Versie J. Bailey Brown, 86, of Cyclone, WV passed away September 11, 2014 in Trinity Nursing Home, Logan, WV. She was born August 4, 1928 in Cyclone, WV, a daughter of the late John Richard and Emma Toler Bailey. Versie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and had spent her life dedicated to caring for her family. She very much enjoyed being a homemaker. She was very much loved and admired by all who knew her and was a long time member of Lacoma Baptist Church of Cyclone. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James K. "Ken" Brown; a son Steven "Steve" Brown: a grandson J.L. Perry; a son -in-law Jack Perry; several brothers and a sister. She will be sadly and greatly missed by all. She is survived by a daughter Charlotte Sue Stewart of Gary; a granddaughter Amee and Drew Young; two great granddaughters Andria and Addison "Addi B" all of Anthem, AZ; a sister Violet Miller; a special friend and sister-in-law Lois and Jack Acord; a special nephew Greg Acord; a special caregiver and nephew Terry Wooten all of Cyclone; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday September 15, 2014 at the Lacoma Baptist Church, Cyclone, WV, with the Rev. Merle Walls Officiating. She will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11:00 AM until time of service on Monday September 15, 2014 at the church. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. A special thanks to the staff of Trinity Nursing Home for the care they gave Versie. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.

Danford Earl Bragg, Sr., 75, of Craney, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday September 11, 2014 in Beckley, WV surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1939 in Oceana, WV son of the late Lloyd and Rita Elkins Bragg. Dan was affectionately known as “Poppy” to all of his family and friends. He has been a lifelong resident of Oceana, except for the years he spent in the military. With four years in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas & Great Falls, Montana and 10 years in the United States Army National Guard. He was an employee of West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division and graduated from the Academy of Heavy Equipment Operators, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Danford was a disabled coal miner & heavy equipment operator for CONSOL Mining and a member of The United Mine Workers of America for 47 years. he was a lifetime member of Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters 1606-1616 (The only member in West Virginia), member of the Society of The Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge (2 Patriot’ s), Charter member National Society Sons of the American Revolution Capt. Ralph Stewart Chapter of Oceana, West Virginia, With 9 Supplemental Patriot’s. (Present Registrar), past Chapter President, Past Member; Greenbrier County, West Virginia Historical and Genealogical Society, Past member; Wyoming County, West Virginia Genealogical Society. He loved to travel and research his family history, lineage and study Old Deeds & Maps, before his Black Lung became so progressed. Dan was a kind and gentle loving man and always wanted to leave folks with a smile he loved his family and believed that you did not show love in words but in deeds and actions. He loved ATV riding, after he was no longer able to walk but a very short distance, he still always felt it was adventurous with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband to his wife of 53 years Sylvia Acord Bragg as they journeyed through the years together, and made so many Wonderful Precious Memories together sharing their lives. He loved to feed the birds and squirrels and was an avid photographer always taking photos of family and friends, NSSAR function’s (His Precious Companion Pet Babie Girl of 6 years) Wild life especially deer, birds, scenery, flowers and his cats. Even known to have an Opossum so chubby it had to go down the steps off the deck sideways, and raccoons he trained to stand still for him to photograph them, animals sensed he wouldn’t hurt them. He was proceeded in death by paternal grandparents Albert Bragg and Lottie Spears Bragg; maternal grandparents Dennie W. Elkins and Corba Stewart Elkins; parents Lloyd E. Bragg and Rita Elkins Bragg; a daughter Angelia Irene Bragg; a sister Patsy Bragg Sexton; a brother James Edward Bragg; a sister-in-law Phyllis Sexton Bragg; a brother-in-law Clarence Evans Slatton, III. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years Sylvia Acord Bragg; three children Debra (Robert) Cagg, of Beech Grove, IN, Danice (Charles ) Watts, of Huntington and Danford (Barbara) Bragg, Jr, of Oceana; his self-proclaimed daughters; Barbara Short Bragg of Oceana and Stephanie Christian Browning of Lynco; four brothers; Acy (Linda) Bragg of Vinton OH, Dennis (Tammy) Bragg of Oceana, Freddie (Sherry) Bragg of Oceana and Jimmy (Kara) Bragg of Kopperston; three sisters Carol Slatton, of Forrest Hills, Judy (Ray) Lowe of High Point, NC and Barbara (Tommy) Crouse, of Kopperston; eight grandchildren; George (Amanda) Wooten Jr. of Lynco, Danford (Bianca) Bragg, III, of Huntington, Cody Bragg Bailey of Holden, Travis (Jennifer) Wooten of Montgomery, Helen (Dwayne) Cannon of Greenwood, IN, Danielle (Derek) Justice of Baisden, Tonya Cagg of Beech Grove, IN, Taylor Ann Bragg of Oceana; seven great-grandchildren Destiny Justice and Dereka Justice, of Baisden, Tatum Bragg & Rome Bragg of Huntington, Miranda Vermillion, Cassandra & Kymia Cannon of Greenwood, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday September 20, 2014 at the Joseph Baptist Church, Lynco, WV with Pastor William Cook officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may gather with the family from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. John Greely McMillion, 74, of Glen Fork, WV, passed away on September 13, 2014 at his home. He was born November 9, 1939 in Glen Fork, WV a son of the late George and Minnie Allen McMillion. He was a retired logger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Rife McMillion, three brothers Elmer P. McMillion, Donald E. McMillion and Emory McMillion, a sister Betty J. McMillion and a brother-in-law Dennie R. Browning. Left to cherish his memory include children William "Bill" McMillion of Glen Fork, Ricky G. McMillion of Bluefield, Patricia Smith, Johnny McMillion and Minnie McMillion all of FL; a special granddaughter Chastie Lynn McMillion, special grandson R.J. McMillion; three siblings Roberta "Sylvia" McMillion Browning, Swillow "Sue" McMillion Belcher and husband Mike and Leroy McMillion and wife Julia; a special Sister-in-law Betty McMillion; a special Friend Paul Brown; several other grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday September 17, 2014 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco with Rev. Sammy Francis and Pastor David Johnson officiating. Helen Grace Osborne, 89, of Cool Ridge, WV, formerly of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2014 in Bower's Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on January 17, 1925 in Pineville, WV, a daughter of the late Dewey and Tina Shaw Wilson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her two husbands Dan Barlow, and Ott Osborne; five children Ruth Ann Barlow Spears, Cora Faye Barlow Shepard, Walter Eugene Barlow, Mary Helen Barlow Lupardus, and James Madison Barlow. Helen worked for Family Health Care for many years, was a member of Eastern Star in Pineville, a member of Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, and the American Baptist Women Association. Survivors include four granddaughters Lisa Barlow, Lori Ann and Chris Pafford, and Gina and Michael Perryman and Beth Lester; four grandsons Daniel Eugene and Leah Spears, Christopher Wayne and Teresa Spears, Jeffrey Eugene and Anitra Barlow and Shannon Michael Barlow; two sisters Gloria Huesman, and Glenna; a brother Doyle and Myrtle Wilson; a daughter-in-law Connie Barlow; 15 great grandchildren Korey, Callie, Casey, Melissa, Heather, Ben, Nikki, Logan, Jacob, Jared, Jourdan, Emily, Laken, Alex, and Marissa; several great great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday September 20, 2014 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Inez Harvey, 91, of Sunhill, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2014 four days before her 92nd birthday, at the Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, WV. She was born September 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Charlie and Artha Belcher. Inez attended the Sunhill County Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years German Victor Harvey; two brothers Hubert and Hobert Belcher; two sisters Gracie Carter and Ocie Mae Belcher. Survivors include two daughters Edra Gay and Darrell Cochran of Blacksburg, VA, and Donna Faye and Gerald Jackson of Pineville; three sons Alfred and Mary Harvey of Clear Fork, Billy Lee and Beatrice Harvey and Steven Victor and Sherry Harvey all of Sunhill; a brother Cebert "Bill" Belcher of NC; five grandchildren Misty Lynn and John Maynor, Adam and Monica Harvey, Michael Shane Harvey, Bryant Wesley Cochran, and Beatrice Leann "Annie" Harvey; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at the Sunhill Country Church, with Pastor Jay Blankenship and Rev. Johnathon Blankenship officiating. She will be laid to rest in German Harvey cemetery, Cedar Creek, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 6-9:00 PM on Tuesday September 23, 2014 at the church. Gerald Lee Beverly, 82, of Indian Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday September 19, 2014 in Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, WV. He was born March 4, 1932 in Pineville, WV, a son of the late Guy and Violet Martha Allen Beverly. Gerald was a United States Army Korean Veteran. He was a member of UAW Local 659, NRA, AARP, a charter member of Harvest Time Tabernacle, and attended the Indian Creek Community Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Violet F. Okoll; a son-in-law Alex G. Okoll; mother-in-law and father-in-law Urchel and Burley Jackson; a brother Connie Beverly; two brothers-in-law Worther England and Sam Dominick; and two sisters-in-law Vida Beverly and Alice Beverly. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Raevena Rosalie Jackson Beverly of Indian Creek; a daughter Angela and Micah Fisk of Vernon, MI; two sons Steven and Becky Beverly of Swartz Creek, MI, and Glenn Beverly of Meguinee, MI; two sisters Joann Dominick of Pineville, and Patty England of Slab Fork; three brothers Roger Beverly of Montgomery, AL, Gary Beverly of Crab Orchard, and Leslie and Edna Beverly of Pineville; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday September 25, 2014 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Bro. Ronald Lester officiating. Frankie A. Short, 83, of Manassas, VA, formerly of Brier Creek, passed away on Friday September 19, 2014 at Westminister of Lake Ridge in Woodbridge, VA. She was born January 24, 1931 in Fanrock, WV, a daughter of the late John and Jenny Christian Altizer. She was a devoted member of Hatcher's Memorial Baptist Church and retired as a first grade school teacher in Prince William County. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Carmel Jerry Short; two sons Timothy Randall Short and Steven Eric Short; a daughter Deidre Lynn Short; and four sisters Helen Lusk, Tiny Whitten, M'ledge Altizer, and Opal Thomas. Survivors include a son John and Audrey Short of Manassas, VA; a grandson Adam Christopher Short of Manassas, VA; a sister Juanita Lusk of Trace Fork; two brothers David and Elsie Altizer of South Williamson, KY, and Douglas and Joan Altizer of Barborursville; a brother-in-law Ralph Whitten of Fanrock, and a host of loving family and friends. Funeral services in Virginia will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Pierce Funeral Home, Manassas, VA with Pastor Todd Pyle officiating. Franklin Dewey Barber, 79, of Lillydale, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday September 26, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 2, 1935 in Clear Fork, WV, a son of the late Hugh Edward and Thelma Lettie Dixon Barber. Franklin worked at Robinson Phillips Coal Mines, and was a member of Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Cubby Barber; a daughter Sandie Barber; two sisters Joesphine Kinser, and Maxine Hughes; and three brothers Bill, Bob and Don Barber. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years Janet Juanita Lester Barber; two daughters Kellie and Todd Cook and Rebecca and Steve Mullens; special friend of the family Wanda Cline; a sister Janice and Jim Browder; two brothers Roger and Gloria Barber, and Darrell Barber; five grandchildren Valerie Clark, Jessica Mullens, Johnathan Barber, Kayla Short, and Jacob Mullens; four great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. Billie Joann Parsons Harless, 79, of Cyclone, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday September 28, 2014 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born November 6, 1934 in Sun Dial, WV, a daughter of the late Earl and Stollie Pettrey Parsons. Joann worked in the gospel music ministry since she was six years old. She and her husband, Oral Harless, raised their children in the way of the gospel and formed the southern gospel group, The Harless Family. Joann was involved in television and radio work for many years where she touched many lives through song. Joann has written numerous songs and has sang in many churches in WV and surrounding states. She never sought credit for herself and she always put the needs of others before her own. Joann's happiness was rooted in her love of God and her family. She looked forward to holidays when the family gathered and sang around the piano. She loved to watch the grandchildren laugh and play together. She especially enjoyed listening to her children and grandchildren sing the songs of Zion. Joann had great appreciation to all the churches and pastors who invited the Harless Family to take part in their services. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Oral M. Harless and a sister Betty Blankenship. Those left to cherish her memory are her children David and Joyce Harless of Cyclone, Danny and Sandra Harless of Bolt, Timmy and Cathy Harless of Cyclone, and Ruta and Earl Prichard, Jr. of Bolt; grandchildren Aaron and Crystal Harless of Bolt, Tara Harless Toler of Oceana, Caleb and Melissa Prichard of Bolt, Jared and Sara Harless of Oceana, Brent and Kristy Prichard of Otsego, WV, and Andrew Damron of Cyclone; great grandchildren McKenzie and Brayden Harless, Karsey, Natalee, and Mylee Prichard, Brooklynn and Jacob Toler, and Chloe and Jenna Harless; a brother James E. and June Parsons of Macedonia, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dorothy Louise "Sparkey" Branham Stevens, 63, of Fairdale, WV, went home to be the with her Heavenly Father on Sunday September 28, 2014 after a long illness, in Bower's Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born March 8, 1951 in Kopperston, WV, a daughter of the late Arnold and Bertha Robinette Branham. Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Bolt Church of God and former member of Oceana Church of God. She worked for Raleigh General Hospital as an LPN, enjoyed sewing and crafts, and loved caring for her family and friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Gale Stevens and her in-laws Oscar and Ruth Stevens. Survivors include her daughter Sonia Gale Stevens of China Grove, NC; a granddaughter Sydney Gale Stevens of Athens; a brother William Branham of Austin, PA; sister-in-laws Norma Russell of Evarts, KY, Midge Goff of Daniels, Debbie and Chuck Shirley of Oceana, Sandy Stevens of Vandelia, OH and Patricia Stevens of Charles Town; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday October 1, 2014 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. Sparkey will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
