and Margurite V. DeVore, Allegany County Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Saturday, May 27, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
East Gate Lodge #216 A.F.&A.M. held memorial services at the funeral home on Friday, May 26, 7:30 p.m.

Howard J. Snow Jr.
1935-2000
Howard James "Bubby" Snow Jr., 65, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born May 21, 1935, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Howard James Snow and Pauline Leonard Snow.
He was employed as an upholsterer for several years by Berkeley Upholstery. He is best known for his work in the White House for John and Teddy Kennedy.
Survivors include his former wife, Josephine O'Leary McBride of Martinsburg; three sons, Jerome "Jerry" Snow, Dennis P. Snow and James H. "Jimmy" Snow, all of Martinsburg; two daughters, Lisa Jo Snow of Martinsburg and Tracey L. Salinas of Hedgesville; five grandsons, Thomas Snow, Brian Snow, James Snow, Zackary Snow and Brandon Snow; one granddaughter, Tiffany L. Salinas of Hedgesville; two sisters, Arlene Tabler of Pikeside and Eunice Homer of Hedgesville; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Delores Kilmer of Harpers Ferry.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery.
William J. Rawding Jr.
1936-2000
William J. Rawding Jr., 63, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, June 2, 2000 at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born June 24, 1936, in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late William J. Rawding Sr. and Evelyn Keveling Rawding.
He was employed by NJ Bell Telephone Co.; and Valley View Nursing Home as a dietary aide.
He was also a volunteer at the nursing home.
He was a member of the Berkeley Springs Moose Lodge #1483.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dobak Rawding; two sons, Nelson Padinha of Berkeley Springs and Anthony Padinha of Athens; and three grandchildren, Anthony, Marisa and Tiffani Padinha.
Viewing was held Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6, at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs.
Lloyd P. Hardy
1912-2000
Lloyd P. Hardy, 87, of Paw Paw, WV, died Friday, June 2, 2000 at Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby.
Born November 9, 1912, in Paw Paw, he was the son of the late Arthur Clarence "Dick" and Georgia Ann (Price) Hardy.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Odessa Santymire Hardy in July 1985; and three sisters, Mildred Major, Julia Parrell and Irma Reynolds.
He formerly operated an independent trucking business and was employed at the tannery at Paw Paw. He retired from the Chessie System Railroad as an engineer of 1977 with 26 years of service.
He was an active member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Paw Paw.
He served on the Paw Paw Council from 1947 to 1973 and then served one term as Mayor of the Town of Paw Paw. He was a charter member of the Paw Paw Lions Club and was recently presented with the Leonard Jarrett award for his outstanding service to his community. He was a life member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, Tonoloway Council #102. He was also past member of the Morgan County Planning Commission, Region 9 Planning and Development Council, and the Morgan County Historical Society. He served on the Boards of Directors of InterCounty Health, Morgan County Economic Development Corporation, and Morgan County Commission on Aging.
He was a history and railroad buff.
Surviving are his wife, Nedra Santymire Hardy, whom he married in 1989; three daughters, Mary Lou Hook of Leesburg, VA, Ruby Ann Mehrmann of Berkeley Springs, WV and Freda Kay Miller of Paw Paw; four stepdaughters, Kay Kerns of Hagerstown, MD, Belinda Joyner of Oldtown, MD, Tammy Keel of Short Gap, WV and Denise Snyder of Cumberland, MD; one stepson, Ronald DeVore of Fayettesville, PA; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; two sisters, Brent McKee of Paw Paw and Helen Oliver of Carlsbad, NM; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Paw Paw, on Monday, June 5 at 1 p.m. with Brother Landis and Pastor Earl Travis officiating. Interment was in Camp Hill Cemetery.

Freda E. Moore
1900-2000
Freda Ellen Moore, 100, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born in Morgan County on March 11, 1900, she was the daughter of the late George Elmer and Martha Ann Michael Eckerd.
She attended the Spohrs Crossroads School in Morgan County.
She was a member of the Berkeley Springs Church of Christ.
She retired in 1962 as a cook from the Berkeley Springs Grade School.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Ann Michael of Berkeley Springs; one son, Harold W. Moore of Grand Prairie, TX; one brother, Ralph Eckerd of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a number of great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Jack" Moore in 1968; two sons, Leroy Moore and Willard S. Moore; one daughter, Wilma Jean Morgret; two sisters, Janetta Silvers and Barbara Peer; three brothers, George F. Eckerd, Charles Eckerd and Jamsey Eckerd.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Pastor Edwin Floyd officiating. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Beulah F. Cazer
1911-2000
Beulah F. Cazer, 89, of Boonsboro, MD, formerly of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.
Born March 16, 1911, in Berkeley County, she was the daughter of the late James D. Kitchen and Sylvia Everhart Kitchen.
She attended the House of the Lord.
Surviving are two brothers, Edgar Kitchen of Martinsburg and Roy Kitchen of Berkeley Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Cazer; one son, Kenneth V. Cazer; two brothers, Noble and Neal Kitchen; and two sisters, Floye Kitchen and Lillie Gross.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Austin J. Caplinger officiating. Interment was at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Lester C. "Dick" Unger, 76, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born December 30, 1923, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Hillary Unger and the late Carrie L. Michael Unger.
He was a former employee of Interwoven Mills and foreman at Vanguard Products. He was also a farmer.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Fearnow Unger; three sons, Danny Unger, Bobby Unger and Randy Unger, all of Berkeley Springs; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Barney and one brother, Raymond Unger.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Unger officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery. Graveside military services were conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

Etholene Belle Kimes, 83, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born August 10, 1916, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of the late David N. Penwell and Maggie Elizabeth (Oden) Penwell.
She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town.
She was employed for 20 years as a nurse at the former Charles Town General Hospital, Charles Town. Prior to that, she was at Loudoun Memorial Hospital, Leesburg, and the former Knott Nursing Home, Charles Town.
She was a member of the Betsy Ross Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Eastern Panhandle Nurses Association.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine V. "Kathy" Fridley of Charles Town; three grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Spencer, Angela Sue Johnson and Spencer Paul Cavalier; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Hallie Friend of Rockville, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin N. Kimes; one son, Paul N. Kimes; an infant daughter, Phoebe Ann Kimes; one sister, Arietta Painter; and three brothers, David Penwell, Theodore Penwell and Howard Penwell.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town, with the Rev. Jack Weise officiating. Interment was in the Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Bethany Jackson
Bethany Jackson, infant daughter of Eric Wayne and Tammy Dee Erb Jackson of Winchester, VA, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Cara Jackson at home; two brothers, Reuben Jackson and Joseph Jackson, both at home; maternal grandparents, Wayne I. and Deborah A. Erb, Sr. of Spring Grove, PA; maternal great grandparents, George and Alice Mae Erb of Hanover, PA and Kenneth R. Sr. and Ruby E. Stevens of Berkeley Springs; paternal grandparents, Joe and Barbara Jackson of Sutton; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Aaron Paul Jackson in 1995.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at the Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, Tabor Road, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John W. Stevens will officiate with burial in the Bethel Cemetery, 522 South of Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church on Saturday.

Turner E. Luttrell

Turner E. Luttrell, 86, of Stephens City, VA, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his home.
Born June 14, 1913 in Frederick County, VA, he was the son of Eppa Lee and Laura Omps Luttrell.
He was employed as a construction worker for R.G. Buckley Construction in White Post, VA. He was also a farmer.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church at Reynolds Store, VA.
He is survived by one son, Gary Turner Luttrell of Stephens City; one daughter, Darlene Kay Shull of Stephens City; two granddaughters; one great grandson; and two great great granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, 5484 Mulberry Street, Stephens City, with Pastor Jackie Battle officiating. Interment was in Greenhill Cemetery in Stephens City.
