SCANNED TEXT: one of us on to still greater endeavor, for the Sodality Spirit has instilled into our minds and hearts a resolve to do and achieve for Mary. With capable, hard working officers at the helm and our most willing friends, the faculty, to chart the course, the good vessel of devotion has made many a successful voyage. Each First Friday witnessed a spiritual assembly in the church. Here the students gave their hearts to our dear Mother in their recitation of her office, receiving in exchange an increase of grace for their souls. The third Friday of the month, activity meetings, emphasizing character building and action, were the rule. A most successful bundle drive at Christmas brought gladness to many an otherwise sad heart. The first annual Sodality Dance and Social proved to be a splendid success. Our schedule was expanded in the adoption of a Mission. Thousands of stamps were collected for the benefit of a lonely outpost of God in the Philippines. The intellectual side of Sodality activities was approached when seven brilliant speakers from Loretto Academy presented a symposium on "Communism." May, Our Lady's own month, the time of special fervor in our devotion to her, again saw devout students hearing Mass and receiving Communion daily in her honor. May Altars attested our sincere love and devotion to Our Heavenly Queen. The sweet strains of "Hail! Virgin, Dearest Marv" filled the air after morning prayers in the home rooms. On the first Sunday of her month, eighty of the Sodalists attended the Ninth Annual Convention of the S. S. C. of Western New York, held at the Elmwood Music Hall, Buffalo, N. Y. The convention afforded an opportunity for the Catholic youth of the diocese to welcome our new bishop, the Right Reverend John Aloysius Duffy, D.D. Again we were inspired to further Mary's cause by the stirring words of Father Francis Le Buffe, and Father Leonard Feeny, S.J. the poet priest. The lovely ceremony of crowning Mary, Queen of May, closed our Sodality activities for the year, a year that has been fruitful in an increase of love for Our Lady. The work of St. Mary's unit of the Sodality has not been in vain, for, awakened to the majesty of Mary Immaculate, we shall strive to keep her ever before us. JUNIOR SODALITY For the first time in the history of St. Mary's High School, a Junior Sodality was organized. What they lacked in age, these young Socialists made up in zeal and devotion to the Blessed Virgin. Although distinct from the Senior Sodality as a unit, the younger Sodalists united with the Senior Sodality in the recital of the office and the work of the Mission Committee. Action was the keynote in the schedule of the Junior Sodality. With an excellent executive committee the members conducted a successful social enlivened by a spirited basketball game. Among the activities were the promotion of a greater love for Mary, the enrolling of Knights and Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament, and the formation of a guard of honor on First Fridays. Business meetings were instructive and enthusiastic and it is safe to assume that upon their entrance into the Senior Sociality, these Junior Sodalists will prove their merit.
