Kathleen M. Shriver

Kathleen Marie Shriver, 81, of Berkeley Springs, died on Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.
Born April 19, 1919 at Stotlers Crossroads, she was the daughter of the late Ward and Eva Blanche Dawson Hovermale.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and was active with the United Methodist Women.
She attended Pleasant Dale School in Posey Hollow and was a 1938 graduate of Bath District High School in Berkeley Springs.
She liked flowers and was an avid gardener. She also did ceramics.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Hammond Brenton Shriver, at home; one daughter, Rev. Kialeen S. Potterton of Winchester, VA; one son, Roger Sterling Shriver of Gaithersburg, MD; two grandchildren, Denny J. Basham of Arlington, VA and Donna Shriver of Gaithersburg; and one aunt.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr. officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery.
Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, was in charge of the arrangements.

Wade L. Kerns
1949-2000
Wade Leland Kerns, 51, of Paw Paw, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the home of his parents.
Born April 4, 1949 in Morgan County, he was the son of Roland Baker Kerns and Inez Betson Kerns of Paw Paw.
He was employed by Kraft General Foods of Winchester.
He was the former chief of the Paw Paw Fire Company and served on the Paw Paw Town Council from 1973-1977.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Michael "Scott" Kerns of Paw Paw; one daughter, Melissa Villafuerte of Arcadia, FL; one step-daughter, Erin Belford of Oldtown, MD; one sister, Wilma Kerns Parrill of Cumberland, MD; two brothers, Roland Baker "Butch" Kerns and Jeffrey Scott Kerns, both of Paw Paw; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. in the McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta. Interment was in Woodrow Cemetery, Paw Paw.
Elsie M. Phillips
1909-2000
Elsie M. Phillips, 90, of Catonsville, MD, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at St. Agnes Hospital.
Born in Maryland, October 8, 1909, she was the daughter of the late James Constantine and Bertha Constantine.
She was owner of the Phillips Roofing Company.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Fisher of Maryland and Dorothy Melchor; one sister, Dorothy Marie Martin of Pikesville, MD; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore J. Phillips; and two sons, Robert H. Phillips and Theodore J. Phillips, Jr.
Services were held at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD on Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Dunlop and Pastor Brewer officiating. Interment was in Druid Ridge Cemetery in Pikesville.
John P. Philbin
John Patrick Philbin, 81, of Roland Park, Baltimore, MD died on May 4, 2000 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was a former longtime resident of Berkeley Springs.
Born in Clinton, MA he earned his bachelor's degree from the College of Holy Cross in Worchester, MA. He obtained his law degree from Boston College School of Law and was admitted to the practice of law in 1952.
He had been head of government relations for Mobil Oil Corporation, Washington, D.C. for 25 years until his retirement in 1983.
He had been a communicant of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church where he taught C.C.D. and had been the finance advisor for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Elizabeth Cronin; two daughters, Elizabeth P. Wallace of Pittsburgh and Susan P. Sommers of Lutherville, MD; one brother and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the internment was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Frederick, MD on May 8.
Jeneva R. Heldreth
1926-2000
Jeneva "Ruth" Rogers Heldreth, 73, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the Martinsburg City Hospital.
She was born July 1, 1926, in Dola, a daughter of the late Curtis Roy and Thelma Robinson Rogers.
She was a member of Clarksburg Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Clarksburg Aerie 2325 Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She was employed for six years at the Sheraton Restaurant and 13 years at Rite-Aid.
She is survived by one son, Curtis Heldreth, of Berkeley Springs; three daughters, Betty Jurick of Morgantown, and Carol Harold and Mary Frazee, both of Martinsburg; six grandchildren, Britney King, Malissa Heldreth, Michele Jurick, Lt. Michael Jurick Jr., Christopher McCartney and Cody McCartney; one brother, Wilbert "Bud" Rogers, of Clarksburg; and one sister, Esta Mae Hiltbrand of Florida.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Heldreth; one daughter, Constance Sue Heldreth McCartney; and one sister, Ann Davis.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Hulme of the Clarksburg Baptist Church officiating. Burial was at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
Gary R. Waugh

Gary R. Waugh, 53, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at his home.
Born October 4, 1946, in Brosious, WV, he was the son of the late John R. and Orpha V. Plotner Waugh.
He was a 1968 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He had been employed as a welder with JLG Industries in McConnellsburg, PA.
He was a member of Alpine United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three sons, Dwayne R. Waugh of Maugansville, MD, Dion V. Waugh of Williamsport, MD and Coby Waugh of Hancock, MD; one sister, Portia Truax of Chambersburg, PA; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Graveside services were held Thursday, June 8 at 2 p.m. at Alpine United Methodist Cemetery in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Steve Dawson officiated.

Robert L. Hovermale, 68, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born August 25, 1931, in Hancock, WV, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Mae Stoner Hovermale.
He was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
His former wife, Helen G. Leader Bivens Hovermale, died October 10, 1997.
He retired in 1996 from JLG in McConnellsburg, PA, where he worked as a maintenance electrician.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, serving during the Korean War.
He was a former Session member of Hancock Presbyterian Church in Hancock, MD.
He was a member of the Morgan County Saddle Club in Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Sara E. "Betty" Ruppenthal Hiles Hovermale, whom he married August 28, 1999; four stepdaughters, Pauline Keefer and Vickie Miller, both of Berkeley Springs, Marjorie Roman and Glenda True, both of Hancock; three stepsons, Edward Bivens of Hancock, Rodney Bivens and Ted Bivens, both of Berkeley Springs; six sisters, Evangelene LaFollette, Ora Mae Thompson and Opal McCusker, all of Hancock, Carol Keefer of Needmore, PA, Emma Dorsey and Glenda Yant, both of Baltimore, MD; one brother, James R. Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; 12 stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Helen Diehl Landers, Freda Cain, Wilma Jean Dorrier, Hilda Constantina and Nancy Lou Hovermale; and two brothers, Lloyd Hovermale and Stanton Hovermale.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. in Alpine United Methodist Cemetery, Pious Ridge in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Margee Iddings officiated.

Estella Lea Belford, 88, of Paw Paw, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland, MD.
Born November 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Edward Shoemaker and Ivy Pearl Shrout Shoemaker.
She was a member of the Paw Paw Church of Christ.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy McCusker of Hanover, PA; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hillard Belford.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Kimble Funeral Home, Paw Paw, with Eldridge Kerns officiating. Interment was in the Woodrow Cemetery, Paw Paw.
Lynwood P. Graham
1926-2000
Lynwood P. "Buddy" Graham, 73, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born September 8, 1926, in Morgan County, WV, he was the son of the late Barthol L. and Goldie McCoy Graham.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs. He also attended the First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.
He retired after 39 years of service as a rural carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1944 to June 1946, during World War II. He served on the USS Kadashan Bay CVE 76 and received the American Theater Award and the Asiatic Pacific Award.
He was a retired member of the Morris Young Men's Chorus, the American Legion Post 60 and the Rural Carriers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Adeline (Yeakle) Graham; one son, Kevin L. Graham of Hagerstown, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernadine Cate; and three brothers, Clifford A. Graham, Clyde M. Graham and Virgil E. Graham.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Owen Womack officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Little Cove, PA.

Frances I. Hill, 86, of the Fulton County Medical Center Care Facility, McConnellsburg, PA and formerly of Warfordsburg, PA, died Monday, June 12, 2000 at the medical center.
Born March 14, 1914, in Warfordsburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter Rush and Anna Ruth Wertz Ritz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Booth Hill, in 1964.
She worked for Buck Valley Canning Factory in Buck Valley, PA.
She was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Warfordsburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Andrews of Hagerstown, MD and Grace Barker of Berkeley Springs, WV; one son, Nathan Hill of Chambersburg, PA; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Ritz; and one sister, Gladys Ritz Davis.
Services were held Thursday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street in Hancock. The Rev. Delmas Bard officiated. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Buck Valley Road in Warfordsburg.

Chester Loman Ray, 81, of Hancock, MD, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at his home.
Born December 19, 1918 in Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late William Frederick and Annie Mann Ray.
His wife Edith M. Barnhart Ray died December 21, 1997.
He was a retired drill operator for C. William Hetzer, Inc., Hagerstown, MD.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion and the VFW Post 10502, Hancock.
He is survived by three sisters, Mae Hull and Goldie Barnhart, both of Hancock and Orintha Mills of Berkeley Springs, WV; one brother, Ernest Ray of Hancock; and a number of nieces and nephews.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Guy R. Avey Jr.
1920-2000
Guy R. Avey Jr., 80, of Martinsburg, died Friday, June 16, 2000 at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.
Born January 11, 1920 in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Guy R. Avey and Ethel Sanbower Avey.
He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1936, from West Virginia University in Civil Engineering in 1941, and from West Virginia College of Law in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years of service during the Korean conflict.
He began a practice of law with Ernest Luttrell in 1948 and formed a law partnership with Robert M. Steptoe in 1952. He was past president of the Berkeley County Bar Association and a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association. He retired from the practice of law in 1984.
He was president and chairman of the Board of Citizens National Bank from 1959 until 1976. He remained as board chairman until December, 1985. In January of 1984, he became a member of the Board of One Valley Bancorp of West Virginia and served until December, 1985. He was a past president of Group 7 of the West Virginia Bankers Association.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean Brand Avey; seven daughters, Katherine Avey Markoulis of Tucson, AZ, Barbara Avey Beckwith, Sandra Brand Wachtel and Barbara Brand Duke, all of Martinsburg, Jane Brand Puckett of Collierville,TN, Marcia Brand of Shepherdstown and Mary Lee Avey Manor of Charleston; one son, Guy Avey III of Clinton, NC; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Pell Avey; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 19 at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. G. Edward Grove officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery.

Born July 20, 1945 in Kalamazoo, MI she was the daughter of the late Joseph Sebring and Nora Allene Lane Westnedge.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a 1963 graduate of Marquette High School, Marquette, MI.
She worked as a lab technician with Sun Chemical in Williamsport, MD. She was a homemaker and an avid cross stitcher.
Surviving are two sons, Michael James Grawn of Rochester, NY and Steven Joseph Grawn of Detroit, MI; one daughter, Valerie Christine Olmo of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren, Jared Grawn and Rachel Grawn both of Rochester, NY and Sean Olmo of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Patricia Mann of Hancock, MD; two brothers, Joseph Westnedge of High Ridge, MO and Richard Westnedge of Grand Junction, CO and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Marie Lutman, 82, of Charles Town, died Monday, June 26, 2000 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Born July 1, 1917 in Morgan County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie O. Stotler and Iva P. Alabaugh Stotler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond B. Lutman, Jr.
She was a former employee of Bath Candy Company, Berkeley Springs.
She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas B. Lutman and Charles E. Lutman, both of Charles Town; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Hilda S. Giovanini and one brother, Paul W. Stotler.
Services will be held Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 South Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Visitation will be today, Wednesday, June 28, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

James R. Morrison

James Reed Morrison, 69, of Hilton Head Island, SC died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at his residence.
Born September 11, 1930 in Morgan County, he was the son of Margaret Ann Swaim Morrison of Berkeley Springs and the late James E. Morrison.
He was a member of the Hilton Head Island Church of Christ and was a retired sales representative of The Adventure Inn on Hilton Head Island.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Holly Lewis Morrison; one son, Wesley Morrison of Florida; three sisters, Betty Ann Howard of Nashville, TN, Mary Ruth Dubard and Nancy Elizabeth Morrison, both of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Lewis Paul Morrison, David Wayne Morrison and Andrew Carroll Morrison all of Berkeley Springs, and Matthew Clifton Morrison of Nashville, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Earl Morrison.
Services will be held Friday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at the Duckwall Church of Christ. Rev. Matthew Clifton Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining Duckwall Cemetery.

Robert E. Salmon

Robert E. Salmon, 64, of Dickerson, MD, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at his son's home in Berkeley Springs.
Born November 9, 1935, in Washington, DC, he was a son of the late Raymond Salmon and Helen Smith Salmon.
He was employed as an addiction services coordinator for Montgomery County, MD, working 20 years helping recovering addicts.
He was survived by one son, Tony Salmon of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Helen Cramer of Staunton, VA; one brother, Richard Salmon of Missouri; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Salmon, in 1970; and one brother, Greg Salmon.
Services were held Tuesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 South Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs.

Ruth Elizabeth Sagle, 87, a resident of Morgan County War Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility, Berkeley Springs, WV and formerly of Hancock, MD, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at the hospital.
Born August 10, 1912, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Richard S. and Martha Jane Divel Sagle.
She owned and operated Sagle's Restaurant in Hancock for many years.
She was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Hancock.
She is survived by one sister, Mary R. Ford of Berkeley Springs; two nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Lucy J. Sagle, Beulah Peterson and two infant sisters; and one brother, Chester Sagle.
Services were held Saturday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street in Hancock. The Rev. Jeff Hawbaker officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Hancock.

Fred D. Zettle, 92, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Pleasant Gap, PA, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Born March 13, 1908 in Pleasant Gap, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel Wesley Warren and Lolita Evey Zettle.
He was a graduate of the Bellefonte Academy and the Scranton Lackawanna Business College in Scranton, PA. He had been a clerk for O.W. Houts & Son. He had been previously employed at a post office in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the Pleasant Gap Methodist Church, AARP in Lakeland, FL and a founding member of the Moose Lodge in Berkeley Springs, WV. He ran Zettle's hot dog stand at the Grange Fair.
He is survived by his wife Virginia G. Miller whom he married on October 2, 1943 in Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Lorna Bass of Vienna, VA, Lynda Osborn of Henderson, KY and Colleen Williamson of Rufkin, FL; two sons, W. Edward Zettle of Zion, PA and Fred Zettle, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; one brother, Budd Zettle of North Myrtle Beach, NC; 12 grandchildren and one great grandson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services were held on Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at Koch Funeral Home, State College, PA. Burial was in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, PA.
Mary L. Aduddell

Mary Lou Aduddell, 76, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born August 20, 1923 in Whitehaven, TN, she was the daughter of the late Hugo H. and Eva Johnson Ingram.
She was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Unger, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.
She was a 1941 graduate of Whitehaven High School, Whitehaven, TN. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in mathematics and Latin from Memphis State University in 1945.
She was a teacher in the Tennessee public school system following graduation from Memphis State. She was an avid reader and had been a homemaker in recent years.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, John Emmett Aduddell, at home; one son, John E. Aduddell, Jr. of Wayne, PA; three daughters, Carolyn Sue Roser of Culpepper, VA, Dorothy Jane Daughtry of Annandale, VA and Sandra Ann Pope of Warrenton, VA; seven grandchildren, Jamie Aduddell of Medford, OK, Joshua Aduddell, Joey Aduddell and Jason Aduddell all of Wayne, PA, Alexander Pope, Kelsey Pope and Shelby Pope all of Warrenton, VA; one great grandson; one sister, Jane Waters of Memphis, TN and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Ingram.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, at Greenwood United Methodist Church, Unger, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr. officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Grove Cemetery.

Born January 16, 1930 in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Edward Steiner and Della (Biser) Steiner.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one son, Mark E. Nies of LaVale, MD; one daughter, Sharon Nies of Alachua, FL; one sister, Ruth Deneen of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Roy Steiner of Coco Beach, FL; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Nies, Jr.
Services were conducted at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland today, Wednesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. with the Monseignor Thomas Bevan officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Helen Knauff

Helen H. Wetter Knauff, 96, of Copeland Oaks, OH, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at the Crandall Medical Center.
She was born in January, 1904 in North Lima, OH, the daughter of James Hahn and Anna Hick Hahn.
She was a former Grove Heights resident in Berkeley Springs.
She was a retired elementary school teacher.
She was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Canfield.
Her first husband, Edward J. Welter died January 31, 1975.
Her second husband, Paul Knauff, died April 18, 1985.
She is survived by one son, James Wetter of North Lima; one stepdaughter, Carol Doty of Florence, S.C.; one stepson, Dr. Ronald Knauff of Saugatuck, MI; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one stepson in 1976 and one stepdaughter in 1977.
Services were held at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Dr. George Lee officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Esther V. McBee, 93, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died June 27, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born September 20, 1906, in Great Cacapon, WV, she was a daughter of the late Clinton G. Mechem and Gladys M. (Allemong) Mechem.
She had a bachelor's degree and was an elementary school teacher.
She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Chapter 77 Order of Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two sons, C. Dwan McBee of Berkeley Springs and L. Kent McBee of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gladstone Mechem, Glenn Mechem and Dwight Mechem.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 South Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs, with Rev. Kelly Scott officiating. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday, June 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Order of Eastern Star will hold a service Thursday, June 29, 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marcille Frances Davidson, 90, of Berkeley Springs, WV, formerly of Tucson, AZ and Woodland Hills, CA, died on Friday, June 23, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs.
Born July 8, 1909, in Spencerville, OH, she was the daughter of the late Edgar J. and Mary Elizabeth Aurmick Winans.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She attended public schools in Spencerville, OH.
She was a homemaker, except for a few years during World War II when she was a receptionist for Westinghouse Corporation.
She was a member of the League of Women Voters and a Welcome Wagon Hostess.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Wilson of Berkeley Springs; twin sisters, Lovena Pearl Pollock of Haines City, FL and Elizabeth Muriel Wagner of Defiance, OH; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice "Tom" Davidson in 1981; one daughter, Lovena Muriel Minton; and two brothers, Carroll Eugene Winans and Raymond Winans.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 26 at the Spencerville Cemetery, Spencerville, with Pastor Ron Hennon officiating.

Fred D. Zettle, 92, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Pleasant Gap, PA, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Born March 13, 1908 in Pleasant Gap, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel Wesley Warren and Lolita Evey Zettle.
He was a graduate of the Bellefonte Academy and the Scranton Lackawanna Business College in Scranton, PA. He had been a clerk for O.W. Houts & Son. He had been previously employed at a post office in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the Pleasant Gap Methodist Church, AARP in Lakeland, FL and a founding member of the Moose Lodge in Berkeley Springs, WV. He ran Zettle's hot dog stand at the Grange Fair.
He is survived by his wife Virginia G. Miller whom he married on October 2, 1943 in Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Lorna Bass of Vienna, VA, Lynda Osborn of Henderson, KY and Colleen Williamson of Rufkin, FL; two sons, W. Edward Zettle of Zion, PA and Fred Zettle, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; one brother, Budd Zettle of North Myrtle Beach, NC; 12 grandchildren and one great grandson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services were held on Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at Koch Funeral Home, State College, PA. Burial was in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, PA.

Kathy Lynn Hoover, 43, of Kearneysville, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at her home.
Born in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of Evalien Janey of Patterson Creek and the late Roy Wheeler.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Inwood.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother and her stepfather, Edward Janey; she is survived by her husband, George Hoover; three daughters, April Lynn Jones of Inwood and Ann Marie Hoover and Amy Jo Hoover, both at home; two brothers, Frank Wheeler of Ridgeley and Mike Wheeler of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Nilda Green of Winchester, VA and JoAnn Hoover of Mt. Jackson, VA; and one granddaughter, Kathlyn Joy Jones.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 26 at the First Baptist Church of Inwood, with Pastor Devin Ward officiating. Interment was in the Rosedale Cemetery.

She was born April 28, 1951 in Morgan County, WV, daughter of the late Joseph Willard and Gladys Mae Holliday McIntyre.

She was employed by Senior Life Services of Morgan County and EastRidge Health Center.

She is survived by one daughter, Tina Wilt of Falling Waters; five grandchildren, Paul Martin III, Nicole Wheeler, David Wilt, Hallie Wilt and Cameron Byrd; two brothers, Roland Doering and Butch Doering, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Irene Bennett of Wheeling and Alice Siegert of Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Moses Ayers; one son, Paul Martin Jr.; one brother, Charles Doering; and one sister, Delores Lanham.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with Pastor Donald B. Smith and Pastor Thomas L. Tennis officiating. Interment was in the Rosedale Cemetery.
E. Virgil Yost

Edward Virgil Yost, 87, of Berkeley Springs, died June 28, 2000 at his home under the care of Hospice.
Born in Morgan County October 23, 1912, he was the son of the late Leonard M.Yost and Bessie Michael Yost.
He was a retired self-employed milk and cream hauler.
He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Lodge #117 of Berkeley Springs for 54 years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Zeilor Yost; three sons, Richard E. Yost and David W. Yost, both of Berkeley Springs and Gary F. Yost of Winchester, VA; three sisters, Ama Catlett, Louella Andrews and Betty Trittipoe, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Frank Yost of Rocky Mount, NC; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Edward V. Yost, Jr.; five brothers and one sister.
Memorial services were held Sunday, July 2, at 2 p.m. at the Berkeley Springs Church of Christ with Clarence McDowell officiating. Burial at the convenience of the family.

Jackie Loy Corbett III, 19, of Falling Waters, WV, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at his home.
Born December 21, 1980, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Jackie Loy Corbett II of Florida and Jean Louise McCormick of Falling Waters.
He attended Hagerstown and Hedgesville, WV schools.
He was formerly employed by the U.S. Census Bureau, Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, Joseph J. Procopio of Falling Waters; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Mean McCormick of Hancock, MD; and paternal grandmother, Judith Corbett of Hancock.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Alfred E. McCormick; and his paternal grandfather, Jackie Loy Corbett I.
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 30 at the Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, MD, with the Rev. T. Matthew Rowgh officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family.

John Sewell Balenger, 70, of Bunker Hill, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born September 25, 1929 in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Raymond S. Balenger and Eleanor Thatcher Balenger.
He was a member of the Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church.
He was a 1947 graduate of Bunker Hill High School.
He retired from Crown, Cork and Seal, Winchester, VA. He was a dairy farmer for several years in Berkeley County.
He was a former member of the Berkeley County Civil Air Patrol as a pilot and a member of Berkeley County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ida Loretta LaCount Balenger, at home; two sons, Raymond L. "Butch" Balenger and John Richard Balenger, both of Bunker Hill; two daughters, Nancy L. Shipper of Jones Spring and Sharon A. Balenger of Morgantown; five grandchildren, Adam L. Balenger, Matthew Balenger, Lucas D. Shipper, Kelsey B. Shipper and Logan S. Shipper; one brother, James H. Balenger of Martinsburg; two sisters, Betty Bealman of Berkeley Springs and Rebecca Smith Ritchey of Louisville, KY; three aunts; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Balenger.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, at the Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John E. Harris officiating. Interment was private.

Cynthia Ann Nelson, 46, of Hancock, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 at the University of Maryland Medi-cal Center in Baltimore, MD.
Born April 9, 1954 in Chicago, IL, she is the daughter of Arthur and Elda Ann Malmin Hagstrom of Hoffman Estates, IL.
She was a graduate of the School of Bible and Music in Grand Rapids, MI.
She was an aide at Pine Ridge Nursing Home, Warfordsburg, PA. She was a horse trainer for Keith Kirk; a gardner and did housecleaning for a number of people in the Hancock area.
She was organist for and an active member of the Bethel Community Church near War-fordsburg.
Besides her parents she is survived by her husband, Jonathan Alan Nelson of Hancock, whom she married October 15, 1977 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Hoffman Estates; one sister, Sharon James of Hoffman Estates; one brother, William Hagstrom of Oklahoma City, OK; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one aunt.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Bethel Community Church. The Rev. Gary Quackenbos officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
