Paul Lee Cook, 66, of McGraws, WV, passed away on Friday November 30, 2012 at his home. He was
born August 14, 1946 in Hensley, WV, the son of the late Rev. Loran A. and Elsie Mckenzie Cook. In
addition to his parents two sisters Betty A. Riggs and Emma Jean Hughes, and a brother Benny R. Cook
preceded him in death. He was a loving husband and father and a member of the Pine Grove Baptist
Church for over 20 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years Shirley E. Albright Cook; three
children Loretta (Jonathan) Grantham, Paula Jane (Joe) Day and Donald Lee Cook all of Andalusia, AL;
five sisters Margaret Cregger of Ghent, Vera J. West of Columbus, OH, Lorna (Steve) Dillion of Houston,
TX, Magel (Darrell) Stapelton of Matheny and Shirley (Patrick) Madden of Daniels; four brothers Robert
Cook of Premier, John (Patricia) Cook of Pineville, Jerry (Lola) Cook of Welch and Willard Cook of Mena,
Arkansas; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and a host of other loving friends. Funeral
service will be held at noon on Friday December 7, 2012 in Pine Grove Baptist Church, Ravencliff, WV
with Rev. Dwayne Hurd and Rev. Darrell Stapelton officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Pine Grove
cemetery, Ravencliff, WV. Friends may gather with the family on Thursday December 6, 2012 from 6 -

Betty Bowman, 66, of Ravencliff, WV, went to be with the Lord on Saturday December 1, 2012 at
Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. Betty was born December 21, 1945 in Baltimore, MD a daughter
of Mandy Jane Tilley Allen of Ravencliff, WV and the late Brian Bowman. She was the former cemetery
manager at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. In addition to her father her step father Claude
Preston Allen also preceded her in death, along with a brother Jackie Allen and grandparents Robert
“Bud” and Ila Mae Allen and Manley and Louella Tilley. Betty was a Christian and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her mother Mandy Jane Tilley Allen; three sisters Nancy Allen, Doris Allen and Donna
Allen all of Ravencliff; four brothers Dennis (Susan) Allen of McGraws, Darrell “Jake” (Tammy) Allen of
Glen Fork, Claude Allen, Jr. and Randell Allen both of Ravencliff; and a host of other loving family and
friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday December 5, 2012 in the Chapel of
Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Ernest Francis officiating. She will be laid to rest

Donald Dean Acord, 76, of Daniels, WV passed away on Saturday December 1, 2012 at McDowell

Ronald Donald “Ronnie” Lafferty, 62, of Glen Fork, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday
December 8, 2012 in Gilmer County, WV. He was born January 25, 1950, in Beckley, WV a son of Gladys
Elizabeth Vaught Lafferty and the late Donald Anthony Lafferty. He was a member of the Bellemeade
Missionary Baptist Church and the UMWA. In addition to his father a son Ronnie, Jr. and a daughter
Angela Marie also preceded him in death along with father-in-laws Hiram Acord and Jack Irick. Survivors
include his loving wife Carol Acord Lafferty; mother Gladys Lafferty of Beckley; step mother Margaret
Lafferty of Ravencliff; mother-in-laws Daphine Acord and Vella Irick; a daughter Angie (Chuckie) Simon of
Myrtle Beach; three sons Chris (Kim) Brooks, Allen (Angie) Brooks and Steven Brooks all of Glen Fork;
siblings Joanna (Buddy) Hash, Danny (Polly) Lafferty, Donnie (Rosetta) Lafferty, Geneva (Randy) Worley,
Misty (Shawn) Blankenship and Timmy Bennett; nine grandchildren; special grandson who lived with them

Sarah Mae Haney Smith, 74, of Green Camp, WV, passed away on Monday December 10, 2012 in
Beckley, WV. Sarah was born December 24, 1937 in Welch, WV, a daughter of Alva Mae Houck and the
late Jason Haney. She was a loving mother and a member of the Mullinsville Church of God in Jesus
Name. In addition to her father, her husband Jim Smith, a son Darrell Smith, great grandson Jadon Brown
preceded her in death along with four brothers Bill, Kenneth, Johnny and Dewey, two sisters Ann Akers
and Rosie Smith. Survivors include her mother Alva Houck Haney of Beckley; four sons Mike Smith of
Green Camp, Jimmy (Teresa) Smith of Glen Fork, Joseph (Lisa) Smith of Ghent and Kenneth (Kim) Smith
of Bedford, VA; a daughter Diana (Jackie) Hart of Coal City; two sisters Dorothy Hamilton of Welch and

Juanita Farley Cook, 73, of Holly Hills, formerly of Oceana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday
December 16, 2012 at Raleigh General Hospital. She was born September 17, 1939, in Harts, WV, a
daughter of the late Sherman and Rita Powers Farley. She was a homemaker and member of Maple
Meadows Chapel. Also preceding her in death were a son Jeff Cook, daughter Karen Curley, grandson
Taylor Cook, two brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include her husband of 56 years Eugene Herman
Cook; a daughter Kelli (Chris) Roach of Bassett, VA; two sons James (Anita) Cook and John (Ashley)
Cook all of Oceana; a sister Florence Johnson of Kistler; two brothers Lou (Phyllis) Farley of Brea, KY and
Larry (Betty) Farley of Glen Daniels; seven grandchildren Jerad, John Michael, Sierra, Bryce, Jordan, Haley

Herman Lee West, 69, of Ghent, WV passed away on Thursday December 27, 2012 in Presbyterian
Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born January 18, 1943 in Guyan, WV, a son of the late Clarence Corbet
and Jinnie Adaline West. He was a member of Truth Assembly Ministries and a disabled coal miner. In
addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Those left to cherish him
include his loving wife Lois Elizabeth “Beth” Hatfield West; three sons Leroy (Tammy) West of Fireco,
Frankie (Amy) West of Cove Creek and Jarrod (Brittany) West of Ghent; two daughters Jinnie Thomas of
Soak Creek and Mary (Daniel) Sisk of Beaver; special mother and father-in-law French and Margie

Edith Elzoria Dancy Lusk, 66, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30,
2012 in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born January 15, 1946 in Jesse, WV, a
daughter of the late Roby and Laura Cook Dancy. She was a member of the Lacoma Baptist Church and
a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents her step father Denver Canterbury also
preceded her in death along with seven brothers Jimmy, Ken, Willie, Barney, Edgar, Spurgeon and Lonnie
Dancy and a sister Olie Stanislaw. Edith formerly worked at the Oceana Island Creek Company Store in
many capacities including Assistant Manager of the grocery department. Those left to cherish her
memories include her loving husband of 41 years Lonnie Lewis Lusk; two daughters Rebecca Susan
Moore of Oceana and Sandra (Mackie) Canada of Pineville; two sons Jerry of Pineville and Ricky Lusk of
Ocala, FL; her parents who raised her Dallas and Leo Maynard; five grandchildren Nina Lusk, Sheena

Bower’s Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born November 19, 1949 in Sun Hill, WV the daughter
of the late Hicks and Nella Gray Cline Massey, Jr. She was a member of the Lynco Pentecostal House of
Prayer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Toby Crouse, three brothers
Roy Massey, Lonnie Massey, and Raymond Massey; a son Norman Couse, Jr. and a sister Mary E.
Massey. Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters Tammy (Wiley) Martin of Pineville, Angela
Crouse and companion Guy Belcher of Oceana, and Terry Crouse and companion Chris Scala of
Pineville; three sons Jesse Crouse and companion Leigh Ann Dodson of Kopperston, Curtis (Elizabeth)

James Woodrow Brooks, Jr., 69, of Wharton, WV passed away on January 3, 2013 in CAMC Memorial
Hospital. He was born February 17, 1943 in Valdez, NC a son of the late James Woodrow and Patricia
Brooks, Sr. James worked for the Boone County PSD. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death
by a son James Brooks. Survivors include two daughters Felicia Brooks and husband Hugh Hamilton of
Madison and Donna Kay Stump and husband Robert of Princeton; a son Isaiah Ray Brooks and wife
Melody of Wharton; eight grandchildren Shyanne Brooks, Cruz Walker, Jesse Lusk, Garrett Lusk, Thomas
Lusk, Page Franklin, James Ikie Brooks and Tyler Brooks; one great granddaughter Gracie Lusk; and a
host of other loving family and friends. In keeping with his wishes he was cremated. A Memorial service will
