Mr. Charles Wayne “Charlie” Toney, 73, of Oceana, WV passed away on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at his home. He was born January 15, 1940 in Pax, WV, a son of the late Jesse Willard and Kathleen Kidd Toney. Charlie was a retired coal miner with thirty years of service at Harris #1 Mine, a member of UMWA Local 1503. He spent seven years in service to our country in the military, first as a United States Marine and then with the United States Air Force. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Phyllis Barrs Toney; a brother Bill Toney and wife Brenda of Norwalk, OH; two sisters Joan Dixon of Oceana and Kathy Thompson and husband David of Pineville; and a host of other loving family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday December 6, 2013 at the New Life Church, Jesse, WV with Pastor Jay Morgan officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Charlie’s name to Hospice of Southern WV, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472. Richard Allen “Ricky” Couch, 33, of Lynco, WV slipped away on Saturday December 14, 2013 from complications of Salmonella poisoning in Raleigh General Hospital. He was born December 26, 1979 in Beckley, WV, a son of Charlie Allen and Mary Ann Matney Couch. Ricky was a 1999 graduate of Oceana High School and a coal truck driver. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charlie and Sylvia Couch and Aaron and Francis Matney. Ricky was a loving husband, father and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years Julie Ann Lambert Couch; his parents Charlie and Mary Ann Couch of Lynco; two sons Tyler Couch and Garrett Couch both of the home; a sister Kelly Hall and husband Mark of Spartanburg, SC; many special truck driving friends; and a host of other loving family and friends. James K. Bledsoe, 63, of North Spring, WV passed away on Friday December 13, 2013 in Logan Regional Medical Center. He was born February 12, 1950 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Jasper and Ellen Hatfield Bledsoe. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brother’s Melvin Bledsoe, and Kenneth Bledsoe; two sister’s Evelyn Lester, and Mable Lester. He is survived by a daughter Bridgette (James) Bowers of Ragland; a son James A. (Shawanna) Bledsoe of North Spring; two sisters Barbara Lowe of Mt. Airy, NC, and Agnes Perry of Hanover; a brother Douglas (Andrea) Bledsoe of Hanover, WV; four grandchildren Tyler Bledsoe, Conner Bledsoe, Cameron Hatfield, and Paisley Lester; with one grandchild due in June of 2014; and a host of other loving family and friends. Marsha Rae Blankenship, 60, of Beckley, WV passed away on Monday December 16, 2013 in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born March 5, 1953 in Oceana, WV, a daughter of the late Ocel Clinton and Mary Ellen Greene Bowden. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years Raymond Blankenship; a son Nick Blankenship and fiancé Allison Greene; a grandson Alex Blankenship; a sister Sandra Holmes of Lillydale; three great nephews Garrett Blackburn of Lillydale, Matthew Gilley of Texas and Bradley Gilley of Florida; a special friend Mike Craft of Lynco; and a host of other loving family and friends. David Earl Acord, 80, of Jesse, WV passed away on Sunday December 22, 2013 in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born March 13, 1933 in Glen Fork, WV, a son of the late Walter W. and Thelma Adkins Acord. David was a US Navy Veteran and a member of Russell Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Fork. He was the former chief mechanic at Cook Ford Sales in Oceana, shop foreman at Eastern Associated Coal Harris #1, and retired from Patriot Coal. He enjoyed playing his banjo with his sons and friends; and hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Roger Acord; a daughter-in-law Bonnie Marie Acord; and a granddaughter MyLisa Sue Acord Graham. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Dorothy Imogene Gunnoe Acord; five sons Richard Earl Acord of Ravencliff, Tommy Gerald Acord of Bolt, Ronald Durwin (Joetta) Acord of Matewan, Steven Dwayne (Donna) Acord of Fairdale, and Larry (Vickie) Acord of Jesse; a daughter MyLinda Sue (Jeff) Acord of Jesse; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grand children and a button due in July 2014; and a host of other loving family and friends. Michael Dale Wells, 53, of Lillydale, WV went to be with Jesus on Tuesday December 24, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born October 6, 1960 in Man, WV, a son of Norma Jean Keeney Wells of Lynco and the late Rev. Charles Winford Michael was a disabled coal miner and truck driver. He loved his granddaughter Madison more than life itself and always spent as much time with her as he could. His hobbies included playing the guitar, riding his Harley and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at McDonald’s in Oceana. He will be missed by all who loved him. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a brother Kim Dewayne Wells; his poppaw who raised him Bill Keeney, Sr.; a special uncle Bill (Shaw) Keeney, Jr.; a special aunt Betty Ann Toler; a nephew Kelly Wells. Virgil Ray Shepherd, 83, of Clear Fork, WV passed away on Friday December 27, 2013 at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gary, WV. He was born May 13, 1930 in Davy, WV, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Merba Lester Shepherd. Yvette Marie Lester, 48, of Lynco, WV passed away on Sunday December 29, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV following a short battle with cancer. She was born September 26, 1965 in Man, WV a daughter of Calvin Lonnie Vance and the late Ardney Irene Browning Vance. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her husband Freddie Lee Lester, Sr. and a daughter Amber Dawn Lester. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Survivors include her father Calvin Lonnie Vance of Princeton; a daughter Misty Lynn (Eric) Lusk of Oceana; two sons Freddie Lee (Marshella) Lester of Cyclone and Calvin James (Ashley) Lester of Man; two grandchildren Cayden Hagerman and Aaliyah Lester; three sisters Flo (Freddy) Belcher and Dolly Hendricks both of Man, Yvonne Belcher of Oceana; two brothers Steven Vance of Oceana and Johnny (Tina) Vance of Welch Pineville Road; and a host of other loving family and friends. He was born February 23, 1977 in Man, WV, a son of Eddie Charles Carter and Peggy Sue Cox Carter. Doris LaVain “Vannie” Cook, 57, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday January 1, 2014 at Welch Community Hospital, Welch, WV. She was born January 8, 1956 in Pineville, WV, a daughter of the late Edward Doris and Hanner Merl Massey Cook. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Edward Leo Cook. Survivors include her three nieces Hope Walker, Mica Walker, and Krystal Cook all of Oceana; two nephews James Cook, and Josh Walker all of Oceana; a sister Teresa (Mike) Walker of Oceana; two brothers Robert Cook, and Mike Cook all of Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends. Vivian Irene Bellew Morgan, 88, of Fanrock, WV left to meet her heavenly father on Saturday January 4, 2014 from Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, WV. She was born March 24, 1925 in Denton, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Washington and Ethel Mae Elkins Bellew. For many years she lived and worked for RCA Corporation in Cincinnati, OH, she moved to Winston Salem, NC where she worked until retirement for Forsythe Memorial Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James P. Morgan, two sisters and brothers-in-law Leona and Tommy Bailey and Ruby and Morris L. Meadows; a brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Lorene Bellew; a half sister and brother-in-law Eula Mae and Ted Pennington and a grandson Charles “Bubby” Adkins. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC where she also served as secretary for many years. Survivors include a daughter Glenna Evelyn Adkins and her husband “Tink” of Fanrock, WV with whom she lived with for three years until living at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; two granddaughters Regina McNew and husband Melvin of Pinnacle, NC and Tracey Walters and husband Willie of Fanrock, WV; four great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and a host of other loving family and friends.
