Betty Ann Keeney Toler, 65, of Clear Fork, WV, passed away on Wednesday October 2, 2013. She was born April 29, 1948 in Cyclone, WV a daughter of Verna May Stevens Keeney of Neola, WV and the late Bill Woodrow Keeney. She was a retired coal miner having worked at US Steel’s Pinnacle Mine. Betty was a 1966 graduate of Oceana High School. Also preceding her in death was a brother Bill Keeney, Jr., grandparents Annie Cook and Johnny Keeney and Sadie and Walter Stevens and a nephew Kim Wells. Survivors include her loving husband of 28 years, Jimmy Darrell Toler; two daughters Verna Renae (Greg) Pennington and Virginia Lynn “Jenny” (James) Belcher; two step-sons Allen Darrell Toler and Mark Edward Toler; four sisters Norma Jean Wells and companion Ed Dunn, Eva (Wilburn) Bailey, Rita (Gene) Harvey, and Judy Lynn (Terry) St. Clair; a brother Joe (Linda) Keeney; five grandchildren D.J., Steven Trevor, Brian Austin, Seth Alexander and Victoria Ann; two great grandchildren Ethen and Madison; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday October 6, 2013 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Toler and Rev. Eddie B. Aliff officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Cook – Keeney cemetery, Cyclone, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family. Velma Sue Bailey McCoy, 68, of Brenton, WV, passed away on Friday October 4, 2013. She was born June 15, 1945 a daughter of the late Elmer Bailey, and Nellie Morgan Mitchell. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Leander McCoy; two brothers Benny Bailey, and Jimmy Bailey; and a sister Carolyn Stacy. Survivors include a son Michael “Mike” McCoy of Brenton; three sisters Sharon Ritter of AZ, Naidene Browning of TX, and Patricia Morgan of SC; three brothers Howard Bailey of Manassas, VA, Ray Bailey of Clifton Forge, VA, and Stanley Mitchell of Indian Creek; and a host of other loving family and friends. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday October 11, 2013 at the Brenton Church of God, Brenton, WV, with Rev. Lee Fischer officiating. In keeping with Velma’s wishes she will be cremated. Johnny Mack Brown, Sr., 59, of Davin, WV, passed away on Friday October 4, 2013. He was born March 17, 1954 in Logan, WV a son of the late Jesse Joseph and Gladys Marie Spears Brown. He was the owner and operator of J & S Leasing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James Ray Brown. Survivors include his loving wife Nancy Ruth Harless Brown; a daughter Sarah Jo Ellen Brown of Davin; a son Johnny Mack (Lori) Brown, Jr. of Baileysville; two sisters Sharon Kay Brown of Davin, and Patricia Gail (Tommy) Payne of Davin; four brothers Jackie Ray (Cindy) Brown of Davin, Jesse Allen (Vicky) Brown of Davin, Randy Lynn Brown of Cyclone, and Carmel Wayne Brown of Davin; three grandchildren Johnny Mack Brown, III, Nathanael Lee Brown, and Madison Rose Marie Brown; mother-in-law Naomi Harless of Davin; brother-in-law Joe Harless of Cyclone and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. Devonia Nina “Button” Bailey, 76, of Glen Fork, WV, passed away on Saturday October 5, 2013. She was born February 9, 1937 in Kayford, WV a daughter of the late Denver and Pauline Bradshaw Norton. She attended the New Hope Church at Indian Creek. In addition to his parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Bailey; a son Frankie Bailey; two sisters Sue Baldwin, and Elenor Anderson; and two brothers Mike Norton, and Chester Norton. Survivors include two sons Timmy D. Bailey of Glen Fork, and Mike (Shelia) Bailey of Glen Fork; two sisters Ann Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Mary Martinez of Goshen, IN; three brothers Charles (Sandy) Norton of Belle, Jim Norton of Belle, and Toger (Sarah) Norton of Goshen, IN; five grandchildren Patrick, Daniel, Ryan, Gabriel, and Brianna; and a host of other loving family and friends. He was born May 17, 1960 in Pinevillle, WV a son of Virginia Helen Chandler Bailey of Lynco and the late Quenton Franklin Delano Bailey. Survivors include two daughters Tiffany Franchesca Bailey and companion Elmo Elmore of Beckley and Danielle LeAnn Bailey of Oceana; a son Jeremy Ryan Bailey of Lynco; three grandchildren Isaac paul Harvey, Skylar Bailey and Bentley who is due to arrive in Feburary 2014; three brothers David Wayne Bailey of Oceana, Jeffery Scott (Meriam) Bailey of Newport News, VA and Raymond Matthew (Julie) Bailey of Ft. Hood, TX; a step-son Matthew Stewart; a step-grandson Gaige Stewart; and a host of other loving family and friends. Barbara Ellen Shrader, 60, of Bluefield, VA, formerly of Coon Branch, passed away on Tuesday October 15, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was born September 19, 1953 in Iaeger, WV a daughter of Daisy Reed Roberts of Bluefield, VA and the late Thomas Harrison Shrader. In addition to her father he was preceded in death by a brother Kenny Shrader. Survivors include her loving mother Daisy Reed Roberts; three sisters Priseilla Shrader of the home, Helen Johnson and husband Thomas of Cedar Bluff, VA and Patricia Shrader of Arlington, VA; two brothers Carl Shrader, Sr. of Iaeger and Kermit Shrader of Rural Retreat, VA; and a host of other loving family and friends. Kenneth Dale Blackburn, 68, of Oceana, WV, passed away on Sunday October 13, 2013 at his home. He was born April 23, 1945 in Kopperston, WV a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Kathleen Justice Blackburn. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Densel Blackburn; and a sister Delores Shrewbury. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 49 years Rebecca M. Sizemore Blackburn; a daughter Teresa Brinkley of Lynco; a son Dale Blackburn of Bassett, VA; one grandson Joshua Dale Blackburn of Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends. Robert Hollis Brooks, 95, of Jesse, WV, died on Friday October 18, 2013. He was born June 28, 1918 in Matheny, WV a son of the late Carroll and Zeta Walker Brooks. He was a member of the Guyandotte Baptist Church. His hobbies included farming and wood working. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carnice “Dollie” Shrewsbury Brooks; a brother Selmer Brooks; two sisters Bertha Philyaw and Oretha Sowards. Hollis was a WW II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corp. He was a 1934 graduate of Oceana High School, attained his B.A. in Education from Concord College and his Masters from West Virginia University. He worked for many years as a teacher, coach and principal for the Wyoming County Board of Education. Survivors include a son Philip (Joli) Bailey of Washington, WV; two daughters Betty Brooks and Glenna Beatty both of Parkersburg; a sister Tensie (Harold) Tracy of Versailles, KY; a brother James G. “Jamie” (Christine) Brooks of Pineville; four grandchildren Patrick (Susanne) Brooks of Charlotte, Gregory Woolwine, Emily Brooks both of Parkersburg and Hannah (Chris) Bretelle of Misawa, Japan; two great grandchildren Will and Caroline Brooks; two very special friends Connie and Kertrina Dancy; many nieces, nephews and a host of other loving family and friends. Margaret Ann Browning, 63, of New Richmond, WV, passed away on Saturday October 12, 2013. She was born November 8, 1949 in McGraws, WV a daughter of the late John Greely and Norsie Ann Brown Short. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Shelby Trump; and a brother Zeke Fortner. Survivors include a son Samuel Browning of Beckley; a step-son Doug Blankenship of Mullens; a sister-in-law Ann Fortner of Ravencliff; two brothers Henry (Novella) Short of Surveyor, WV, and Johnny (Sandra) Fortner of Ravencliff; five grandchildren Gary Tilley, April Tilley, Amy Shumate, Samantha Blankenship, and Annie Blankenship and a host of other loving family and friends. Maudie Louise Pennington, 91, of Martinsville, Virginia, formerly of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Blue Ridge Manor (Assisted Living) of Martinsville. Maudie was born December 29, 1921 at Elk Lick, WV, a daughter of the late George L. and Arminta C. Belcher Morgan. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a founding member of the Oceana First Church of God, and attended the Martinsville First Church of God. She enjoyed painting, helping others and being with her family and friends. She was a charter member of the WCG of the Oceana First Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Clyde (Jim) Pennington; four brothers; Lawrence, Elmer, Charlie and Ula Morgan; six sisters; Ada Walls, Bessie Bailey, Ora Stollings, Blanche Cook, Corba Lester, and Lennie Cook; one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Peyton Childers. Left to cherish her memory are one son, James E. Pennington and his wife Denise of Clinton, TN. and two daughters Carolyn A. Childers and her husband Charles of Axton, VA. and Tammy G. Walker and her husband Robert of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a sister Daisy Brown of Vinton, VA; five grandchildren, James Chad Pennington and wife Mary Robin, Andrea M. Dubois and husband David, Chuck Childers, Jimmy Childers and wife Kim, and Morgan Walker; eight great-grandchildren; Jamison Cole Pennington, Robert Luke Pennington, Chadwick Gage Pennington, David Cade Dubois, Jacob Malcolm Childers, Lydia Morgan Childers, Tamara LaShay Childers, and Jace Dylan Repass, and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Wilma Jean Adams, 78 of Fanrock, went to be with the Lord on Friday October 25, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was cherished and loved by so many, she will be greatly missed. She was born on December 23, 1934 at Indian Creek to the late Herbert and Delcie Short. She retired from Welch Emergency Hospital in 1969. She was a homemaker and a member of Brier Creek Tabernacle Church. She loved quilting, crocheting, Cooking, camping, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Ernest Atwell; twin sons Kenneth and Earnest Atwell; a grandson Joey Rose; brothers Orville Ray Short, and Herbie Short, Jr.; sisters Gloria Ann Short, and Audrey Mae Rose; and a special aunt Sarah St.Clair. Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of 46 years; Robert Lee Adams; daughters Barbara (Jim) Wyrick of Princeton, and Linda (Bo) Rasnake of Fanrock; daughter-in-laws Liz Atwell of Indian Creek, and Jackie Blankenship of Indian Creek; one sister Helen (Ronnie) Stafford of Beaver; two brothers Ronny Short of Matheny, and Roger (Gail) Short of Cleveland, OH; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
