Faithful to her Savior unto death, Marion Virginia Bailey Tilley departed this life on March 6, 2008. Born July 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Terry Ross and Alice Brown Bailey. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 55 years, Roy E. Tilley; her first grandson David Elkins; her son-in-law Jack Elkins; brothers Terry R. Bailey, Jr. and Leon Bailey; and sister's Mavis Snuffer and Marie Murelli.
Mrs. Tilley was a devoted wife and loving homemaker. She had lived in Sabine since 1959 and had been a member of the Bellemeade Missionary Baptist Church since 1962. Besides spending time caring for her family and serving her church, her joy was in studying God's Word. She particularly enjoyed the teaching of J. Vernon McGhee and was quick to share his thoughts on most any Bible topic. She also took great pleasure in her flowers and could coax a bloom from the most stubborn of plants. She loved watching the birds and her backyard served as the feeding grounds for countless birds, squirrels and a couple of shy foxes. Her plants and her birds will miss her.
Those left to mourn her passing include her dear brother and faithful friend, Donald Bailey of Sabine, her daughter and primary caregiver, Judy Elkins of Oceana, her sons Ted Tilley and wife Patsy of Davin and Ray Tilley and wife Terri of Beaver.
Marion will also be missed by granddaughter Pamela Elkins Huff, husband Ed, and son Cody of Tazewell, Virginia; granddaughter Crystal Tilley Stewart, husband Mike and daughters Alexandria and Myleigh of Matheny; grandson Jason Tilley, wife Tanya, and daughter Kelsey of McGraws; grandson Matthew Tilley and wife Amanda of Newport News; Virginia, and granddaughter Leila Tilley Northrop, husband Charles and sons Caleb, Eli, and David of Beckley.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside ceremony will be conducted by Reverend Clarence Gibson at 2:00 PM Saturday March 8, 2008 at the Clay cemetery in Saulsville, where Marion's remains will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Marion's church home: Bellemeade Missionary Baptist Church, General Delivery, Sabine, WV 25916 or to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
The family wishes to thank Family Healthcare Associates of Oceana, particularly Jeff Prichard, Hospice of Southern West Virginia and Stafford Family Funeral Home for the care provided to Mrs. Tilley.
