GLEE CLUB ¦ The work of the Glee Club was again a prime factor in the appreciation of things cultural, and together with the zeal and genuine interest of Mr. Henry Zimmer, St. Mary's students gained a zest for fine music. Boasting of a large membership of the better voices of our school, this organization met twice each week for instruction and tutelage. An entirely new program was presented which included such delightful pieces as "Dance a Cachucha" from the "Gondoliers" by Sir Arthur Sullivan, "Carmelina," by David Stevens, and "0 Turn Thee," from Gounod's "Gallia." Classical selections blended with the lighter songs to provide a flow of exceedingly pleasurable musical moments. So anxious were the members of the Glee Club to avail themselves of the excellent training of Mr. Zimmer that they gave of their best. Well trained voices, both altos and sopranos, as well as the essential supporting base strains, sent a flood of harmony heavenward at each rehearsal. During the novenas to the Little Flower, our annual retreats and May Crownings, the members of the Glee Club gave wholeheartedly of their talent to the support of the other voices in the school chorus. Joined to the actual voice culture thus obtained, there was instilled an appreciation for real music which has contributed in a significant way to the happy days of our years at St. Mary's. 46 |
