True to his promises, Our Lord Jesus rewarded Grant T. Jones, with 90 years of life to share with his loved ones here on earth. Jesus called him to his heavenly home on Monday, March 30, 2015, with his beloved wife and his son, Johnny, by his side. He eased out into Glory after a lifetime of loving and being loved. He was born in McDowell County at Lex, WV, on August 16, 1924, Grant was the son of the late Preacher Bill and Laura Short Jones. He was a devoted son and brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved the out-of-doors, hunting, fishing, hiking and just sitting and daydreaming in any green pasture that offered some good groundhog hunting. He was never too busy to listen to his small children's most silly stories, and he made you believe that you were just the smartest, most important person in the world. He taught us that we had better never start a fight, but we'd better never run from one; that we could do or be anything we wanted to do or be, if The Lord willed it, and if he didn't then we hadn't needed it in the first place; that when saying the name "God", we'd better be talking to him or about him, and not saying it in slang; and that the word "liar" was never to be used, let alone toward a family member, but rather the term "bare-face fuzzy" would suffice. He was, also, a mentor to many other young folks in the Oceana area that simply needed someone to love them. He served in the United Sates Navy, and never lost his love of, nor devotion to, the Navy and his beloved America. He watched every NASA Rocket launch from the time they were telecast, prayed for the crew and mission, and would clap his hands with glee at their success. His patriotism was worn with pride. Grant provided for his family by working from 1947 to 1982 at the Kopperston mines, by raising huge gardens yearly, keeping a cow or two, an occasional pig, and way too many chickens. He presented us with pet groundhogs, goats raccoons, all the kittens and puppies we wanted, and the occasional little rabbit or snake brought home in his dinner bucket for us to see before freeing them. He was just not a Father- he was a Daddy and Friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his first wife, Ola Adair Jones in 1960, and his brothers Lee and John and sisters Belle, Brooks, Alice, Abbey, Pansy and Mary. He was the last surviving sibling. Left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife of 53 1/2 years Polly Morgan Jones, daughters Pat (John) Toler of Lewisburg and Janie (Jesse) Harvey of Bolt; and sons Bill (Debbie), Steve (Cathy) and Dave (Tangela) all of Lewisburg; Johnny (Kathy) of Oceana, and Rusty (Michelle) of Lebanon, VA as well as his grandson David R. Jones of Bolt, whom he adopted and raised. Also like a son to him was his devoted nephew Kelly Sparks of Oceana; eighteen grandchildren, and thirty great grandchildren will carry on his legacy. Burial will be held at noon on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV, a procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 AM to travel to the cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and loved one are invited to visit with his family from 6-9:00 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. "Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days be long upon this earth".
