Charlie Eugene Acord, 85, of Glen Fork, WV passed on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Raleigh General Hospital after a short illness. He was born December 15, 1930 in Glen Fork, WV, a son of the late Walter and Thelma Adkins Acord. He was a faithful Christian, having served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. He was a retired Senior Master Sgt. with 30 years in the US Air Force and he retired from Harris Mine after 13 years. In addition to his parents three brothers preceded him in death Robert Harold, David Earl and Roger C. Acord. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gwendolyn Sue Acord; two step sons Brandon Baldwin and (fiancé` Kelly Thorton) of Jesse and Michael (Tammie) Tolliver of Biloxi, MS; a sister Mable "Pat" Lambert and her son Chip Lambert of Glen Fork; a brother Dale (Mary) Acord of Glen Fork; and a host of other loving family and friends. Pauline Turpin, 84, of Trace Fork, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and her loving husband James Allan Turpin, Jr. of 67 years on April 6, 2016. She was born on March 17, 1932 in McDowell County a daughter of the late Hobert and Virginia Kenny. Pauline was a member of the Briar Creek Tabernacle. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a daughter Francis Cornwell; a son-in-law Giles Cornwell; a sister Margaret Hosko; three grandchildren Tonya Turpin, Lisa Turpin and Ronald Hatfield, Jr.; and two great grandchildren Drema Walls and Jacob Fritz. Virginia Belle Tilley, 90, of Mullens, WV passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at her home. Where she was lovingly cared for by her grandson Alan Neely. Born June 18, 1925 in Jumping Branch, WV, a daughter of the late Glen and Edna Cole Cochran. Virginia was a homemaker, owner of Virginia's Fabric and was a member of Corinne First Church of God. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Graham Tilley; a sister Glenna Lemons and husband Connie; a brother Buel "Boone" Cochran and Wife Beulah "Boots"; great granddaughters Carson Elizabeth Patton and Mackenzie Erin Cardwell; and a daughter-in-law JoAnn Tilley Menefee. Virginia loved spending time with her family, talking on the phone, working in her flower garden, crafts, painting, playing playdoh and coloring with her grandchildren. Albert James Lusk, 66, of Matheny, WV passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 15, 1950 in Mullens, WV, a son of the late Robert and Mary Belle Mullens Lusk. He was a member of the UMWA. Johnny Mack Toler, 69, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at CMC Carolina Medical, Concord, NC. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Cyclone, WV a son of the late Homer G. "Jud" and Margaret McComas Toler. John was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He then worked for many years for McJunkin Corporation in both Charleston and Marietta, OH. John retired and worked in construction so he would not be bored. He had two favorite things to do fish and watch football. He moved to Charlotte, NC when his first grandchild was born and loved being called papaw John by all five of his grandkids Madison Ann, Mason James, Tatum Jolee, Carly Rae and Faith Marie. John was a 1964 graduate of Oceana High School, attended Beckley College and a member of Lacoma Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons James P. (Missy) Toler of Charlotte, NC, John C. (Lynette) Toler of Charleston, SC and Matthew A. (Shawnacy) Toler of Lancaster, OH; a daughter Amanda J. Toler of Ashland, KY; a brother Homer G. (Becky) Toler of South Charleston; three sisters Connie Long of St. Albans, Margie J. Toler of Sutton and Dolly J. Toler; a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends. Charles Raymond "Charlie" Blessard, 69, of Fairmont, WV formerly of Oceana, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 25, 1946 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Bob and Edna Speaks. Charlie proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a chaplain’s assistant and a helicopter gunner. He was a member of Wyoming-McDowell DAV Chapter 56, VFW and the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. He worked as a coal miner and owned a Barber shop serving the Oceana community for nearly 30 years. He had a love for most any sport and enjoyed playing softball in his younger days. In his later years he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife Nancy and seeing the sites. He was survived by his spouse Nancy Ramsey-Blessard; two daughters Shae (Fred) Morales, and Martha "Marty" (Shawn) Beverly; son Charles Robert "Bobby" Blessard; step-children Charlie (spouse Valerie), Shane and Cindy Davis; Eleven grandchildren, Kara, Jessica, Tiffany, Brittney, Nikki, Lezlie, Shane, Whitney, Austin, Lydia and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Pamela Brogan and Karen Speaks. Funeral service will be held at 7:00PM on Monday April 18, 2016 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Lester officiating. On Sunday morning, April 17, 2016, Elmer Goodman, 66, departed this life at Raleigh General Hospital. Born on September 22, 1949, he was the son of the late Mike and Elsie Goodman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his 16 year old baby girl Megan; brothers James, Ralph and Benny; and mother-in-law Babe Toler. A retired coal miner and barber, Elmer had served on the Oceana City Council and served his country in Vietnam. With a great fondness of gardening and fishing; and making new friends when he sold apples, Elmer enjoyed watching the WV Mountaineer games. Left to cherish 27 years of everlasting and precious memories shared with Elmer is his loving wife Rita Toler Goodman, who was his constant and devoted companion. Also survived by daughter Ashley Shannon Goodman and grandchildren Harlow Osborne and Ledger Bailey; three biological children Larry Goodman, Michael and Altar Sheppard; brother Johnny (wife Rita); two sisters Mary Bishop Acord (Husband Bob) and Betsy Bailey; father-in-law Ray Toler; two brothers-in-law Rayvon Toler (Wife Betty) and Stacy Toler; several nephews and nieces; his little buddy Cameron Morgan; and so many friends made over the years. Hazel Hawks, 84, of Pineville, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was born on October 3, 1931 in Brenton, WV a daughter of the late Curtis Henry and Bertie Vay "Babe" Dameron Hawks. Hazel was a member of the Pineville Church of God. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a great niece Kayla Nicole Hawks. Hazel never met a stranger and loved everyone.
