Sonia “Jackie” Wright Cook, 81, of Cyclone, WV, passed away on Thursday September 6, 2012 in
her current home surrounded by her loving daughter and caregiver Linda Brown, following a long illness.
She was born May 10, 1931 in Mallory, WV a daughter of the late James Wright, Sr. and Josie Peyton.
Jackie was a member of Lacoma Baptist Church and loved the Lord, she loved to sew, crochet, and do
crafts. She loved taking care of her many plants and flowers that she took pride in. She was preceded in
death by her parents, husband Cletus F. Cook, son Dana Keith Cook and a newborn son. Those left to
cherish her memory are her daughter Linda K. Brown and husband Steve of Cyclone; a son Larry Cook
and wife Deborah of Fairdale; grandchildren Shelly (Brown) McHenry and husband Mark of Weston,
Todd Brown and wife Amanda of Cyclone, Rebecca Brown of Cyclone, Amy (Cook) Miller and husband
Joey of Naoma, Patrick Cook and wife Tingle of Beaver Creek, OH , and great grandchildren Zachery
Brown of Cyclone, Hannah McHenry of Weston, Isabella and Addison Miller of Naoma, Wyatt Levi Cook
of Beaver Creek, OH,; a brother James Wright, Jr. of Gilman Bottom; and a host of other nieces,
nephews, family and friends. Jackie will be truly missed by those who were close to her and who she
made a difference in their lives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday September 9, 2012 at
the Stafford Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Merel Walls officiating. Sonia will be laid to rest in
Toler Family cemetery, Cyclone, WV. Friends may call from 12:00PM until service time on Sunday at
the funeral home. Pallbears are her “Special” boys and family. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. Rest in peace G.G.

George Lee Bailey, Sr., 80, of Glen Fork, formerly of Jesse, WV, passed away on Monday September
10, 2012 at Pine Lodge Care and Rehabilitation, Beckley, WV. He was born October 24, 1931 in Jesse,
WV, a son of the late Henry Luther and Laura Allen Bailey. George was a member of the Wyoming
County Veterans Honor Guard and a US Army Veteran, having served in Korea. In addition to his parents
his loving wife Betty Jane Chandler Bailey, a daughter Arlene Wilder, a brother Franklin Bailey and an
infant brother also preceded him in death. Survivors include five daughters Rebecca Pritt of SC, Mary
Catherine Strickland of Oceana, Wanda (Danny) Walker of Kopperston, Darlene Duchaine of MI and
Jennifer (Robert) Reed of Oceana; three sons George Lee (Diana) Bailey, Jr. of Glen Fork, Bud Ray
(Angie) Bailey of Glen Fork and Michael (Missy) Bailey of VA; a sister Dora Vinson of Ravencliff; a
brother Woodrow Bailey of NC; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held
at 1:00 PM on Thursday September 13, 2012 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco,
WV. George will be laid to rest in the Stewart cemetery, Jesse, WV. Friends may call from 11:00 AM
until service time at the funeral home. The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military
rites. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home,
Lynco, WV.

Edward Boyd Cook, 79, of New Richmond, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday September
10, 2012 at Welch Community Hospital, Welch, WV following a long illness. He was born June 16, 1933
in Glen Rogers, WV a son of the late Arnold Alvin and Bessie Brinegar Cook. In addition to his parents
his son Edward Brian Cook; two brothers Kampton Cook, and Alvin Jay Cook; and four sisters Mary
Treadway, Irene Arbaugh, Micki Latich and Ruby Daraban also preceded him in death. He was a
member of Allen Junction Church of God, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the VFW and a retired
carpenter from the UMWA Construction Workers. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years Yvonne
England Cook; two daughters Debra (Randy) Shrader of South Port, NC, and Lori Cook of New
Richmond; a son Dale (Renee) Cook of New Richmond; two granddaughters Lindsey and Michaela;
three grandsons Brad, Cody and Adam; two great granddaughters Jacey and Khloe; and a host of other
loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday September 14, 2012 in the
Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco with Pastor Reba Lockard officiating. Edward will be
laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will
conduct military rites. Friends may gather with the family from 11:00 AM until time of funeral. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Teddy H. Hanshaw, 77, of Brenton, WV passed away on Sunday September 16, 2012 at Welch
Community Hospital. He was born October 30, 1934 in Baileysville, WV, a son of the late Richard and
Elizabeth Toler Hanshaw. He was a retired State Road worker for the Department of Highways. Teddy was
preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. Those who are left to cherish his
memories include his loving wife of 53 years Alice Faye Toler Hanshaw; four sons Rickey (Sherry)
Hanshaw, Sr. of Coal Mountain, Jeffery Lee (Jeanette) of Harriman, TN, William Wyatt (Patti) Hanshaw of
Mullens and Jamie (Kelli) of Oceana; a daughter Rebecca Hanshaw of Pineville; ten grandchildren Rickey
Hanshaw, Jr. (girl friend Jessica), Nicole “Cole Bucket” (Preston) Cumbie, Brittani “Red” Hanshaw, Jayson
Hanshaw, Amber Hanshaw, Christopher (Veronica) Hanshaw, Kody (Kayla) Paynter, Stephen Sammons,
Brooklyn Hanshaw and Hunter Hanshaw; nine step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a nephew
John L. (Gloria) Hanshaw of Skin Fork; and many other nieces, nephews and other loving family and
friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday September 21, 2012 at the Sunhill Freewill
Baptist Church with Pastor Nub Blankenship and Rev. Alan Blankenship officiating. He will be laid to rest
in the Hatfield cemetery, Coal Mountain, WV. Friends may gather with the family after 6:00 PM on
Thursday at the church. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Riley Ernest “Rat” Bryant, 68, of Iaeger-Panther Road passed away on Tuesday September 25, 2012
at the home of Eugene Reed in Hanover, where he resided for the last year after a long illness. He was
born December 18, 1943 in Horse Creek, WV a son of the late Ephe and Velda Steele Bryant. He was
born and raised in Horse Creek and loved to be around family and loved to play with the kids. In addition
to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Edward “Ed” Bryant with whom he made his home
for 35 years, and James Bryant, Robert Bryant, , Cecil Bryant, Hershel Bryant, Andy Bryant, Charlie Bryant
and Jesse Bryant; a sister and brother-in-law Frances and Billy Dillon, Sr.; and a sister-in-law Lona Belle
Bryant. Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his beloved sister-in-law and caretaker Sandra Bryant of
Hanover; three brothers Curtis (Darlene) Bryant of Hanover, and Hansel Bryant of Kendelville, IN, Hartsel
(Barbara) Bryant of Roderfield; a sister Bertha Mae Branham of Kopperston; sister-in laws Loraine,
Agnes, Florence and Elsie; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be held
at noon on Saturday September 29, 2012 in the Jeremiah House of Faith, Hanover, WV with Bro. Steve
May officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Charlie Williams Memorial cemetery, Hanover, WV. Friends
may call for evening singing and fellowship after 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the House
of Gethsemane on the Iaeger – Panther Road and on Friday September 28, 2012 after 5:00 PM in the
Jeremiah House of Faith, Hanover for more fellowship and singing. Family and friends will serve as
pallbearers. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Oceana, WV.

Geraldine Hatfield, 75, of Simon, passed away on Thursday September 27, 2012 at Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born December 14, 1936 in McDowell County, WV, a daughter of the
late Floyd and Nora Smith Kennedy. Geraldine was a member of Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church
and a loving mother and grandmother. She was also preceded in death by her husband Virgil L. Hatfield,
Sr., a son Ernest Hatfield two brothers Charles and Bobby and a sister Jean. She is survived by three
daughters Gail Ball and Carolyn Lester both of Simon and Barbara Blackburn of Cedar Creek; three sons
Russell Hatfield of Nettie, Pat Hatfield of Mt. Airy, NC and Virgil Lee Hatfield, Jr. of Oceana; a brother
Paul Kennedy of Wyco; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild;
and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday October
1, 2012 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Firg Proffitt and Rev.
Lonnie Blankenship officiating. She will be laid to rest in Milty Morgan cemetery, Simon, WV. Friends
may gather with the family from 6 – 9:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve
as pallbearers. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Ronald Lee Cook, 88, of Gloucester, VA formerly of Oceana, passed away on Wednesday September
26, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 5, 1924 in Oceana, WV a son of the late
John Homer and Sadie Elizabeth Cook. He graduated from Oceana High School in May of 1942 and
joined the Marine Corps and rose to the rank of Sergeant, having served Solomon Islands and also the
Treasury Island-Bougainville operations. Following his discharge in 1945 he attended West Virginia
University from 1945-1949 majoring in history. He served as principal at Oceana High School and in 1949
he became supervisor for the Wyoming County Board of Education, a position that he held until 1984.
When the Korean War broke out, he entered the US Army as a company commander and rose to the rank
of Captain and saw action during Pork Chop Hill. Ronald was a member of Bellamy United Methodist
Church in Gloucester and sang in the choir. He was a charter member of the Middle Peninsula Detachment
#1317 of the Marine Corps League. He was also preceded in death by his brother John Willard Cook who
died during W.W. II. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Ann Claypool Cook; his two
daughters Virginia Lynn Ellis and Colleen Morgan; five grandchildren Jennifer Knowles, Jason Knowles,
Devon Rowan, Lauren Rowan, and Josh Rowan; and two great grandchildren, and a host of other loving
family and friends. The family will receive friends at Bellamy United Methodist Church, Goucester, VA
on Tuesday October 2, 2012 from 10-11:30 AM with the funeral services starting at 11:30 AM. Funeral
services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday October 4, 2012 at the Oceana United Methodist
Church, Oceana, WV. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. The Wyoming
County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends may gather with the family from 10:00 AM
until time of service at the church. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home,
Lynco, WV and Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, VA.

Edna Ruth Sparks Repass, better known as “Sue” to family and friends,78, of Oceana, WV passed away
Tuesday October 2, 2012 in the comfort of her home due to a short battle with cancer. She was born
August 19, 1934 in McComas, WV a daughter of the late Joseph Wattie and Hazel Gertrude Sparks. She
was one of fourteen children, three sisters and ten brothers. In addition to her parents she is preceded in
death by her husband Archie Repass; three brothers Elmer Sparks and wife Opal, Donnie Sparks and wife
Sandy, and Carl Sparks; two sisters Evelyn Repass and husband Bill, Mildred Jean Dillo; an infant
daughter Connie Jean; and a very dear and close friend Edith Hopkins. Those left to cherish her memory
are one son Jackie Ray (Phyllis) Repass of Surfside Beach, SC; and one daughter Kay (Billy Gene) Rose
of Oceana; five grandchildren Pamela Jean “PJ” (Ed) Murphy and of Apex, NC, Courtney Repass (Jon)
Martin and of Glen View, Kelly (Kerrina) Rose of Baileysville, Gregory Rose and companion Robin Massey
of Bolt, WV, and Jacqui Rose (Ryan) Hill of Pipestem; eight great grandchildren Mattie and Georgia
Murphy, Joana and James Martin, Hannah and Colton Rose, Nick and Tom Forren, Isaac, Nathan, Caleb,
and Callie Hill; seven brothers Joe (Mary) Sparks of Phoenix, AZ, Bob (Sharon) Sparks of Newborn, TN,
Douglas (Pam) Sparks of Abington, VA, Ricky (Maxine) Sparks of Peterstown, Fred (Francis) Sparks of
Princeton, Stanley (Peggy) Sparks of Beckley, Dean (Annetta) Sparks of Princeton; one sister Janie
Stanger of Bluefield; two brother-in-laws Eugene Dillo of Fayetteville, NC, and Robert Repass of Oceana;
two sister-in-laws Joyce Sparks of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a very special and dear sister-in-law Ann
Santmyer of Oceana; a special niece better known as her second daughter Carol Repass (Gerald) Duncan
and of Kopperston and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors ( three special
neighbors Debbie, Rene and Sharon). Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday October 6,
2012 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Pastor Melissa White officiating.
She will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from
6-9:00 PM Friday October 5, 2012 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to
Hospice of Southern WV or Princeton Community Hospital Hospitality House. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
