James Estel Palmer, 72, of Ashville, OH went to be with the Lord on Monday July 16, 2012 at his home.
He was born April 24, 1940 in Pageton, WV, a son of the late John and India Mitchem Palmer. James was
a retired assembly line worker for General Motors, and attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Jesus
Name in Columbus, OH. Also preceding him in death four brothers Lawrence Palmer, Carl Palmer, Clark
Palmer, and Charlie Palmer; four sisters Rosey Cole, Victoria Palmer, Lucille Combs, and Bertha Parks.
Survivors include two daughters Debra Fye and husband Sam of Tenfield, PA and Stacey Lynn Reagor
and husband Kevin of Edmon, OK; three sisters Millie Stafford and husband David with whom he made his
home, Helen Sizemore of Wyoming, WV and Leona Crowder of Morristown, TN; six grandchildren; a sister-
in-law Mary Palmer of Flint, MI; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at
1:00 PM on Friday July 20, 2012 in the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle with Pastor Curt Stafford officiating.
He will be laid to rest in the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may call from 6 – 9:00 PM

Ruby Gail Rogers Toler, of Riverview “Slabtown”, WV went to be with to be with the Lord on Tuesday
July 17, 2012 at her home. She was born in Pikeville, KY, a daughter of the late Pat and Bessie Gillispie
Rogers. Ruby was a retired Personal Care Giver and attended the Riverview Freewill Baptist Church.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters Martha Moore, Peggy Johnson and Freda Ellis and a
brother Patty Rogers. Survivors include her loving husband of 34 years Terry Lee Toler; three daughters
Linda Simpson and Chris Black of Gainesville, GA, Tonya Cosner and Joseph of Statesville, NC and
Misty Browning and Larry of Statesville, NC; a son Terry Eugene Toler and Becky of Statesville, NC; a
sister Patricia Justus of Statesville, NC; two brothers Elmer Rogers and Larry Rogers both of Statesville,
NC; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a special friend Bonnie Richards of Riverview; and a
host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Sunday July 22, 2012 in
the Riverview Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Browning and Rev. Jimmy Joe Grimmett

Oley Ben Cline, 87, of New Richmond, WV, formerly of Brenton, WV passed away on Monday July 23,
2012 at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, WV. He was born May 11, 1925 in
Christian, WV, a son of the late John and Mandy Harper Cline. He was a retired logger and loving
husband and father. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise Elswick
Cline, three sons Millard Dewayne Cline, James Benny Cline and Timothy Cline, two daughters Shirley
Jean Hatfield and Flossie Ray and his step mother who raised him Nancy Cline. Survivors include two
daughters Peggy Sue Hatfield of Matheny and Debra Kay (James) Hill of Castle Hayne, NC; five sons
Jeffery Lenn Cline of Brenton, Carl Richard (Donna) Cline of Brenton, Charles Frank (Carol) Cline of
Brenton, Terry Lenn (Barbara) Cline of Brenton, and Kendel Ray (Mary Lou) Elswick of Brenton;
twenty-two grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; three sisters Frankie Cline of Long Branch,
Vonnie Massey of Oceana and Jean Morgan of Long Branch; and many other loving family and friends.

Gathern Dillard “Doug” Waldon, 77, of Simon, WV, formerly of Simon, WV passed away on Friday
July 20, 2012 at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Lexington, KY. He was born March 31,
1935 in Hurley, VA, a son of the late Bill and Goldie Justice Waldon. Gathern was a Navy Veteran. Also
preceding him in death is his wife Arlene Francis Kennedy Waldon. Survivors include one son Dillard
Anthony “Tony” Waldon of Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends. Graveside services will
be held Friday August 3, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Lockhart Family cemetery, Panther, WV. In keeping

Edward Brian Cook, 49, of New Richmond, WV went to soar with the Eagles on Thursday July 26,
2012 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. He was born September 21, 1962 in Passaic,
NJ a son of Edward Boyd and Yvonne England Cook. Brian was a loving son and brother and had
worked 8 years at the House of Wonder in Maben, WV. He was preceded in death by grandparents
Kelsie and Ruby England, and Arnold and Bessie Cook. Survivors include his loving parents Edward
Boyd and Yvonne England Cook of New Richmond; two sisters Debra (Randy) Shrader of South Port,
NC, and Lori Cook of New Richmond; a brother Dale (Renee) Cook of New Richmond; two nieces
Lindsey and Michaela; three nephews Brad, Cody and Adam and a host of other loving family and

Judy Florence Tolliver Little, 37, of Wayside, WV, passed away on Thursday August 2,
2012 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. Judy was born August 15, 1974 in
Beckley, WV a daughter of Helen Tolliver and the late Johnny Anderson. She was a
homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband Elvis Little; her mother
Helen of Beckley, WV; two daughters Kristen Faith Little and Jessica Telina Little both of
Wayside; two sons Gregory Calloway Little and Levi Jordan Little both of Wayside; a

James Matthew Mills, 44, of Shannon Mill Creek, WV passed away on Tuesday August 7, 2012 at his
home. He was born March 11, 1968, a son of Mary Lou Carroll Elswick of Mill Creek, WV and the late
Dallas Denny Mills, Sr. He was a disabled coal truck driver and a member of the Brenton Volunteer Fire
Department. James was also preceded in death by his wife Victoria Ramsey Mills. Survivors include three
daughters Arleda Jean Trent of Hamilton, OH, Heather Marie (Frankie Dale) Collins of Turkey Creek, WV,
and Amanda Dawn Stacy of Mill Creek, WV; three sons Jason Lee (Patricia) Steele of Hamilton, OH,
Larry Jean (Holly) Steele of Turkey Creek, WV, and Travis Miller of Brenton, WV; a sister Myra Lynn
(Stephen) Griffith of Mill Creek, WV; a brother Dallas Denny (Barbara) Mills, Jr. of Glade Springs, WV and

Angela Gail Varney, 19, of Lynco, WV, departed this life on Thursday August 9, 2012 in Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born September 23,
1992 to parents Gayle and Norma Varney. She was their precious “Smiley Face” and “Angel”. She was the
light and love of her parents life. She was always smiling and full of joy. She had one dear sister, Elizabeth
Varney Gibson. She was a graduate of Westside High School and was attending Concord University
where she was excelling and majoring in English Literature. She was working with CU professor O’Haynes
on research on her favorite poet, Edgar Allen Poe, for publication. “The Conqueror Worm” was her favorite
poem and she also often quoted “The Raven”. She worked at GameStop in the Mercer Mall. She had
dozens of on-line friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially playing video games with
her favorite nephew Austin and she enjoyed spending time with her caring boyfriend, William Rookstool III.
She loved movies, games, comics and she went to the opening night showing of the new Batman movie on
her last date with Will. She was a band member for three years in middle school and all four years of high
school playing tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, guitar, piano, tuba, and oboe.
Other things that she enjoyed were riding her four-wheeler and taking pictures of everything around her. In
years past she faithfully attended Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus Christ at
VBS. She was a light in the lives of the many people who loved her and she will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents Ballard and Alline Varney; uncles Freddy Sellards,
Bobby Varney, and Randy Varney; aunts Patsy Vint and Lula Belle Varney. Those left to cherish her
memories include her parents Gayle and Norma Varney of Lynco; maternal grandmother Goldie Sellards of
Matheny, WV; a sister Elizabeth “Beth” and her husband Jessie Gibson, Jr. of Lynco, WV; a niece Brittany
Gibson and a nephew Austin Gibson both of Lynco, WV; her boyfriend William Rookstool, III of Bluefield,
VA; uncles Roger Varney, David Varney, Randy Sellards, James Sellards, Charlie (Gina) Sellards, and
William Sellards; aunts Lucille Varney, Beatrice Varney (Bruce) Lamb, Carolyn (Ronnie) Coleman, and

Eddie Franklin “Bert” Tilley, 43, of Glen Daniels, WV passed away on Friday August 10, 2012 at his
home. He was born September 21, 1968 in Beckley, WV a son of Eddie Arnold Tilley of Ravencliff and the
late Ollie Mae Holshouser Tilley. He was a gas well tender. In addition to his mother his grandparents
Mildred Shumate and Dan and Lena Tilley also preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved
daughter Sierra Dawn Tilley, the love of his life, of Hinton, WV; three sisters Kellee (Roger) Player of
Clayton, NC, Kim Marie (David) Dishmon of Ravencliff and Jennifer Boothe of Ravencliff; nieces and
