SCANNED TEXT: Secretary Ruth Canavan Richard Finnegan John Burns Veronica McCarthy Vice-President President Treasurer CLASS HISTORY • September 1933 found the largest Freshman Class ever assembled at St. Mary's, knocking at its august portals. Like unto a ship without a compass, we were completely and wholly ignorant of high school life and thus we were rightfully branded "Freshies." At first we were noted only for our lack of sophistica- tion, but under the guidance of Sister M. David and Sister M. Kathleen, we successfully navigated the intricacies of Freshman life. We found our high school curriculum a decided change from that of grammar school, and it took time to accustom ourselves to the atmosphere of our surroundings. During Holy Week, we attended our first retreat conducted by the Rev. Joseph Hart, C.S.C. of Notre Dame University. So deeply impressed were we that, then and there, we firmly resolved to do our best for God and our school. The thought of June examinations hung over us like a dark cloud. The crisis had come. In the end it would spell either victory or defeat. Fortunately, in our c=ase victory appeared on the horizon, satisfying each one and making a perfect end to a more than perfect high school year. When the following schcol year reopened we were raised into a slightly higher status more dignified, more sophisticated. School life soon settled into its routine. However, the change from freshman to sophomore subjects slackened our pace but only made us more determined to battle with them and conquer 16 |
