Mary Elizabeth Lawson Church Hill, 67, of Jesse, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday August 25, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. Mary was born March 23, 1940, in Premier, WV, a daughter of the late William Richard "Bill" and Glada Elizabeth Dillon Lawson. She was a retired cook from Berlin McKinney Elementary School, a member of the Guyanndotte Baptist Church, West Virginia Hillbillies Winnebago Club, American School Food Service Association, past Sec. of the Winnebago Ataska Travel Club, Wyoming County Schools Retired Service Personnel, a winner of the Louise Sublet Award given nationally for excellence in school cooking. Her first husband Danny Joel Church and her niece Elizabeth Ann Toler also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her loving husband James A. Hill, a daughter Mary Beth Church Lester of Jesse, WV; a son John Matthew Church and wife Vonda of Garwood, WV; four grandchildren Matthew Stephen Stewart, Danielle LeAnn Bailey, Josh Church and Stephanie Church; a sister Gladys Jean Toler and husband Pete of Berlin Heights, OH; a brother William Richard Lawson and wife Paulette of Bolt, WV; two nephews Christopher Lloyd Lawson and wife Paula of Teays Valley, WV and William Kevin Lawson of New Orleans, LA; a niece Deborah Lynn McArdle and husband Jim of Huntersville, NC; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday August 28, 2007 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Pastor Herman Cook officiating. Mary will be laid to rest beside her first husband Danny Joel Church in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
Friends may call from 6 - 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Richard Roy "Buckwheat" Buckland, 43, of Oceana, WV, entered into his new life on Tuesday August 28, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital after a long illness. He was born September 19, 1963 in Franklin County, Ohio, a son of the late Ronald Earl Buckland and Delcia Natalee Stafford Buckland of Oceana, WV. Buckwheat was a disabled construction worker, attended the Appostolic Faith Tabernacle where his hero Curt Stafford is pastor and he also visited the Ark of Saftey Church where he had many loving friends. His infant brother Ronald Earl Buckland, Jr. and infant sister Mary Darlene Buckland also preceded him in death along with two nieces Kimberly Lynn Carter Hicks and Vanessa Shivley and a nephew John Wesley. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 24 years Vanessa May Atwell Buckland; his very special mother Delcia Natalee Stafford Buckland of Oceana, WV; a son Richard Earl Buckland at home; a daughter Ashley Marie Buckland at home; two sisters Patricia Carol and husband Clarence of Oceana, WV and Martha Lena Roberts and husband Shelby of Oceana, WV; a brother Jackie Buckland and wife Carol of Oceana, WV; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Minister Herman Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest in Pine Grove cemetery, Ravencliff, WV.

Paris Stewart, 50, of Oceana, WV passed away Monday August 13, 2007 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born June 4, 1957 in Welch, West Virginia, a son of the late Herdon Paris and Earnie Betty Toler Stewart.
His brother Joseph Leon Stewart and a niece Ambara Lusk also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons Paris Stewart, Jr. and wife Eva of New Richmond, WV and Adam Stewart of Cyclone, WV; two daughters Christy Stewart of King Mountain, NC and Mary Elizabeth Stewart and companion Dennis Moore of Oceana, WV; four grandchildren Brianna, Nathan, Cassie and Michael; three sisters Pollyann Stone and husband Allen of Shady Spring, WV, Brenda Harvey and husband Paul of Kopperston, WV and Linda Lusk and husband Delmas of Alderson, WV; four brothers Anthony Stewart and wife Joyce of Oceana, WV, James A. Stewart of Lexington, NC, Terry G. Stewart and wife Nan of Fredricksburg, VA, and Gary Stewart and wife Rhonda of Kopperston, WV; the mother of his children Kathy Workman of Cyclone, WV; his long time companion Linda Daniels of Kopperston, WV; 23 nieces and nephews; a special friend Jan Perry and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday August 16, 2007 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Minister Eual Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Kopperston Community cemetery, Kopperston, WV. Friends may call from Noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Rhonda Kay "Susie" Toler Jackson, 49, of North Spring, WV, went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2007 at Charleston Area Medical Center from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. She is the daughter of Joyce D. Toler of Lynco, WV and the late David M. Toler. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Tanisha Chyenne Conn, paternal grandparents Garland and Martha Toler and maternal grandparents Jocie P. Blankenship and Lee Morgan. Survivors include two sons Adam L. Toler and wife Becky of New Richmond, WV and Kelly S. Conn and wife Natasha of Simon, WV; a daughter Valeria D. Pennybaker and husband James of Newark, OH; two sisters Donita Lester of Oceana, WV and Maretta Higley and husband Joel of Roanoke, VA; three brothers Jeffery Toler and wife Virgie of Lorado, WV, Delmas Toler and fiancee` Tonya of Lynco, WV and Arland Toler and wife Judy of Hanover, WV; nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; husband Tennis "Chess" Jackson of North Spring, WV; two step-sons Josh and Jeremy Jackson; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday August 21, 2007 at Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Barry Brooks, Bro. Richard Massey and Pastor Lonnie Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Toler cemetery, Rock House, WV. Friends may call after 6 on Sunday and Monday evenings at the church.

Mary Alice Prichard Pelphrey, 72, of Ravencliff, WV, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday July 26, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV.
Mary was born January 10, 1935 in Lovely, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Boyd and Gracie Prichard. Mary was a homemaker and a loving mother, sister and friend to everyone who knew her. A grandson Craig Pelphrey also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter Debroah Diane Lester and husband Larry of Shady Spring; eight sons Ronald Lee Pelphrey and wife Rena of Lynco, Gary Eugene Pelphrey and Douglas Ray Pelphrey both of Ravencliff, William Gregory Pelphrey and wife Laurie of Crab Orchard, Kevin Duane Pelphrey and wife Sue of Bloomfield, KY, Darren Scott Pelphrey and wife Diane of Adrian, MI, James Allen Pelphrey and wife Debbie of Port Richey, FL and Robert Eugene Pelphrey; five sisters Ruth Lovins and husband Willard of Keyrock, Maggie Balnkenship, Delma Stacy and husband Lonnie and Janet Hicks and husband Ricky all of Oceana, Reva Goodwin and husband Charles of Cyclone; five brothers Earl Prichard and wife Gloria, Doug "Mack" Prichard and wife Betty Jo and Boyd Prichard, Jr. and wife Mary all of Oceana, Ernest Prichard and wife Peggy of McGraw and Michael Prichard and wife Belinda of Glen Fork; fifteen grandchildren Jamie & Travis Lester, Rebecca Stewart, Scott Pelphrey, Krista Pelphrey, Sheryl Adkins, Jordan Pelphrey, Carly Weskland, Amanda, Lenny, Kenny, Samantha, Kyle and Cassandra Pelphrey and Kara Snyder; nine great grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday July 29, 2007 at Oceana Freewill Baptist Church, Oceana, with Pastor Jackie Grimmett officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may call from 6 - 9:00 PM Saturday at the church. Pallbearers will be family members. Alvin Henry "Curly" Burke, 81, of Lynco, WV, passed away Friday August 3, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. Curly was born December 28, 1925 in Belgium Hollow, Virginia a son of the late Harrison and Myrtle Cooper Burke. After 42 years as a coal miner in West Virginia and Kentucky he retired from Peabody Coal Company and was a member of the U.M.W.A. His grandson Chris Wells also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters Onia Gibson and companion Steve Blankenship of Lynco, WV, Katherine Miller and husband Larry of Lakeland, FL and Anna Wells and husband Wesley of Greenwood, IN; two sons Alvin Burke of Lynco, WV and Christopher "Chris" Burke and wife Cheryl of Bartow, FL; eleven grandchildren Teddy Gibson, Karina Cline, Melissa Troiano, Stephanie Haney, Samantha Shelley, Mack Wells, Alinna Wells, Alvin Burke, Jr., Leah Burke, Lacey and Clayton; fifteen great grandchildren Whitney, Austin, Jaiden, Dystanie, Kenny, Audrey, Fara, Morgan, Ashlyn, Jadyn, Madisyn, Gavin, Miguel, Brayden and Braylea; Alvin had fourteen sisters and brothers; a very special friend Claudette Thomas of Lynco, WV; his faithful dog Lucy and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday August 7, 2007 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Hannibal Blankenship, Jr. officiating and eulogy by Scotty Lusk.
Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may call from 6 - 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Jamie Don Steele, 29, of Panther, WV passed away Thursday July 26, 2007. He was born August 18, 1977 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Donald Steele and Irene Cline Steele of Iaeger, WV. Jamie was an avid fisherman. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents James and Helen Cline, paternal grandfather Elisha Steele, grandparents Elisha “Preacher” and Alice Roberts, a special uncle Junior Roberts and a nephew Baby Cameron Steele.
Survivors include his mother Irene Steele and step-father Quincy Steele of Iaeger, WV; step-mother Karen Steele of Avondale, WV; grandmother Geraldine Steele of Panther, WV; five brothers Denny Steele and wife Deidra of Princeton, WV, Billy Joe “BJ” Steele and wife Kimberly of Iaeger, WV, William Nathan “Pooh Bear” Steele of Avondale, WV, Matthew Steele and wife Samantha of Avondale, WV and Bobby Steele and companion Brandi of Iaeger, WV; a sister Melissa “Pooh” Trent and husband Clyde of Iaeger, WV; his companion Barbara Branham; a very special friend Tony Roberts of Iaeger, WV and his son; four nephews and one niece and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday July 31, 2007 at Little Wonder Church of God at Avondale, WV, with Pastor Kedar Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Doyle Riffe cemetery, Coon Branch, WV. Friends may call after 6:00 PM Monday at the church. Pallbearers will be Friends and family. Dixie Carol Lambert Dunbar, 54, of Oceana, WV, passed away Wednesday July 4, 2007 at her home. She was born April 18, 1953 in Beckley, WV a daughter of the late Donnie Hofford and Mabel Magdalene Lambert. Dixie was a loving mother and homemaker. Her sister Donna Sue Cozort also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons Eric Spence Dunbar of Oceana, WV and Terry Lee Dunbar II and wife Connie Sue of Oak Hill, WV; six grandchildren Erica JoDunbar, Emily Carol Dunbar, Bradley Spencer Dunbar, Alexandria Nicole Dunbar, Terry Raymond Dunbar and Adam Ray Dunbar; seven sisters Elsie Berdect, Lila Smallwood, Mazie Harrison all of Eccles, WV, Phillis Cook of Arnet, WV, Mabel Daniels of Harper, WV, Loretta Color of Wyoming and Carrie Williams of Artie, WV; two brothers Donald Lambert of Harper, WV and Ricky Lambert of Beckley, WV;and a host of other loving family and friends Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday July 8, 2007 at the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, Lillydale, WV with Pastor Curtis Stafford and Sister Tina Pelphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunbar Family cemetery, Clear Creek, WV. Friends may call from Noon until service time at the church. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Harry Kenneth Vint, 83, of Lynco, WV, passed away Wednesday July 23, 2008 at the Bower Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born April 10, 1924 in Raleigh County, WV, a son of the late Harry and Virgie Kidd Vint. Kenneth was a coal miner and lumberjack and of the Pentecostal Faith. He enjoyed walking, socializing with family and friends and fishing.
His six brothers Roger Vint, Royal Vint, Rondel Vint, James "JR" Vint, Curtis Vint and Hershel Vint and two sisters Mary Belcher and Opal Cook also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife Virginia Isabelle Purvess Vint; five sons Harold James Vint, Ricky Willard Vint, David Clayton Vint, Frankie Adam Vint and Carl Edward Vint and wife Edna; a daughter Sue Price; a special grandson Danny Brown; a sister Alice Trent; along with a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday July 25, 2008 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Eddie B. Aliff, Jr. officiating. Kenneth will be laid to rest in Raymond Cook cemetery Lynco, WV. Friends may call from 6 - 9:00 PM Thursday July 24, 2008 at the funeral home.

Iva Mae Harless Ellis, 83, of Crouches Farm, WV, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday July 25, 2008 at Heartland of Beckley. Iva was a cafeteria worker for many years at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. She was a member of the St. Petersburg Presbyterian Church, where she loved volunteering her time for many church functions.
She was born September 2, 1923 in Amherstdale, WV, a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Ester Porter Harless. Her brother Edward "Bino" Harless of Crouches Farm, also preceded her in death. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Iva was a sister-in-law to Macie Harless of Crouches Farm and an aunt to Edward "Ed" Harless, Jr. and wife Freda of Crouches Farm and Joyel Harless and Parrish Harless both of Huntington, WV. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Iva will be cremated, as was her wishes and her cremains will be scattered over the ocean. The family wishes to give a very special thanks to Heartland of Beckley and their staff for the loving care you gave to Iva. Letters of sympathy may be sent to Stafford Family Funeral Home.. Ralph Dale Browning, 60, of Rockview, WV, passed away Friday July 25, 2008 in Glen Fork, WV. He was born May 30, 1948, in Verner, West Virginia a son of the late Ola Browning and Zola Browning New of Coal Mountain, WV. Dale was a retired coal miner, having worked for US Steel at their Pinnacle Creek mines and a member of the UMWA. He was also preceded in death by four brothers Gene Browning, Chris Browning, Eddie Browning and Terry Browning and a sister Melissa Browning.
Survivors also include two daughters Tammy Talbert and husband William "Bub" of Pineville and Tara Browning of Mill Creek; a son Justin Browning and wife Ashley of Lynco; four grandchildren Cody Smith, Bo Hunter Talbert, Luke Spencer and Aiden Browning; his companion Carolyn R. Shumate "Dale's Teddy Bear" of New Richmond; her parents Willard and Ruth Lovins of Rockview; her two daughters Valerie McCoy and boyfriend Edward Foster of Keyrock and Veronica McCoy and boyfriend David "Shorty" Tilley of Glen Fork; her two grandsons Dominique Foster and Ethan Tilley; two brothers Kent Browning and wife Joann of Coal Mountain and Vent Browning and wife Roleana of Gilbert; three sisters Neva Browning and husband Farley of Gilbert, Dottie Lester and husband Frank of Verner and Bernice Keneda and husband Albert of Simon; a sister-in-law Debrah Browning of Justice; step-father Douglas New of Coal Mountain; 22 nephews; 14 nieces and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday July 31, 2008 at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco with Pastor Mervin White officiating. Dale will be laid to rest in Skyline cemetery, Justice, WV. Friends may call from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home.

Virgil Trump, 71, of McGraws, WV passed away Wednesday July 30, 2008 at his home. He was a retired machine operator in a metal fabrication plant and a US Army Veteran and of the Holliness faith. It was Virgil's wish to be cremated, there will be no services. Letters of sympathy may be sent to Stafford Family Funeral Home.. Marcella Sue Belcher Trent, 42, of Kopperston, WV, left by the hand of Jesus on July 31, 2008 at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV after a very long and brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was born October 22, 1965 in Welch, WV. She loved all of her family and will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her father Guy Belcher, a brother Guy Belcher, Jr. and two brothers-in-law Buford Joseph Lester and Bobby Lee Morgan. Survivors include her husband Jimmie R. Trent II and daughter Samantha Rae Trent. Other survivors include her mother Bessie Belcher of Clear Fork, WV; two sisters Myrtle Marie Jordan of Clear Fork, and Angela Michelle Lester of Oceana; two brothers Rodney Dale Belcher and Roger Dean Belcher both of Oceana, WV; a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday August 4, 2008 at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at 1:40 PM.
