Albert S. Hathy
ASHTABULA - Albert S. Hathy, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Bon Secours-Venice Hospital. Born April 12, 1923 in Ashtabula, he was the son of Eugene and Mary (Warga) Hathy.
Mr. Hathy was a 1941 graduate of Edgewood High School. He served with the 247th Army Air Force During World War II, was a Master Mason of Rising Sun Lodge of Ohio and a member of the Second Congregational Church of Ashtabula. He retired in 1982 from Reliance Electric Company in Ashtabula, where he was supervisor of inspection.
He enjoyed sports, cards, electronics and computers.
Survivors include his wife, Beth and daughter, Janice of Venice, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Esterhay Storch of Madison; and a brother, Eugene of Ashtabula.
He had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life, wintering in Venice, Fla. for the past 20 years.
A memorial service will be on a later date in Ohio.

Thomas R. Forthman Jr.
SAEGERTOWN, PA - Thomas R. Forthman, Jr., 45, of Craig Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at the Meadville Medical Center in Meadville, Pa. He was born Oct. 25, 1957 in Ashtabula, the son of Ruth (Trask) and Thomas R. Forthman, Sr.
Mr. Forthman was a 1976 graduate of Conn. Lake High School. He enjoyed music, electronics, helping less fortunate people and was a D.J. for the Beverly Home.
He worked at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. as a custodian for 15 years.
Mr. Forthman previously lived in Hartstown, Pa.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather Ruth and William Burkley of Hartstown, Pa., a sister, Johanna Piate of Cincinnati; three stepsisters, Donna Buckley of Meadville, Pa, Terry Cowan of Saegertown, Pa. and Sandy Palmer of Conn. Lake, Pa.; and a stepbrother, Randy Buckley of Harmonsburg, Pa.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday, at the Randall Funeral Home, 416 Liberty St., Jamestown, Pa., with the Rev. King from Hartstown, Pa., officiating. Calling hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery in Adamsville, Pa.
Hannah Quinn Palo
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Hannah Quinn Palo, 68, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at her home. Born June 27, 1934 in Conneaut, daughter of George and Veronica (Cantlin) Dusenbury.
She married Maurice "Skip" Palo Aug. 10, 1957. A devoted mother and grandmother, she gave an abundance of love and kindness to others.
Mrs. Palo also lived in Hudson, Ohio, Kansas City, Mo. and Denver, Colo.
She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1952 and from St. Mary's College in South Bend, Ind. in 1956.
She was past president of the Women's Council in California at St. Kilians Church.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Catherine Peterson of San Clemente, Calif.; a son, Micheal Palo of Mission Viejo, Calif. and seven grandchildren.
Service is Wednesday, at St. Kilian's Church in Mission Viejo, Cali. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest, Calif.
Casimir S. Archacki
NILES - Casimir S. "Casey" Archacki, 89, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Autumn Hills Care Center, Niles.
He was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Cleveland, to Ignatius and Sophia (Hojnizka) Archacki.
Mr. Archacki was a Niles-area resident since 1994, coming from Cleveland. He was a resident at the Manor of Autumn Hills since 1998.
He was a machinist for the J.W. Harwood Company in Cleveland for more than 23 years, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include daughter Betty J. Losh of Gustavus; son Bill J. Archacki of New City, N.Y.; sisters Clara Hosko of Parma, Agnes Putz of Parma and Theresa Herczog of Mentor; brothers Aloysius Archacki of Cleveland, and Chester Archacki of Cleveland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Loretta (Schnell) and second wife Margaret (Gubanc); and brothers John, Eugene, Alex, Joseph, Zigmund and George Archacki.
Chapel mausoleum service for the burial of cremated remains will be 11 a.m. Friday at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
There will be no calling hours.

ORWELL - H. Diane Carlson, 52, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at her home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 23, 1950, in Columbia, S.C., to Joseph and Lila (Rath) Crider. She married Ray Carlson Nov. 5, 1976 in Jefferson.
Mrs. Carlson was a machine operator at Kennametal, Inc. in Orwell.
She attended Orwell Presbyterian Church and enjoyed collecting owls, painting, bluegrass music and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; children Barbara Squibbs of Orwell, Shane Gregory of Orwell, Kevin Carlson of Talahoma, Tenn. and Christine Sterling of St. Albans, Vt.; brothers Floyd Crider of Churchill, Va., Hayword Crider of Greensburg, S.C., Bobby Joe Crider of Columbia, S.C., Curtis Crider of Bowe, Md. and Coy Crider from Valdesta, Ga.; and grandchildren Jason Headley, Brittany and Hanna Gregory, Johnathan and Kortney Squibbs, Abby and Olivia Carlson and Makenzie and Connor Sterling.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, officiated by the Revs. George Dauler of Chardon and Sandy Seaton-Todd of Orwell Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy Dolak
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - Dorothy Dolak, 79, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Heather Hill Nursing Home in Munson Township.
She was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Cleveland, to Joseph and Bertha Kvasne. She lived in Euclid before moving to Hambden Township in 1958.
Mrs. Dolak was a full-time wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, going to auctions, refinishing antiques and touring glass factories.
Survivors include daughter Cynthia Wisniewski of Hambden Township; son Ronald Dolak of Deland, Fla.; grandchildren Martin Wisniewski of Hambden Township, Robin Wisniewski of Windsor Township, Jeni Fielder of Huntsburg Township, Jeffery Dolak of Lake Placid, Fla. and Eric "Rick" Dolak of Ocean Ridge, Fla.; two great-grandchildren; and brother Tom Kvasne of Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Dolak in 1996, her parents, sisters Bertha Riggs and Jean Kvasne, and brother Bob Kvasne.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP - Patricia Gibbs, 26, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003.
She was born March 3, 1976, in Warren, to Greg and Debbie (Boyles) Gibbs. She was a lifelong area resident.
Ms. Gibbs graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1994. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Denison University in 1998.
She was a former restaurant manager in Chicago, Ill. and loved to travel.
Survivors include her parents, sister Sara Gibbs of Bloomfield, paternal grandmother Mildred Gibbs of North Kingsville and maternal grandmother Pluma Boyles of Bristolville.
She was preceded in death by her sister Melanie, paternal grandfather Charles Gibbs and maternal grandfather John Boyles.

KINGSVILLE - Sara J. Howe, 75, of South Ridge Road East, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at her home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1927, in North Kingsville, to John and Sarah (Warner) Neal. She was a lifetime area resident.
Mrs. Howe was a 1945 graduate of Kingsville High, where she was valedictorian. She married Richard Howe Feb. 21, 1948.
She worked at Premix in North Kingsville until her retirement.
Mrs. Howe was a member of Kingsville Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Kingsville Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed collecting, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her husband; son Ronald R. Howe of Bellvue, Neb.; daughters Penny Allen of Kingsville, Karolyn Howe of Euclid, and Rebecca Pelyhes of Geneva; grandchildren Kelli, Kristopher, Kasey, Erik, Amee, Jennifer and Richard; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Richard, Robert and Kenneth Neal.

MAYNARD, Iowa - Sherry Leonard Kane, 40, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 12, 1962, in Ashtabula, to Glenn and Kathleen (Jeffers) Leonard. She married Carl Kane in Maynard, Iowa March 28, 1997.
Mrs. Kane was a member of the Victory Christian Church in West Union, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband; sons Joseph Kane of Maynard, Iowa and James Hudson of Tucson, Ariz.; mother Kathleen Blair of Ashtabula; brothers Major John G. Leonard of Sumter, S.C., Kevin Leonard of Cookeville, Tenn., Jerry Blair of Ashtabula and Edward Blair of West Royal Palm, Fla.; and sister Christine Leonard Funk of Maynard, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by fathers Glenn Leonard and Lee H. Blair and grandparents Elmer and Zella Jeffers.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard, Iowa, officiated by the Revs. Ervin D. Hesterberg and Rolland Waterman. Inurnment is at Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Iowa, at a later date.

Pauline M. Sajevic
JEFFERSON - Pauline M. Sajevic, 91, of West Satin Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in the Hospice unit at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born April 2, 1911, in Euclid, the daughter of Vincent and Anna (Terbanc) Peskar, and move to Jefferson from Euclid in 1972.
She worked as a seamstress for many years at the Richmond Brothers clothing store.
She married Alphonse J. Sajevic on July 1, 1933, at St. Christine Church in Euclid.
She was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, the Euclid Progressive Slovenian Women and St. Cyril Methodius Lodge 191 in Euclid and was formerly active at the Recher Hall Slovenian Home in Euclid, the Jefferson Senior Center and the Jefferson Golden Agers.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Ann Boyle of Ashtabula, and Jacquelyn Heath of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Molly Primozic of Mentor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1989; a son, Alan George Sage, in 1984; a brother, Vincent Peskar; and three sisters, Julia Strancar, Anna Zimperman and Mary Lavrencic.
A memorial Mass will take place 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. Stephen Wassie will officiate. Cremation occurred at the Care Group Cremation Center.
No calling hours will be observed.

Avery VanTassel
ORWELL - Avery "Dale" VanTassel, 74, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Shands at University of Florida in Gainesville.
He was born in Knoxville, Tenn. He and his wife, Jean VanTassel, spent winters in Chiefland, Fla.
Mr. VanTassel served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, retiring after 29 years.
He was a former citizen of the year in Orwell, and served as a township trustee from 1972 to 1990. He was president of the Ashtabula County Trustees and Clerks Association in 1977 and 1978.
Mr. VanTassel was also a member of the Brown Masonic Lodge 51 in Chiefland, Fla., and the Hartsgrove Lodge 397 in Hartsgrove. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 719 in Orwell and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943 in Ashtabula and a member of American Legion Posts 40, 8 and 203 in Ashtabula County.
He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and received a Scouter's Key Award.
Mr. VanTassel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Orwell for more than 60 years.
Survivors include his wife; daughter Tracey VanTassel of Youngstown; and sisters Joyce Page of Pinellas Park, Fla. and Janice Frazier of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

FARMDALE - Mildred A. Waters, 94, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Oaks of Avon in Avon Park. Fla.
Born June 8, 1908, in West Newton, Pa., she was the daughter of Guy F. and Jane (Warburton) Allen. She was a graduate of West Newton High School and Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa.
After working at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital in Warren, she finished her career at various nursing homes and doing private duty nursing.
She married Floyd R. Waters on July 11, 1935 and belonged to the Kinsman United Methodist Church. She was active in the Kinsman Nutrition Site, Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Golden Aires and the Kinsman B.P.W.
While in Florida, her activities included A.A.R.P., the Sun Room, Avon Park Winter Guest Club, while attending the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
Survivors include her two daughters, Crystal Elaine Miller of Avon Park, Fla. and Floye Myers of Kinsman; grandchildren, Lori Woodford of Westland, Mich., Amy Sue McCreight of Delaware, Gunnery Sgt. Mark Myers of Newport, N.C., Kellie Shannon, Esq., of Philadelphia, Pa. and Michael Shannon, Webmaster, of Philadelphia; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Woodford and Carson Myers.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband in 1990; infant son, Peter Guy Waters; a brother, Robert Allen; a sister, Melva Stevenson; and a niece, Viva Jane Novak. Charles D. Williams
HARLINGEN, Texas - Charles D. Williams, 84, formerly of Conneaut, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Valley Baptist Memorial Hospital in Texas. He was born Sept. 3, 1918 in Conneaut, the son of Joseph and Mary Williams. Mr. Williams was a graduate of Conneaut High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and held the rank of sergeant and was in the military police.
Mr. Williams lived in Matteson, Ill., for years where he worked as a self-employed painter, decorator and contractor.
In recent years he spent his summers in Conneaut with his wife, Madeline. Mr. Williams enjoyed playing golf and watching sports and working in his yard.
Survivors include his wife, whom he had been married for 60 years; three sisters, Sue Vandetti of Dunkirk, N.Y., Lucy Hultgren of Erie, Pa. and Katherine Ille of Conneaut; and a brother, Paul of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Tony, John, Rocco, James and Nick Williams. Cremation took place in Harlingen, Texas. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Conneaut.

Crist E. Slabaugh
TROY TOWNSHIP - Crist E. Slabaugh, 78, of Patch Road, died Friday afternoon, April 4, 2003, at his home.
He was born Nov.18, 1924, in Parkman Township, the son of Enos and Sarah (Miller) Slabaugh, and had been a lifelong area resident.
A farmer and harness maker, he married Amanda Miller on Dec. 2, 1947, in Middlefield. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church.
Survivors include his wife; eight daughters; seven sons; two sisters, Martha Yoder of Parkman and Melinda Miller of Wisconsin; 96 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; one sister; and two grandchildren.
Service is 10 a.m. Monday at his home. Bishop Roy Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Hershberger Cemetery in Troy Township. Friends may call anytime at the residence.

Willie Floyd
GENEVA - Willie Floyd, 70, of Geneva, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his home.
He was born on August 15, 1932 to Callie Bryant and Major B. Floyd, in Clayton, AL, moving to Ohio at the age of 6.
Mr. Floyd worked in construction, owning or driving tractor trailers.
In 1973, he slipped at work injuring his back, which ended up totally disabling him from substantial work. In 1987, he was hit with a train and survived the ordeal after living in a coma for a short while. He spent the remainder of his life suffering daily pain.
Willie leaves behind Bonnie whom he married in 1968. This union gave him two children, Christopher of Geneva, and Barbara of Ashtabula.
He leaves behind this other children, Margie Floyd Mixon, and Elaine Floyd of Milwaukee, WI, Alisha, and Willie Junior of Baltimore, MD, Gerald of Texas, and Anthony of New York City, NY.
He also leaves behind seven brothers: Lang Floyd of Clopton, AL, James, and Roy of Atlanta, GA, Freddy, Frank, Johnny, and George of Detroit, MI; and ten sisters, Oralee Ware of Youngstown, Alberta Tellis, and Willie Leena Thomas, both of Montgomery, AL, Ann Daniels, Maggie Gochett, Lilly Cliatt, Inez Lewis, and Inester Jones, all living in or around Atlanta, GA, Mary Scott of Piscataway, NJ, and Minnie Bell of Bartow, FL; and a host of family and friends.
His Mother, Father, one son Wendell Ray, and brothers Ike, Adam, David, and Samuel preceded him in death.
Willie was baptized into our Lord Jesus Christ in 1979, while attending Maple Grove Church of Christ. Although through the years his attendance dwindled, he lived the life of a Christian, lending a helping hand to anyone who needed, opening his home on numerous occasions to those who needed shelter to get on their feet, and hosting bible study classes in the evenings in his living room. He seldom raised his voice, accepted people for who they are, and was honest to a fault.
He drove a tractor/trailer in the early 1980's for the Church of Christ, traveling all over the country picking up donations of food, clothing and medicines, and delivering the supplies to the docks in Baltimore to be shipped to the Poland Churches of Christ during the time of their struggle.
His major enjoyment in later years was having coffee with his many friends and acquaintances at Honey Bees Restaurant. His past time was enjoying western movies, eating out, and taking pride in his yard work.
Calling hours will be held at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman Street, Geneva, OH 44041, Wednesday, June 11, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2003. Elder Jack Webb, a close friend, will officiate.
Joan A. Hardiman
SAYBROOK - Joan A. Hardiman, 64, of Washington Blvd., died on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at her home.
Born on February 6, 1939 in Paducah, KY, she was the daughter of Albert and Sally (Beasley) Hardiman, and was a resident of Jefferson for the past 30 years before moving to Saybrook last August.
She was previously employed as director of the Mary Chatman Community Center in Ashtabula. She commenced her employment at the Mary Chatman Community Center as a volunteer and was instrumental in its growth and evolution. Most recently, she handled payroll and other administrative responsibilities for her brother, Attorney James Hardiman, in his Cleveland Office.
Her loving survivors include he mother, Sally Nelson of Cleveland; three sons, Calvin D. Shaw of Cleveland, Otis W. Conel, III of Saybrook, and Cedric Aaron Conel of Mentor; 12 grandchildren, Pamela, LaLisa, Ayasha K., Calvin D. Jr., Ariel D., Cassandra, Alana, Mychal, Otis IV, Kyle, Jessica L., and Jenna-Marie R.; five great-grandchildren; and six siblings, James L. Hardiman, and Tommy Nelson, both of Cleveland, Judith Robbins of Fayetteville, NC, Willie J. Nelson of Brandywine, MD, and twins, Cheryl Jones of Cleveland, and Daryl Nelson of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert K. Hardiman.
