James Lloyd "Jim" Blackburn, 65, of Oceana, WV, passed away Saturday July 19, 2008 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born December 6, 1942 in Kopperston, WV a son of the late Lloyd and Nona Bailey Blackburn.
James was a retired coal miner having worked for Eastern Associated Coal and Peabody Coal Companies for 30 years. Jim served three years in the U.S. Army with 13 months served in Vietnam, receiving two bronze stars, good conduct and expert rifleman medals along with several other honors. He served eight years on the Oceana City Council was a member and Commander of VFW Post 8364, member of DAV Wyoming-McDowell Chapter 56 and Commander of the Wyoming County Honor Guard. Along with his parents, his father-in-law Harold C. Durbin also preceded him in death. James was of the Baptist faith and attended the Oceana First Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife and best friend Linda Durbin Blackburn; a son Brian Blackburn and wife Melissa of Ravencliff; two daughters Karen Blackburn of Cool Ridge and Kathy Jo Cook and husband Chris of Oceana. Jim was "PaPa" to five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Maddie and Casey Cook, Darian, Carleigh and Gillian Blackburn. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Kathleen Durbin of Oceana; two sisters Betty Martin and husband Jerry of Crouches Farm and Rhennetta Bennett and husband Dennis of Clendenin; brother-in-law Bill Durbin of Ripley; four nieces, two nephews and his little pomeranian dog "LuLu". He will also be remembered by best friends Tom Evans, Jeff Laxton, Jesse Womack, Steve Stone and his Vietnam buddy Richard Harwood of TN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday July 23, 2008 at the Oceana First Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Cook officiating. Kim Dewayne Wells, 46, of Clear Fork, WV passed away Sunday July 13, 2008 at the Beckley VA Medical Center. He was born February 26, 1962 in Man, West Virginia a son of Norma Jean Keeney Wells and the late Charles Winford Wells. Kim was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandson, who enjoyed playing the guitar, riding his four-wheeler and listening to music. Kim once said the desire of his heart was to play a song that would please God. Today, he is with his Heavenly Father fulfilling his wish. He was a auto body mechanic, coal truck driver, a US Army Veteran having served in the Persian Gulf and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Wyoming-McDowell Chapter 56. Those left behind to love and cherish his memory are his wife of four years, Melissa R. Conley-Wells; his mother Norma Jean Wells and her companion James "Ed" Dunn of Clear Fork, WV; four sons Kim D. Tina Marie (Green) Dye, 41 of Oceana, formerly of Phenix City, AL since 1993. passed away July 7th, 2008 at home after losing a battle with cancer. Born July 27, 1966 at Mullens, WV. She was the daughter of Patty Green and the late Tex Cline and the stepdaughter of Randall Green. Ms. Dye's passion was doll collecting and spending time with her two poodles. She was preceded in death by her father Tex Cline , paternal grandparents Robert and Marie Craft, ex husband Kenneth (Rick) Green and cousin David Lee Jordan. Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter Alisha Marie Green, her sons Kenneth Green and Brooke Marshall of Phenix City , Al. Emanuel Lee (Green) Jordan and fiancee' Autumn Toler and Ricky Green. Larry E. Lester, 60, of Shady Spring, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 1, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Larry's last word to his family was "Victory", letting us know that he has received his Victory through the power of the Lord. He was born October 10, 1947 at North Springs, WV. Larry served in the United States Army from 1968 - 1970, was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed his family and friends. Larry also had a great passion for fishing and was a talented wood worker. He greatly enjoyed listening to his sons, Jamie and Travis, singing and playing the guitar and mandolin. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Magnolia Lester and a sister Marie Lipe. Larry is survived by his father Perry E. Lester and wife Margaret of Beckley; his loving wife of thirty years Deborah, with whom he truly found the love of his life and his best friend; his sons Jamie Darrel Lester and wife Michelle of Morgantown and Travis Perry Lester and wife Melony of Crab Orchard; his grandchildren Hannah, Everett, Sophia and Lydia and a grandchild who will be born in December, he also had a special adopted granddaughter Taylor Stewart, all his grandchildren lovingly referred to him as "Poppy", and they all know that "Poppy" will be watching over them from the beautiful shores of heaven; a brother John and his wife Martha and a sister Samantha Kleinfelder and husband Bill all of Titusville, FL, sisters Lucy Cooper and husband Joe and Sharon Atwell and husband David all of Beckley, a sister Tabitha Maxey and friend Alvin West of Kopperston, a sister Dare Cline and husband Tony of Lexington, NC, a step brother Guy Bailey and wife Shelly of Chicago, IL. Kimberly Lou "Kim" Hargis Bartram, 35, of Kopperston, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 2, 2008 surrounded by her loving family at her home following a long illness. Kim was born March 21, 1973 in Logan, WV a daughter of the late Robert and Violet R. Pack Hargis. She was a loving wife and mother and a member of Big Spring Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Bible Baptist Church. Her sister Louise Brugess, father-in-law Virgil Lee Bartram, Sr. and step-father Golden Collins also preceded her in death.

Brenda Joyce "Susie" Aliff, 66, of Fanrock, WV went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday June 16, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 29, 1941 at Fanrock, WV a daughter of the late Glen and Leola Lusk Williams. Susie was a homemaker as well as a disabled coal miner from US Steel. She was a member of the Briar Creek Tabernacle Church and of the UMWA, Local 1713. Susie enjoyed painting, crocheting, camping and most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sami Lambert of Ohio; her in-laws Ulbert and June Aliff; a special Aunt Rhada Marrs; and a special cousin and friend Faye Adams. Mary Elizabeth "Bay" Stafford, 84, of Pax, WV, formerly of Oceana, went to heaven to be with her husband Bill on Wednesday May 21, 2008 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born March 6, 1924 in Wyoming County, WV, a daughter of the late Robert and Jennie Cook Womack. Mary was a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church for about 49 years and had attended the Maynard Freewill Baptist Church the last 10 years. Bay was a homemaker who loved her children, grandchildren and pets with all her heart. She and her husband Bill loved going to church and talking about the goodness of God. Her loving husband William Edward "Bill" Stafford and her son-in-law Dale Elswick also preceded her in death along with a sister Ruth Ratliff and two brothers Roy Bill and Woodrow Womack. Raymond Miller, 74, of Oceana, WV lost the battle with cancer, but received his wings on Monday May 12, 2008 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born January 19, 1934 in Cyclone, WV, a son of the late Cleophas and Dollie Maynor Miller. Raymond was a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church and a foreman for 30 plus years at Eastern Associated Coal Company's Kopperston Mine. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Elsie Smith, Garnet Miller and Ruby Miller; six brothers Nathan, Maxwell, Troy, Estel, Junior and Arbry Miller, Raymond was the last survivor of his immediate family. Survivors include his loving daughter Sherry Bailey and husband Gene of Sunhill, WV and a loving son Ray Miller with whom he made his home; a grandson Eugene Bailey and wife Miranda and a very special great granddaughter Jaiden Bailey; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends. She was born November 11, 1923 a daughter of the late Scott and Viola Belcher Bishop. She was a homemaker, loving mother and the widow of Raymond Cline.
