Jerry Lee Smith, 68, of , Clear Fork, WV passed away February 15, 2011 at Cyclone, WV.
He was born August 11, 1942 in WV, the son of the late Jim Smith and the late Elizabeth
Jane Blankenship Banther. He worked for many years for B&L Excavation. Also preceding
him in death was a brother Billy Joe Smith. Survivors include his loving wife Inez Justice
Smith; three daughters Terri Parson and husband Ivan of NC, Angela Morgan and husband
Darrell of Clear Fork, WV, Elizabeth McAlpin and husband Bobby of NC; four sons Gary
Wayne Smith and wife Shelly of Cedar Creek, WV, Clint Smith and wife Mary of Brier
Creek, WV, Jerry Lee Smith Jr. and wife Raeann of Cedar Creek, WV and Nicholas Smith
and wife Charlisa of Cedar Creek, WV; sixteen grandchildren Kim Dewayne Wells Jr.
Benjamin Keith Wells, Stephen Wells, Cory Wells, Leigha Sprouse, Gary Wayne Smith Jr.,
Jessica Lynn Morgan, Brittany Dawn Toler, Clint Smith Jr., Dustin Garrett Smith, Sarah
Lasha Smith, Chelsea Smith, Lyndsey Smith, Ashley Steele, Brianna Tucker and Abigail
McAlpin; seven great-grandchildren Hannah Toler, Markus Toler, Jacob Spade, Brandy
Wells, Kalia Wells, Emily Wells and Alexis Wells; one sister Bessie P. Blankenship of Lynco,
WV; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon
Saturday February 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with
Rev. Firg Proffitt officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Smith Family cemetery, Cedar
Creek, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 10 until time of service at the funeral

William Paul Cook, 55, of Pineville, WV, formerly of Beckley, WV went home to be with the
Lord on February 16, 2011 at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville, OH. He was born November
10, 1955 in Oceana, WV, a son of the late Calvin Paul Cook and Dixie Arvella Poe Cook.
He was a US Air Force Veteran, 1973 graduate of Oceana High School, life member of the
DAV, American Legion and of the Pentecostal Faith. Also preceding him in death were his
first wife Wanda Stacy Cook and two sisters Ruby Darlene Cook and Delores Kay Cook.
Survivors include his loving wife Cathy Cook; two daughters Heather Jeanne Belcher and
husband Danny of Clear Fork, WV, Tabatha Lynn Kenneda and husband Jay of Pineville,
WV; a son Kevin Arlin Hatfield and wife Jessie of Pineville, WV; six grandchildren that he
loved very much Steven Belcher, Danielle Brooke Belcher, Whitney Dawn Hatfield,
Deanna Lynn Kenneda, Christopher Arlin Hatfiled and Hanna “Hannah Bug” Kenneda; two
sisters Betty Faye Arrington and husband Kenneth of Lynco, WV and Geneva Lynn Ingram
and husband Jimbo of Mullens, WV; two brothers Phillip Cook and wife Billy of Welch, WV
and Barry Cook and wife Gloria of Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday February 21, 2011 at the Pentecostal
House of Prayer, Lynco, with the Rev. Jerry McCoy officiating. He will be laid to rest in
Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the
Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may gather with the family after 6:00 PM

Dovie Elswick Rollins, 66 of Crany, WV, passed away on Tuesday February 22, 2011 at
her home. She was born November 19, 1944 in Lorado, WV, a daughter of the late
Theodore and Nealy Osborne Elswick. Also preceding her in death are four brothers
Eugene Elswick, James A “Pug” Elswick , Cyrus Elswick and Frank Osborne. She was a
member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include her loving husband
Charles Rollins; a daughter Paula Acord and husband Eddie of Kopperston, WV; a son
Charles “Chuck” Rollins Jr. and wife Kathy of Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren Chafin
Rollins, Andrew Rollins and Theodore “Shorty”Acord; two sisters Dorothy Gayhart of
Beckley, WV, Corine Blankenship of Kopperston, WV; two brothers Bob Elswick and wife
Mary Ann of Milton, WV, Ralph Elswick and wife Verna of Huntington, WV; three sister-in-
laws Hazel Elswick of Kopperston, WV, Mary Johnson and husband Bill of Crany, WV and
Freda Smith and husband Bud of Crany, WV; two brother-in-laws Bob Rollins and wife
Donna of Crany, WV and Cecil Rollins and wife Donna of Crany, WV; and a host of other

Jimmy Wayne “Crickett” Crider, Sr., 55, of Lynco, WV, received his wings on Tuesday
March 1, 2011 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. He was
born April 17, 1955 in Harlen, KY, a son of the late Walter and Loudie Dean Crider. Jimmy
was a retired coal miner having worked at Harris Mines and Wells, and a member of the
UMWA. Jimmy loved the Lord with his whole heart. In addition to his parents, a brother
and two sisters preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife
Betty Hatfield Crider; a very special friend Darrell Fernatt of Lynco, WV; a sister Timmie
Beaver and husband David of Concord, NC; a son Jimmy Wayne Crider, Jr., his wife
Brenda and four grandchildren of Beckley, WV; three daughters Amanda Shields, her
husband Adam and four grandchildren of Mullens, WV, Crystal Christian, her husband
Doug and two grandchildren of Kopperston, WV, and Kathy Hatfield, her husband Virgil
and a grandchild of Oceana, WV; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and
friends. Jimmy will be sadly missed by anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him.

Nellie Gaye “Bandit” Vass McComas, 49, of Saulsville, WV, left this world on Friday,
March 4, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV following a short illness. She was
born April 16, 1961 in Mullens, WV, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Norma Vass.
She was also preceded in death by a special nephew Carlos D. Horton. Nellie loved
spending time with her family and was friendly with everyone she met. She was an avid
equestrian and thoroughly enjoyed going to different horse shows and events. She will be
greatly missed by her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are: her
husband of 31 years, Ronnie Dean McComas, Sr. of Saulsville, her daughter, Darla D.
McComas of Saulsville and her son Ronnie D. McComas, Jr. of Saulsville. Six sisters:
Debbie Brooks, Linda (Randy) Spears of Bolt; Connie (Bruce) Horton of Beckley, Gloria

Juanita Morgan-Cook, 87, of Matheny, WV, left her earthly home to go to her Heavenly
home, on Tuesday March 8, 2011, at her home, with her loving family by her side. She was
born March 22, 1923 at Elk Lick, WV a daughter of the late Bert and Hannah Short. Mrs.
Cook was a charter member of The Oceana First Church of God. She was preceded in
death by her first loving husband, of fifty five years, Charlie Morgan and her second loving
husband, of two years, Raleigh Cook, parents, Bert and Hannah Short, two sisters, Edith
Short, Inez Chapman, a brother Bert Short, Jr., two sons, Roger Cook and Jim Cook. She
is survived by six sons Eudell (Frances) Morgan of Dover, TN, Ronald (Carolyn) Cook, of
Oceana, WV, Leo Morgan, of Pinehurst, NC., David Morgan, of Pigeon Forge, TN., Lloyd
Cook, of Matheny, WV, and Terry (Marty) Morgan, of Fairfield, OH, three daughters, Judy
Cook (Ken) Buskirk, of Virginia Beach, VA. Lorane Morgan (Dan) Hawk, Pilot Mtn, NC,
Diane Cook (Charlie) Meadows, of Oceana, WV, three brothers, Vern Short, Kermit (Reva)
Short, Wonnie (Chestine)Short, two sisters, Verlee Stewart and Erdene (Howard) Snider,
28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family and spending
time with them. She loved her church and her church family. She was happiest helping
other people. There is a big void on earth and a celebration in Heaven. Funeral services
will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 12, 2011 at Oceana First Church of God with,
her grandson, Pastor Ty Morgan officiating. Friends may call at Oceana First Church of
God, on Cook Parkway in Oceana on Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the
service on Saturday. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Grandsons

James Vanover, 80, of Welch, WV, passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at the
Golden Harvest Nursing Home. He was born April 3, 1930 in Iaeger, WV, a son of the late
Everett Vanover and Cassie Steele Vanover Wilmer. He was a retired coal miner who lived
most of his life in McDowell County. Also preceding him in death, two sisters Patsy and
Inez Vanover; first wife Edith Roberts Vanover; second wife Thelma Johnston Stump
Vanover; a son Luther Vanover; brother Glen “Tiny” Vanover; stepson Robert Stump and
stepdaughter Ginger Johnson French. Survivors include his children Imogene Jarrells and
husband Roger, Buford Vanover and his companion Ruby Burks, Hilda Lively and husband
David, Wilma Johnston and husband Alan, Luther’s wife Terry Vanover, Willard Vanover,
Edward “Eddie” Vanover and wife Lisa, Mark Vanover and companion Jackie, Jason
Vanover, Paul Gibson and wife Sonya and Wesley Johnson. Also left to cherish his
memory are his sisters Betty Rose, Athalene “Sis” Addair and husband Foster; brothers
Estel Vanover and wife Doris, Harold Vanover and wife Patty. James had eight children,
four stepchildren, nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, five step
grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on

Rev. Hannibal Blankenship Jr. officiating. He will be laid to rest in High Knob cemetery

Sara Renee’ Cline Lomangino, 19, of Clear Fork was taken from this world to be an
angel of the Lord on March 14, 2011 in a car accident. She was born August 25, 1991 at
Logan General Hospital, Sara was a gifted child, Shirley Temple twin and a star
basketball player at Baileysville Elementary School, she also played baseball and softball.
Sara was a 2005 freshman at Westside before transferring to Port Jarvis High in New
York. She loved music, sports, people, life, animals, but mostly her family. She was
employed at Pizza Hut in Oceana. Sara was preceded in death by her grandfather Donnie
Blankenship, a special uncle Paul Ray Blankenship and her cat Stinky. Survivors include
her husband Jerry Lomangino of Port Jarvis, NY; her father and step mother Joey and
Sherry Cline of Clear Fork; her mother Carrie Blankenship of Montque, NJ; her sisters at
home Rebecca Paige Cline and Jocie Irene Cline of Clear Fork; Stepsister Beth Jones of
Beckley; Stepbrothers Jason Walker of Clear Fork and Timmy Walker of Cumberland,
MD; Grandparents Bobby and Yvonne Cline of Clear Fork, Diane Blankenship of Oceana;
Uncles and Aunts who were her big brothers and sisters Tony and Pam Cline, Eddie and
Christy Cline, Faith and Kevin Morgan of Clear Fork, Hope Cline of Beckley, Dale and
