INTERCLASS BASKETBALL ¦ The annual Interclass Basketball Tournament proved to be a slam-bang affair. Large crowds witnessed each game and the finals were played before a packed house. In the opening set of games the Seniors squeezed out a one-point victory over the Sophomores in overtime . . . the score reading 37-36. In the other game the Juniors downed a hard-fighting Freshman quintet 34-30. The next set saw the Seniors take the luckless Freshmen into camp 24-20, while the Sophomores swamped the Juniors 38-19. The third evening of play resulted in an over-confident Senior team bowing to the Juniors 42-14. Inspired by the Juniors' performance, the Freshmen forced the powerful Sophomore team to the utmost only to finish on the short end of a 31-29 score. In the elimination game the Sophomores defeated the Seniors 31-19 in a hard-fought tussle. The finals saw the Sophomores and Juniors pitted against each other. In a game crammed with thrills and high class basketball, the Sophomores earned a 30-29 victory, capturing the Lloyd Fitzgerald Memorial Cup. This year's Interclass Tourney produced a brand of basketball worthy of varsity games, and coupled with the fine support of the students, was a complete success. 58 |
